There is literally nothing special about the 5th of November.

Last night I found out one of my housemates thought V for Vendetta was a documentary about Guy Fawkes. Also toasted marshmallows.

Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the parliament in Britain.

Basically, "Remember remember the 5th of November, the gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot."

Well, actually, Guy Fawkes is burned on the bonfire, which sort of suggests it's more of a celebration of the plots failure. If there even was one.
