Mythic

Please hold your submissions until November 15th

The theme for this challenge will be the Mythic. Create a piece that explores what it means to you to blur the line between the day-to-day and the truly remarkable. Whether you portray a hero entering the dragon's den or perhaps something less traditional, give us a gander into that awe-some world. Having trouble? Think of legends, fables, folk-lore, or even branch out to stories out of popular titles like Mass Effect or Doctor Who. Feel free to explore that place between the reality and the extraordinary! Beyond all else, have fun.

As always, please abide by the following:

Submit the image at a reasonable size, large enough to see but not so large it breaks the page. Under your image, tell us the name of the piece if you've chosen to name it, tell us what medium it is and maybe tell us about what the piece means to you or why you created it the way you did.

Below are images for your inspiring pleasure:

13 Days!

Having trouble with inspiration? Try sketching some ideas from your favourite Sci-Fi and/or Fantasy to get the creative juices flowing. Good luck!

I finally figured out what I'm going to do for this.

Plans A, B, and C didn't go so well. >_>'

Here's hoping that my execution of the piece is as good as the concept sounds in my head.

9 Days

If you're like me, you've thrown away a few sketches and virtually thrown away a few more. My favourite part of the process seems to be messing up and trashing my little embarrassments -- I seem to do it quite often. They're learning experiences though, so don't beat yourself up, and I'll try to do the same.

FYI: I'll be on a business trip to Vegas between the 11th-14th. Should be able to call this, but expect it for the official flag wave in mid day on the 15th.

I'm glad you extended the date since I'm going to be on a plane this Friday and probably won't be able to upload it until Saturday anyway. I finished it yesterday and am quite proud of myself.

Oh yay, another one of these =D I know I kind of disappeared after the last time around, but I'm glad I checked back in time to see this. And thanks Capn Crunch and Rax for your comments on the last thread.

I'm currently somewhat (very?) behind on uni work, so I likely won't be doing a new picture from scratch... However I have an older drawing lying around that I'm going to just colour and motivate myself to finish... I hope that's not against the rules.

I guess I'm first! =) It's a pretty basic drawing in my normal style; as I said it's been lying around in my drawer and all I did was scan and colour it... but I feel like I've managed to get the image I was going for in my head. The girl is actually one of my rp-ing characters here on this site - your typical psychokinetic high-school girl with an Irish blackdog living in her shadow. So yeah... the image is more literal than anything, not really a metaphor for the 'beast within' or anything like that.

I wanted to draw a vampire. But after being done with the guy the setting didn't turn out the way I wanted. So I stopped, erased what I had and just left the background empty .__. But I wanted it to look like a flashback scence, that's why there's this... black circle ish frame or whatever. And that winged ball thingy thing popped up in my mind when I was reading some Yuu Gi Ou fan fiction :P (I wonder why xD)
Since my scanner doesn't work right now I had to take a picture of this with my phone. So the quality is not that great.

Sorry about not opening this myself, I only just got back into town yesterday evening after a few delays.

Wonderful work everyone! I'm loving the various mediums you all chose to express your takes on the theme. Now that we're here, I guess the only question left is who's next?

Your colours are really nice on those link-through pictures, Insanity. Like super vibrant and lovely, especially the motifs of the skulls and peacock feathers. *-* What materials were they might I ask? (Pastels maybe?)

Oh thank you! It takes me hours to get those done, and with school I had no time to really work on something like that, they were the size of a bristol board. I use oil pastel, it is my favorite medium. Though I have to say I'm a little rusty since school is crazy. I have to say your work is amazing too.

Also has anyone deemed interested in running the next one? If not would anyone want to co-run one with me?
