Over 150 years old the Roger was once a bulk Military carrier of the Arkadidian Confederation Fleet. A Common site up until 100 years ago this remnant of the Fourth Ascendant War of the Imperium was discover by her Captain an Chief Engineer awaiting the fate of so many of her class.
Purchased from the Breakers Yard The Roger was found to be a low use craft her engines and equipment like new.
Built to cross vast expanses of space the Roger is still equipped with Jump 6 Drives and large hydrogen tanks allowing her to cross 18 Parsecs before refueling.
Massing 15,000 tones the Roger can carry up to 6,000 tones of cargo or 600 marines. Still sporting her 25 dual turrets and her triplex tactical control system and 10 forward 6 aft missile launchers she is not to be taken lightly by any craft of similar size.
Now a long hauler the Roger is able to compete with the corporate bulk haulers or hunt most Pirate vessels.
Crewed by a skeleton crew of 28 the Roger struggles like most independents to make ends meet.
Interstellar travel
Interstellar travel is through the use of the jump drive, which moves a ship through "jump space" a few light-years at a time. Each jump always takes about one week.
Using this method of travel means that space is truly the vast emptiness it really is and the starships are almost like the age of sail where a crew leaves home port and may not return for years
Limited communication
There is no faster-than-light information transfer – meaning no ansible, subspace radio or hyper-wave. Communication is limited to the speed of travel.
Again this means that like the age of sail far-flung Empires are difficult to maintain and information about what's happening in the direction of travel always old and inaccurate, also it means if we break the law in one sector of space all we have to do is keep ahead of the communications carried by other ships
Feudalism
Relatively slow communication speeds mean that local rulers cannot be directly controlled by central authority. Therefore, affairs are managed by independent nobility, who make use of classic titles such as Baron, Duke and Archduke.
Jump Drive
The key characteristic of a jump drive is that it allows a starship to be instantaneously teleported between two points. A jump drive is supposed to make a spaceship go from one point in space to another point measured in Parsecs (A parsec is equivalent to 3.26 light years) and the max jump drives are Jump 6.
While in jump a ship is untouchable and untraceable and it takes one week whether the distance is Jump 1 or Jump 6
