Exile: A Sci-Fi RP On an Untamed World

We looked to the stars and wondered if our conquest could reach so high. Their shimmer was a heavenly taunt; the last frontier for us to conquer. We leapt forth into the unknown and met them in triumph. We brought with us a spark to light the flames of civilization across dead worlds; setting alight the fires of our new golden age. The barren landscapes of new planets turned green when our boots touched the soil and we thought ourselves givers of life. We settled every world our boots could touch and our flags flew proud. We raised cities and the impervious domes under which they blossomed. And soon the splendor of our great civilization shone brighter than the stars that had lured us to conquer our celestial neighbors.

But look at us now....

Backstory

The year is 2321 and, for decades now, the remnants of humanity have squandered in hiding, afraid. But it wasn't always so. It was only fifty years ago that mankind lived in a golden age marked by discovery and the establishment of vast colonies on the surface of dozens of planets. We settled every world we set foot on and our numbers grew. Our unquenchable thirst for conquest drove us ever-forth and our brave species spread throughout the cosmos, raising new civilizations from previously dead worlds. Our ingenuity and determination saw earthly plants sprout out from alien soil, breathing life to once barren planets for us to settle. We triumphed over challenges previously believed insurmountable, and we had, at last, conquered the final frontier. We were spread so far we thought ourselves immortal.

How wrong the The Listeners proved us.

Their advance was irrepressible. Inescapable. Where their ships went, life ceased to be. We were helpless to stop it. Our homeworld, Earth, fell first. Our stronghold among the stars.. our cradle. Billions of lives turned to ash, ancient cities turned to dust. We fought them hard, but we could not stop the inevitable. Our closest colonies fell next. One after the other, planet after planet. Loss after loss.

The extinction of the human race was happening before our very eyes. And we didn't even know who our eradicators were -- or what they were. All we knew was that they wouldn't stop until all of humanity had ceased to be. So we ran.

An order for full retreat was issued and what worlds we still held were abandoned. Left to die. Those who could reach the evacuation points watched as billions more perished while their ships set course for the darkest, most distant corners of human space. To safety.

After a dozen worlds were destroyed by The Listeners, it had become apparent that it was humanity's telecommunication signals that had led their otherworldly ships to Earth. By following the human race's bread crumb of radio signals sent echoing carelessly across the sky, their ships had found Earth first and every colony world thereafter in order of its establishment.

The remnants of humanity set course for the Epsilon Indi System on the outskirts of known space, where a hastily-prepared but promising plan to save what remained of mankind was to be executed.

The newly established colony of Nai Kolkata in the Epsilon Indi System, recognizing the peril while time remained to act, enacted a novel yet relatively simple plan to conceal themselves. In the farthest orbit of their parent star - well beyond the system's planets, they deployed a ring of autonomous stations whose purpose was to emit randomized radio waves in all directions of space. Out at the heliosheath of the system, these stations mimicked the background radio static of the universe itself - effectively cloaking the radio and telecommunications broadcasts of Brahma - the lush moon on which the colony was founded - and its neighboring worlds.

It was there that humanity hid.

One after another, interstellar transports filled with refugees poured into the small colony at Nai Kolkata. Overnight the quiet backwater sanctuary became a melting pot for the scared, lost, and broken remnants of a humanity that had only years before ruled the stars.

With them came the battered remains of the human military; a small fleet of survivors bearing the scars of their fight against the onslaught of The Listeners. More ships arrived in the following months, telling stories of worlds turned to ash, but their numbers remained low. It had become apparent that most of the human military had been destroyed or lost in the chaos.

An emergency military government was proposed and briefly enforced before their attempts to control a frightened population proved ineffective. They were too few to effectively govern and protect an entire system at once. Deciding it was more important to protect the colonists from those who had destroyed their home, the Guardian Fleet, as they became known, took on the task of patrolling the outskirts of the system, keeping a watchful eye for any sign of The Listeners' return. The Guardian Fleet enacted a series of strict laws prohibiting radio communications using electromagnetic frequencies above 30GHz while in space, and prohibited any ships from leaving the system in order to prevent detection by The Listeners. Those who attempted to escape faced deadly force.

On the surface of Brahma, colonists of Nai Kolkata opened their homes to the dispossessed. When there was no more room, streets filled with makeshift shelters as refugee ships continued to arrive. Fear and poverty turned to idleness and anger. Violence and crime became a problem in a colony that had once been peaceful. As years went by and the threat of an impending reemergence by The Listeners lessened, the original colonists pleaded for their old lives back, and the refugees resented them. Protests and riots grew rampant. Desperate, the colonists began to fund stock-companies with aims on colonizing other parts of the wild moon.

Mining ventures, plantations growing food from both the old world and this new one, and industrial enclaves were just a few of these early ventures. They pushed boundaries, creating an infrastructure while discovering ways to push back the wilderness. Successful colonists made their own fortunes, and with it they began to organize even more refugees. Some planned governments that would be havens for their ideologies and beliefs. Others wished to live amongst their own kind in a culture they were familiar with.

As humans began to cut their way into the jungles, encounters with the native bat-like peoples, the Tkrai, became more common. At first, the aliens were a fascinating subject for the colonists. Intelligent beings lived among them - the fact was amazing to most. But as time passed, the encounters became violent. Humans were, after all, destroying their home. Resentment and fear grew from this, but the two species would eventually coexist in the nations that came to be formed. But their coexistence isn't one without problems.

Fifty-one years have passed since the first refugees arrived. Since then, many nations have risen; all of them vying to form great civilizations like the ones of old. We stand at the beginning of a new age for human advancement. A world untamed and mysterious. A new beginning for mankind -- another frontier to conquer.

What The RP Is About

The golden age of humanity has reached an abrupt end, and our species has been forced into hiding by The Listeners. Humans now live on Brahma, a lush moon of the gas giant Brahmapura. Independent nations have been established on the surface of Brahma. Some are clustered inside the 'safe-zone', a region where humans are relatively safe from the moon's many dangers. Others have established their nations and city-states beyond the safe-zone's boundaries, where they are plagued by the constant threat of wildlife attacks and rebels. There, the many nations compete for dominance as they did hundreds of years ago on Earth.

Brahma's native bat-like people, the Tkrai, live alongside humans where they are allowed to. But not all of them are happy to be subservient to mankind -- some have taken up arms in rebellion against their new overlords. Others live lives as they did before the humans came; as primitive clans living deep in the jungles, or below the surface in vast cave systems created by sinkholes. But the Tkrai aren't the only ones with a score to settle. If the moon's gigantic predators weren't enough of a problem, human insurrectionists are a constant threat to the stability of Brahma's nations.

You can lead a nation or frontier settlement and compete against others. Play as an organization trying to reach untapped reserves of vital natural resources deep in the jungle. Perhaps you're one of the rebels fighting to topple an oppressive government. Or maybe you're an explorer with a humorous alien sidekick, braving the wilds to find hidden treasures. It's up to you.

This RP will include....

-1: A lush moon teeming with life, and an entire system to explore. Humanity's new home, Brahma, is a moon of the gas giant Brahmapura in the Epsilon Indi system. This is a wild moon with no shortage of dangers. Humans are not at the top of the food chain here; the moon is home to giant, monstrous predators once unimaginable to our human minds, but whom are now a constant threat to anyone brave enough to wander beyond the 'safe-zone'. With most of the moon uninhabited by humans, players have literally an entire world untouched and untamed for them to explore and fight over. No one knows what lies deep in the jungles - be the first to find out. But beware of the moon's many natural hazards. Thick jungles, unpredictable sinkholes, and strange alien natural phenomenons are but a few of the dangers you'll face out in the wild. Ah -- and steer clear of the moon's unwelcoming and uncivilized natives. They'll cut ye.

You're not just limited to exploring Brahma, though. Brahma is but one of many possible moons orbiting the gas giant Brahmapura. In addition to other moons, players can visit neighboring worlds. Perhaps you're a mining company looking to set up shop on a barren planet. Or maybe you just want to explore other worlds. You can do it, and maybe you'll uncover something in the dark corners of these mysterious worlds. But don't try to escape the system; the Guardian Fleet is ever-vigilant. When they catch you - and catch you they will - they'll shoot first and never ask questions.

-2: Character-centric, third-person roleplaying. We aren't looking for chessboard roleplaying where you simply say where things are and what they are doing (IE: "The Broian Army is moving south with five hundred spears and six hundred cat-tossers. The city is producing lots of copper wiring due to an industrial level of homeless crackheads living in the area"). We also don't want to see first-person, as first-person tends to get confusing in an RP setting like this. When roleplaying as a nation or organization, play out their actions through the eyes of characters affiliated to them.

-3: Many roleplaying options. You can play as a nation, an organization, or a single character. Players who choose to play as nations take control of small nations or city-states on Brahma. Those who want to play as an organization can take control of almost any kind of organization they want. PMC companies, humanitarian organizations, manufacturers, rebels, ect. If nations and organizations aren't your thing, you can always play as a single character. A simple colonist, a soldier, an explorer, ect.

-4: A sci-fi world with cool advanced technology. Robots, spaceships, all that. Almost everything you can expect from a futuristic space RP.

Map

The red border is the 'safe-zone' where the safer, more prosperous nations are in. The blue circle inside is Nai Kolkata. This area may seem small, but keep in mind that Brahma is a little bigger than Earth. So the safe-zone may look small, but it's probably about the size of Europe.

The rest of the colors are:

Rules and Guidelines

- This is not a strategy RP. If you play as a nation, you will not be playing it through updates listing your progress (ie: wooden hut 80% done). Instead, you will be playing out the actions of your nation through the eyes of characters affiliated with it. If you are familiar with the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' book series, that's basically how you are expected to play your nation. You have dozens of characters with their own personalities and histories, and it is through them that you play out the actions of your nation. If you want to play out a war, you do so through the eyes of soldiers and commanders. If you want to explore your nation's culture, you may take control of one of your civilians to do so. If you still have doubts on how this will work, ask in OOC.

- This is not an advanced-only RP. This is not to say people capable of writing lengthy posts will be asked to tone it down a bit. No, we encourage lengthy, detailed posts. However, we will not require it. Intermediate-level writers are welcomed, as is anyone below that skill-level willing to push themselves in order to keep up and learn from more experienced writers. Two-paragraph minimum, but I encourage more.

- Do not play to win. It's not about who has the biggest army, or who is more badass. It's about telling a good story. Don't be afraid to lose a battle, or put yourself in a bad position. It's situations like those that good stories are made from. Nobody is going to care or like your nation/organization/individual if everything always goes their way and they're constantly swinging their dick around in triumph.

- If you choose to play as a city-state or nation beyond the 'safe-zone', be reasonable. Being outside of the 'safe-zone' means your city-state or nation is right in the middle of a lot of dangerous wilderness. Chances are they're not super prosperous. They might be doing well, but the farther they are from the safe-zone, the smaller the chances that they are a superpower of some kind. A good guideline to go by would be this: The nations inside the safe-zone are the safest and most prosperous, but being clustered inside the safe-zone, they have little room for expansion. The nations outside the safe-zone have plenty of room to expand, but they are plagued by problems, from wildlife to rebels, so they are probably not the wealthiest or most prosperous of nations.

- No nukes, among other similar things. It comes down to being reasonable, really. If you think what you're doing, or thinking of doing, is overpowered or unrealistic, don't do it. Or at least ask before you do it. See if other people agree with it.

- When in doubt, ask in the OOC.

You are allowed to play as a nation on Brahma, an organization (be it rebels, mercenaries, or a corporation) based there, or as an individual.

There is a 'safe-zone' marked on the map. Nations inside of that safe-zone are safer and more prosperous, but have little room for expansion. Nations and city-states outside of the safe-zone have plenty of room for expansion, but are more susceptible to attacks by Brahma's crazy wildlife and human-hating natives, and probably aren't as wealthy and prosperous as those inside the safe-zone. You may put your nation where you please.

As a quick note to those who read the Interest Check: You are no longer limited to playing nations strictly within the safe-zone. Vilage made a good point and I decided to open up the entire map. You can now put your nation wherever you want, so long as you keep in mind that, the further you are from the safe-zone, the worse off your nation will probably be. Same with city-states.

The pros and cons are this: Nations inside the safe-zone are relatively safe (not guaranteed safe though, especially those bordering the outskirts) and prosperous, but have little room to expand. Nations outside the safe-zone have plenty of room, and probably have more freedom from international laws, but are in more danger of wildlife and rebels and whatnot.

Name - Whoaeclite or the Holy Monarchy of Whoaeclite (HMW)

Modern History: Whoaectlite is a decent sized country. Not the largest but not the smallest. Even though it has a decent size it does not have a decent military. They only have miner robots to guard the cities. But that leads me to my next point, they are a mining empire. With colonies on 3 moons they have lots of minerals. From coal to diamonds they have it. They have a large amount of allies and no enemies at the moment.

Sadly that does not make them perfect. They have rebels in the cities. People accuse Yamashita that is is the devil. The last king was murdered by an evil rebel. One of the kings sons is the leader of the rebels and he plans on killing Yamashita. If this happen the son will take control of the country as he is the heir and make it a dictatorship

Capital: New Tokyo. New Tokyo is the largest city on the moon. With a population of 16 million. Also known as the City of Dreams Tokyo is a great place to get a job.

Location - A small part of the eastern safe zone

King - Yamashita Masahiro took the title of kick when he was 10. He got to make decisions when he was 15. Now he is 40 and is regarded as the greatest ruler in the empires history. He is a great diplomat and peace maker.

History - This empire ancestors are the Japanese. Founded 45 years by Obito Masahiro this empire is a monarchy. Yamashita is the grandson of Obito. Yamashita father's name was Sombay. Around 20 years ago this empire became an economic powerhouse. They created things that where forgotten over time. They focus on luxury resources so they don't have the most guns. They do however have a large amount of Dye, cotton, and gold. They have colonies on a mining moon near Brahma named Epcare. They have a city named Hirosaki. The Capital is New Tokyo. They have always been a peaceful empire and have never gone to war but they do have unique weapons and troops. If they do get in a war they will use robots, those are what they have the most of. New Tokyo is the largest city on Brahma at the moment.

Unique Weapons:
Ojg: A giant rideable robot. It can go in zero g's and it can go through space. It is mostly a mining robot but it can attack people.

Eyu: They A class mining robot. It has arms with pickaxe hands. It can mine faster then the Ojg and it can fly through space faster then the Ojg.

Flag: Flag of the Country

Export: Giant Robots

Import: Pets

Religion 75% Christian, 10% Athiest, 10% Islam, 5% Buddhist

The Declaration of Obito:
All humans who enter this empire have certain rights. They have freedom of religion, They have freedom of speech, They have freedom to live freely, They have the freedom to not join the military, They have the freedom to make as many children they want.

The Main Laws:
You shall not Steal
You shall not Cheat
You shall go to school
You shall not murder

Name
Brazuela.

Location
Brazuela is located within the safe zone and near the the lake (the Green).

Leader
President Ronaldo Madray, the thirteenth president.

History
Brazuela was a small district of Nai Kolkata, that was used by the loose confederacy within South America and controlled by the Untied Nations. It was used as a test zone, where the people within the colony were test out the plants and animals of Brahma. Most of the population in the colony was scientists, but some were builders or just regular citizens. The reasons of the tests were to see if the plants or animals have anything useful in them and then if they found something that was useful, they being it back to Earth, where it’s tested there. When The Listeners attacked and destroyed Earth, Brazuela welcomed the immigrants and made room for them. Of course, they still kept the tests going, but they got worst, as they weren’t being watched by the confederacy and the United Nations. As they have began testing on humans, so they could see the effects of the body, living in Brahma. The head scientist, Generosb Palos, pushed for the tests on humans to happen sooner. He came up with a name and called his ‘company’, The Brahma Research Company.

While the scientists were at their labs, the people already had built their homes near the lake. Since the lake was useless (due to Brahma’s gas planet), it provided nothing, but it symbolized the lakes at Earth. The lake calmed the riots and protests down, but there were still some around; yet, the scientists knew that they couldn’t get into the labs. So in order to stable the people of Brazuela, they built the capital near the lake. And then they set up a republic government and voted for their first president, Tierra Samora. She was a scientist that knew about the function of the republic government, due to her studies of law and government. Samora set up the basic needs of the new capital and towns within Brazuela and it calmed the people down once more. She was in office for eight years and due to the terms that limited a person’s years in the office. She was replaced by another president and it went on for fifty-one years, and there were thirteen presidents. Each one improved Brazuela for the better and they got their funds by Palos.

Since, Generosb retired as the head scientist, his son, Victoro, replaced his father’s role. At the age of twenty-two, he is willing to expand the BRC out of the safe zone. While, the thirteenth president’s election is coming within a year, Salvador De Anda, a rich wealthy man is willing to do anything to stay another four years in office.

I forgot to mention it in the title (and have instead placed it at the top of the OP), but this is a High Casual - Advanced RP. I don't mind people below those skill-levels joining, but I'm going to have to see some real effort to prove to me that you can keep up and are willing to push yourself to meet the standards, or at least try.

Your application is going to have to show me you can do what is expected of a High Casual RP. Give me a longer History with more detail. Something that really helps us understand your nation/group/individual, from founding/birth to present. I'm not asking for a giant wall of text, but definitely more than what you've given us.

The whole thing about "bringing anime back" also puts me off a bit. That shouldn't even be a nation-defining statement. It just really doesn't even fit with the setting.

I will likely put a player-cap once we have a lot of players (so as to not fill up what is supposed to be a mostly-uninhabited world), so while I'm willing to give people a chance, I need to be very careful with who I accept.

THE COALITION

The Coalition is what happens when a military force attempts to reinstate political systems into a shattered populace. With many of the founding fathers being surviving soldiers from the war with the Listeners, it echoes even to this day how they are prepared for such a war to return. Every city in the Coalition’s homeland is dotted with bunkers, depots and defended by countless gun batteries. Many of which were originally taken from ships no longer able to serve in their space fairing capacities. The very first bunker still used today is a destroyer that was buried over many months until it was completely submerged beneath the surface of the planet. It still functions as the auxiliary C.I.C for military actions across the state of the Coalition and is classed as the first step in “rebuilding the iron fist of the Terran people”.

The Coalition is not without its flaws, though many fervent patriots would say otherwise. Immigrants are not deemed members of the Coalition until they have proven themselves worthy. This has led to severe segregation in the work pace, lesser pay and less than appealing accommodations. Though the Coalition does its best in many ways to prevent this, immigrants to the Coalition are simply not seen as a vital component to the strength of the sovereignty.

CITIES OF IMPORT
Capital: Ephyra
Ephyra is a small but rapidly growing city on the very northern fringe of the safe zone. Under the industrial and military eyes of the state it has grown into a prosperous nation centre, a hub for both traders and civilians to call home. Much of the cities industrial complex has been formed by salvaged star ships, but in sacrificing these ships they have been able to build a firm base for industry and power plants.
In total, Ephyra currently populates around 800 kilometres, including farmland and outsourced mining and quarry operations. Though the mines are situated around the city inner and outer sections, the farms are dotted around the perimeter along with the new military camps.

Situated just south of the capital at about a 5 hour drive, Ilima is becoming the second city of the Coalition as time goes on. With a major focus on living space and farming much of the nation’s produce eventually ends up here. Approximately 27% of the populace reside here, many farmers and accountants, shifting economic focus from Ephyra to Ilima.

Located to the west of the capital, a good 8 hour drive on the new motorways that are being finished, Halvo is only a small town in comparison to the other colony sites, but she has become the jewel in the Coalitions rather ornate looking crown. Many officials and doctors now call this eutopia regian home, with manners and estates popping up and becoming a propaganda site for the invitation of new members. The Chairman has an estate here, with fountain and pond. In the words of the New Terra Magazine it is “the perfect home”.

Residing on the border East of Ephyra, around 12 hours’ drive from the capital, Jacinto has not grown nearly as well as the other cities due to the poor mineral wealth she was built upon, but it still has a decent 16% of the population living there. Naval operations can be found working from this city, with the majority of the military dry docks situated on its north-easterly borders. The irony was how Jacinto was actually founded before Ephyra, but due to political changes from the rise of the Coalition, she was made little more than a bastion for the armed forces to operate from. Although she is little more than a footnote, her historical value has not been forgotten. A museum of Military Glory can be found near the city centre, with a vast crypt for the many hundreds who died in the early colonisation efforts on to the north west, commemorating those brave soldiers who gave their lives so that humanity would live.

Situated north of Ephyra, about 3 hours out by car, New Phoenix is not so much a city but a mining HQ for industrial big shots who want to put a good face on for the civilians. Organizations that are not able to station themselves within the capital usually end up in New Phoenix, working hard to expand on the potential mineral deposits only a few miles out of the safe zone.
Preliminary results prove fruitful that an oil well may be dug along with a coal deposit. However, the Coalition are wary of false hopes, and will not act without further study. Even if fuel is becoming more scarce.

Much of the Armed forces still operate in the dry docks for their remaining vessels, but a staggering 49% are now permanently grounded to in atmosphere combat.

Current Chairman of State: Chairman Robert (JR.) Francis Oakland
Born just 7 years after the beginning establishment of the Coalition by his father, Robert Oakland has seen the city he now oversees rise from the squalor of the planet’s jungle origins into the concrete metropolis which is still growing to this day. He is a pragmatic man, with a firm belief that the Coalition is the true power of humanity and will lead them to the future. His greatest wish is to see all that his father worked for become a reality. To this end he has enforced much of the state’s resources into rebuilding the military power humanity once had. It is still but a shadow of its original self, but it is growing stronger as more refugees still relocate to the Coalition from other, small settlements.

Declarations of the Coalition
1. All citizens of the Coalition are bound by oath to protect the state from any threats.
2. All citizens of the Coalition are honour bound to serve a minimal of 3 years within the respected military academies of their choice.
3. In a state of emergency, all citizens will serve in the capacity the state requires of them. The survival of the state is the survival of the people.
4. In times of strife, no citizen shall place themselves above their fellow brothers and sisters. Only when we stand as one shall we be immovable.
5. Any accusation of treason to the state shall be handled by the Supreme Court before a verdict is made. If no court session can be made, a military General is authorized to make the verdict. His actions will then be reviewed by the court when possible.
6. In a state of war, all members of the Coalition are expected to stand united in an effort to repel all enemy incursions until such time as Victory is secured.
7. In a state of emergency, all political powers are diverted to the Chairman of the Coalition. Once the state of Emergency has ended, the Chairman must resign his commission of office.
8. All citizens of the Coalition are expected to aid in the maintenance of all Coalition property. This may be done in labour and/or taxes.
9. In a state of war, all citizens are to adhere to rationing protocols as advised by the Court of Ergonomics.
10. In a state of emergency, all citizens will adhere to strict curfews enforced by military and citizen police. Any Citizen court breaching curfew is liable for court action to be taken against them, and shall spend a minimal of 24 hours in confinement.

Maybe, yeah. Keep in mind this area isn't as small as it looks (it's about the size of Europe). You could probably cut back on that and still have a decently-sized nation. But I want to reserve any real judgement until after you have finished your application. If your app proves to me you can handle a larger territory, and it justifies a larger area, then I might make an exception.

I suppose really small space stations used strictly for science, transportation or things like that would be fine. But they would probably be heavily monitored by the Guardian Fleet, since they have strict rules for space communications, and since other nations would probably oppose any space stations with guns on them, for obvious reasons.

Maybe a few more details might help me understand what you want. But as I see it now, I'm not sure. We didn't talk about that before making the RP. One thing I wouldn't mind having is a space-station that is used strictly for diplomacy and not owned by anyone. So like.. a neutral ground that everyone could have a sort of embassy on. If an international space station of sorts meets your reasons for wanting your own, then we should probably just go with that. I have concerns about space being riddled with space stations because suddenly everyone wants one.

Also, I want my nation to be based on Brazil and other nations in South America, could I do that.

Sure. Maybe it shouldn't be New Brazil, where everything is Brazilian (since humans from all over the place came to Brahma, not just Brazil), but I wouldn't mind if your nation is loosely Brazilian.

Pepper, broI ask if I can have a small base in the safe zone and a space station? If that's alright with you My nation may make a space city , small for now but if you won't mind at this proposition

I know this is a Sci-Fi NRP and all, but, would it still be hard to build a 'space city'? Since you know, Earth was attacked.

Not entirely like that, Space Stations interconnected with various hubs and living areas, stores , greenhouse farms etc.

Alright Pep, my nation is posted. I will be modifying a little later on perhaps but if you wouldn't mind reading over and pointing any issues out it would be much appreciated.
