Based on the characters so far, we're probably going to be a primarily offensive unit.

Side plot idea: Rebirth facilities

Do all three factions use Rebirth? And if so, do they have their own facilities, maybe a short distance from a primary command center, that are dedicated to Rebirth? Or are the HQs the only places with Rebirth facilities?

Name( a real name, no anime-like names): Sarah Walker
Nickname(optional but recommended): Nurse
gender: Female
Age: 27
Description/picture(I prefer descriptions, but if you want to use a pic that's fine):
Rank: Warrant officer
Class: Combat Medic
preferred weapons: Assault rifles

TAR/TRV- Advanced laser sight, Soft point ammo, Silencer (at times), 2x reflex sight

TX-2 repeater, Laser sight,

helmet: Composite,

camouflage(optional): Flame Camo

certifications(2 suit ability slots available, every other slot is 1):

Suit slot 1- Grenade Bandoleer
Suit slot 2- Advanced shield capacitor

Ability slot- Shield Regeneration device
Tool slot- Medical applicator

Passive slot- Triage

Utility slot- Regen kits x 4

background: Sarah walker used to be a Doctor on board the great transport vessels before the war began. When the rebels started to strike with their terrorism campaign and the Technophiles in the So called 'sovreignty' started to abduct and experiment on other humans after the discovery of the many alien artifacts on the surface of auraxis. It was not alltogether surprising that most doctors and nurses found themselves called to establish front line surgeries and medical units to help with the then massive influx of wounded.

The sight of so many wounded at the hands of Rebel IED's placed in clearly civilian and innocent locations was more than enough to inspire many in her field to take up arms in the military.

Personality:

I think a better nickname would be 'Doc,' since that's pretty much standard on any medic. That's what my character would be calling her, at least. Just my opinion.

Every spawn point on the map, a.k.a facilities, Biolabs, etc. have rebirth facilities. that's where you'd spawn in game. so, yeah. and I agree, DOc sounds a bitt better but it's really up to her

Accepted, but please finish the whole thing. you left out the description and personality, 2 key things needed.

Well I prefer the Nurse thing to Doc. I never liked Doc as a nickname for characters. Honestly I was probably not going to have a nickname at all and just use her name.

That might be better. I say Nurse wouldn't be as good as Doc because it doesn't, idk, sound as fluid? Not as reflexive? I can't really imagine a guy getting shot, falling into a ditch and his best buddy calling out:
"NUUUURRSSE!, I NEED SOME HELP!"

And it says you don't have to have a nickname. Ghost/Sanders would either call her by Sarah or Doc. If he called her anything, I'm not quite sure as to what kind of personality he is. So talk at all except for orders, or just no unneeded, or just wahithateatiuha

so ye

For the sake of strategic importance and the IC story, could perhaps there be a central Rebirth facility that uses, say, trains of some sort to transport recently Rebirthed to Biolabs and other facilities. I would think that the process of, well, transferring a consciousness into what is essentially a clone over and over again would be deemed an unnecessary tax on a facilities' resources and power.

That is, if bodies have the be kept in storage. If they're just 'made,' where the body is 'constructed' with, I dunno, a supply of proteins and a ton of nanites, then it'd be less likely to have a facility specifically for Rebirth and more like a wing.

But realistically, out of a game, it'd be unlikely that every facility in a region would have such Rebirth departments. If there were a regional or area Rebirth facility, then it'd be both a heavily defended facility, and a very, very important strategic target. Take down a Rebirth facility, you take down the reinforcements. The war isn't about holding out until support gets there, it sounds more about wearing them down. If they keep coming, with very few true losses, then everything has to be quick. Attack, kill, get in and out before they Rebirth and regroup. So if you take out a Rebirth facility, they'd be forced to draw on soldiers from usually-untargetted facilities to defend the recently-attacked Rebirth facility, and on other important targets, as well as to fight the battles.

If one were to be attacking the Command Center or some other very, very important target, one would want to take down the Rebirth first, at least for a short duration. That eliminates fast reinforcement, which means putting one down will mean he'll STAY down, not just get back up in a chamber a couple miles away.

See what I mean?

that...actually makes a bit more sense.....

and then again, I like the idea of being able to kill someone permanently without destroying a facility dedicated to rebirthing...somehow, I don't know how.

also, they fully reconstruct you.

I remember reading a Planetside 1 fanfic a few years ago called The Triumvirate. The way it represented the war was generally more in line with a modern one, so people died a lot less often and respawning was a rare occurrence; after nine or ten respawns, the failure rate rose dramatically to something like 40-50% due to digital copying errors in the DNA. Basically a soldier had a serving life of about eight respawns before it was no longer safe for him to be on the front line.
Another idea would be a simple broad spectrum jammer; if someone does, how does their conciousness get transferred to the new body? If you jam that signal, then the conciousness stays with the corpse and the rebirthed body is uh... empty.
Or headshots. Perhaps headshots destroy the brain before the mind can be transferred properly.
Plenty of ideas floating around for that.

Maybe all soldiers carry a special something that respawns them?
And if it's destroyed, they're gone.

I've never played the game EVE, but I did read a pretty cool novel over the empires and stuff that had a similar idea. No, the technological level and the need to keep soldiers alive for as long as possible would mean that no soldier would 'carry' their consciousness. Rather, I would think of it as a Rebirth facility that soldiers have to go to periodically and 'upload' their consciousness- their memories and everything- to keep the on-site data of that person up-to-date. If you die, you Rebirth from the latest 'save.'

If people carried a pack that uploaded themselves to a new body, it'd be extremely painful. Imagine getting a bullet to the gut, spending an hour or two just bleeding out, and then get your consciousness restored to a new body. Many soldiers would start to become very afraid of battle, knowing that the pain could start right over. It'd be torture. I think if they just periodically 'uploaded,' then they'd be spared that kind of pain. And if there was a pack, why not just shoot the packs, and watch them panic? Knowing you'd come right back once you die would give you unbelievable confidence, but if you suddenly have that torn away from you in the middle of a firefight... it'd be disastrous.

I'm not so sure. Having a backup without your current memories would be tantamount to a clone of you and not actually you if you see what I mean. So for the individual dying it would be true death with no continuity of conciousness between old and new bodies. I reckon that would be a damn sight scarier than dealing with a personality upload (although granted, both seem pretty bloody traumatising).

Nations are using soldiers who come back over and over again to fight again, fight fight fight. Several lifetimes given to fighting, because you've died and lived again, just to die and live once more. After dying, a person would no longer be their true self. No longer a true human being; just an organic machine with a thinking mind inside of it, planted in it like a USB drive. To have men die a dozen times over for the same cause, in the same war, for the same purpose, with very little progress, it is insane, inhuman. Would it not be cheaper just to have used robots? Mass-manufactured entities that can work seamlessly in sync, without any questioning of orders.

By dying, you ARE a clone. You're not the real you; you're just a copy. You're a clone anyways, regardless of whether it's uploaded real-time, as your mind develops and expands, or when you just 'save' it. I don't see what you mean, because by dying and being Rebirthed, whether from the last moment of clear conscious or the last moment you uploaded before the battle, you're still a clone. It doesn't change; one is just a copy of the real person. Then a copy of that copy. Then a copy of the copy of the copy. All the way until either the war ends, or there are so many copied versions of you that have lived and died that you cannot be copied without seriously corrupting what's left.

Planetside 2 has a good setup for the respawn system, to make it realistic, of sorts. But it also presents severe moral issues. Why not just clone the best of each class? Just over and over, give them the knowledge that their sole purpose is to serve their nation, and then just send them in floods or teams.

Hell, when death becomes so disregarded like so, then why not just have rushers? Where all they do is run straight into the fray, firing and firing, until they fall down, where they wake up again, transport to the front, and then do it all over again.
