Concept: The Sulky Telekinetic
Role: Hero
Age: 17
Sex and Orientation: Heterosexual Female
Appearance:
Personality: Ah, Jackalyn Walker. As sour as a lemon and as blunt as a teaspoon, this charming bundle of sarcasm and scathing remarks keeps a thick, cold exterior to strangers and friends alike that is about as easy to break into as caked-on grease in a Mcdonald's fryer from the '80s. She doesn't get mad, like big brother Brooksy; hers is a simmering loathing, a coldness and hatred that permeates the air around her like a terrible odour. Intimidating, aloof and (worst of all) quiet, Jackalyn is obsessively protective over her family and almost constantly wary of anyone and everyone ever.
However, once (if) you manage to push and claw your way into the heart of a person who is
very clearly content with what she's got already, and would rather you stuck your face into a blender than become friends with her, you'll find that Jackalyn isn't as bad as she looks. Her family in particular are honoured with the presence of a caring, gentle Jackalyn. Surprisingly, under all of that hatred is a brain; Jackalyn is very intelligent, and likes to teach her younger siblings and older brother about anything and everything that they have to come up against. She's a girl they can turn to for advice, battle-plans or homework help without being shoved away. When it comes to family, Jackalyn's a big softie over them and believes that they're all she ever needs. Aww!
Background:
Jackalyn was the second-born of the Walker family. Envious of her older brother when she was very young, she had to look after the younger ones a fraction more because she was the youngest, and because she was a girl. The sad truth! Brooksy had plenty of time to train his punches and kicks outdoors whilst Jackalyn gained muscle mass with the housework, the cooking and the cleaning as well as the rigorous training exercises that Phareon and Florence shunted upon their spawnlings once they were 'old enough to handle it'.
Jackalyn herself was always very interested in the tomes, the books and the scrolls that her mother brought back from far-off lands, speaking of different languages and cultures that Jackalyn had never seen herself whilst holed up in the remote mountain-side cabin that all of the Walkers lived in. She wasn't graced with a proper education like most other children - none of the Walkers were, due to the isolated position of their inclusive little hovel. She didn't have friends, only siblings. And since siblings usually accept you how you are, they left Jackalyn to it, and she became smarter and taught them in turn.
Her perception on strangers, due to the combined efforts of not meeting very many new people and having two parents who spoke always about nasty villains, became very distorted indeed. She grew up building many barriers against herself and others, preparing herself for the inevitable; it's where she's pushed out such a cold attitude, amplifying what was already there.
Time passed, and the Walker siblings grew older and more self-sufficient in their parent's continued absences. Jackalyn took the lead with her older brother as the protectors of the family - the ones to call on if there was a spider in the bedroom, or if someone was ill, Jackalyn would look after them. she became caring, loving and thoughtful - not to mention that she had a bit of a side-job of working with little Rosie, who struggled all her life as seemingly the only Walker imbued with magical powers of healing. Jackalyn worked long and hard and pored through many books about magic in order to help her, but there's only so much someone can do. She was only lucky that it wasn't harming magic, and as Rosie grew up she learnt more and more about her magic on her own, without Jackalyn's help.
When the Walkers received mention through the form of a letter that not one, but both parents had died holding the line against a horde of enemies, Jackalyn took the blow in the most devastated and most violent manner of them all. For all her life, it was assured that Jackalyn was not magical in the slightest; but when the letter was read out to her, objects in the room started to shudder, shake and fly across the room in unpredictable directions. The grief was so much for Jackalyn, who looked up to both parents dearly, that it unlocked her telekinetic abilities. the Walker siblings were also affected by this new discovery - their eldest sister was now prone to dropping a wardrobe on their head if she got mad. Naturally, Jackalyn immediately offered to break off from the family, go her own way; but that isn't how it works with the Walker family. Stubbornly, Brooksy, Rosie and Derek insisted that Jackalyn remained, and that they'd get through this obstacle together.
Jackalyn was born as the second-oldest, and oldest sister, of Phareon and Florence Walker. Florence was a very short-tempered lady imbued with magical powers of healing and moving things with her mind. She liked to punish her children and this toughened everyone up, especially Jackalyn who had to also do a lot of the housework and the 'training' that their parents set, but do not be fooled - Florence was a very caring and loving mother and wanted her children to be sturdy in later life. Phareon was a strong, powerful warrior who did not punish his children a lot
Jackalyn didn't meet a lot of people so she became wary of strangers, but loving and caring over her siblings, especially Rosie who she helped with her inherited magical gift of healing as much as possible with mom away adventuring. She read a lot of books from her parents, which made Jackalyn pretty intelligent too.
When Jackalyn received word that both her parents were dead, she discovered her inherited telekinetic powers by uncontrollably throwing objects around the room in a fit of grief. With her siblings afraid of her and parents dead, Jackalyn prepared to separate herself from the family and go her own way but Derek, Rosie and Brooksy refused to let her go. They'd deal with her powers as a family, together.
Skills: Physical strength is a talent passed on to each an every Walker, Jackalyn included. She's also very good at the housework, and generally intelligent. She's also a telekinetic, but doesn't know how to control it. Due to her staff-like weapon, she's also pretty agile and fast since she's had to dodge her own blade more often than her enemies'.
Jackalyn was seemingly perfect, so I had to add some weaknesses. She can't take magical hits very well, and despite her intelligence, mind control is also a weakness. Harming her family makes her do stupid things. And it's all fun and games until somebody asks her to swim, then it'll all go downhill from there.
Equipment: Simple leather armour (dark greys, neutral colours) and a curious weapon - a bit like a staff, with a sword blade on one end and a spearhead on the other, made out of an unknown, tough, and lightweight metal. She also carries a kitchen knife on her person, at all times. Always. Usually in the most unpredictable of locations.
Parent:
-Mom: Florence Walker, short tempered and not afraid to give the children a good harsh punishment, however she's not cruel - she's actually loving and caring. (BIG MOMMA FLO)
-Dad: Phareon Walker, (PAPA PHAR) was actually super-strong and an adrenaline junkie. A massive wall of meat, plate and witty one-liners, Phareon looked after his little ones well but didn't step in when Mommy got mad at us.
Inheritance: Books. She got books from both her parents, her physical weapon from her father (a trophy from some far-off land and now extinct tribe of natives) and, most recently, discovered her telekinetic gift from her mommy.
Notes: Jackalyn is called "The Jackal" because she snaps at people who aren't her family, and also because she's a very fast runner.
Jackalyn's hydrophobic, and can't swim.
