Insane is fun to play too. Would we think a villainous teacher? Or maybe a student or even an outsider that's finding a way into the school? Or sending lackeys into the school.

Hey guys, Im about to head out and wont be back till late. You guys can keep discussing if you want. However, when I get back I'll be finalizing the thread. By that I mean decisively picking a setting, house names/mascots/colors, and a plot. For me to be able to do this, Id like to hear your FINAL vote for house names/animals/colors. Furthermore, if you're interested in being a villain PM me a writing sample and from there we can discuss a villain via pm. :)

EDIT: It might also be helpful if you guys give me your final thoughts on character ages (forcing to first year, leaving it open, etc)

I'd simply like to say that hopefully this HP doesn't become the never ending class

In the books and the movies class time is perhaps 10% of the settings in the story but I've noted that many HP rp seem to be almost locked into class time
Who wants to be stuck in the same class for two weeks?
In the books Harry, Ron an Hermione are only seen in class when the course is a focus on their talents or shortcomings; also as comic relief (Wingardium Leviosa, Bang!)
Heck they are shown almost as frequently at the dinning tables as they are in class

As for student foes I am a fan of the Accidental Enemy archetype ( Think Warren Peace in Sky High )

I agree, we usually never rp'd actually being in class because most of the story was happening outside of it. The one time we rp'd class the DM limited the class time and ended class after a certain amount of time.

We decided that the Character you create would be the pleasure slave of a Mountain Troll

JK

From what I've seen it's been about Houses, House Names and Mascots
Magic and whether or not to go completely canon or to allow new spells
Reserving Teacher spots and a few other topics

and a little talk about plots, antagonists, villains.

No actual ideas have been chosen though, not yet anyway.

RIGHT. We need house names, and I think we got the go-ahead for our two houses, Foxglove and Wisteria.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plant_symbolism

Griffyndor House suggestions: Borage, Fennel, Elderflower, Gladiolus, Oak.

Slytherin House suggestions: Begonia, Witch-hazel, Camellia, Cypress, Laurel. (Fungus or Wormwood, whilst having meanings that aren't tied with the house, are also options.

Foxglove...I think the multi-tailed fox is a given, now. So running with the theme of mythical creatures,

Wisteria (Hufflepuff): something hardworking and patient. Perhaps a winged horse, or a hippogriff, as they seem to be methods of transport and the horses actually pull carriages?

Griffyndor house: a phoenix seems like the best idea so far, but there's also a dragon that would work.

Slytherin house: An augery could work (their song was rumoured to predict death), or a Thestral.

If you could pick the best names for each house and the best mascots, we should be able to decide, but if you really despise all of them then feel free to make up your own.

Magnolia could also work for Slytherin, it means 'Nobility'

Hey guys, this is what I have thus far:

  • Setting- Salem, Mass.

  • Griffindor- Gladium- Pheonix (Fire Pheasant)- Bright Red/White
Hufflepuff- Wisteria- Pegasus (Winged horse)- Light Brown/Black
Ravenclaw- Foxglove- Kitsune (Multi-tailed Fox)- Purple/Silver
Slytherin- Viserious- Kraken (Giant Squid)- Dark blue/Light Grey

  • Villain/Plot has been settled via PM.

  • Players will be able to choose any-year students as well as professors. I encourage multiple characters.

I will make an OoC tomorrow morning. If you have any last complaints, now's your chance to voice em.

I think it all sounds pretty good, I can still grab that link for the list of spells real fast:

http://harrypotterfanon.wikia.com/wiki/The_Complete_Encyclopedia_of_Wizarding_Charms,_Hexes,_Jinxes,_and_Spells_BY:_ME

This is the list with the most amount of spells I can find... Although I'm not too sure about some of them. I much prefer:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_spells_in_Harry_Potter#W

Its easier and each of those spells has either been mentioned, or used in the HP books/movies. The first one works well if you want to venture off of the more popular spells.

This is sounding more awesome as it goes on! Can I just check if there's going to be much people actually making a first year student? If not, then I'll make more older characters.

Tbh, I think we should kee it to a higher year, like fifth years, and add on OWL stress accompanying the plot. But a scattering of different years and houses will separate the RP too much.

I agree about keeping it one year and fifth year would provide the characters with enoigh experience with magic to be more interesting. It would make it way easier for characters of different houses hang out in clubs and study groups.

And, of course, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is set on the 5th year and has a lot more...schoolwork in it than the other books. Shame about Umbridge, but you see quidditch, clubs, hogsmeade, exam classes, detention and even exams themselves.

Edit: if possible, can the OOC post contain:
A timetable (for the sake of simplicity, maybe all houses attend the same lessons* but are separated into house groups?)

A layout of the school

A weather forecast (changed for each new day)

*I also think that each lesson/part of a normal school day should be summarised into one post,** to avoid the whole "stuck on first lesson" RPs that you tend to see. If people want to, I dunno, knock over someone else's cauldron then perhaps they can sort it out OOCly prior to posting?

**Teachers should be able to set the task for their lessons~
