Well Caste systems are all the rage in east africa, and phalanx style militaries were a big thing in the north after hellenistic unification. Those are my only valid comparisons.

Caste systems were all the rage everywhere and doesn't mean anything. And North Africa was largely dominated by the Greeks prior to Arab expansion, and the Greeks were just as foreign an invader to North Africa as the Arabs were.

I'd really like to see an efforted try at something other than Western Europe, I'm allied with ASTA that much. Don't let the Afarid Satyr be the only black-skins here.

That's fine Peace Keeper; and it may be for the best. The whole thing with Sara's ship should probably be resolved IC before the party starts, one way or another. She is, after all, one of the potential guests.

And as for Lunamaria's nation, it seems to me like it's a bit too vague to say that it's 'European-esque' or 'African-esque' at present. Though I have to agree that saying that all your elves are fit and thin is a bit out there. Even if most aren't, there's always going to be outliers.

Ok. I have done three things, Mr. Co-GM! :
1. I changed my country's name from Menes to Manas because there was some problem with Menes sounding too close to Memes.
2. I changed my country flag so it doesn't rip off imperial japan.
3. I deleted the part about "nobody in my nation is fat". There are now fat people in my nation.

To address your fourth concern, which is that my nation's culture lacks enough african traits, I would happily change my nation's culture so it does have african traits. However, I am not knowledgeable of what African-traits are. So if you could, could you list some things I could add into my nation's culture so it looks more african?

The easiest thing to do would be to simply find somewhere else to be. Because trying to explain Africa is like trying to explain the color of a rainbow. You have many millions of cultures, many of which had significant civilizations of their own, and a few of which may have been comparable to European Civilization. You have vodun in the west (worship of many different spirits), oriental Christianity/Tewodros Church in the west alongside Islam, and a number of diverse tribal faiths.

And then influences all over, or self-developed artistic styles. From the Arabic or Byzantine styles in Nubia and in Axum. Asiatic style in Madagascar. On an on.

The easiest may be to rip into western stereotype and succumb to primitive tribal sorts living nomadic in a region that may or may not include a matriarchy either in politics or in religion (in the case of vodun). Or a fetish for bright colors which is a definitive thing in east-Africa. But even then, you got such a high diversity of cultures and lingual groups that live in such small areas you can't really ever explain the "culture" of a region.

Africa pre-19th century isn't as homogeneous as Europe or Asia was.

I agree. If you think it's too difficult to accurately create an country with an african culture without knowing a lot of about its diversity, then I agree. I will simply move my nation a bit more east, away from your country and its surrounding "african" regions.

So I have moved my country a bit more east. Will this suffice, Mr. Co-Gm??

Position on Map -

The only problem I foresee now is that I don't have much of a border with the ocean. So is the guy who is in control of Fristreek (Mr. CorinTraven) be willing to let me have a fleet presence in the ocean/bay to his east? If not, will the guy who is control of Hanartha (SoveriegnGrave) be willing to allow me to have a coastal fleet in the middle of his country?

Yes, we could use some more inland states anyways.

But I think one of them wanted to expand south. I can't remember which. But based on the posts it's an ongoing process started independently by some peasant groups.

Great! Then we can have a war! If someone like Hanartha is expanding south that is...

I know for sure that Marmon is expanding westward, which is why I gave some room for him.

Frisstreek wants to expand south and Marmon wants to expand west, so I can definitely see you getting involved in conflict there. And as for you having a port and a fleet on that bit you control between Hanartha's two peninsulas, I can't really stop you. And the Hanarth wouldn't have an issue with you having a fleet there, but they'd still view the bay as Hanarth territory regardless.

yay! thank you, SovereignGrave, for letting me have fleet in between your two Hanarthian peninsulas!

However, I fail to see how I would have a war with Frisstreek if they're expanding southward. I have no land south of Frisstreek.

I do have land west of Marmon, so I guess there's a potential war possibility there.

Edit: But with Marmon in the state that he is, I don't really want to war him as he's sorta defenseless.

I think that Frisstreek just kinda wants to expand outwards. It's just happening to be a couple of peasants going southwards at the moment. But you should probably talk to CorinTraven for the details; it's her nation after all. She knows more about it than anyone.

Oh, and it's a minor quibble but the proper adjective is just "hanarth".

This is all great and all, but someone get a post up so I can murder more people. :)

@Lunamaria: You could always move down south, Adjutor Insula is a Europeanesque Crusader State, and Karkarth, from what I could gather, is some kind of Mordor inhabited by dragon-humanoids.

The cultures of the south are diverse, owing to the Pagan War from yesteryear that I never really elaborated on because I didn't want to mess with anyone's plans. However, it would stand to reason that things would be a dandy blend of European, Slavic and even African cultures, due to the post-Crusade nature of things. You know, if I stick with my Pagan War set up, I imagine that following the successful crusade some centuries earlier, then several states akin to Adjutor rose and fell, giving everything a nice smattering of colours.

Ok, first things first, Manas. Very good, though I'd like to see a bit more in culture as you progress further. Just a minor gripe, and it won't stop you being accepted. Here's an official seal of approval:

Secondly, don't worry PK, we've all got lives beyond RPG.

Thirdy, war. War never changes. And if Manas' getting involved, so will Torin. Protecting our interests and all.

Is Marmon going to war with someone? I thought Marmon was expanding west to gather new territory. That's why I put a lot of buffer between me (the nation of Manas) and the Kingdom of Marmon, so that way Marmon could expand to the west without going into conflict with me (Manas).

Maybe I can get the GMs to approve me having two nations. A north Manas and a south Manas. The north manas can be exactly where it is right now -- east of Fristreek and south of Hanartha, but the south Manas can be directly east of Adjutor Insula... on the big antarctica continent.

FEIGLING you said Marmon when you meant her nation. :p

Also concerning the westward expansion, it isn't under very civil control but rather under the supervision of The Bull, a criminal lord. As a criminal lord, he can easily cause massive issues without fear of true retalliatiom, because a criminal orginization has no true borders. For example, say he pillages one of your villages for a little something, wouldn't make sense to counter attack and say seige Mallkim, a seperate entity (not saying you couldn't however). This could get interesting.

If there is to be any conflict though, at least with me, I'd want both sides to provide a map of their country so it has accurately placed movements. Basically is stops either one of use from going "cant do that!" Or "bam now I'm here" or even "where the fuck is Prokleti?" This way we know where everything is and what major area to attack first.
