Welcome to Uldor.
A member of the Coal Arm, a contemptible fraternal organization that was based in Sappir, had assassinated the King of the Sappiri. The Coal Arm framed the country of Smaragd for the killing, and the Sappiri readily accepted the rumors as truth: that the death of their king was apart of a Smaragdani plot to capture Sappir. In truth, the Sappir people were blinded by a centuries-old feud between the two nations and came to see the Smaragdani as teacherous serpents bent on bringing evil to the world, and Smaragd verily was irresponsible for the assassination. Yet, the blame still fell upon the Sappiri's rival, and Sappir declared war on Smaragd, with the Kingdom of Nintale from the North intervening despite exhortation to avoid the conflict. With that, Sappir and Nintale threw the world into the Global Arcane War in 712 EG, and Sappir, at the time a strong military power, heavily attacked Smaragd and Efydd with the assistance of Nintale. Himaya provided assistance to both sides of the conflict, capitalizing on the events and entering an era of prosperity. Its neutrality was compromised when Nintale and Sappir succeeded in procuring a spell, an arcane flame capable of destroying entire cities, and destroyed one of Himaya's many port towns along the waters of the Oorti Sea in the South. The acts of the Arcarti Rim Union, comprised of Nintale and Sappir, however, tipped the scales of the battle against them and resulted in their defeat in the year 715 EG after Himaya and Smaragd relieved the side of the Forjin continent, north of the Agdan mountains, of Sappiri and Nintaleian joint occupation.

After the war, Nintale took the largest hit, the kingdom being blamed for most war crimes and owing most of the debt caused by the war, disproportionately to Sappiri charges. Smaragd received the territory occupied by Sappir and Nintale from the Agdan Mountains to the Lesser Arcarti shores of the Forjinn continent; however it lost the island of Perak it had gained through colonial exploits before the war, for Smaragd lacked the money necessary to maintain its imperialism on the island in the Southern Arcarti Sea. Himaya, meanwhile, entered an era of prosperity which enabled it to conquer the lands extending from the eastern savannah to the Great Tauran Mountains, and Efydd received full control of the jungle. Gorudon explorers, from Gorudo, a nation unaffected by the war, discovered Dayaman, another unaffected land in the aftermath of the conflict, thereby completing the map of the world and opening up the entirety of the sea to exploration.

Three alliances emerged from the war: the Arcarti Rim Union (Nintale and Sappir), the Glorious Alliance of the Noxard Ocean (Efydd, Himaya, and later Dayaman and Gorudo), and the Western Arcarti Front (Smaragd, Gorudo, and Perak). The Western Arcarti Front focused on protecting Forjinn and remained neutral, however the Arcarti Rim Union and the Glorious Alliance continued to be at odds with each other. Their conflict could potentially erupt into another terrible war.

  5. My say is final.
  6. Please avoid designing a character with an overused character archetype. Really this just means avoiding cliches like the "dead parents" cliche, the "discordant family" cliche, etc. and not creating your character as though you intend for them to be one of the most powerful or the center of attention. This is also relevant.
  7. I will tell you if there is a significant grammar issue with your posts that is recurring. If you make multiple posts with the same mistake, I'll likely point it out, but not out of spite. We're all learning, so it's fine.

Background:
Biography: Louis grew up a poor boy in the region of Dayaman, often did odd jobs for money. Louis' mother died during childbirth, leaving only his father to raise him. Louis' father helped with the exportation of rare goods in the region, and as a result was not home often. Growing up, uneducated, Louis eventually made two friends. The three of them eventually hatched an adventurous plan, to pool their money together and buy a ship, which surprisingly worked out. The three of them now own a modest sailing vessel, among the smallest class of seaworthy ships with a broad beam and a shallow draft that suggests the ship's origin as a littoral vessel. It is liable to swamp in harsh waters but the wind is little threat to it, as it possesses only one sailing mast, and one head-mast. Its surfaces are mostly bare wood, with curing and treatment of the lumber spared where possible, creating interesting defects in the interior walls that they have either disguised with decoration or patched over to the best of their abilities. The ship bears no flag and its sails are stock white canvas, freshly acquired. The only armament aboard is a ballista mounted at the bow originally designed to project mooring ropes and rescue cables, although it could very easilly fire conventional bolts and now doubt the crew has lofty aspirations of bringing it up to the standards of true glory. Louis took up the persona of a young, firebrand captain, styling himself 'Caesar'. Young, fearless, and lacking in wit, Louis set sail with his two friends to find fame, power and wealth, at any cost.
Personality: Louis grew up always wanting for more than he had, looking at fancy houses, or huge ships, and wishing he owned said properties. This want set a fire deep inside the boy, who wanted nothing but to have his name sung and written in the annals of history. This fire leads Louis to be extremely determined and headstrong, leading to an air of bravado. This being said, Louis is just at good as making friends, as he is at making enemies, also having a knack for conducting a fistfight with a man, then turning around and sharing drinks with the same man.
Religion: Louis holds no Gods or religion. Growing up poor in Dayaman left Louis a very realistic young boy, experiencing the hardships of life young in his life, leaving often cynical when it came to affairs concerning Gods.

Appearance:
Clothing: Louis wears a loose fitting beige tunic, ragged and slightly torn, with one sleeve being completely ripped off, and the other ending right above the elbow. Louis' pants are made of the same material, and color, and end at the knees, also slightly torn. The item of worth is Louis' is a smoky grey naval pea coat, given to him by Rarden, which he almost always buttoned up. Louis also wears a very ragged tricone hat, made out of cow leather, and has obviously seen better years. The hat was a payment for an odd job he did as a kid, and he has worn it ever since that day. For shoes, Louis typically wears a type of moccasins, which fit tight and snugly.
Height: Louis stands at a height of 5'10''.
Weight: Louis weighs in at about 70kg, giving him a lean, but not particularly muscular build. Despite this, Louis manages to cut a handsome figure.
Hair: Louis' hair is so dark brown that it is often mistaken for black hair, and poofs out from his head, slightly.
Eyes: Louis has heterochromia, leading one eye to be a baby blue color, and the other one being a dark brown eye.

To be honest, I didn't expect any immediate attention today, but yes, I do have a format I want to use. I just appended it to the post along with a description of each race.
I also intend on keeping track of the statuses of characters in this roleplay (not as in RPG-style stats, just information), like what magic they are capable of, where they are currently, etc., so when you post your character sheet, it will show up on the second post along with a hider showing their status.

Background:
Biography: Rarden grew up with his mom while his father served the Dayamanian Navy. He never grew particularly close to them and spent most of his time in the street or at odd jobs trying to strum up some money for the family, because that was the way it was supposed to be. He fell in with the wrong crowd repeatedly but Rarden always had a peculiar nose for trouble, in truth, this was because he always assumed trouble was around the corner. Somehow the boy made it through his childhood and adolescence without becoming a wanted criminal and turned out of it with two friends, Louis among them. By then, he had done his dues for his family and without any particular bond with them decided to throw his lot in with his new crew. The three of them quickly hatched a scheme to use their accumulated money to purchase a respectable ship and strike out into the world for fame and fortune. Rarden followed along, now a man of his own and seeking to fill his own pockets for once. His only significant heirloom, one of his father's navy jackets, he gave to his new captain. He is by and large the accountant of the group and while he doesn't quite decide where they go and what they do it is certainly his responsibility to find out how exactly they're going to do it. Personality: Rarden is a man who has a hard time keeping his eye off the bottom line. He feels compelled to enjoy the youth of his life but he is a perpetually worried about success and even more so about failure. He hates waste with a passion and while not exactly mired in number crunching efficiency is the first person to complain about a lack of it. He is rarely the ideas guy, and is less prone to suggest a course of action than he is to be preparing to avoid the worst. His ideals aside, he is a friendly enough man. He does not trust easily in others but it is very difficult to lose that trust. He is outspoken, and prone to rambling rants about any topic that catches his interest. Rarden's sense of humor is dull, and many regard him as absolutely bookish which has put him at natural odds with many of his colleagues. Contrary to what his occupation would suggest, he actually rather values the idea of authority and subscribes very closely to the rule of law. It is unfortunate for many institutions of law that they do not often meet his standards. Not necessarily arrogant around people, he tends to place his beliefs and politics far over his peers'.
Religion: Agnostic in truth but curious enough to read up on the local religion wherever he goes.

Appearance:
Clothing: Rarden dresses conservatively with an air that clashes with his surroundings and his chosen companions. His entire wardrobe consists of muted colors but in particular he tons a dark blue tunic for sailing. Its threads are clearly worn and even more clearly cared for, without a significant cut or tear in the garment despite the fact that the color has begun to wear out of its seams and edges. It is short sleeved, draping over his elbows with broad, flappy sleeve ends. It has a crew neck, which he preferred entirely for irony's sake, that fits around his neck in the only well fitting part of the garment. The hem of the tunic is as over-wide as the sleeves, and hangs usually untucked around his waist. His chosen legwear is typically a set of canvas shorts, knee length and frankly impossible to wear down. The rugged fabric has survived everything he could throw at it and more, and the multi-pocketed set of sailing shorts is a respected and tried member of his wardrobe. He owns several pair. He wears ankle length leather shoes, quick to come on and off in the case of waterlogging and with enough traction to serve some utility on the slippery wooden decks of a ship. In his opinion, they don't look half bad walking around town in either.

Weight: 68kg (~149 lbs), as he is thin and unmuscular with a soft, unshaped physique.
Hair: Light brown, sometimes mistaken for a muddied blonde but he insists that it is brown. He keeps it at a medium length which gives it enough space to become truly scruffy in appearance.
Eyes: Cloudy, light green.
Tattoos/Markings: A handful of small scars cover his left hand from a long past incident with a man and a knife.

Background:
Biography:Jacen was born in the big city to parents that abandoned him dropping him off in front of a temple to let those inside take care of him, and they raised him to be a fine boy hoping that he would become a man of the cloth when he got older, they taught him how to read and write, how to perform rituals, and many other things but. By the time Jacen was 12 years old he had decided that the life of the cloth was not for him, when he told the head of the temple he wanted to be a knight, or a mage, or some dashing hero he was only laughed at so he ran away from the temple to live a life in the streets.

Living a life on the streets was tough as he had little food to survive often times he would have to resort to scrounging food out of the trash, until one day in particular he was desperate, and starving and there was a trader hawking food from his stall so Jacen made his move and sprinted for the stall taking a loaf of bread and some cheese but he didn't make it far before the local guards had him at that point he had given up he was going to the dungeon and would probably never see the light of day ever again. But then there was a loud boom and a cloud of smoke drifted over the guards, who almost like they had been struck by lightning went down in the smoke this gave Jacen his chance to flee and he did fleeing for an alleyway there he was confronted by his savior a thief the watch had been hunting for a long long time, and she offered him a chance as her pupil and Jacen seeing the chance to live like the heros in the books he used to read accepted.

Training was hard but by the time Jacen was finished at age 18 he had already been an accomplished thief him and his master became thieves for hire and were hired to steal things by traders to either take out competition, or to just take stuff back, they also stole for themselves mostly from the upper class merchants and members of parliament, things were good for Jacen until him and his master were betrayed their contact sold them out to the watch when they were to get their pay they were both hauled off to the dungeons and were to be sent to court, there they decided his master would be executed for how much she had stolen and from a time when she had to kill a couple members of the watch to get away, Jacen on the other hand would have to sit in that dungeon for years, and there he sat until he was 22 years old and they finally released him.

Life on the outside was different but Jacen found a job as a dock worker lifting up crates of goods and putting them on ships or on carts that were to be sent off, but by night he was a thief not making the same mistakes he took his orders and his payments from dead drops he had around the city and he hired the poor and downtrodden to be his spies from there he became the most wanted thief in the city but all people could take down about him was his hood and cloak earning him the nickname in the city as "The Cloak" and from then to now he continues to do his day job and then at night he dons his cloak and proceeds to steal from the rich, and steal for his clients.

Personality:Jacen is a very cocky and talkative individual, but when he's on the job he's serious and gets his job done quickly and quietly, he also doesn't have very much respect for laws or the watch and will often violate the law as much as possible during the night, he also hates the upper class, but he is also a man of vices and he has them all gambling,drinking,and women Jacen has a weakness for all three, but his strongest asset is he will not murder he only kills when he needs to or when he is threatened.
Religion:Non-religious even with his past Jacen doesn't believe in a god.

Appearance:
Clothing:During the day Jacen is dressed in a dark green tunic and brown breeches that show off his muscles from working the dock, during the night however Jacen dresses in a leather vest on top of a black tunic with leather leggings and boots to match, there he also dons his trademark black cloak and hood, he also has a bandoleer with smoke bombs on it, a quiver full of steel arrows, a oak bow, a falchion and dagger, and a club he uses to knock out people who get in his way.

Hair:Jacen's hair is cut short and is as black as the night itself.

Background:
Biography: Arisu was born to an average family. She learned how to read and write and in general got a good education. She would often go out on walks in which she would often get annoyed by the children she would see. However Arisu would try to hold back her rage. Arisu already had a short temper and found the children really annoying. She liked going on walks but the children that would spend time in the areas that she walked would cling to her and so she would get really annoyed at them. And then trying really hard not to retaliate against the children meant that she was still angry when she got back to her home and just overall after this happened many times, she was utterly pissed at the kids. Over time her bottled up rage grew and grew. Her temper became shorter and shorter. At the age of 14 Arisu had had enough of her family and left. She did well on the streets, but her short temper got her nowhere. Arisu soon became quite good at martial arts and was living on the streets. She would do occasional odd jobs for money which she would spend accordingly on feed, water, and other items. She also got into performing tricks, such as magic tricks, for people on the streets to get money. Doing this has resulted with Arisu becoming good at magic tricks.
Personality: Arisu is quick to anger and does not hesitate to attack and retaliate. She doesn't think anything of another people merely thinking of them as 'other lifeforms'. She doesn't really like to take risks if she can help it. Arisu doesnt easily trust people but you can get her to trust you. She is very loyal to those she deems as her friends and will not betray them.
Religion: None

Appearance:
Clothing: Arisu wears a black dress that goes to her knees. The dress has red rimming. She also wears a pair of black boots and a black chocker with a skull on it. Arisu wears a set of black bands around her wrists.

Hair: Arisu has long fiery red hair that is very sleek and, if she doesn't have it tied up, drags on the floor/ground. She normally has it in two braids, but occasionally lets it down/

Alright, here is some important information I left out about the social state and culture of Dayaman:
  • Families are very close-knit; more often than not they take care of the children of other family members, and there is a strong, traditional sense of familial honor and respect.
  • Most families love their children, especially the most religious of the families, but some families can be a little reckless with the children. Nevertheless, most parents care for their young, for it is taboo to not take care of them.
  • The common religion in Dayaman was given to them by Gorudo missionaries in 716 EG, and this religion is known throughout the world as Erdoni. The deities in the religion smite the wicked, and there are no evil gods in the religion. This affected Dayaman culture by ingraining a strong sense of hospitality towards all, otherwise they believed they would receive terrible punishment in the afterlife for their misdeeds.

As far as dates go, this roleplay is set to take place in the year 725 EG, just in the middle of the slow recovery effort.

And I have some issues with the sheets that have already been submitted. I need you to tone down the tragic back-story trope just a little bit to make things feel a little more humanely realistic.

For Enalais, the treatment of Jacen by the people of the temple strongly depends on which temple of which religion it was. In at least one or two of the religions of Himaya, that act of mockery is considered heresy.

BlackCat, I don't really understand how going off on walks and being around children could cause someone's personality to worsen, could you elaborate?

Other than that, I think I can go off with accepting everyone, as long as clear-cut cliches have been avoided. Your characters have been dutifully added to the roster. ┐(´∇`)┌

And also I just said that her temper grew worse over time. That was a result of many factors in her life. One of them being the annoying kids.

Name: Dameon Grayfire

Background:
Biography: Dameon grew up in one of the noble families of Sappir, and as such was groomed from birth to serve the priests of Solarity. He showed to have a knack for his studies and a quick mind, and as such climbed through the ranks of the clergy at a reasonable pace. By age 40 he had become a Cleric, one of the Warrior-Priest caste of solarity. The day he received his brand, his sword, and his rites of a cleric was the happiest of his life. However the God of the Sun clearly had a different fate set in mind for Dameon. One of Dameon's tasks as a cleric was guarding the King, and as the Coal Arm ended the King's life, so to did it end Dameon's life in the clergy. Stripped of his title, but not of his devotion, he was cast out of his religion by his own comrades for his failure. However before they could take from him his sword, equipment, and pride, he took off into the night, determined to somehow avenge his king's death and once more return to the order of the Acolytes of the Sun.

Personality: Dameon is haughty and arrogant, and can be quite supercilious to others, especially mixed-breeds and infidels. However he is also deeply loyal to those he trusts, and will drop everything to help them. Dameon is extremely pious, and to him his religion and the creed that comes along with it comes before all else. He is driven a need to avenge his king and return to his homeland, but has no real idea about how to do that. He is usually calm and a quick learner, but doesn't adapt very well to complex situations.

Religion: Solarity

Appearance:
Clothing: White robes with gold trim, on top of this he wears Ivory colored armor, but just greaves, gauntlets, and Pauldrons. In addition he has an amulet and ring that show his rank as a cleric, and a large golden Great sword strapped to his back

Height: 6'3 (although his unwaveringly erect posture gives him an even taller appearence)

Weight: 135 lbs

Build: Extremely slight, as most Faelorn are. However what he lacks in strength he makes up for in dexterity.

Hair: Gray and flows down to the middle of his back, often braided or put in a pony tail when he must fight.

Eyes: Pale Blue, with a gaze that could bore holes into iron

Tattoos/Markings: A brand in the center of his chest depicting the sun.

Name: Darxin Maalam Caelsancti.

Nationality: Himaya.
Race(s): Efyddian-Faelorn and Dayaman-Dorthan.

Background:
Biography:
A Dorthan mother and Faelorn father raised Darxin in his homeland of Himaya. His childhood wasn't spent to its fullest, but in his years from age 10 up until now, he grew particularly close to his parents and more spiritually in touch with himself. In school, surely the young Caelsancti wasn't always the most popular of the students, but he was one of the brightest. His intelligence, however, was largely unnoticed by a majority of his teachers and classmates, much to his dismay. Of course, he'd always had an interest in the politics of the lands, for his father permitted him to visit a parliamentary session or two together. Even in his own home, though, he felt his opinion was always trivialized by his family and friends no matter how valuable he thought it was. His mother encouraged him to give to the poor, thus he offered a loaf of bread every now and then, which the family could afford because of his father's merchant status. Even still, his mother took him to her homeland in Dayaman, which revealed to him their ways and furthered his mental growth greatly, changing him for the rest of his life into a penitent, religious devotee who greatly lived up to the virtues of his temple's hypocritical beliefs.
Personality: Resultant of his upbringing, Darxin ended up being very attention-seeking due to some neglect by friends and close family to important emotional needs. He remains optimistic in the aftermath of a war he wasn't alive to witness the ominousness of, and he stays very protective of those around him, even if they don't devote themselves to protecting him. Background:
Biography: Fitch was born as the only son to an eccentric one-armed ex-whaler in a small town in Dayaman. His mother left when he was extremely young, probably due to his father's odd nature and love of drink. For as far back as he could remember, the old man talked of his battles with the monsters of the sea. He spoke of leviathans as large as ships, and krakens that could tear a man limb from limb. He claimed he lost his arm in an encounter with one of these monsters of the deep. The old man's tales instilled a sense of wonder in Fitch, and a desire to one day embark on such adventures himself.
As he grew, he did what he could to help his father, often making meager money catching and selling fish in the local market. His brash attitude and his inherited love of alcohol caused him to get in a number of altercations with other locals, and thus he learned to fight at a young age, though not before he suffered several beatings. Despite, or perhaps because of, his tenacity he made two friends who seemed to share his lust for adventure. The trio hatched a plan to make their dreams a reality, and eventually scrounged up enough money to procure a small vessel. He left most of his belongings, along with a small sum of money, behind with his father, who supported his decision through-and-through. Armed with only the clothes on his back, a bottle of rum, and his father's old whaling harpoon, he set out with his friends for the adventure of a lifetime.

Personality: Fitch is the loose-cannon of the group. He is brash and unapologetic, nearly always allowing his mouth to outrun his brain by leaps and bounds. The young man also has a distinct love for drink, which only seems to amplify his tenacity tenfold. His sharp tongue and caustic sense of humor have landed him in hot water more than a few times, but he seems to enjoy the backlash for his actions, having gained the ability to take quite a bit of punishment from his fight-riddled childhood . His tenacity is offset a bit by his affinity for clumsiness. It seems the young man has been fighting a losing war with gravity since the day he was born. To those willing to overlook his shortcomings, Fitch is a loyal friend and a ceaseless reservoir of entertainment.

Religion: Being rather unlearned, Fitch never really subscribed to any religion, though more out of ignorance than any real belief in either direction.

Appearance:

Clothing: Fitch's clothing is cheap and comfortable. He wears a black button-up shirt, the sleeves of which have been haphazardly cut off, making it into a sort of makeshift vest. He also wears a pair of loosely fitting grey trousers and a thick leather belt. His feet are covered with sturdy boots made of black leather. The boots have a slight heel, making the young man's footsteps almost as loud as his voice. His only notable piece of clothing is a long crimson scarf made of a soft fabric that he almost always wears around his neck. The ends of the scarf are a bit tattered from wear. His father told him it was the only thing his mother left behind for her only son when she left them.

Height: Fitch stands a few inches above six feet tall.

Weight: Fitch weighs in at roughly 180 pounds, making him extremely lanky.

Hair: Fitch has an unkempt mop of fiery red hair that hangs down to his shoulders. His messy bangs tend to fall in front of his eyes regularly, despite his best efforts to control them.

Eyes: Fitch has bright blue eyes.

Tattoos/Markings: Fitch has numerous scars all over his body from a combination of fishing incidents, accidents due to clumsiness, and a plethora of fights throughout his childhood. His face and shoulders are lightly freckled from the sun.
