Giygas told us mcmmo levels and any items we want will be transfered over. Someone else told me modded (signs added) chests make them easier to identify to move, but I honestly have no idea how stuff will be transfered.

Keeping mcmmo levels alone would have been the perfect way to "not lose everything you worked for" and have a fresh start. I wish I knew that was on the table back when we were still talking about it. Fresh starts are fun, you guyz. Really. You guys?

Nah, but I guess I'll take my fair share of transferred items. Hopefully we're not talking about entire collections, tho.

I'm taking everything I have.

And yes fresh starts are fun, but I put a lot of work into what I've acquired. I don't feel like starting over in that regard. And this actually came up in this very thread a week or so back when giygas and I realized the server had just gotten too big--which is why lag got so bad.

I wish I was able to convince you that keeping items between worlds is a poor choice. *snark and arguments redacted*

Last summer I had a server I was on all summer and I really grew to love it. Knew all the people, did voice calls with them, had all these injokes and maymays (jurbans), etc.

Then the server did a reset and I lost all my drive to play. Granted, I got busy in the fall, but there was a bout month gap in there that I just didn't care anymore. I take a while to warm up to a new server and once I get settled resetting kills any momentum and investment I have. Just how I am, maybe it's not so for other people. I think this is a good middle ground.

The trick is, you're not supposed to get that invested in a single game save. I'm super glad that I didn't ruin any of my subsequent Minecraft games after resetting my first epic single player world because of an update. Thank god the Xbox didn't allow you to do that. And the PC doesn't want you to do that either, really. There's a reason you're not typically allowed to do that. There's a reason that most every game ever doesn't let you keep the items from your previous game.

I could understand if it was single player Minecraft, but it's not. What's the point of multiplayer if you're not on an even playing field with everyone else?

Mega long-term survival is an incredibly niche interest. Some people enjoy the idea of crafting cities with things they've gotten from endless hours of survival. It's more of an exercise in tedium than it is a challenge.

In my mind, the absolute funnest part of Minecraft is building yourself anew and working with the limited resources you have. Of course the drive behind this is to one day have everything you could ever need, but after you get to that point the challenging part is over. You're maxed out. Sure, you can get more things, but there really isn't a point. Minecraft not having an ending is an illusion for me. It's fun to work towards the idea of accomplishing every single thing and building an entire world, until it isn't anymore.

And the best part about Minecraft multiplayer is seeing who's done what, and who can get the coolest things first.

I don't want to play in a game where everything has already been accomplished ... tenfold.

And I'm probably not going to after hearing that people are keeping absolutely everything. I'm not in it for the decade stretch. Thanks but no thanks.

The point is having fun playing with other people. Whether or not everyone is on an even playing field is kind of irrelevant to that, because this server is not competitive in nature. Also, as you stated yourself elsewhere in your post, there comes a point in survival where you're so loaded with materials that surviving is not a challenge. It's kind of an inevitability to people who know what they're doing in Minecraft, and it doesn't take very long if you're smart about it. Transferring materials would essentially just be skipping that build up stage for those who wish to skip it.

You can always just not have your stuff transferred and start fresh yourself. It's not like other people having things will have any effect on your own personal play, unless you choose to let it have that impact.

But if it's such a bit problem for you that you don't want to play on the server any more after the reset, then I guess that's fine too.

Yeah, Awson. Sorry, but I gotta agree with Jorick. There's no one way to enjoy yourself here. Just chill and have fun.

I understand what you guys are saying, but I still think that fighting to keep the game as close to vanilla as possible was a worthwhile cause.

If it's just me though, I lose.

And because of my tastes, I won't enjoy playing it with starting resources and without competitiveness. It would be cool if I could ignore the competitive bit, but then it just wouldn't be minecraft for me. If I'm playing minecraft I wanna play minecraft. There are other ways to dick around with friends for the sake of it.
