In this alternate universe, magic trumps might every time. The arcane has been assimilated into everyday life. Every citizen casts, coaxes, dabbles, or dares to dive into magic. Society is run by and for Wizards and Witches of all shapes and sizes, colors and creeds. The warriors of olden days have been replaced, or rather augmented. The scholars always have much to study. The leaders have more to delegate. This civilization extends to every edge of one continent, which is also the largest on the world.

The Radiant (not a compliment) Sarah Hemlock is a teacher of children whom are still growing into magical maturity. She is not their actual mentor, whom grants them their starting magical abilities through one-on-one tutoring. She is just an intelligent, and rather beautiful, women who has taken the responsibility of making the youth well-rounded as well as knowledgeable. Today, her lectures will aid you with the introduction of this world.










You will start as a Novice mage, or Bright, Newly independent and living in the city of Osra. Here will be the start of your legend, or the interesting story people laugh about at the bar, either or.

The first six to be accepted will be our starting lineup in this hopefully long-term story. They will be the only ones to choose their basic abilities at the beginning. They will have to provide information about their mentor and background.

After we have 6, no more will be introduced for a time. At the point where characters are ready to take on apprentices, they may look through the OOC and select other potential players through PM. If connection is established and details are worked out, then they will be accepted.

Appearance: Thin to the point of malnourishment, tiny by human standards, and with unkempt black hair and a large nose and slightly perky pointed ears. Large, watery, dark brown eyes. Is probably green-skinned beneath the dust and grime.

Personality: Has spent nearly his entire life around goblins (and one elf) and doesn't open up easily (or at all) to others. Often terrified of shadows. Pyrophobic. Agoraphobic. Megalophobic. When he speaks, it's with a small, raspy, nasally voice that seems to apologize for intruding upon the world. If anyone dropped their coin purse in front of him, he would be too scared to speak to them, worried they would accuse him of stealing. If would be best if he kept it for himself and put it to good use. He would justify his actions repeatedly, if only to shut out the part of him screaming at himself for being too weak to do what was right.

Spellbook:
1. Ember - A simple light spell; produces a small amber-colored ball that hovers for a minute or two
2. Echo - A camouflage spell; sound waves blur the vision of those nearby and make him harder to be seen
3. Scorch - A hissing flame is thrown from the tip of his wooden sword; can start a small fire or (more often) singe eyebrows

Inventory: Carries a small wooden toy sword, about the size of a short sword in his hands. Has some pocket change, enough for some old bread and stale beer until his parents send him some more of what little money they have. Was given a heavy gold ring with elvish writing scrawled around the outer edge, but he pawned that as soon as he jumped off the carriage into the city.

Clothing: He may be easily mistaken for a mound of rags. Wears a very roomy, very worn hooded brown robe that may have been bright red ages ago and miles away. The robe is slightly brighter around its edge, hinting at a former embroidery of some sort. Under the robe, he is wrapped with half a dozen belts full of pockets and pouches, the vast majority of which are empty save for a tiny handful of coins and crumpled paper money. Wears a simple half-laced tunic and pants beneath that. Heavily scuffed brown leather walking boots.

Other: He has nightmares. Most nights he can't remember them. When he does, it is the same dream every time. Flames, darkness, something watching him hungrily. A voice with the weight of massive slabs of stone slamming together screams "REBORN." And he is jolted awake, covered in sweat and shivering.

Notes: I have general plans for how his magic evolves. What he has now is simple, but serves a purpose. He's afraid of the dark, he dislikes attention, and he has dreams of being surrounded by fire...

This is a character I've been working on for months but I've never used him before. He has two versions of a backstory, one where he's an orphan and one where he's not. This time he has a family. He was originally 13, but you said 16-18, so I'm only pushing it a little. You didn't specify race, so I'm guessing fantasy types are acceptable. Let me know of any improvements I can make.

This sounds really fun! I'll give my CS a shot. I hope alchemy and herbology are acceptable fields.

Caste: Bright
Name: Odilia Holt
Gender: Female
Age: 17

Appearance: Odilia cares little for her appearance, and would often go through days without touching a comb to her hair. Her chestnut waves maintain an inch of distance from the height of her narrow shoulders. She is diminutive and delicate in stature, having almost never experienced a minute of strenuous physical exercise in her entire life (with no desire to change anytime soon). Hazel eyes hide behind large, oval spectacles that often threaten to slip off the bridge of her nose.

Personality: "If the best is what you want to be, then the best you must be." Odilia accepts nothing short of perfection in her work – After all, should something go awry in the creation of potions and poultices, the end-product may have undesired, if not fatal, results. Having spent most of her life behind tomes and among alchemical flora, many would call Odilia's conversations with her plants eccentric. Although, on the other hand, perhaps equally as many would call her perfectionist temperament arrogant. As her personality limits her circle of friends, Odilia cherishes what few close ones she has dearly, and is incredibly generous and giving to these few people. Odilia desires stability and certainty, and there is nothing more consistent than the science and magic of alchemy and herbology – But there is nothing more unmethodical and unpredictable than other fellow humans.

Spellbook:
1. Purifica - Not all herbs are ready-to-use! For example, in creating the perfect protection poultice, the purest anise, rose, and rosemary extracts need to be used. Purifica is a spell that extracts these essence from the herbs. Well-practiced users of this spell can extract more, purer concentrate from the vegetation of choice. This spell is especially important in concocting the high-shelf health potions, as the purest extracts are often the most expensive.
2. Metatre - The bread-and-butter spell of alchemy. This spell transforms an object into another object given that its mass does not change (Additional magic and ingredients can allow one to break away from this rule!). The better control one has over this spell, the more accurate the transformation becomes.
3. Frigida Fraguntur - Flash freeze. The better the mastery, the snappier the drop in temperature. Vital in preservation of ingredients and specimina.
4. Anatypxi - Encourages the synthetic, but magically-driven, growth of any living creature. Often used on plants, certain fruits are only beneficial when given a touch of magic. Generally, the more sought-after poultices or potions require the use of this spell on at least one of its ingredients. This spell is generally discouraged to be used on animals, especially due to the gradual and almost precise stages of growth that most animals undergo before maturation.

Inventory: To supplement her lacking offensive capabilities, she carries a wand, as they are space-saving for her satchel that contains the chaotic mess of tiny sacks of herbs, various seemingly unrelated objects she picks up from the ground (leaves, bottle caps, scratched-off coin...), a small journal and a half-closed coinpurse.
Clothing: Odilia's clothing allow the freedom of movement for when she scavenges the wilderness for ingredients. She wears light, as she lacks the strength and endurance to carry armor. She rests the strap of her old satchel over her left shoulder and the weight upon her right hip. She favors pastel colors.
Other: Odilia strives to become the greatest, if not well-known, alchemist and herbalist in Mythria. She sets out to prove alchemical legends (such as turning lead into gold, Panacea, and Ambrosia) are, in fact, real. Odilia's mentor is just as, if not more, reclusive. An experienced but cynical herbalist who prefers to live in deep forests (for their richness in faunal and floral components), Odilia consequently received mediocre examples of proper social etiquette.

Human Female

16 years old

Appearance: Trabyn prefers to wear black cloaks with hoods to conceal her features. She has black hair, blue eyes, and a black spiral tattoo on her right cheek. Other various tattoos decorate her back.

Personality: Trabyn is not the friendliest person in the world, and her habit of spending time alone doing research doesn't help. However, if someone can breach her cold exterior, they'll find a person who is willing to lend a hand when things get tough.

Magic: There's a damn good reason the Severed steer well clear of Trabyn, and it has nothing to do with her personality. Blood magic, shadow magic, plague magic, necromancy; doesn't matter, she's into all the dark stuff.

Spells:

Offering to the Night: Trabyn slices open a cut on her palm, and uses the blood shed to turn the darkness around her into a physical object. This is her main offensive spell.

Phobos: Trabyn can delve into the mind of her target, and cause hallucinations of their deepest fear.

Condemned Memories: Upon touching a corpse, Trabyn can search through the memories of the experiences that the person or animal had while alive.

Gift of Infection: This spell infects the victim with any one of a number of minor diseases. She has to be looking directly at her target, however.

Inventory: Trabyn carries a mahogany wand to enhance her magic, and has a coinpurse with several silver coins currently in it. Otherwise, she doesn't have much in the way of personal possessions.

Other: The Hurrants are known somewhat distastefully for a long line of spies, saboteurs, and assassins in the service of Osia, and Trabyn decided at an early age to follow in the family trade. She reasons that someone has to handle the dirty business, so it might as well be a person who doesn't find it objectionable.

Name: Kelden Orlio

Gender: Male

Age: 17

Appearance: Kelden is average sized with a fit, though not built, frame. He has fair skin, hazel eyes, and short blond hair. His facial features are smooth and gentle, though his calloused hands reveal that he is no stranger to hard work.

Personality: In a few words, kind and altruistic. Kelden will gladly go out of his way to help others and he can get along with virtually anybody so long as they aren't actively inflicting harm on others. He is an easy person to talk to, though sometimes he can come off as a bit preachy. If he sees somebody doing something wrong, he will confront them about it, even if it has nothing to do with him.

Spellbook:
1.) Repair Tissue - Kelden can repair physical damage to any body tissue so long as undamaged tissue still exists. This spell allows him to heal all manner of cuts, bruises, and burns, but complex organs such as an eye or the heart cannot be repaired so simply if they have sustained serious damage.
2.) Antivenin - With this spell, Kelden is able to identify and counteract any poison, pathogen, or venom that is known to him. If it is a substance that he doesn't know about, then he must study it before this spell can become effective.
3.) Nerve Stitching - With this spell, Kelden can manipulate the neural connections in a client that is suffering from severe pain or paralysis. He can create and destroy connections to achieve the client's desired result in the treatment. Theoretically, he could also use this spell offensively, but Kelden is against the notion on principle.
4.) Superior Form - Kelden places a special herb in his mouth and recites an incantation, and all of his physical abilities become heightened beyond that of a normal human. His senses become heightened, he gains beast-like swiftness and strength, and his mind is able to process information twice as fast as normal. The downside is that this form exponentially increases caloric consumption, so it cannot be used for long times or from a state of exhaustion. He is usually famished afterwards.

Inventory: A satchel of various herbal catalysts used for his healing spells. He also keeps a separate vial containing the herb for his superior form spell. He generally only has one of these at a time as they are pretty rare. As a healer, work isn't exactly hard to find, so his coin purse generally has enough money in it to keep him comfortable. Aside from that, he likes to travel light.

Clothing: Kelden wears a fitted white hood-less robe with a few dark-red patterns woven in. He wears dark trousers, and has a couple of pairs of comfortable shoes that he likes to switch between.

Other: As a healer, Kelden has taken an oath never to kill any sentient beings. He will also help anyone in need regardless of allegiance or creed. Conversely, in addition to his magic training he learned various non-lethal martial art techniques under his mentor. His knowledge of anatomy gained during his studies has given him a pretty good idea of the universal weak points among all men.

My apologies for my lack of response to you all! Let me start at the top.

Dud, you're character is acceptable. I did not mention any race restrictions so my only requirement is that he was born in a land aside from Mythria, whose denizens are primarily human. He adds a lot of character to the party!

For Paladin, I went with my impression that since magic and powers-close-to-gods are more prevalent, religion is much more diminished. It doesn't necessarily have to be that way, though.

RBYDark, Greenhorn, Daird, ruronihs, All accepted! Your characters are a fun mix together. a little eerie, but in a good way!

Name: Drahcir Onamor (Drake for short)
Gender: Male human
Age: 18
Appearance: [Hider]
Weight: 185lbs
Height: 5' 11"
Eyes: Green/hazel
Hair: dark chestnut, short sloppy cut
Build: lean and athletic. Not much fat on his body but not overly muscle either.

Drake always seems to have a stern look on his face, deep in thought and almost intimidating. His look decieves his eyes in which seem to be filled with compassion and unwaiver in depth. He holds himself like royalty and one can almost feel the immense weight he burderns on his shoulders.

Personality: At first one would look at Drake and deem him an arrogant, stubborn headed jerk with something to prove.... they are mostly right, but deep down he is loyal to those who befriend him and would lay down his life for others like his family did for decades. He sucks at lying and would rather be bluntly truthfull than to lie and decieve. Some see this as honorable, others deem this as him being a complete jerk.

Spellbook:
1. Blink- Temporarily alters his speed and reflexes allowing him to be more gracefull and agile in trade for strength. Lasts ten minutes.
2. Enguard- pulls a crude blade from a nearby source of earth or metal. The type of element and its abundance determines the kind of blade and its durability. Ranges from small dagger to full on claymore. The latter takes more time to build.
3. Burden- the clothes on his body become dense and sturdy. They become rigid and harder to move in but grant him better protection. (He cannot cast and Blink and Burden together yet)
4. Illuminati- A bright flash of light emits from the blade he bares. Blinding those around him and dispels other minor magic spells including his own. (Friendly fire capable)

Inventory: To supplement his often straightforward and reckless nature, he carries plenty of bandages and ointments along with a rather large satchel always filled with some sort of food. Drake has been known to eat his weight in food daily. He blames his arkwardly high metabolism. He also holds a tiny silver pendant with a large emerald in the center belonging to his father. The words "Bearing the burden of compassion and will overcomes all." Encircles the gem. Despite his flashy clothing and regal look, he almost never has money on him.

Clothing: A rather long white open front robe adorned with silver decor and gold/green accents. Underneath he hides a shirt of thin chainmail and a silver gauntlet pulled off his fathers old armor that is just slightly too big for his hand. His pants and boots are reinforced leather with tiny worn silver rivets scattered everywhere.

Other: Drake is rather straightforward. He's not the strongest, nor the smartest by far. He does have one thing that is undeniable and that is his will. Only rivaled by his stubborness and not-so-level headed nature. Letting his emotion guide his blade in battle.

Yay! I'm excited to see that this RP is alive and kicking. Also I reread the info post and realized I gotta include mentor and background. I'll edit my post after some deliberation. If anyone else missed it, add those in!

Yay I hope my cs is to your liking :) gonna fix a few typos and get on reading up on the others. A little scared on the "Good luck" comment tho... lol
