I've hit a little snag with one of my RPs and I was hoping that someone could give me some insight on how to handle this situation.

What do you do when you've set up a scene for your partner and they completely ignore what you wrote? I'm talking about, no response to the dialogue, going off on their own and forgetting the limitations of the world with no regard to logic and no thought of the consequences within the story.

Their post just doesn't make sense to me, and I don't know what to do with myself because I feel a little stuck. I don't want to ask them to rewrite it because that just seems rude, but at the same time, I have no idea how to give a quality reply.

I think the only real advice anyone can give you is to talk to your partner. PM them and ask them what they meant with their post. There are polite ways to frame this of course. It's not an easy situation but I don't know that asking a bunch of people who don't know the full circumstances is as effective as going straight to the source. Good communication IC and OOC can only help your story.

No, I know that. I like to communicate and if someone asked me to clarify what I meant in a post, I would gladly explain. I've had misunderstandings with partners in the past where they've gotten defensive about questions, and it totally ruined the mood of the RP. I don't want that to happen again. I meant in general, how would others handle it when a post seems so random and you're left looking at your screen like, wut??

Guess I'm being kind of a wimp about it, hah.

I get that sometimes. I tend to confuse easily, and sometimes I accidentally confuse others. If my post is ever bothering you, please let me know and I will gladly fix/explain it.

I usually just play it off as my brain being silly. People seem to respond better if you try to make it seem like you are at fault not them. It helps to keep people from feeling like you are accusing them.

1x1: Why would I subject myself to this section Ask about it. If the other person overreacts and what not, it's not worth your time, move on. There are significantly better partners waiting for you.

Groups: If you aren't the GM, bring it up with them in private. If you are the GM, bring it up with them in private. If they refuse to change and you are the GM, drop them. If it's consistently causing you problems as a player, consider leaving should the GM not do anything about it, or find a way to live with it via focusing on players other than the troublemaker.

I'd just ask for clarification.

And if it turned it to be some kind of Mary Sue attempt I'd either act on it as GM or report it to the GM. If said report didn't work I'd probably just get up and leave the RP because shit like that often leads to failure. It'd take an incredible group (or one I'm close to) to keep me from leaving.
