This is an RP I wrote up a long time ago. It made it one page on the original site. With about 2 more years under my belt I've decided to update it, and rework it. This is the sort of chopped up ideas of it.

{Set up}

Space has always been considered the final frontier, but it is also the most dangerous. Earth had invested heavily into space exploration, but only recently had it made any success. A planet far out past Pluto in a different solar system was found to have the ability to support life. The Space Station Tyo was established in its orbit to collect more information on the planet. Over the next few months the researchers confirmed that the planet had life and a human friendly atmosphere. Until now no humans had been allowed on the planet’s surface.

A team of specialists was deployed to the station to become the first explorers on the planet. This team codenamed EXO was a collection of humans with variable skills to aid in the exploration. On the day of deployment the EXOs entered the drop pods and were launched to the surface.

The mission was a success. The EXOs were able to expand the stations research potential exponentially. Within another few months the station planned to set up a lab on the surface. A new team of EXOs was organized to do this mission and all seemed like a success.


Eight EXOs and a group of thirty scientists prepared a shuttle to take to the surface and be used as a ferry between the station and lab as it was built. Then everything fell apart. Unknown to the EXOs or anyone else a ninth EXO had remained behind, and sabotaged the station. He had planned to destroy the station before the shuttle launched, but the flight had been moved up. The shuttle only barely made it into the planet’s atmosphere before the station exploded. Debris rained down around them, and pelted the ship. Most of its systems were knocked out, and it only just made a crash landing. None of the scientists survived, and the ship was too damaged to fly again without massive repairs. You know rescue will not come, so it is time to complete your mission.


{EXO’s}

The Exo’s are human pilots of mechanized suits. The suits they pilot were created originally to assist in the building of Tyo Station. When their potential as a way to explore the alien planet the suits were re-designed and customized for the specialist who would pilot them.


each suit is designed specifically for each pilot. No two are the same. Some pilots have even customized their suits further to their own likings.Each EXO has their own special set of skills, and were hand picked for just that.

This alien world has similar climates to earth, but has more continent then ocean. The planet is capped with artic poles like earth, and follows similar climate dispersion. Below the artic is temperate areas, below that are deserts, and at the equator rainforests. Few species on the planet have been researched heavily yet, and those that have share basic traits like those of earth animals, but many new and strange ones. The crash zone was in the southern part of the north temperate zone.


{Earth}

the planet we all hail from. Its still not the greatest place really even in the year four thousand there is a lot of political issues and all sorts of nonsense going on there. Space exploration has become very important as it has become harder to find places to live, and the moon colony was far too problematic in its construction to be used on full sized planets.

{Rules}
2. This is a survival style RP. I expect things to break, I expect people to get sick, and I expect you to treat it as a life or death situation. Yes you are EXOs but that doesn’t make you invincible. The suits will sustain their energy levels, unless their generator breaks, so you needn’t worry about that, but the armor, weapons, and other systems that take a beating will need repair and maintenance.[/LEFT]
3.EXO suits cannot be lived in twenty four seven. It is physically demanding to use the suit even though it improves physical prowess. You also will need to eat and drink, which isn’t so easy to do through a helmet, trust me I’ve tried. Not to mention it get’s hot in those things. (That is one draw back of them btw. They overheat after a while since they have to produce their own energy.)[/LEFT]
4. Play to your character strengths. If you are a marine don’t go trying to repair advanced devices without some help from the engineer. If you are the scout please don’t try and do surgery that’s the medic’s job.

6. I’m the GM, and I expect you to understand that things may not always benefit everyone. If something happens to you in the story I am not doing it to you for any reason other than the story and that you were the one who got picked by luck. I’m here to help you though. If you have questions ask me. I will remove you if you are inactive for far too long though, and re-open the spot.

Appearance: Paragraphs and pic (the picture is optional the writing is not). I want to know their physical appearance and their typical clothes. It isn’t required for you to wear any combat armor or anything like that though you obviously can.
Background: You’re history before the EXOs, on earth, and on the station(if you were on the station before being and EXO), and you’re experience as one. Note this is the first ground mission EVER.


Personality: I want to know who this person is almost as well as they do. Also how they cope with stress, their ideals, and a few quotes by them or another person (real or from the IC world).

EXO suit: (name, appearance (pic is ok), weapons, and other notable features. These suits are generally only a little larger than the pilot. Think War Monger from Iron Man, but each one is made specifically for its pilot, so EX. I’m playing the engineer so mine is built so I can still be dexterous while working with machines. A marine’s might be a much bigger one made for combat.)
Work skill:
Personal weapons: (one large and two small. Ex. Sniper rifle and two pistols. OR four small Ex. Two knives two pistols.)
Survival gear: (try to work off of what others brought so that everyone is equipped. Five items. Ex. Tent, flares, canteen, hatchet, tool kit)

RP example: (I’m looking for a rather large example based on this RP. I do NOT want previous work. I want an original one based on this RP. You need to Rp the scenario of your preparation for the mission which begins tomorrow. You’ve been on this station almost a year now as one of the EXOs and you are finally getting your first mission down on planet 4578. I want to see that personality and background come up in this.)

RP theme song: this is fully optional, but if you had to put a theme song to the RP what would it be?

yay! how big are the exo suits? and what kind of tech are we looking at. are we trying to keep things as realistic as possible, or operating off of rule of cool? mix there of? also just to affirm, we will be able to customize our own suits right?

Well the suit partially depends on the size of your character. if your character is 5 foot tall they're exo suit would be about 7-7 and a half feet tall. The cockpit is in the chest and their limbs go into the exo suit's limbs. This is very far into the future, but don't think gundum or gurren lagann. The suits excluding the marines weren't made with combat focus anyway (they do have weapons because its a hostile alien planet, but they aren't tanks with cannons like the marines). I'll use the example of my character's suit so heres a snipit:

Canustrike. A custom EXO that Izic built. He refused to let anyone else do the job. It’s visually simple EXO. It has the basics of an exo-suit in that it cover Izic completely in a good four inches of suit. It is designed to have excellent movement capabilities, so the armor is still very light. It has a black, dark grey, and dark green paint job like old military camo, but he just used the colors overall not camo. The suit is about eight foot tall since Izic prefers the additional size when he‘s doing big jobs. The head/helmet is modeled after a wolf’s head, and the optical ports seem to have a very menacing glare to them. The feet and hands are both clawed. Two hooked longs swords come out of the top of the forearms. Izic put theses in to highlight the agility of the suit, and make it a great melee unit. Even as an engineer Izic wanted a very strong combat EXO. If anything he wanted it so he could survive to help the others. He also put in two heavy fire shotguns which attach to his back. These spray after impact and cause more damage to the inside of the target.

But there is a flip side to this EXO. Izic knew he’d have to still work in it so the claws on the hand retract, or can be used as misc. tools while working. The dexterity and percision of the EXO also lets Izic work as well in it as out of it.

are there any anime or movies with similar gear? i would like to see a picture if possible to better visualize. i was originally thinking kind of like the things from Avatar the movie with the blue aliens, but more toned down and a little smaller. but i guess those would be still be a bit large.

well the main weapons are laser based or bullet based. a blade of some sort can't hurt. Laser's make better rapid weapons while bullets still hold out for range. Lasers work off energy, but need a lot of repairs. bullet based weaponry just end up running out of ammo if you can't make more somehow.

for the marines I'd allow some smaller explosive weapons grenades maybe a smaller rocket launcher.

Try to remember the survival aspect as well. These weapons should be slightly multi-faceted.

For example on my character's exo his blades also are hooks used for climbing and a good way to grab onto something and pull it closer like a crate or fellow exo.

Also you can have weapons on your pilot. Izic carries a shotgun, and a laser pistol (which is really a modified welder).

There are other weapon types out there of course though. Flamethrowers bit risky but doable, non-lethal weapons like tranq guns and shock weapons. Pretty much if you think of it and rationalize it I would consider it.

have basic idea for design and everything. typing out background info will take a bit. should have it posted tomorrow or at least by saturday. probably going with experimental scout exo with some weapons and general survival gear if thats alright. do you have energy shields? or is armor the only means of protecting ones self? sorry i have so many questions i just love to deck out these kinds of htings.

You could have an energy shield, but itd be an actual shield not a full body force field. A force field would take tons of energy.

Ive allowed one before when I ran the original of this rp. The medic could make a huge dome but basically shut down to act as the generator

cool cool. probably wont do a shield. would you mind terribly if i wrote up some history on the exo suits. i thought of some really cool world building stuff. and explanations on the developement of tech. obviously youd be free to rewrite it as you saw fit since its your game.

well I mean the general origin of exo's was they started out at constuction suits for building the station. Ya know protect the workers from the vacuum of space and any debris as well as for heavy lifting inside (after they had gravity).

That's pretty much all the official lore I had for them. They were chosen to be remade into exploration and combat exo's for since they would be easy to retrofit and the station only needed 1 or 2 on board for repairs.

So go wild, and then we'll see.

Early Military Uses for ExoSuits:
Exosuits early on were developed as a natural progression from the old space suits used by astronauts in early days of space exploration. As tech increased, you could minimize many of the features found on enabling a much more streamlined and les s awkward movement for astronauts. While these suits were excellent for basic maintenance and moving around space stations, they were not durable enough for some tasks required of astro-engineers. To facilitate the construction of new Facilities outside of the atmosphere, Scientists utilized existing prosthetic technology (originally designed for medical applications) and modified it in order created the first Exosuits. These suits could increase strength of an engineer without sacrificing too much of his dexterity. With more weight capacity and surface area to work with, designers could also add more layers to the suits outer skins preventing punctures and even creating room for new systems.
Military officers immediately saw many applications for exosuits and the benefits they could offer, and started investing heavily into R&D into this new field. Since space warfare hadn’t yet become a large scale concern, having a exosuit being vacuum friendly was not necessary at this stage. Many of the environmental safeguards on suits were pulled off to allow for armor and more durable, if bulkier, materials for the frame. These early combat suits proved to be very useful for clearing out buildings, and tight infantry combat. The extra armor would allow them to take hits for their squad mates and the firepower boost let them hammer through whatever defenses an enemy might have established. The open battlefield was a different story however. The Bulky prototypes quickly proved ineffectual. While they did increase the armor for a single combat unit, tanks and heavy mechs proved to be far superior for that role. These early suits were also too heavy and limited the unit’s mobility drastically. They were most suited towards staying toward the rear lines laying down fire support, which again, there were much better units to choose from for roles like that. Still determined to find a way to make these viable, more money was thrown at projects to improve designs.
Time and effort eventually paid off with the creation of combat unit that revolutionized modern warfare. Dubbed the Centurion, this design simplified many of the internal ‘muscle’ systems of the previous suit preventing many of the rigid awkward movements that earlier suits were limited to. While the weight capacity and raw power of the Centurion was actually less than its predecessors, the new design allowed the pilot to make far better use of what the strength did supply. The new design also modified many of the joints and movement systems in a way that it actually increased a soldier’s movement instead of impeding it. Also being able to wield more powerful weapons made the Centurion a force to be reckoned with. Simply put, The Centurion combat unit made your infantryman stronger, faster, and tougher than other units on the field and they were cheap enough to justify entering into production and integration into the armed forces. There was also a modified version which traded out some of the armor to make it space viable to be used for research facilities off world. This unit laid the bulwark for subsequent units.

Recent Developments in Exo use:
As exosuits became more ingrained into military combat, the need for diversity in abilities arose. Some units were given increased weight capacities, armor and armament while others put their stock in supreme speed and maneuverability. As Exosuits diversified, 3 general unit styles clarified they’re own roles. Dreadnaught Exos were the toughest units used to drive enemies back, or lead a charge by absorbing damage with their sturdy frames and laying down devastating firepower from their main weapons as well as additional gun mounts that were added onto more complex models typically a good load out for squad leaders or commanding officers. Your Basic assault frame was an all-around suit designed for a good mix of firepower, armor and mobility. This was the most common unit for basic infantry units. Light frames decided that if you didn’t get hit, you wouldn’t need to worry about durability. Light exosuits typically Trade armor and armament in exchange for exceptional agility, speed, and camouflage. The Light exosuits role is a complex mix of recon, flanking enemies and The basic set up for an exo squad would be 1 dreadnaught, 2-3 assault frames, and 1 scout.
TR-E(Trec series) Legendary exosuit- Terrain Recon unit or TR was a project to make exosuit movement feel as close to a natural extension of human abilities. Many scout pilots had complained about Scout exosuits feeling like they were limited because their suits didn’t feel natural. In a unit where maneuverability and speed are of utmost importance, researchers tried to create a new model that emulated human movment to the best of their abilities. The first model (A series) was widely considered a failure. While its construction more closely resembled human muscular systems, it was weak and calibrated poorly. Subsequent models made many improvements resulting in the famous E series (TR-e207). This was the most natural feeling chasis created to date, with excellent power to weight ratio and a phenomenal top speed.

Well the main discrepancy is that EXOs are from the station only. They were made on the station a few light years from earth. Its more conversion from the construction suits to the exos. Earth has nothing to do with EXOs.

Think more each exo is 100percent custom. They were made by the engineers on the station for each pilot.

Right. Sooooooooo... seeing as the zoologist and scout are taken... thinking that like I'd try out for the botanist...? Yush that!
