<Sheets>

Bikini Atoll experiment, Baker test, 24 July 1946.

TL;DR Bullet Points
- First off, props to Jannah -- loved the idea the first time.
- Cold War
- Real Nations; you assume leadership of that nation and must guide them through the foreign policy problems of the era.
- Play starts on January 1st, 1950
- Casual Standards apply
- I know what I'm talking about, check this freakin' Tom Lehrer song.
- Please post sheets in the Sheets thread. Thank you.
- (the sheet is not big or anything, I just want to keep them where it's easy to find them, rather than hunt through an OOC's many posts for the sheets. :) )
- Addendum: Regarding claims, the policy is first come, first served. In the case of a disapproval of a submitted sheet, I will give the player a chance to rewrite the sheet with suggested corrections before moving to the next claim.

In Character:
The world is a scarier place than it used to be; it is smaller and more deadly. The advent of the nuclear age leaves the entire world under the shadow of the Sword of Damocles, and there is the heightened terror that some madman might decide to press the button and start a conflict that would destroy all. The big players eye each other warily and jockey for improved strategic position, trying to deny each other assets and contain each other's power, but it is an shadowy struggle where warfare, espionage and diplomacy find their distinctions blurred.

Meanwhile, smaller countries are caught in the wake of the movements of greater powers; they are often the battlegrounds of the era, where ideological conflict by proxy between factions supported by the main superpowers tear these smaller countries apart. Nationalists, communists, colonists, natives, terrorists, guerrillas, rebels...supported by this power or that, with the partners giving lip service to the values of their patrons, or worse, perhaps holding with the often-extreme ideologies.

Out of Character:
Players select a nation in the real world (that exists in 1950) and takes on the role of that nation's leadership as it navigates the currents of the Cold War. While the nations are not fictional, the leaders can be real world leaders or invented characters -- whichever one is easiest. However, despite any differences in leadership, the nations will still be in the same position in the RP as they were in 1950 in our world.

There is a potential for messy argument and contention inherent in any Nation RP, but I hope to keep that to a minimum. If everyone remembers to stick to facts and be civil, the RP will be able to proceed. On the other hand, the RP involves people playing off one another as antagonists, so we'll just try to work through the problems as they show up.

Sounds good. I added a bit about claims because I wanted to be clear that I consider a claim taken when a sheet is approved. On the other hand, the sheet is simple and I don't anticipate any disapprovals of sheets.

Edit: In Byrd Man's case, you can probably recycle much of the material from Jannah's RP, no problemo. That goes for anyone's sheets, really.

Looks good. Might want to add in the numbers of troops occupying Germany and Japan and Italy, just for clarification, since the number of troops in those locations is probably important. I'd even go so far as to further break down numbers to the forces in Trieste and West Berlin, which are potential flashpoints here.

Also, are we assuming the Communists were defeated in the Greek Civil War (1946-1949)?

Given that it is 1950, yes.

I just meant that nothing was changed for the historical perspective; as the Soviet player, supporting the Greek Communists would've been on my to-do list.

Yeah, I noticed that. There are literally no listings that I can find, and I can usually dig something up. We might just have to go with modern numbers and live with it, albeit less equipment as a lot of their stuff, particularly the naval assets, are second-hand from other powers.

maybe even bigger than current given the instability and ease with which the military secured power. Also most of the gear would come from the US over other sources given their ties.
