Name
Reed Norman
Age
21
Appearance
Reed looks like a typical smart rich kid, always dressed in a shirt and tie, trying his hardest to make himself look as above people as possible. He has short and scruffy hair and is almost always adorned with a thin coat of stubble on his cheeks. He needs glasses, always small and with black thin frames that seem to always only just be holding on to the edge of his nose. He has bright green eyes that seem to constantly be looking around and taking in the minor details; the way someone reacts when they lie, the position of their lips when they receive bad news and all the slight mannerisms of a person. He has a thin scar that mars the skin on his neck, making a full circle around his throat. He hates talking about that scar. He is Caucasian, his family history not really one for mixing ethnicities in the blood. He is rather tall, standing at about 6’2 the last time he checked. He is rather lean, a product of days of not eating rather than training. He has a constant air of dishevelment about him and has the unique skill of making tailored suits look slightly off when he wears them. Maybe it’s the tie too loose or the slight bend in his posture from days at a time, hunched over working on his computer. Either way it makes him seem a lot more a approachable then when he has to be formal. In those situations, he can pull off the esteemed student with some effort on his part.
Personality
Reed is the typical nerd; persistently playing video games and he enjoys anime, cartoons and pop culture. He has occasionally spent days at a time in his room, raiding online and watching his shows. Despite this addiction, he is a very social and charismatic person…at least he thinks he is. He often riddles his speech with techno babble and jargon when he gets excited. His speech often picks up really quickly when he gets lost in a subject that he is excited about. His speech patterns and accent set him in a long line of British ancestry, a heritage he neither cares for nor does he want people to know. When formality is necessary, he can become the perfect gentleman.
Statement
Relationship: “The murdered girl? Hmm…Not really…saw her a few times around the school”
Alibi: “hmmm….that time…I was raiding. Yeah….you could check my internet usage and my voice chat logs if needed.”
Motive: “Why would I murder someone…My anger gets vented in my games…”

EDIT - Made some nicer style edits.

Okay, guys, I've posted the IC but please don't follow up until I've updated the posting order.

I wanted to characterize the detectives a bit, I've updated the rules regarding NPC's under "Setting, Theme and Twists", Other Important points. So that they won't come off as god's in the RP.

EDIT: I hope I establish the setting effectively.

You know what, I won't limit you guys within a time frame, for the first round, each get's to post according to the order I've mentioned above in their own time.

and we'll see what'll be the best course of moderating posting speed afterwards :)

Okay, I've added a new twist to the game, well more like plot-pointers. I intentionally left blanks on the Initial IC to help stir the plot.

Phase 1 Mysteries:
-----> 1) Who’s the victim?;
-----> 2) How was she murdered?;
-----> 3) Where was she murdered?

Events are posted if one or multiple conditions are achieved:
-----> 1) Revealed a lie;
-----> 2) Player generated Key-Points;
-----> 3) Mysteries Answered Sufficiently

Interjection and Intervention by the GM:
-----> 1) Player/Character Drop;
-----> 2) Breaking Rules & Regulation;

This will be updated accordingly.

What MOBA was Reed playing? League of Legends? Smite?

Also, I'm a little confused as to how lies will be revealed if no one knows which of our statements are actually lies, including ourselves or the GM.

Is it like... if enough people believe a rumor going around, then it is true? Or do the NPCs sniff out the lies? Lol, I'm new to this style of RP but am always excited to learn new things.

I don't know. But I'm going to make my posts really avoid my characters actual thoughts, and more based on his actions and expressions. Not to mention you can always leave details out of your answers or your reasons on why you might have a certain opinion about a scenario. It's how you can seem like a potential candidate for the actual player and not just know that this character is definitely not the murderer. For instance, if a character thought in his head "Who would do something like this?"no one lies in their head about such a thought. So you OOCly know that so and so isn't the murderer, but your character doesn't know that information so you have to pretend your suspicious of them, and that wouldn't make it fun. :P I've never done this style of rp, I don't think anyone has, since the murderer hasn't even been determined by anyone. It's how the ball roles and where and how hard you roll it.

To answer the question on how a lie is revealed and how the murderer is chosen:

Knowledge within the RPverse is subjective i.e. information are character driven and not logic base, just because one character says he was out partying (or was presented in doing so) doesn't make it true.

"An unreliable narrator is a narrator, whether in literature, film, or theatre, whose credibility has been seriously compromised... In some cases the narrator's unreliability is never fully revealed but only hinted at, leaving readers to wonder how much the narrator should be trusted and how the story should be interpreted." - Wikipedia; Unreliable narrator

Avoid suspicion, manipulate your friends, and eliminate your enemies.

Basically, the players should assume another player’s character is guilty and theirs innocent. To increase NPC suspicion of a character, a player should present a scenario. Other players either conform or oppose this scenario. The GM would then judge the scenario based on Plot Development, Plausibility and presented Evidences. Majority conformity isn’t a factor (this would have been a popularity contest if that were the case and not a murder mystery). If the suggested evidences are deemed plausible and doesn’t conflict with previous evidences then the scenario is deemed true. If this isn’t the case, then the scenario is deemed false. If it’s plausible and no previous evidences were stated, it’s deemed suspicious. If it’s improbable but there are evidences at hand, it’s deemed suspicious.

GM would make the scenario canon (either as true, suspicious and/or false) and fill in plot loop holes. Plot Penalties are given accordingly. Example: If a character was caught lying (and deemed suspicious) about their where abouts (doesn’t have to be related to the crime). On her next post, the player may be required to post where her character truly was. This post would then be deemed true.

You have to build a case against a character.

Tip: Use Phase Mysteries to help you guide the plot.
Tip: Assume other players are pathological liars and you're an angel sent by God!

PureThoughts’ explanation / suggestion is a valid way of posting but it isn’t necessary. It’s all a matter of style on how you present your character’s innocence and another's guilt :) just remember, knowledge is subjective within the RPverse.
