All this talk of parenting has me thinking.

Ash's sister was killed in battle in her third year. I feel like it's unlikely her parents will be all "Oh? It's your third year at the academy? Yeah, we cool, go have fun!"

So there's likely a bit of tension between Ash and her parents this year. Hell, even she's probably unsure about doing the third year.

I always wondered about how leaving went in the Academy, I figured the process and the training to be very expensive stuff so that they'd actually be unwilling to let you go without a serious reason being behind it.

Training half human supersoldiers can't be cheap after all.

Presumably she's at least 18, so they couldn't exactly do a whole lot.

True. But my character was still on good terms with her parents. I imagine she'd kind of like to keep that relationship intact, and returning to the Academy probably wouldn't exactly be great for that. Aside from pressuring her not to, no, they wouldn't actually be able to stop her. But they could definitely try.

Unless of course, like Eldritch mentioned, there's something that says students are obligated to complete the three years. There's probably some sort of liability issues with just creating human/mythic hybrids and letting them loose on society. XD

And I would imagine so.

pretty much... :p They're not likely to just let you go. As it is, you are bound by contract to stay, more or less. Not only is it expensive, but they aren't going to just let someone as powerful as your characters run around on your own :p It's quite a danger, plus the Mythics are going to be pretty miffed about giving some of their being only to have the person run off :P

It's a bit sad, really. Once a Shifter, always a Shifter. As far as the humans & shifters know, you'll be bound to the Academy for as long as you live.

So what about the unmanagable ones? do they lock them up somewhere like a high security prison and keep them isolation from the public?

They have a dragon twice the size of a villa. I think he has enough intimidation factor to make them go "Alright... I'll listen. Please don't eat me!" xD
But seriously, it's a millitary facility, so every one is trained to become a soldier. There aren't very many unmanageble ones because they are broken and then built back up. Just like any soldier.

Unless that person can convince the dragon that they are a bagel.

I jest, but I figure they must have some form of retirement plan for Shifters, even the best soldiers can break under the strain of war, and most Shifters have enough power that they are capable of killing on a mass scale, sort of like how the Finnish machine-gunners frequently got PTSD after a couple of hours simply because they were killing so many Russians in the Winter War.

I don't have anything planned for a retirement plan, but when you mentioned it I had an idea: If/When the war is over, they can be sent to a sort of camp in the wilderness where some Mythics live away from society. Sort of like Camp Half-Blood in Percy Jackson, but much calmer and not a place where you're trained. Just a place where you can live among equals. Or, well, superiors if you're just a Shifter.

So quiet little communities out in the wilderness then, sounds nice.

I am going to have so much fun with applying my powers, illusions and reality warping is such a versatile power for literary depiction.

If he so much as thinks about making a mouse illusion and have it run around Tsukiko (Lily's girlfriend), he'll have a very angry girl with two pairs of very sharp canines at his throat xD

At which point she'd go "Please. I'm regularly exposed to illusions. They're so obvious they're not even close to convincing."

At which point Sindri would make them semi-corporeal, as is his want. :p
