Autumn Class Cruisers were designed and constructed before human capital class energy shielding was discovered sadly : (. The earliest known human vessel with energy shields were the UNSC Infinity-class warships and Strident-class heavy frigates. It would be possible that Autumns could lose some of there cargo space to be retrofitted with the technology but unlikely (Can confirm, Icarus does not have shields at this time). All tho I am debating how effective 3 meters of Titanium-A battle plate would be against Turbo lasers, Ion cannons, and other Ship-to-Ship weapons. Thoughts?

Lucky, I've done a lot of work on the effectiveness on weapons for the old RP and for this one. When it comes to the kinda tech you have and Star Wars I am really good at the comparisons. Ions will cause problems for you, the fact that you do not have shields to absorb the blow when they fire Ions you can expect to lose power in sections of the ship. More so than a Star Wars ship would using small ions, a full sized ion cannon knocks you out no matter the size.

Turbolasers won't go straight through your armour plating. They really act on the principle of delivering a high payload of heat to a small area. Your plates are designed to absorb energy when it is hit. While this does mean you can take a couple of hits on one spot under constant fire eventually they will buckle and become deformed allowing shots to get through your armour, unless you keep the fire from piercing the same part of the ship over and over (Which is pretty hard really). While your ship doesn't have shields it is designed around that fact, unlike some franchises where due to the shielding their hull is extremely weak (Stargate, Star Trek(?) and Star Wars).

What you do have to your advantage is kinetic weaponry. Star Wars Shields are really the opposite of OldTrek shields (From what I've read and been told). Star War shields are designed around energy based weaponry, and as such you shoot a turbolaser it will absorb the blow. Whereas they are not designed for missile warfare, very few large spacefaring vessels utilize missiles/torpedoes and depend on their fighter screen to block them from bombers. Your ship relies on Kinetic Weaponry so you bypass their shields entirely and their hull isn't designed to take hits the way yours is.

See, Balance :) Actually you being away kinda makes things easier for you as well, you can post all the way up to you preparing to leave. Just remember and read other peoples posts to catch up on who spoke to you and who said what.

Well in star wars there are Particle shields and ray shields. Apparently capital class particle shields are meant to stop micro meteors, asteroids, and other low-energy kinetic objects from harming the ship but do JA against really high energy kinetic projectiles such as proton torpedoes and fighters.

So yes, a 600 ton projectile moving at 30,000 meters per second would...do some damage. lol.

Back reading to where I left off right now.

Actually your missiles would do just as much damage. Ray shields stop everything but cost a lot of power, it is why they are used as a security measure INSIDE the ship so they are only turned on when required. Particle shields which shield the entire ship while blocking out micro-asteroids and micro-meteors do jack shit against regular missiles as well, as they put out more energy per the area they hit than a micrometeor would in relation.

My main challenge in writing the next few posts is deciding whether or not the Osprey is going to die. Either way, I'm planning to have the much more capable Jotunheim replace it (perhaps in the place everyone ends up jumping to), so it would just mean the difference between destruction by the Empire or destruction by the Rebellion. lol

So, what you YOU guys think?

Depends, Empire would make you good martyrs. Jotunheim should appear where we all chill at afterwards. Will make things easier for you.

Also, SUICIDE RUN!? It is what all dying ship commanders must do :P

Well, what else can you do when being hopelessly outgunned and unable to be given proper time to escape? Hopefully for them it won't end with just one Star Destroyer down, but hey, you're the Game Master here.

And to make it even more epic, and the stakes higher have some reinforcements arrive and just as they do so his ship skims one, which then impacts another Venator, while his ship impacts near the middle and they all explode gloriously. Yeah, it is a bit billiards-like, but it would be a good end. Thoughts?

Me and Pi should probably collab his final scene. He can do the sad captain ending looking out as they go to crash while I decide what damage he causes...

know that the more you destroy now the quicker Ori-Tech is likely to be implemented to counter it :P

Just throw me another PM thread and we can do it there. There's also the whole deal with Michiel in the Icarus, but hopefully that all gets sorted out in a different way.

For my second ship I am having difficulty deciding which ship I want.

Shields, FTL. Not so good weapons.

A pretty cool epic laser, probably as powerful as Nobles Mac Cannon, no FTL, no shields and no real weapons other than the cannon and some basic missiles.

Any ideas/Suggestions?

Providence? Really? I assume that they'll be under Black Knights control, so that they have all of those EVO's under their control... I am actually REALLY curious to see that. Go Providence.

Thats a vote for Providence. Also I always preferred White personally (Cause J.K. Simmons), and he gets the Laser Weapon at the end.

Though if I had White in charge of the Keep again I would have to decide if I wanted to bring Rex in or not. A char like Rex I could play most definitely but would we really want him here? That is the greater concern.

Dude, my main guy can look at a 20 foot tall armour plated killing machine and turn it inside out with a thought. Rex isn't OP.

You can turn him inside out but can you talk to machines. He could go into a Star Destroyer and shut it down by touching it.

@ Sep: Okay, I'll say go with the second option, as you already have one SG polity. I personally would not want to run the SG teams, Wraith and Imperials, it'd be total carnage. The amount of antagonism would be tremendous, the counterpoint though is that they are aware of the Ori and could help make anti-Prior weapons.

@ Matt: Did you still want to take Babylon 5 Excalibur type class?

For my second I am deciding whether to take Transhuman Space (I need to re-read the RPG again), Mindjammer 2nd Edition (again only skip read but looks cool) or possibly a Phase World ship (Palladium RPG). But I may veto them myself as being a little bit overpowered (they're 40K-esque, but they have magic, psychic powers, huge robots (oh my!) and other shenanigans.

No I was going to go Early Prometheus so no knowledge of the Ori also I haven't publicly mentioned it however the Wraith are basically my way of messing with you all in the forming of the fleet. Trying to force you together more by the antagonist in the group. They won't survive the first fight with the Ori beam weapons. That much I have planned, as they're not the most useful of ships with their inability to upgrade with this new tech.

Also you do not need to take a second Polity RogerD. It isn't compulsory. So far only myself and Pi have mentioned it and in both cases it is as a replacement when our current dies.

I had no idea you had planned ahead that the Wraith would die, darn shame. lol
I'm not sure any of us will survive Ori beam weapons currently.

I know it isn't, but trying to find one that may be really helpful. Now Transhuman stuff is good as an Ori could waste my mind, I back up and then fax my ID to the ship which could then re-sleeve the ego into a new morph. Thus we get semi-disposable troops, or remote controlled bodies that we can send to their doom without any inherent losses.

I know a couple of you will. Star Trek for one will be able to withstand at least one hit, with increased power systems even more so. I believe the Icarus could withstand a hit though she wouldn't like it. Same with the Andromeda and the Prospero. I know Echoes little ship can strangely.

Two Star Trek ships with their ability for Research should be enough. I might even remove the second Polity thing as... I don't think most players could handle it. not that I think you couldn't.

As my lovely Co-Gm dear RogerD can I ask you to throw up an IntChk somewhere? See if we can gather some new newbies. Also yeah Trek is more useful as Ori will start using their ubershields and Trekkies will be the only ones able to reverse engineer that Tech.
