I feel like a genius.

Lesson learned: I should wash my stove thoroughly and absolutely before trying to use it. Especially if it's an older stove. A gas operate stove. That lit old burned food remnants from the previous owner on fire.

PS: I also learned that soup is a good anti-fire tool.

Buy a electric stove. Their much better than old gas stoves.

You can still get a older electric stove that's safer than a gas one.

Not really. Gas stoves give better, more stable heat control, and also limit hot/cold spots on your pans.

Really? Gas is overall better. Just potentially more hazardous. But it is not as if an electric stove that is never cleaned, cannot catch fire either. They definitely can. Ask me how I know.

Electric stoves worry me because you can't see the heat source and the "hot" signal can go out, which can lead to some nasty burns.
