FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST: FATE’S GATE

“Humans who would dare to play God must pay a steep price for their arrogance.” -Father

============PREMISE=============

Years have passed since humanity triumphed over the menace known as Father, and stopped his dark plans. Yet, it was only by the power of the State Alchemists that he was destroyed. The Elric Brothers had nothing to do with it. Maybe they never existed in this universe. Maybe they did but simply never put into motion the events that would lead them to save the world. No matter what, this universe is fundamentally different than the one we know and love. Without the Edward ad Alphonse, it was up to a coalition of State Alchemists, led by then Colonel Roy Mustang, to defeat Father and save the world from certain destruction. The battle was won, but not without great cost.

Ten years later, the land of Amestris has seen a great age of peace, the treaty with Ishval holding strong. Xing Alkahestry has been popularized and advanced since its resurgence. Alchemy, having been both the savior of, and near destructor of humanity has left many divided on the art. Some revere the practice to near-religious levels, while others demonize and discriminate against the users. Yet, despite this division, Alchemy became quite commonplace throughout the land. There was such a huge influx of Alchemy users that special task forces were created to police usage of Alchemy, so as to prevent Human Transmutation. Yet, when the world seemed most at peace was when He appeared.

A being that looked different to each person that observed Him. The man known only as Fate. He is the guiding force behind all Alchemy, and came to the realm to declare that humanity had tipped the balance of the universe. Fate proclaimed he had come to “purge the excess” from that scale, and restore balance. To that end, Fate turned Table City, once-proud hub of Amestris into a Philosopher’s Stone, and broke it to pieces. Fate then branded all surviving Alchemists everywhere with a mark on their body. This mark not only shows that the person practices Alchemy, but also acts as a magnet. If too many people with the brand gather in one area, they will be turned into a Philosopher’s Stone and killed.

People wandered for five years, scared and scattered to the winds, only to hear one day that a city in Ishval had been swallowed up into the earth. A city without Alchemy. That is when Fate made his second ultimatum. Humanity had used Alchemy too much, and by law of Equivalent Exchange, their world was now what would be taken away from them, bit by bit. That is, unless the majority of Alchemists are killed, so that "balance is restored." With that, the world changed. The Alchemy Control Task Force now keeps a keen eye on all Alchemists, and takes care to never let too many of them assemble in one place at once. Some even hunt the wandering Alchemists. Now, the people must choose whether to fight each other, or find a way to defy Fate himself.

The rules may be appended at any time to accomodate issues or other needs. I'll put up my own character here as well.

Regarding the point system, do we have to come up with a list of moves in a post (not our CS) that we might use in the Rp, and you just give them a price?

Yeah, you'd make a list of moves for your Specialty and describe each of them, then I'd price em out for you and depending on the prices of each of them you'd put all or some of them on your CS, with their cost in parenthesis.

Awesome! Love that character idea. As for points, well, your character's largely gonna be spitting alcohol based fire. A stream of fire's probably something like 15 points. Fireballs would be like 10. Distant explosions (depending on size) could be anywhere from 5 to 20 points, but yours sounds pretty conditional, so I'd say like 10 for that too.

A stream of fire and fireballs will most likely happen.

The "Spontaneous Combustion" power I mentioned would work by igniting ethanol-based substances, as described here. They wouldn't be explosions since you need gas for explosions, though, I might look into something like that in the future.

I'll take the stream of fire, the fireballs, and the ranged combustion and add them to the sheet sometime tomorrow. That gives me 65 more points to work with, right? Suggestions?

Well, you could have guided fire attacks, like a large snake of fire or something (that'd be like 25 points), You could spit a wall of fire as a defensive thing (20 points) you could have a gigantic fireball attack of some sort (20 points). Any of those sound good? Actually, you know what? Never mind the point system. Seems to be overcomplicating things. Just write up a list of moves and I'll approve or disapprove em. Also I'm renaming "Moves" as "Techniques" because that sounds better.

Excellent character! Those techniques are awesome, but that Railgun move is broken. He shoots something off at Mach 5, capable of destroying an entire building and all that happens to him is like second degree burns and joint pain. There needs to be more negative repurcussions for using that, and I don't believe you should be able to use supersonic speed in an attack from the beginning of the game. Please change that move. All other techniques are approved.

Getting up a CS, the only thing that was stopping me from posting one earlier was the point system.

Ah, good thing I scrapped it then! In hindsight it was over complicating things, honestly.

Name: William Campbell

Age: 25

Height: 5' 8"

Weight: 178 lb

Appearance:

Race: Human

Nationality: Amestris

Personality: William is a very perceptive and focused man. Years ago he had lost his ability to speak, forcing him to sit back and watch things go by throughout his life. Needless to say, he's an excellent listener and is very understanding. William takes an avid interest the art of Alkahestry and has dabbled in the art as well, of course his power and knowledge of Alchemy is much more superior and vast in comparison. William often likes to relax on his spare time; enjoying a nice cigarette or just thinking about things usually puts his anxieties, whatever they may be, at rest.

Background: Ever since William was a boy his interest in Alchemy always lead him into trouble. Practising the art whenever he saw fit, and usually having little to no regard for the consequences. By the age of 14 William thought he knew everything there was to know about alchemy and decided to learn alkahestry, thinking they were along the same lines. He mustered up some money and took a long and unforgettable trip to Xing, where he went to tons of different libraries cross referencing everything he learned. It was to his misfortune when he accidentally stumbled upon a sacred families secret. Descendants of the aforementioned family abducted him off the street a few days later and preformed unauthorized and unprofessional surgery on him. During the abduction they removed his vocal cords, this was a symbolic way of saying don't speak a word of the family's secret. Luckily for William, doctors at the nearest hospital used alkahestry and medical sciences to save his life, and prevent him from bleeding out. The doctors told William that he would probably never speak again. William had to find an alternative way to communicate with people, he started to use a small, clipboard sized chalkboard to write out what he wants to say.

William came back to Amestris a changed man. Gruesome dreams and nightmares came to him when he slept for nearly 9 months. William couldn't take another night of reliving his throat being pulled out in his dreams, so he started researching. Researching anything. He researched anything that fancied him even a little, just to take his mind off things. He came to the conclusion that if he became a state alchemist, the government would hand him assignments that would distract him from his real problems. He studied and practised for years, making sure he couldn't fail the state alchemist exam. Through his tireless efforts and everlasting will he managed to pass the exam and become a full fledged state alchemist.

Profession: State Alchemist.

Art: Alchemy and a little bit of Alkahestry.

Specialty: Liquefaction - William uses alchemy to create quicksand using the ground. William must preform a chain like reaction to create this quicksand. First, he uses his alchemy to deconstruct the earth in a targeted area and destroy it into millions of pieces of sand. William then uses his alchemy to saturate the sand with water obtained by the rock around the sand (Equivalent Exchange). The third step in his form of alchemy is to manipulate the quicksand to do whatever he wants. William was the first person to create and use this type of alchemy. William used this alchemy during the practical part of his state alchemist exam to impress the judges. He preforms his alchemy with a small chalkboard that he carries around, this chalkboard is the same one he uses to communicate with.

Techniques:

Quicksand pit- William puts his chalkboard on the ground with a transmutation circle drawn on it, and starts this technique. He creates a long narrow strip of quicksand leading from the chalkboard to his opponents feet, making them sink down into the sand. The technique has a maximum range of around 10 metres, and is about 1 metre wide.

Quicksand Pillar- After turning his desired area into quicksand, William manipulates the quicksand to jump out at his target. He creates a cylinder of quicksand that rises up from the pit he had created to grab onto his enemy. Once the quicksand has a firm hold on his enemy, it starts to drag him downwards into the pit.. It's only practical use is to take out enemies in the air.

Quicksand net- Very similar to quicksand pillar, but without the intent to kill. William creates a pit a quicksand in which a good portion shoots towards his enemy. Instead on sinking the enemy and suffocating him/her, the quicksand just holds the person in place, avoiding his/her head.

Solidification - This technique is the exact same as making quicksand, only in reverse. William uses the water already infused in the quicksand to compress the sand into a hard solid, almost as strong as the earth in which the quicksand was originally made from.

Question - does Alkahestry's healing count as changing work of Ishvala? Thinking of making an Ishvalan monk, so any form of Amestrian transformation Alchemy is out.

Yes, Ishvalan research is part of what advanced Alkahestry, so you could totally do the monk idea. In fact, it could probably be argued that Xing Alkahestry and Ishval Alkahestry could be two different things at this point in time... Really liking these characters, guys! Von and Curiousity, you guys are approved. Welcome to the game!
