It has been three months since the Equalist attack on Republic City and it's subsequent take over by Amon's forces and then their failure after the unmasking of their leader and his lies. The Equalists for all intents and purposes are fractured and or gone vanishing back into everyday life. Avatar Korra is hailed as a hero as is the majority of the Republic City Defense Force and the United Alliance's armies. With Republic City recovering from the destruction and still suffering from crime which has risen since the reinstatement of the police and the riots by still loyal Equalists. However some miles away from Republic City lies the trading route city similar to Republic City but without a reputable water source it heavily depends on it's airfields which allow the airships to bring in supplies by transport. There is a small river running through the city but the water is not sufficient for anyone but fisherman who barely make a meager earnings. This city is named Wu Xing (Earth in more native tongues) is home to not only a metal bender academy but is also a gambling capital and has well known Pro-Bending Tournaments hosted almost all year every month. However with that being said there are four gangs that have been unleashed upon the city making live miserable for the locals and travelers alike though they would protest that they do all that much to harm the city. The first of which being the Red Cat Gators, The Brown Mole Bears, The Blue Flames, and The Lightning Prodigals all of which are sly and very business savvy. However there's been rumors going about lately, unsettling ones at that, that say another gang is forming under the head of a mysterious man.

Alright FAQ Time:
1. Air Bending will be allowed but pro-benders don't have an air slot so that being said air bending will not be allowed with a pro bending background. You must not be very well known. The most likely scenario being that you came from a rather unknown area and are rather new to bending or have kept it rather secret. This is because Tenzin and his crew will take you away for training and then your character can't participate in the roleplay due to the fact he's in the next city over.

Once you start bending in the city you may very well be noticed but the canon cast will be kept out by: "Being busy with Equalists rebels" unless requested to make an appearance in which case they may come in late roleplay to see you.

2. Blood Bending, 'Duel' Bending, Lava Bending, and any advanced form of bending is off the table unless it's Metal Bending/Sand Bending which has become common. You may be able to learn them later. However doing so will cost you the ability to use better earth bending. Also Ice Bending in restricted to The Northern and Southern Water Tribes with some bare basics left to Foggy Swamp Tribe members.

3. I'm aiming for a group that is from their teens to early mid twenties. Adult characters are HEAVILY discouraged due to the nature of the roleplay. However if you must I'll allow an older character.

4. The canon cast will not be involved in this roleplay. The whole purpose of this being semi-canon is to get rid of any questions about the avatar and or who the avatar is at the moment. This also prevents people, including myself, from abusing the avatar's powers in roleplay. Canon cast shall not be allowed at all since they are off doing their own things..

5. This will be a little darker in the sense of a Dark Knight (Batman) sense where there will be violence and possibly death but not on a scale I hope to keep this true to the series and prevent character deaths if possible.

6. Non benders are allowed as long as they're not equalists themselves. They may have been trained by them but no actually involved themselves due to plot reasons. You also may be a chi-blocker or whatever be it and no be at all affiliated with the equalists past or present.

7. Pro benders are not allowed unless they are retired. Unless you or a group of your friends can get together and make a whole team plus a manager with a reputable background of how you're getting funded then I don't have the time to deal with an entire mini-group and their arcs. Please stick to one or two characters. My character will be a pro-bender but I'm use to handling more then five NPC's per roleplay I'm in and can effectively handle it.

8. This takes place four months before Harmonic Convergence AKA Season 2.

===

Rules:
1. GM's control and make this roleplay listen to them or be forced out
2. All standard roleplay rules apply
3. PG-13 Limits apply cursing and the like as well as bloody is allowed but this roleplay is meant to be kept in the spirit of the series.
4. Any important canon characters shall not have additional children unless requested and I MAY consider allowing it. Other Co-GM's if assigned do not have a place to allow canon offspring.
5. You accept the fact that you must inform me or someone of your departure from this roleplay. Doing so without my knowing (leaving the roleplay) will result in a permanent ban from any and all of my roleplays.

Name: Ren Lau
Nicknames: The Striking Elephant Lion
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Appearance:

Bending skills or fighting style: Versatile Intermediate Level Earth Bender
Weapons/Instruments/Armor: Silver Colored Pro Bending Uniform

Personality Calm and collected Ren is never one to scream or shout or rant unless extremely angry, frustrated, or upset and even then it is controlled. He displays a sense of annoyance with many people and is more accepting than friendly with others outside of his core group. He has a strong sense of morality that does not let him cripple or harm people unless he feels they deserve it or in self defense. He is not one to beat around the bush but does try to be kind to others by not spitting his own ideals directly into the face of others. Much to his own admittance he is poor at making new friends but can be casual around almost everyone almost apathetic in nature to the world around him. He likes to describe himself as 'cold as the stone beneath his feet'. However this has not stopped him from being dragged from place to place due to his inability to really care about where he is going as long as there's a destination. He has a fondness for animals despite his more loner type attitude. He prefers to have a plan before going into a situation but is not afraid to go into a fight without one. In combat he is shown a quite calmness that does not betray much of any emotion unless the fight is intense. He is not one to be bother by mental games and it takes someone of profound ability to be able to intimidate him. He is not one to crack jokes and when he does they are normally very generic or 'lame' as Hana has started to call them.

History: Born in the city of Omashu to a merchant mother named Sun Xiang and an Earth Kingdom Soldier named Wan Lau whom was assigned to guard her but impressed her so greatly that the two fell in love and got married. Ren was noted for his calm demeanor even as a child. Unlike most kids, and his own parents who were boisterous in their own right, he grew up with a chilly and down right eerily calm sense of mind. He was never one to throw fits and he disliked being spoiled as he liked to be treated as an equal more than some sort of leech as his grandfather had termed it. While his father guarded the King Of Omashu and his mother worked in the fields and often traveled to nearby settlements young Ren quickly discovered his Earth Bending which was very blunt but eloquent in it's own right. Due to his mother not being around he was often taught and taken care of by his grandfather whom imparted knowledge of his own earth bending skills to the younger lad though his own father disapproved despite his grandfather's insistence. He also learned how to read, write, and do some basic acrobatics and climbing in the summers and winters when his grandfather was around him more. His mother imparted a strong sense of justice towards his grandfather's sense of ruthless judgement and hardness that would make up the core of Ren's style of fighting (more precision and crippling accuracy than flamboyance). His father however taught him that while people should be respected no matter what he agreed with his dad that some people needed to be dealt with turning him more towards his father's side of the family but still retaining his mom's and aunt's sense of morality. Overall Ren grew up as a conflicted young man whom was more calm than not.

As he grew into his teen years he experienced the working world as a market guard keeping rougher customers from getting over zealous and preventing fights from breaking out which he excelled in. His mother and father were having issues at the time so he ended up spending time with his mother's grandfather whom also moved to Omashu where he would show him some hand to hand fighting techniques that made him known as a great warrior back in his day during the war between The Fire Nation and The Earth Kingdom. Improving on his already formidable skills in Earth Bending for a kid his age and his already physically and mentally strong abilities, Ren proved to be a worth successor to both his families by the judgement of his two grandfathers and a decent writer by his living grandmother's admission. One day a fight broke outside the city gate when a group of raiders attempted to attack the market and steal some supplies to sell in the black market where he and a group of benders and guards stopped the fight before it got anywhere. The benders were a group of travelers whom were looking for an Earth Bender. Ren told them that he wasn't interested but later that day the two found their way to his house and introduced themselves. His mom's father impressed on the boy that he should try and help them when he found out that they were the newly formed Pro-Bending team known as The Silver Shark Whales. Much to his annoyance he at that point had chosen to accept it if only to earn some decent money. Thus he met his new friends Hana, a water bender from the Northern Water Tribe, and a strong willed fire bender named Lee whom was their leader. The trio traveled around the world becoming fast friends and buddies, much to Ren's annoyance more than once having to pull either or both of them out of the per verbal hole they've dug themselves into. Ren however grew out of his more cold nature and become much more...ambivalent than he had before becoming accepting of others if only by a small margin. They made a name for themselves as multi-time championship holders and found themselves near Republic City in an attempt to gain the gold once more.

Name: Kanna Nikkou.
Nicknames: (I suck at this, so please do feel free to create any).
Gender: Female.
Age: 22.
Appearance:
Kanna stands at roughly 5.8 feet tall, her skin is painted in the dark colors akin to her water-tribe brethren, however her hair is not the usual dark colored strands. Instead her hair is colored in a stark white color that stands in an incredible contrast to her dark skin. She tends to keep her hair in check by cutting it in a neck short length.
Her body isn’t exactly what you would determine as ‘curvaceous’, instead she is quite the opposite. Instead her body is athletically built, obviously honed through physical training and hardship in order to create a tool made for physical proves. This, however, does not mean that she is muscular: rather her body has been molded to excel at speed, agility, acrobatics, precision and being hidden.

Bending skills or fighting style:
Kanna is a skilled martial artist, to such an extent that she is able to use a variety of different styles which includes the use of various weapons weapons and hand to hand combat - she has even studied the different bending-styles and acrobatic movements in order to further enhance his fighting skills. Furthermore she has gained an extensive knowledge of the human body, focusing on chi-blocking and disarming an opponent’s body through quick precise attacks on their pressure points (she is, among other skills, able to cause pain by hitting different areas of the opponent’s body). Furthermore she uses her physical abilities to outmatch most foes through accurate and fast motions.
Kanna is by no means a genius, she is however a quick thinker and an excellent observer. These skills aids her in combat and she utilizes them to gain an upper hand - even when she hadn’t thought things through beforehand.

Weapons/Instruments/Armor:
Khanna, being born without the ability to bend, has instead focused on martial arts in order to defend herself. Because of this she always carries with her four semi long wakizashi, each about an arms length overall, with no apparent hilt for protection between the blade and the handle. Instead the wooden handle seems to blend seamlessly into the dark blade. Other than these swords, two of which are kept behind her shoulders and the other two at her hip, she has a bunch of knives for various purposes.
For Armour Kanna doesn't really wear any. Instead she relies on her superior agility and speed to avoid hits and utilize the lack of heavy armour to gain further speed and agility. What armour she usually are made from tight black clothing with leather boots and gloves. Over all of this she tends to hide herself with a cloak as well as cover her lover face with a piece of cloth.

Personality:
Kanna Nikkou is an interesting case-study of the idea of ‘personas’. Through her childhood and most of her teenage years she grew up in an environment in where she learned to be calm and respectful, always able to see the world through the many veils that covered it and stay focused on the task at hand.
However as she entered her teenage years her inner adventurer grew as well. It became harder and harder for her to hide the more energetic and carefree side of her, often resulting in her getting into troubles with her superiors.

As such it can seem as if Kanna almost possesses dual personalities. At times she can seem calm and collected - almost to the edge of being cold and uncaring, while at other times she can almost seem like a teenager once more: carefree, energetic and a genuine airhead. However, if you peel away the layers of her different personas you will find a young woman who desperately seeks to prove herself to the world. Having been born without the ability to bend nature at her will she has felt a constant need to show that she isn’t helpless and unneeded because of this ‘handicap’. This is the very root of her different personalities: she has become a master of acting as is needed from her in each situation, whether that means acting carefree to lighten the mood (or trick someone) or stay calm and collected in order to stay alive.

History:
Kanna grew up in the northern water tribe in a family of six: her father, mother, two sisters and a brother. Her parents were an interesting couple: her father was a fire-bender, and a member of the White Lotus, while her mother was a water-bender. They met her father came to the northern water tribe in order to work as a link between the White Lotus and their chief. It wasn’t a fairy-tale love connection, in where they couldn’t live without each other, but rather a slow burning flame. Over the course of many years they slowly grew together and after five years they had their first child: Kanna’s older sister.

Kanna was born only four years later as their third child - and the only non-bender in their family. Her older sister and brother were both born with the natural ability to bend and control water, while her younger sister was a skilled fire-bender from a young age.

What this meant for Kanna was that she was the deviant in her family. While her sisters and brother could connect with her parents and each other through their mutual affinity for the two elements, Kanna could not. Because of this her parents seemed to take more care of her, give her more of their time and keep an eye on her so that she wouldn’t feel left out as a child so easily can.
However Kanna wasn’t completely born without any form of skill. Instead of bending she seemed to have a natural physical energy: she was always running around, climbing and going on adventures around their village - often getting into problems because she got lost or snuck into forbidden areas around the Northern water tribe. Finally, when she had just turned ten her father decided that the Northern water tribe no longer could satisfy Kanna’s hunger for adventure, and as such he decided to take her with him on one of his usual travels as a member of the White Lotus. On this journey Kanna finally got the chance to experience the wider world and its many different cultures - all of which seemed as one big playground to her young eyes. However what really changed her life was when she together with her father attended a ceremony within the Order of the White Lotus. Here she saw the different masters perform their arts through friendly duels - and while the bending was breathtaking, it was the realization that people like her, non-benders, could stand on even ground (and at times even ascent) with benders. It didn’t take her long to beg her father into submission and promise her that he would try to get her the best masters of different martial arts. A little over a year later she started her journey that would ultimately lead her to become a skilled artist in many different martial areas.

Kanna’s past doesn’t end here though; at the age of seventeen she had studied under various skilled masters in many different martial arts, gained a physical and intellectual prowess that made her an exceptionally skilled fighter - and because she studied under the masters of the White Lotus, she also gained quite the skill in Pai Sho) and had become a member of the Order of the White Lotus. The problem was, that while she showed great skill in the martial arts, she did not seem to grasp the importance of the core principles of the order: philosophy, beauty, and truth. She was young and as many youngsters tend to do, she grew tired and annoyed of the boundaries of her current life. This mean that she departed from the Order of the White Lotus, instead wanting to see the world and prove to herself - and her family, that she could take care of herself.

Because of her skills in martial arts it didn’t take her long to get enrolled in the United Forces, that like the Order of the White Lotus embodied the idea of transcending the national borders, and as such felt very comforting for Kanna. It only took her a year to become recognized within the United Forces: her skills meant that she could quite easily handle most missions either by herself, or with little help from other members. She did not, however, show any skill in commanding those around her, and as such she never became more than a normal soldier and spy within the ranks - she carried out many assassination and infiltration missions and was an important asset for the United Forces because she was able to infiltrate the ranks of the Equalists.
This era of Kanna’s life lasted a roughly three years, however after three years she felt tied down once again. Feeling the cravings she knew oh so well for adventurers and traveling she decided to leave the United Forces and the relations she had forged over the period of her enrollment.
Now, once again free from the chains of an organization and nowhere to go, Kanna quickly saw herself transcend deeper and deeper into the darker parts of the world. She became a mercenary, taking on all sorts of odd jobs and because of the discipline she had gotten in her time with the ‘Forces’ she was able to create a distance from herself and her actions, even stealing and killing had become a more natural act of her life.

While this might create an image of Kanna as being a cold blooded criminal, she does still hold up her standards. Her name has garnered her various aliases and a lot of respect for a 22 year old non-bender. This means is that her abilities are quite expensive and as such can decline jobs that seems too extreme for the moral compass she had developed through her time with her family, the Order of the White Lotus and the United Forces.

Other:
Kanna is quite the skilled Pai Sho player and her skills with tea brewing isn’t bad either, however she is extremely bad at cooking.
She is fundamentally quite secretive, preferring to hide away details of herself in order to steal any advantages other people might get from having intel about her.
Because of her background she seems to have a lot of connections to various parts of society.

I hope there aren't too many problematic faults with it...

Name: Hokkan
Nicknames: Swordfish, Lukewarm, Firewater
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Bending skills or fighting style: Upper Intermediate Waterbender
Weapons/Instruments/Armor: Fishing pole & lures, camping pack, and a water jug.

Personality: Thick-skinned and independent by nature, Hokkan exudes a playful demeanor that is both charismatic and charming. He is a fearless extrovert in most social settings, willing to strike up a conversation with random strangers, no matter the situation. Hokkan's laidback and carefree attitude is often mistaken for carelessness, vastly overshadowing his sharpened intellect, which is rarely acknowledged outside of the sport of Pro-bending or Water Rumble Tournaments.

History: Hokkan was groomed to inherit the family business at a young age. As soon as he could walk on his own, the seasoned tribesmen of his family rigorously trained him in the art of a unique waterbending style, one that specifically catered to their roles as fishermen. This technique involved subtle movements to sway and shift waters to redirect fish, followed by abrupt, almost lightning fast reflexes to lure, trap, and snatch them out from the sea and into their boats.

The wild tempest of the southern ocean made for a steep learning curve for this particular kind of style, but young Hokkan was determined to make his tribe proud. When he finally proved his worth, the tribe granted Hokkan a spot on one of their fishing boats, where most of his teenage years were spent sailing the southern hemisphere and beyond.

Hokkan is relatively close-lipped about how he ended up in Wu Xing as a Pro-bender six years ago, seldom acknowledging his past beyond fishing tales of his grandest triumphs over the rarest and biggest oddities of the sea. He spent several years Pro-bending under a relatively unknown team called The Mad Piranhas, winning several interim matches, but never had enough funding to enter the more prestigious Pro-bending tournaments. In an attempt to raise money for his team, Hokkan sought out an underground Waterbending Tournament held across several cavern coves on the western coastline. This combative sport had piqued a new level of interest in Hokkan, to the point where he abandoned all hopes of becoming a Pro-bending champion to pursue more selfish gains of fame and fortune.

Despite his sudden change of heart, Hokkan still frequents the Pro-bending scene, offering his services as a trainer at a local gym.

Due to the fact that I forgot to put in something that was in the interest check the seventh FAQ is this

You must be able to play two other characters plus your current one make an effective back story be it in role play or in history of how you got the funding. My guys will be funded by the family of one of my NPC's close relatives primarily. It is more likely that a bender with your history would be in those one on one wrestling type arenas that toph was a part of unless you have a similar background to mine. I reccomend abandoning the pro bending part and going with what I just mentioned.

And before you say 'your person is a pro-bender- it's because I'm controlling him plus every NPC in that game as usual..,Meaning I'm used to playing more than five NPC's per roleplay.

Hoping this is decent D:

Character Sheet:
Name:
Xia Lian
Nicknames:
Called "The Gentle Explosion" by most of her neighbors.
Gender:
Female
Age:
20
Appearance:

Bending skills or fighting style:
-Untrained Novice (I.E. Doesn't quite have the hang of any style--see History)
Personality:
A very happy, gentle girl who wishes for nothing but to please others. Her cheerfulness seems to know no boundaries, and neither does her enthusiasm. She tends to be demure most of the time, but ends up trying to warm up to people rather quickly. She often finds herself speaking before thinking, the same with most of her actions, though she does mean well. She has an overabundance of patience, though if the wrong buttons are pushed, her temper seems to simmer for some time before finally exploding. Said buttons are doing things that are obviously wrong and not caring, having apathy towards others, and threatening her loved ones in any way.
While most would find it difficult, she is able to hold a mask bearing a smile through difficult times. She outright refuses to let anyone see her sad or depressed, outright hiding if she has to cry. She is actually very insecure about her future, as she doesn't really know what to do with her life. She goes along with her mother simply because she doesn't want to disappoint her, She also avoids talking about her bending, somewhat ashamed of her learning disability preventing her from learning proper training, and she gets rather defensive without even realizing it.
History:
The Lian family is quite well known for running and owning one of the most expensive jewelry shops in Ba Sing Se. The story goes that the heiress of the esteemed Lian family decided that she did not want to continue the family business. As an act of rebellion, the young woman named Li Mei began to travel the world instead. She then met a man with whom she had a fling, but then came to her senses and returned home to act as a dutiful daughter--except that her passionate 'fling' resulted in a child. The family kept the entire thing under wraps, claiming that Li Mei's "husband" passed away while the girl was still pregnant. Still, Li Mei decided that she needed her own place without her parents breathing down her neck every second, and so collected her things (and a fraction of her family's wealth) and moved to a place known as Wu Xing. Here, she set up her own place of jewels and gold, and eventually Xia was born.
As Li Mei was a non-bender and had her fling somewhere around the Southern Water Tribe (or was it the North? She couldn't quite recall) to say she was shocked when she found her daughter firebending was an understatement. She was, at first, at a loss on what to do, though she enlisted some help. Xia found that while her bending was plentiful, her control wasn't so great. Besides somehow managing to burn herself frequently, a fire would often start in the house almost daily. Li Mei urged her daughter to control herself, but young Xia found it much more fun to let the flames dance around freely, rather then being held back.
To say that Xia caused much trouble was an understatement. Burning people's property was just another Tuesday, and while at times she meant well, Xia often found herself causing more trouble rather then helping. One such occasion was when thieves snuck into their store after hours--Xia had just happened to have left a scroll on her desk and had gone to get it when she encountered them. The neighbors described the next moment as "a simmering flame suddenly erupting into a volcano" and mentioned that each thief fled howling, their bums on fire as they ran.
Luckily for Li Mei, Xia did mature into a fine young woman, so much that when her parents visited, they suggested that Xia return with them to run the business. While she did manage to put a lid on her bending, it still lacks a lot of the finesse most benders have--though she makes up for it with enthusiastic power. Her bending is also a somewhat touchy subject--as many note, it is often wild and unrefined, though this is because she doesn't want to admit that she has a learning disability that renders her unable to learn lessons--even learning to read was a very difficult task and she often forced herself to stay up late to study as she had trouble understanding her books. Still, she wanted to help her mother more then anything, so her bending simply wasn't a priority to her, and she let it stay where it was.

Pro-bending is such an integral aspect of the series, it would be a shame if I couldn't be one. I mean no disrespect, but I feel like there's a one-sidedness going on here. You're able to RP multiple NPCs to accommodate your character as a Pro-bender, yet state that you don't want to deal with mini-groups and their arcs?

In any case, if there are other RPers out there that are planning on making sheets that would like to join Hokkan in Pro-bending group, that would be okay right? I can create an NPC manager no problem.

It's not really integral in the story. We saw none of it after season one, minus one cut away scene from what the brothers were up to after the season one had concluded. It's was used as plot device for Korra to help learn air bending but give credit as the creators of the series did think of it before Korra was ever even a thing. I'm using it to make my character grow and put in two characters who will be rather fun for all the players as a whole to interact with as well. Hana is a prankster with a golden heart and is extremely friendly. Lee is the jaded guy with a honest and firm personality. They will contrast with other characters and not only improve Ren but others.

Regardless of how integral it is in the story here's the main problem with having another group of pro-benders. Mine are all going to be relatively active in the group. That means we're going to have six benders just by the two of us. Add in two more benders and a chi blocker. That's a rather large group of benders unless the others want to go and be a part of your group. If you think you can handle three other characters then by all means you can try. Not saying I like it or that it's going to be good for the roleplay, there's going to be a large need for bad guys for these gangs we're going to be fighting to actually be a challenge if everyone comes along, but I'm not the guy who's going to be the 'OP GM who doesn't let others have the same thing he has.'

===

As for Xia I'm unsure about what you mean by explosive exactly. I'm relatively fine with most of it even if some of it seems like a bit of a stretch per say but explosive isn't a term I'd use. There's versatile benders who are jacks of all trades and or have multiple bending abilities such as earth bending and metal bending, power benders who are good at powering through things, and skillful benders who specialize in one are or another.

I guess I mean more along the lines of "uncontrolled", you know, like how explosions just seem to happen and while we can plan and make them, we can't really control them? I wasn't sure of another word to use besides uncontrollable, but that's not entirely correct either. Kinda. I mean I can just change it if you'd like.

I'd recommend just saying untrained/Instructed instead of explosive because when I think of explosive fire benders I think of Combustion Benders. Lee can help you advance into whatever area you see fit later.

Apologies. Integral was a poorly chosen word, I meant to say a unique aspect of the series. I've RPed multiple NPCs before, that's not a problem, but I'm not looking to oversaturate the RP. The last thing I want to do is go against whatever you have planned. I'd like my character to have something to do with pro-bending though...would it be okay if he was retired former champ and now a trainer?

If you want to go that route go ahead. It's not that it's what I had planned but it cases the bad guys to have a ridiculous amount of back up. With the crew we have in this rp we already have a team strong enough to make a team avatar but there's possibly three more people coming in.

Yes but until I can confirm the others are definitely not in this you are the last one who isn't mainly from the interest check.

Wouldn't that technically go against what you originally had planned then? For the bad guys to not have a ridiculous amount of back up to accommodate a large group?

In any case, I think I'll have Hokkan be a former Pro-bender/retiree, and go the route you mentioned about Toph's wrestling thing.

They will have the in end game but for the most part in the start towards the middle where they start building up and going all out it seems awkward to be taking on a quarter of a gang per fight unless we're split up. Hana and Lee will be joining us on some occasions but they have their own things to do.

Anycase I will make Hero's character a confirm.

That's essentially how Korra's gang and Tenzen's family, along with misc characters did it. But no worries - no need to press the issue further because as mentioned, Hokkan will be going a different route.
