This was a little idea I had over on TvTropes, and I thought I'd bring it over here as well. I haven't fleshed out the first story just yet, but I'd like to know if anyone would like to play with this premise when it is ready.

It's an interesting concept, not entirely original, but these days most premises aren't. I'd be interested in doing this, but my issue with it is the whole Korra being missing thing. I understand that it's part of the premise, but unless it's necessary to the overarching plot why have Korra go missing? If her being gone is not entirely necessary to how the story goes then there's really no need for her part in the story. That's just my professional opinion though.

My personal opinion on the matter though is that I think the story would be much better if it's not set in the world after the show rather in the between LOA and LOK. I was thinking along the lines of years after Aang died and Korra has either yet to have been found or still doing her training. Going at it this way we can do less work because we have an idea of how things are and how things are going to be in the world. There's also the matter of the chosen one's as a group, while I understand the reason for them why would it be necessary to make an an entire group when all that they would be doing is White Lotus jobs, but in secret ala LOA White Lotus and not mainstream LOK White Lotus. To be fair I do understand that if we go through the story this way there would be no airbendenders (BTW it tries to auto-correct airbender to bartender which is kind of funny to me), which does kind of suck and takes away the five man band element.

Anyway I apologize for the rant. but it was a horrible day and I needed to let off some steam. This is highly unprofessional of me and also rude. I apologize deeply and hope that this does not ruin anything for you.

Hmmm I just realized that the chosen one's could also be called the Black Lotus, a sort of task force White Lotus master agents. They're main job is to look out for any threats to the balance of the world and maintain peace throughout the world, while (possibly) searing for the Avatar and protecting her from those who want to hurt her (Zaheer and his gang.).

The whole "missing Korra" aspect of the premise is a necessary part of the plot; without it the Chosen would never be founded as a group, since their job is to do what the Avatar does in the event that he/she goes missing. The impact Korra's disappearance has on the plot might vary. For the most part, it is a Riddle for the Ages, though maybe it will become the Driving Question for the very last plot.

My personal opinion on the matter though is that I think the story would be much better if it's not set in the world after the show rather in the between LOA and LOK. Yeah, the "no airbenders" part is why I couldn't set it between LOA and LOK (though I almost considered it for a moment). And even between LOA and LOK, the Order of the White Lotus more or less came out as a group, though they still perform duties kept secret to most of the world. And the need I felt for the Five Man Band element kept the timeline somewhere in the future of LOK, because there wouldn't be a sufficient excuse for an airbender's presence without violating the canon if I didn't put the setting there.

Anyway I apologize for the rant. but it was a horrible day and I needed to let off some steam. This is highly unprofessional of me and also rude. I apologize deeply and hope that this does not ruin anything for you.

Pfft, everyone has problems. This time you let it out in a way that was more professional than most rants, and I appreciate the time you took to analyze and critique the premise.

"Black Lotus" isn't a bad name idea for the Chosen as a division of the White Lotus, or for a rock band. Maybe we can toss that in. And that was already intended to be the Chosens' job to begin with, though the search for Korra has fallen to the wayside long before the time the first plot begins.

I like the premise and would love to play as the chosen of men.. Somehow I fund the idea of being a normal human being in this world more fascinating than being a superhuman...

Anyway, the setting would probably work best if it was set right after Aang's little trip to the south pole. But then we wouldn't get to play with guns...

Okay, so that's maybe two people interested. Do we have at least two/three more interested in this idea?

I'm interested!. :)
Do I need to be caught up on the show, though? I think I'm behind two episodes.

Yes, being updated on more or less everything in the Avatar franchise is encouraged.

In spite of my, as you say, rather professional critique rant I am interested and depending on how it plays out I might join, but I might also not so please don't reserve a spot for me. Basically I'm in the fence.

I agree with Halvtand though I'm quite interested in playing a non bender character.

By the way how are you gonna handle the spirits?

I don't fully know how to handle the spirits issue, but I think the idea is that since the Chosen of Air would be picked from the newly-formed Air Nation, the Chosen of Air would try to act as the Spirit liaison for the Chosen, if no one else could handle the duty (The Chosen of Water also sounds like an optional liaison, what with the whole spiritual waterbending deal). And besides, the Big Bads so far are very human people, who don't go out of their way to bother the immortal, indestructible spirits.

There is also only one non-bender spot available, the Chosen of Man, and that's it for the main cast before I even consider supporting/side characters.

Personally I watch the Avatar series one season at a time. So I've seen the last airbender and the first two seasons or Korra. If this is a big problem I can just disappear för a hundred years or so...

It shouldn't take you that long to get updated, right? All the Book 3 Episodes for LOK are on Nick.com.

Hmm after watching the latest episode and finding out that thing about the lotus and the color I'm really hoping we get to be named Black Lotus.

Also my god that girl can waterbend through her waterbending....

Color me interested. I've always wanted to do a decent Avatar RP. If at all possible, I would like to reserve the Earth Bender spot.

Cool. Just a few heads-up about the Chosen, if you're in the mood to reserve spots/make bios:

  • Each of the Chosen must hail from one of the nations. Chosen of Water from one of the two Water Tribes, Chosen of Fire from the Fire Nation, etc. The Chosen of Man will be from the United Republic.

  • The Chosen of Water will end up as the leader of the group, to reflect Korra's nature as an Avatar from the Water Tribe. However, that doesn't mean the Chosen of Water has to exactly be ready; they can slowly develop into the role if you choose.

  • The Chosen should conform to the Five Man Band structure. Here is a link to the trope and the relevant tropes within. Again, there may be some tension before everyone learns how best apply themselves in the team.

Is it bad that I'd like to wait until Book 3 ends before I begin this?

Personally I'd love to wait for book 3 to nd before we begin this. I have conflicting issues when the source material is still running and things can still change. It's also a nice point to pick where the series stops.

So we're going to wait until post August 22. before this is launched? That gives us alot of time to create characters etc. at least.

Yeah, go ahead if you feel like it. I can make a skeleton, if any of you would like one for this RP.

If we wait until book 3 has finished I can join. As I said I watch series whole seasons at a time, once it's done I can catch up fairly quickly.

If someone else thinks they have a better idea/claim to the champion of men then I can go earth instead.

I'd be interested in joining up with this as well - it sounds like a neat idea with some fun possible group dynamics. My preference would be for the Chosen of Water, but I can happily swing any of the others as needed. If the cast is already full then no worries, I'll back out, but just want to put my stamp of interest down here. :)
