BasicFull Name: Malakaus Ralthavar Marcrosias "Metal Wolf"
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Race: Half-Orc
AppearancePhysical Description:
Clothing: Generally wears whatever is most practical for the given occasion. Thick layers of fur for cold weather, light and breathable cotton for hot weather, pants in public situations. Some common pieces of clothes he tries to incorporate into his attires is a little scruffy red cape (Barely goes down his back) and a tribal necklace, the only things left from his birth family, and a skull-mask that was a gift from his time in the wilderness.
Armour: Wears a heavy set of
iron armor with matching
boots,
gauntlets, and
helmet. To further increase his already high natural durability in addition to his armor, he also has a
spiked shield. Good for blocking and bashing.
Other: Often carries a backpack, belts, and bandoliers with various things he feels he may need, such as his waterskins, flasks of oil, etc.
BackgroundFaction: Volunteer
"So apparently, this guy, Malakaus, was raised by wolves, or so he says. Certainly seems civil enough, even if this guy has some strange habits and smells god-awful. He came from some mountainous region that he doesn't recall but there was lots of giant monsters and other bed-time horror story monsters. He wasn't sure what became of his family aside from that he was just a babe wrapped in a red blanket when he was found by wolves for one reason or another. He was raised by them, got into their mentality and life style before a witch picked him up. She taught him how to read and do magic tricks, but soon he started tapping into his innate power: Crafting. He crafted things from bones, wood, stone, and just about anything he could get his hands on. The Witch taught him enchanting to help improve his craft, but he wanted to know more, like how to work metal. So when he was about ten years old or so he tried to go to a city and get an education, but he got ran out cause he's an orc. So he's been living with the witch out in the wilderness for a while, learning how to work just about anything together on his own. Now what's a guy like him doing here, all he says was that the witch told him that they both needed to leave the forest for a while and she pointed him towards The Cutlass. The guy's a weirdo but he does his job and doesn't seem to go out of his way to bother anyone. Gods know what he does on his own though."Moral AlignmentSelflessness: 3 - Self-Preservation is pretty high on Malakaus to-do list. While he's willing to lend a hand for friends and family, he won't give his help if he is somehow inconvenienced by it.
Snobbery: 5 - Malakaus gets rather tired of the whole "Uncleaned Savage" stereotype everyone keeps thinking he perpetuates. He does indeed have a naturally strong odor which he tries to alleviate by washing when possible, and his pragmatic views tend to make him neglect cleanliness in the short-run if there is more important things to do at the moment. To him, if you can do something about your station, you ought to do so.
Racist Tendencies: While Malakaus doesn't particularly dislike any race, though he does have jabs for just about everyone when he can think of one. He has a particular love/hate relationship with elves, a sort of one-sided rivalry with humans, and admiration for dwarves. Halfbreeds such as himself piques his curiosity, though he otherwise treats them the same as their more fantastical half.
Piety: 3 - When Malakaus lived with the witch, she taught him of things like animal gods, nature deities, and other vaguely shamam/pagan religious views. She also taught him that if he knew what he was doing he could
kill them for their power. If there is a god or gods, than all that meant was that there was someone somewhere with a lot of power, power which could be his one day.
Justice: 1 - Malakaus can be... Retributive. If he calls for anyone to help him, it's not to do justice for him, it's to assist him to getting vengeance on his foe. He dislikes thieves and other wrong-doers, and often seeks to solve his own problems himself. And if you come to him to solve a problem, expect him to handle it in a matter which best suits him as well. And to him, all slights against him can be dealt with by death and violence. Perhaps not all the time depending on various factors. Violence isn't the answer; it's a question and Malakaus would often chose yes.
Sexist Tendencies: 10 - Malakaus is not even aware of any form of discrimination based on sex. He figures if you don't like a person, it's because you don't like that person for something they did, not because they happened to be male or female. That being said, he often feels the need to "Compare" himself to other males and is rather nervous around females. His adopted family never gave him "The Talk" and so whenever he happens to be aroused by a woman, he get's scared of these unknown feelings and would flee whenever possible.
CombatMain Skills: Malakaus is a savage and brutal fighter, but that doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's doing. His attacks could often be decried as simple or basic, but he wastes no energy or time with complicated or technical moves: only what is most efficient and consistent. To that end, just about anything in his hands will become a deadly weapon, regardless if they're naught but a mere stick or a masterwork sword. Sure he may not know how to flourish or preform a secret martial arts technique, but if he knows
how it's suppose to kill something, you can be certain that he will make sure the weapon does just that. In terms of weapon proficiency, in order from most skilled to mostly competent: Shields, Spears, and Axes. If he can strap even just a little buckler onto his arm, you can be certain that Malakaus is well armed. With a shield he can parry and deflect just about any direct attack blow and throw it back at his enemy before they even begin their next assault. The spear is a simple weapon that Malakaus has gotten much use out of back during his days at the forest, and her prefers short spears that can be used efficiently in a melee and also thrown a good thirty to forty feet. Axes are his next favorite, likely some innate ability found in all orcs. He uses a medium sized war axes if he can get his hands on one: small enough that you don't need two hands to use it but big enough that you can.
That being said, that's merely his offensive. Where Malakaus truly shines in battle is his defensive ability: He has a natural toughness compounded by armor, but you would be a naive fool to believe that this slows him down. Instead of using his strength to do more damage, he uses his strength to move his body, allowing him to dance across the battlefield with startling speed and grace. While he still shows his ever simple and crude style of fighting, the fact that he can keep up with the most agile of fighters while being as durable as a castle bulwark makes him a enemy to be feared: not because of his ability to kill, but for his inability to die.
Secondary Skills: Should for some reason Malakaus be without a shield, spear, or axe, he can make due with a dagger, a rifle, or his own grappling ability. While his dagger is more of a utility tool than an outright weapon, he knows how to skin and butcher man and beast alike. He's also picked up the use of firearms, though he dislikes pistols and prefers rifles. While not the best shot, more often than not he can hit a target in the heat of battle if he has a clean line of sight and no one is trying to kill him at the moment. And should he not even have those he can always rely on his strength to grapple his enemy, and he's quite the avid wrestler. His strength allows him to easily snap a grown orc's neck by accident, and less hardy races fare no better.
Primary Weapon:
Spear or
Axe often with his shield. His spear has two prongs on the base of the spear blade to catch his opponent's weapons and prevents their bodies from getting stuck on the tip of his spear. His axe not only has an edged blade but also a pointed spike on the back, allowing him to pierce heavier armors should he come across them.
Secondary Weapon: If he doesn't have his axe as his secondary, he is either has his dagger sheathed on his hip or a rifle on his back. The dagger is karambit-like in design and made from the horn of a wyvern that nested in the forest that Malakaus once lived in. It is doubled-edged. His rifle is unique in that it is an experimental weapon that Malakaus often changes or customizes. Right now it's a double-barrel blunderbuss, but he plans to improve it somehow, starting with the bullets.
Hidden/Stored Weapons: Malakaus wears a length of chain that seems to be used as a belt, but in truth it's an emergency weapon which he can use to garote his opponent or wrap around his arm to make into an improvised cestus.
Passive/SuppportMain Skills: Malakaus earns his keep on
The Cutlass as the ships go-to craftsman. And not just any one craft: He can mold bones, cut stone, carve wood, and work metal into all sorts of things. Weapons, furniture, accessories, just provide him time and materials and he can make something for you. He also experiments and looks to improve the design of things around him, his current interest being firearms. He has a closely guarded blueprint he doesn't want anyone to know about until it is perfected. Additionally, while his magic skills are pitiful, he is a highly skilled enchanter and can often work runes and magical effects on anything he gets his hands on.
Secondary Skills: Malakaus has some skills handling animals, cooking, and dealing with various plants and poisons. He's more of a survivalist than a naturalist however: He can tell you which ones are poisonous and edible, but he won't know which one will cure you of your cold. He's a decent tracker as well, but only in forests and mountains.
Items of Note: Malakaus carries all the tools he needs for his craft skills as well as various journals and books he can read and write in. Most of his books pertain to things like his craft skills, but he also has some books on animals and plants. His journals are used to keep thoughts he may later forget, ideas and blueprints, and general notes on his life or on others.
Anti-Godmod 3000Achlies’ Heel: Malakaus is insecure and doesn't handle situations where he's useless well. He
MUST be able to do something, and for better or worse, he will. When a problem arrives you can expect that Malakaus will give it his all to do whatever it is he needs to do, even if there is nothing for him to do. This makes him rather easy to manipulate, should you need someone to do some grunt or dirty work, if you you just need to figure out a way to get rid of Malakaus without dirtying your own hands.
