The Day The World Went Away by Nine Inch Nails

The year is 4258. Advancement in space technology allowed interplanetary travel to be achieved in a matter of hours. Mercury, Venus, the Moon and Mars have been completely terraformed within five centuries. The pioneers of these planets and their descendants have develop their own identity and culture. Planetoid size space stations inhabit the Lagrange Points of Earth and numerous lesser size stations across the Goldilocks. Mining Colonies have also been establish in the Asteroid Belt. Though the human race have yet to extend their presence outwards and into the outer sphere, they have their sights set upon it.

But great achievements come with great costs. The considerably rapid colonization of the inner sphere has placed a toll on the system’s natural resources. Common food shortages, displacements both in materials and people, and depletion are some of the issues planetary governments are facing. Intraplanetary socio-political tension is rising and rumors of a system scale war are spreading. Riots, rebellion and small military skirmishes have broken out with a red dawn on the horizon. Due to the increasing tension, the decennial Inner Sphere Summit (ISS) is being held two years early. The planet Luna* is hosting the 31st ISS and the whole human populace is watching and anticipating the outcome of the summit. The final decision would either mean the first intraplanetary war or years of turbulent peace.

*The Moon was one of the first heavenly body to be complelety terraformed and has been vital during the terraformation of Mars and Venus as a midway station. To commemorate the achievement and the satellite’s role, Political leaders has deemed the Moon a planet (though scientifically it’s still a satellite) with a sovereign government. The first ruling of the intraplanetary government was to establish its official name as Luna. These happened during the 30th century.

Theme & Setting: Lonely Planet/Pompeii is a sci-fi political and military themed RP and is set millennia in the future, wherein the inner solar system has been colonized. I'm planning to make Lonely Planet an open persistent world i.e. their is no player limits and player can join any time during the RP. Anything that happens during the RP is considered canon, unless a post breaks one or more RPverse rules.
Game Flow Summary: Players, via their characters, act as a planetary representative and are in charge of their planets political interests. There is no victory conditions nor losing either. The RP is about leading your planet to success during troubled times. The GM will provide political scenarios to keep the RP engaging.
Expected Standards: Due to politics, and in relation moral, ethical and philosophical debates, being an underlying theme, I believe this RP would be best suited for High Casual to Advance Players who enjoy a lesser scale Character Role in a Nation RP with a grand setting.
If this generates enough interest, I'll post an OOC.

Super interested. I'd be interested in the Martian intraplanetary government.

I'm still working on the OOC but here's a preview:

Please keep in mind this is just a draft...

You guys interested in creating you own planetary political history (territories it's holding, current and previous political climate, etc.) or should I make a baseline? So far, I have written a brief history of the past millennia detailing the colonization of space but I haven't added any political aspects of it. Also I have the solar system map wherein you guys can claim territories.

Lonely Planet Map

What I had in mind when I say claim territories:

I like the map and all, but could you make it a bit bigger?

It's just the draft map, I'm still adding the asteroid belt which is kinda hard to include, seeing that it has 3 areas and millions of planetoids. Also, I'm thinking if I can fit in the Jovian Satellites as precursor to the terraformation planned by the governments. It really depends if I can figure a way to fit the belt in the map.

Also the question remains: Should I write up a baseline or it'll be up to you guys?

Colour me interested as well, especially if an OOC pops up.

I'd like to either duke it out for Mars... Or take one of the Terran bodies (Earth or Luna, don't matter)... With Venus as my third, last choice. lol

I have a couple questions, I have some interest for maybe triton.

However, I'm curious as to why this RP is set so far in the future. Is the year a result of a different calender or is it really this far future?

I ask because I'm curious how culturally different My faction should be given such long time span.

Regarding the year, Lonely Planet still follows the Gregorian calendar (modern day calendar) so yes, it's really that far in the future. I came up with the year because to my belief it would at least take 5 centuries to terraform a planet. I assume such technologies would be available around the 27th century (but space colonies via stations was already at hand around 24th century). First is the colonization of Luna, say it started in 27th century, then Mars in 30th century then Venus on 31st century. Mercury will be the last one terraformed so on 33rd century, which would be the half-way terraformation of Venus.

Following this train of thought, Luna will be completely terraformed in 31st century, Mars in 34th, Venus in the 35th and Mercury in the 38th. Also wanted generations, post-terraformation, to have been present on each planets surface i.e. having their own culture distinct from Earth. Starting on the completion of Mercury's terraformation, I added 5 centuries which sums up to year 4200.

I only have one thing to say regarding the timeline: We're realistically planning to colonize the moon by 2050 and mars by 2100. So... Realistically, our timeline set humanity back by a few hundred years.

I doubt they'll have those settlements up and running for civilians by 2050. Honestly, if you look at history, the first time we had a person on the moon was 1969, so basically it took them nearly a hundred years just to establish a moon station. I can't hardly call that colonization. Either ways, they still have to research long term effects of living in low-gravity which will take at least another few decades. Also, terraformation is still fiction at this point, if ever it'll be viable which I doubt. But hey, it makes a good story.

So, is this going to be realism Sci-Fi NRP?! If so, I love you.

Yeah basically, there won't be any hyper drives, FTLs, warp gates or something like that. The most fiction about the idea is probably the terrafromation. Everything else, I believe is within the realm of technology. Either way, I want to focus on the sociopolitical side than the tech and military aspects of it. Just a sample of what I have in mind: The RP begins with the Inner Sphere Summit, as stated above, it's being held 2 years early because of the tension of the lack of resources. The Spokesman of the summit ask the players, who're playing representatives of their respected planets: Does begin Human, born and raised in another planet with same living conditions as Earth, give you the right to the resources Earth has? Earth having the most accessible abiotic resources (mentals and similar), it's a prime location any government will fight for. Players will then wage a political war to gain and maintain the resources they need. So instead of maneuvering troops, it's about scheming alliances and double-crossing enemies.
