It can get below freezing, but it doesn't really snow. I've lived in Tennessee and I currently live in Texas. It gets cold and sometimes things freeze over, but it's just black ice and a thin sheet of ice over lakes, and never over running water. Tennessee gets down to 10 degrees F (22 below freezing) a lot.

Link Found a good weather website. Has the temperature max, min, and mean for Atlanta from 1961 to 1990. It seems Atlanta is about as hot as TN and TX, but not as cold. It almost never snows, except in January. It rains in the winter and summer, and gets really windy in the spring. I imagine it gets very humid in the summers, too. Any hurricanes should bring long rains as a well.

Ah ok, so it would be uncomfortable and difficult, but not as inherently lethal as a New England winter.

Well, not in the fall or winter. It's definitely lethal in the summer. Heat stroke and all.

Also, I really like the idea of introducing characters far in game. Like in Walking Dead, where they keep having to introduce new people because everyone else died.

It was the most popular show on TV from (I think) the late 50s to the early 70s. It was about a small-town sheriff, Andy Taylor (played by Andy Griffith), his incompetent deputy Barney Fife (played by Don Notts) and the funny stuff that would happen in the town. A running joke was that Barney was so incompetent that Andy only gave him one bullet for his gun, and he had to keep it in his pocket until it was needed, because if you gave him a loaded gun he'd shoot himself in the foot with it every time he tried to draw it.

Sometime tonight I think I'll post my opening IC post. I've settled on:
It's in Atlanta.
It's late October (so, low 50s, high 40s at night),let's say the 29th so we can have a Halloween party in our new apartment.
We meet at a Super Walmart.
We'll find a good apartment building to live in and build our community.

Name: Kevin Stone

Age: 28

Appearance: Kevin stands at an intimidating height of 6'4," but he offsets that by being skinny. He isn't overly skinny, just... Average. He's lean and mean, as he likes to think. Kevin has insanely messy brown hair, which he keeps a reasonable length. His eyes are a very light shade of grey, which gets darker towards his pupils. He has the making of a beard, seeing as he doesn't give a shit about his appearance. He hasn't seen people since the outbreak, the people he has seen were close to death. Kevin has lightly tanned skin, mostly because the weather is beautiful in Altanta, and he loves being outdoors.

Pre-outbreak Occupation: chef

Special skills: cooking (obviously), hunting (he enjoyed hunting before the outbreak), precision shooting (especially skilled with bolt action rifles), observant, good physical condition, very good eyesight

Personality: Kevin is a social and kind-hearted person. He enjoys meeting new people, but has become slightly wary in this new world. Kev is outgoing and and usually always happy. The only thing that will sadden him is memories of his family, who died of the disease. He chooses to be happy because he knows that's what they would want him to do. Stone is driven to survive, and that can bring out a side of him that isn't very friendly. When placed in a survival situation he becomes determined, concentrated, cunning, cold. Kevin is actually quite a genius, if he didn't have such a passions for cooking, he probably could have been a scientist or engineer. This is partly because of his eidetic memory. Around friends Kevin is funny, and quite the joker. Kevin tries his best to do right by people.

Age: 62

Appearance: She wears a pink tank top along with some beige cargo shorts. Also wearing black rounded glasses with one of the lenses cracked slightly. Her hair is short, grey and frizzly and has dark brown eyes. She's quite a short chubby lady, but she has quite a bit of energy in her.

Pre-outbreak Occupation: Nurse

Special skills: Has some knowledge in first-aid, but not that extensive. She did a bit of gardening in her spare time, so she has some gardening skills in mind.

Personality: Peggy's a very sweet old lady, sometimes she is a little strict. She can be like a mother figure to some people that aren't even her own blood. She cares for other people's well being more than her own and would sacrifice herself for anyone she holds dear to her heart.

Bio: Before the outbreak of the disease, Peggy was a nurse who worked mostly every day. She'd come home from work early in the morning every time and go straight to bed. Ever since she started work as a nurse, her relationship with her husband became strained. This relationship became even more strained as they had to take full custody of their granddaughter, Susie, after her daughter had gone to jail for armed robbery. The father had already been long gone after Susie was born. Once the disease hit, her husband quickly became sick and slipped into a coma. Susie succumbed to the disease too.

Peggy felt ill too, but she was somehow able to fight through it. She didn't know why she had to be cursed with watching her loved ones die. After that she mostly stayed in the house, never went back to work and watched the rest of the world get infected with the disease. She wondered if anyone else in the city or even the world survived like her. She hasn't seen anyone for awhile. The food in the house is running out already and her stomach is becoming empty. Now she's traveling around trying to survive.
