Sep. This could be a nice opportunity to make the relics of Thora and Kheris similar in function (but not identical). Sort of like how two inventors independently make a thingamajig to do the same thing, but have opposite approaches to the task.

We're thinking that our darkness-weaving NPC will still exist, but not necessarily survive the taking of Amaryth. His power, while intangible, is still very useful. That in itself is a reason it shouldn't be too readily available.

Sorry, guys, but I will be temporarily backing out of this RP.

Needless to say, I haven't contributed much, anyway, and I have made dedications to one too many other RPs. I'm afraid I can't keep up with this for the time being. Who knows, if my current RPs die, I might have time to contribute to the Relics! Anyways, I've left off at a convenient IC location for Bor and his buddies.

BingTheWing's status: temporarily inactive.

Until next time, comrades!

I haven't decided if I want to be involved in a reboot but I figured I'd throw in something on the Relics. Use it, adapt it, just use a piece of it or nothing at all. I just figured it could be useful in spinning out some ideas.

In my own world one of the "origins" available to characters is access to "Relics". In this world they are referred to as "Legacies" mainly because the relics themselves become legendary. One who carried the venom gauntlet of Kore would no longer by Marek of Alboss. They would likely be forever know as the new wielder of the Venom Gauntlet whatever that gauntlet was called. Some are passed down through family lines even becoming part of a house's coat-of-arms, some of them have gone missing for generations only to pop up once more while some of them seem to always find their way into the hands of peasant heroes or malignant villains. There were even a subset of heraldic tradition that studied the Legacies, how and where they popped up, what they were capable of and who they were bound to.

Generally, in my world all things possessed an "Animus", or spirit that is separate from a soul. A rock's animus was quite simple. A dog, for example, would have an animus but not a soul. This is also how undead shells possessed the knowledge of a person even after the soul of the corpse had gone on to the afterlife. A Legacy was an object that possessed a particularly powerful animus that brought it to a new level of being beyond regular objects of their type.

One way in which a legacy could be created was by the power of raw belief. In the same manner as when you hand two identical objects to a person and expound upon how light in mass one was compared to the other he would come to believe it. Only in this case, because the person believed it, it would become a bit lighter. Get enough people to believe in it and the object could become greatly reduced in apparent weight. For example, the first such blades in ancient times were said to possess the spirit of your ancestor and became something sacred and doted upon. That sword, over the many years, would become more powerful based on the beliefs of the family. Such blades would become lighter, swifter, sharper and more resistant to damage over time and could very well grant the wielder with skills that belonged to the legend of the original ancestor.

Raw devotion and masterful expertise could work as well, as great expertise is often earned through sacrifice. A great smith with access to rare materials could use his devotion to craft a truly masterwork object. Further, wizards and priests could well artificially increase the power of an animus or imbue it with a shard of elemental energy culled from other planes or whatnot.

The animus bit could work, and would be able to explain the evolution of a relic users powers depending on how they use it.

The legacy part, especially one about the beliefs, could apply to Wilson's character and would solve his relic problem.

We'll get input no doubt, but players all inventing things was what kinda ruined this one (I take partial blame for that :P). I'm sure they just want to have a strong base before we get to tear it to shreds.

We can give ya something to peek at. We'll be updating those images slowly. We'd update them more often, but the upload rate here is horrible, so we're not uploading that much. We've added a couple of nation borders after the current version, but uploading a 10-20mb file on a 0.1mbit line isn't fun.

Are we still working on the Relics' origins and method of choosing its users? A lot of proposals went up for that one. What are we going to use from all the contributions regarding that topic?

My prefereance is that Relics origins and methods of choosing remain largely a mystery.

This allows us to retain a broad range of character options and retains a sense of mystery with the titular objects that would be lost by quantifying them overmuch.

Hey, Ellri, perhaps you could also include my posts when you read everything?

I said that I have a nation lore thingy that has land that the Kalesian empire has, down in the Southern area, where the valley that is enclosed by mountains is, and includes the mountains. Could you PM me or vice versa so we can talk about it?

Sorry Wilson. Ignoring you was not intentional. We just haven't been able to keep track of everything. You don't have to ask to PM us if you have something you want to mention/discuss/whatever.

We're waiting on Alida to get back from wherever. And a little for barks to throw stuff into the plans. (preferably wrenches). We don't want to design everything for this RP. Part of the charm here is the fact that elements have so many architects.

We added nation shapes too all the landmass now. We can potentially change that section you wanted if you PM us the concept you had, Wilson. If it fits into everything else, we'll add it in. We could also suggest a few other places to put it. There are a few spots at least as hard-to-get-to as that one. Including a few that aren't half a continent away from Othea, where everything will be focused initially.
