Hyrule Rising

Welcome to Hyrule. 500 years after the Twilight Wars, the Kingdom of Hyrule has established itself as the dominant power of the land. It is with this in mind that the King of Hyrule has renamed himself Emperor of Hyrule, and has set out to unify the world under a single banner, the gold crested banner of the Hylian Royal Family. The people of the world watch warily, as the Imperial Army of Hyrule continues to grow in size and strength. The Hyrulian expansionism has set off a series of events that will change the world forever. Word spreads, that a rebellion is brewing in the heartlands of Hyrule, and it is only a matter of time before it reaches its boiling point. It is during tumultuous times like these that the Goddesses call upon young heroes to take up the Power of the Triforce.

Young Hero, will you take up the sword and shield?
Will you bring to light the darkness that threatens to engulf the world?
Will you embark on the journey of a lifetime?

Plot:

Hello and welcome to a Legend of Zelda themed RP! Normally, I like to avoid fandoms and the like, but ever since I was introduced to this idea a few years or so back, I fell in love with it. This RP will be taking place in an alternate reality of the Legend of Zelda universe, a few centuries after the events of the Twilight Princess. In this dystopian alternate reality, the Kingdom of Hyrule has gained dominance and control over much of the known world. The Zoras have retreated into the depths of their ocean and river domains, while the Gorons have been forced to swear fealty and allegiance to the Hylian Emperor. The Kokiri race has been rendered almost extinct, with remaining members persecuted by the Hylian government. The illusive Dekus' only presence in Hyrule is as traders, and the Gerudo have hidden themselves in the Great Desert. Hyrule has also banned the worship of the Three Golden Goddesses, commanding that the world worship the Church of the Goddess Hylia instead.

It is important to note that this alternate world is not perfectly cannon or in line with the original Legend of Zelda timeline. While the main location we will be using will be Hyrule and its immediate surroundings. I've decided to add other regions and add the other races to the original world, for example, Termina from the Majora's mask is now linked to Hyrule through the lost woods, and Termina's great bay links to the regions from the Wind Waker. The Twilight Realm, is not a mirror world of Hyrule, but is in fact its own separate landscape, linked to Hyrule through a portal mirrors in the Gerudo Desert and Lake Hylia. If there's any other locations that I have not included, but you would like to add, feel free to find a space to fit them into.

In this RP, our characters will play as youths and young adults from the castle town of Hyrule. The RP itself will revolve around visiting and exploring iconic Legend of Zelda locations, with a dystopian twist of course. Over the course of this RP our characters will also be gifted with the powers of the Triforce, as they are thrown into the Hyrulian warpath. Our heroes will face Drama, as well as Generic Plot Twists, Unconventional Plot Twists and Action, as they struggle to maintain their own identities in a huge clash of ideals and beliefs, as well as struggle to decide the ultimate fate of Hyrule!

But Myke! What about the Triforce? This is Legend of Zelda! There has to be the Triforce, and we can't all have it can we?! Well, through a series of semi-convenient events, we can all have the Triforce!

Some hundred years prior to the start of the RP, the Triforce has been shattered into hundreds of fragmented shards. Some lay buried in the ground, others in dungeons. But several have been embedded into individuals, and have granted them their power. Those gifted with shards of the Triforce of Power, are stronger than their compatriots, with stamina and strength greater than that of those around them. They are able to pick up and wield foreign weapons with little difficulty. Those gifted with shards of the Triforce of Wisdom, are smarter than their compatriots, the sole wielders of Light magic, and capable of wielding greater magics and healing wounds without having to train for years. They are also prone to visions and may receive helpful information from the spirits from time to time. Those gifted with the Triforce of Courage posses a greater mental fortitude than their companions. Faster of foot as well as mind, wielders of the shards of courage are supposedly able to counter the strength of power shards, and magic of wisdom shards. They may also experience bouts of extreme luck, and occasionally have good things happen to them.

In this alternative world, it may be important to note that the Hyrulian Empire will likely not be a 'good' side, and may often play as the antagonist for much of our adventure. Since most of the plot will be based on the characters, this may or may not change.

Rules

1. This Roleplay will have above average standards, I will be expecting at least a few, well written paragraphs, and absolutely NO ONE LINERS.
2. I expect you to be civil and friendly on the OOC. Any arguments will be solved in private, or brought to my attention.
3. No Mary/Gary Sues. Your characters are not perfect.
4. No God-Moding. Your characters are important, but I will not hesitate to injure them if they do something exceedingly stupid. Note, as GM, I reserve the right to God-mod however I like, for the purposes of advancing the plot, or steering it in a specific direction.
5. This RP is rated M. Violence, and foul language is freely allowed, though for the sake of decency, any sexually graphic acts will fade to black (or will be taken to PM) before it goes too far.
6. Player knowledge is not character knowledge. Just because you know something (be it through OOC or another person's post, does not mean that your character knows.
7. As GM, my word is law. This does not mean I will be unreasonable, nor will it mean I will be unfair, but I will expect you to respect my executive decisions.

Regarding Characters
IMPORTANT: I will only be accepting up to 3-4 characters (not including my own). As such, this RP will not be a first come, first served.
Not everyone's character has to be a Hylian, in fact, I would like characters of different races. Most races will be available for play, hell, you could even be a fairy. Keep in mind your particular race's weaknesses as well, ie Zoras and Rito are relatively frail, though they have the capacity to swim and fly respectively; Gorons are big and strong, but heavy and cant swim, etc. These weaknesses will not have too strong of an adverse effect on your character, but will prevent them from being 'perfect'.

It is also important to note that most NPC(and likely PC) Hylians in this universe will be racist, believing themselves superior to most other races, their pride and zealotry being cause for much of the tension between races.

Most characters will also be expected to be novices, relatively inexperienced, or 'low level' in skill. You can be a capable fighter or archer or what have you, but your character cannot be a master at arms. Alternatively I will allow one or two characters to play an older, more experienced and skilled character, provided that they are adequately balanced, for example, A famously skilled swordsman, who is now old, and no longer the fighter he once was.
---

Available Races

The Races of the world are various, and have their own strengths and skills. The following are the currently selectable races. If your race of choice is not on this list, let me know and we'll see if we can work something out.

Character Creation:

Sure, its not the sword that makes the man, but having a big fucking sword never hurt. This RP will not play out on a tabletop style system, and treasure and gear will be bountiful in this RP. Every character will have a starting net worth of rupees depending on their social class, with these rupees, you can mix and match your starting equipment. If for some reason, your character does not have enough rupees to pick out everything you want, and provided the things you want are for story reasons, feel free to talk to me and we can easily hash out the details.

Character Sheet

Appearance: Your character's appearance. I prefer art images as opposed to real life pictures
Name: Your character's first and last name. You can add nicknames here as well.
Age: The age of your character, the age range I'm expecting for most characters is 16-22
Social Class: Your character’s social class. I am still debating how important/necessary this is, for now it'll just determine your starting package.
Race: The race of your character, this can be your choice, Hylian, Zora, Rito, Deku, you could even be a Darknut if you wanted.

Personality: One of the more important parts of your CS, give me a good taste of what your character is like.

Backstory: Important, but not as important as your character's personality, give me a small summary of your character's history and bio.
Triforce Apparent:Which piece of the Triforce you will be given, Power, Wisdom, or Courage. This should reflect your character's personality and abilities. The powers of these pieces will grow as RP Progresses. Note that we will not start with pieces of Triforce

Skills and Abilities: Here is where you put things your character can do/are good at, as well as what magic abilities they have (if any). Elemental magic can be learned, but different species typically favor different elements (except Hylians), for example, Zoras typically use water magic. Wielders of Wisdom shards are able to use 'Light' magic, as well as healing magic. Magic is also rather difficult to learn, taking several years to master basic abilities, regardless of race.

Equipment: Here is where you'll give me a list of your character's equipment. Weapons, armors, tools, and their qualities go here.

Appearance:
Name: Tondil Rasta
Age: 19
Social Class: Artisan
Race: Darknut

Personality: Tondil is a lover of finely crafted steel and a good fight. He judges on character rather than race, though he does think that most Hylians could use an attitude check. He is grateful with what he has and is content living in the city. He is a Darknut of faith, often praying to Hylia in times of hardship and thanking her in times of peace. Though he is regularly harassed by Hylians, especially near guards, he tries to make the best of what he has. Though he does dream sometimes, of going on adventures and being regarded as a hero rather than a monster. Though he tries to reserve judgement on people, he detests most Hylian children, especially those that are spoiled. They think they are untouchable, invincible, when in reality, he could crush their skull like a grape. He prays to Hylia when these thoughts cross his mind, and though he does his best to ignore them, he cannot prevent them. His mind often travels to the stories of his ancestors, those who guarded ancient temples against scum of all kind. He longs to have such a noble purpose.

Backstory: Tondil was born in Death Valley in his father's Armor and Weapons shop. They lived a fairly solitary life, the nearest village being a mile or so. Most of their customers were either crazy, stupid, or brave. Or possibly so stupidly brave that they were crazy. However, individuals like that were few and far between, so they got most of their business from the nearby village, traded food for weapons and armor to protect themselves from the various creatures of Death Valley. Tondil learned to work the forge from a very early age and proved quite good at it. His father also trained him in swordsmanship in case of emergencies. Tondil relished the visits, grasping little peepholes of the world from listening to stories or news. The stories he liked most though, were the stories of his ancestors. Those who guarded ancient temples that held unknowable power, those who dedicated their lives to keep scum out. Those were the heroes he fantasized about. As his father got older, Tondil took on more responsibilities, in smithing and fighting alike. He became skilled with a hammer and adept with the sword. The few visits they got from travelers, he handled, while his father worked with the numbers, now too old and weak to do any physical work. The village guards stopped coming for gear and soon it was up to Tondil to go hunting for food. It was an unpleasant experience to say in the least, but he was able to round up enough meat to keep him and his father fed. It got to the point where Tondil's father sent him to the village to work for food. It was about an hour walk and when Tondil got there, he found the place ransacked by the creatures of Death Valley. He killed them all and searched the town for survivors, but found none. He found some food in a storage shed and trekked home with a heavy heart.

When he arrived, he found another group of the creatures had broken in. And killed his frail father. He flew into a rage, killing everything before they ate his father's corpse. Racked with grief, he set his house and shop ablaze, wishing to destroy everything before the valley could. Lost for the first time in his life, Tondil followed his father's old map to Hyrule. He was amazed at how green the grass was and how blue the rivers were. How the castle towered over the land like one of the mountains of his former home. He had heard of Darknuts joining the army. Confident that they would need a smith as well as a warrior, Tondil entered Castle town with hopes of a new purpose. In all his lifem Tondil had never seen a place so lively. Music played in the streets, vendors shouted their wares at pedestrians, countless buildings held the promise of something new and amazing in each of them. He did not anticipate, however, the negativity. People would quickly look down as he passed, or shoot suspicious glares across the street. Guards would stare at him and his sword as if he were a criminal. He soon learned he needed rupees to sleep in a bed, a thing he only saw travelers carrying. However, he figured he would have to work to get them. He applied to jobs all around town, and he was denied constantly. If he raised his voice even an inch higher, they would call for the guards. So he spent his first week hungry and uncomfortable, waiting for the recruitment offices to open. He found some work here and there, which was just enough to sustain him, at least long enough until the recruitment offices open. But it seemed that joining the army was not to be his fate and destiny had taken control.

Triforce Apparent: Power

Skills and Abilities: A skilled smith and talented fighter.

Equipment: Great sword. Beige trousers with black grimy boots. A plain white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, dirt and grime on it from the forge. A leather patch on his shoulder with a strap the goes around his torso to rest the Great sword when he is not using it. A tool belt with various smithing tools that can be used for repairing equipment.

Appearance:
Name: Aryeh
Age: 21
Social Class: Wandering Warrior
Race: Sheikah

Personality: Aryeh looks at life as something to be lived, even if his personality doesn't really resonate with that. He's been alone for quite some time, so he has internal conversations often, and to others he may seem stone cold, and blunt. But deep down, he's a very kind, warm hearted individual. Selfless at times, especially if there's someone he considers a friend in danger. Wandering from place to place, doing odd jobs, and mercenary work, has broadened his mind a lot these past 7 years. His faith in the Golden Goddesses is unwavering, but he isn't ignorant about the learning of other cultures. He has a natural ability to fight, though he is only average in most martial arts, it's his will to win, his courage that usually gets him through. He fears death, among other things, but he embraces death, just as one would life... a necessary step. Only just arriving in the city, he's almost outcasted immediately, as the Hylians are extremely arrogant, and single minded. He doesn't pass judgement upon them, only wishes for a warm bed, warm meal, and maybe a job or two, and he would be on his way.

Backstory: Born to a family of four, Aryeh was the youngest of his siblings. His family lived in a small, isolated village near Lake Hylia. His father taught him and his 2 older brothers the history of the Sheikah, and how they were to protect the royal family of Hyrule. But times have changed, in the past, the royal family was different, this had turned into a dictatorship. The Sheikah were hated among their Hylian counterparts, for their devotion to the three Golden Goddesses. His father told them of the various prophecies, and visions that were to one day come. Aryeh was a proud, wide eyed boy at learning of all of this. As the years went by, he simply trained with his brother and father, hoping these prophecies would come in his lifetime. He was taught the basics of martial arts, sword fighting, spear use, kunai throwing, and archery among other things. On his 13th birthday his father gave him a small jewel with the Sheikah eye on it. His father was to explain more to him the following night, but but a passing garrison of Hylian troops were coming. They were declaring that this small village needed to be used by the Empire, and that if they didn't comply, only death would be promised. His father, being the leader of the village, made sure that the villagers listened listened and moved out. But Ayrehs brothers would not stand for it, as this was their home. Against their fathers word, they fought back, but we're ultimately no match for the garrison. The commander ordered the execution of the village, and for it to be burned to the ground. His father turned to him, "Aryeh, run, and do not look back. Run until your legs can no longer move!" So she did so, running in a direction he didn't know. He ran until the cries and pleas of help were no longer heard. He ran and ran, until he could no longer move, until he fell, and passed out of exhaustion. When he awoke, he couldn't bring himself to go back. He surveyed his surroundings, and the things his father taught him about survival kicked in.

That night, forever skewed his views of the Sheikah, and why they should protect the royal family. While the belief and worship of the Golden Goddesses remained, he no longer believed in his people's way. The vile Hylian empire had become something to destroy, rather than protect. For the next year or so, he would travel the lands, joining pocket resistances as a young mercenary. When he turned 15, after after a battle with one of the resistances he was apart of, he found a wounded Hylian soldier on the outskirts of the battle. Drawing his blade, Aryeh was going to end it quickly, hatred in his heart, his eyes. The Hylian flinched upon noticing Aryeh approaching. Tears welled up in his eyes as the moonlight gleamed from Aryehs blade. Aryeh watched the man a moment longer, and noticed the man clutching a cloth. He kneeled next next to next to the soldier, and took the cloth from him. The man, clearly fearing for his life, tried to lash out at Aryeh for grabbing it, but with his injuries Aryeh easily pushed the man down. Inside the cloth, was a ring, and a crumpled up flower. "This means something to you?" Aryeh asked, examining the items. The Infantryman answered, in pain, "M-my wife, and child...a gift for going away." Aryeh stood now, looking at the items, remembering his own family. Moments ago, Aryeh would have murdered this man, without a second thought. His fathers words rang out in his mind, his teachings. Forgiveness. Let it go. Aryeh tossed the items near the man, and sat the guy up. He tore off his armor, his mail, and tossed his shield away. The soldier was now in a simple shirt, and trousers. "If you wish to live, you are now a traveling merchant who was robbed by bandits, understand?" Aryeh reached into a pouch, and handed the man medicine, and walked away. He learned that not all Hylians are inherently bad, only that they are raised that way. "Try to be better than the rest of your people." He said, as he went out of view of the soldier, who sat there, in awe that his life was his own still.

For the next six years, Aryeh wandered the lands, still training, the same regiment he would do with his father. Still taking on mercenary work. Still learning everything he could, from everyone he came across. His heart had somewhat softened, no longer the anger and hatred filled boy he was long ago. He still relishes in battle, but not the kill. He literally decided his destination day by day, and on this day, he decided "Castle Town it is."

Triforce Apparent: Courage.

Skills and Abilities: Through his years alone, he's become an avid observer, so one skill he picked up was empathy, he can read most like an open book. His fighting ability is average, though he is speedier than most, his will to win and survive is his greatest ability. Also, he is skilled in smithing, but only for repairs. He couldn't forge a weapon.

Equipment: Cloth Armor, nothing special. Grey in color, the over coat hangs to the ground, and is somewhat tattered. A brown belt at his waist, along with a black scabbard containing his longsword, which is sharpened to a Keen edged blade. Around his chest is a leather strap attached to his belt, that holds a small quill of arrows. Also around his chest is a short composite bow.

Yup, this was your RP. It came back to my mind a little while back, and I decided I really wanted to do it again. I made a couple edits here and there, but its roughly the same as you had it

Also, OP is updated with my own character for people who need references.
Character Reviews:

Musketman: Overall I like the character, but there are a few things I'd like to point out. The Darknut is the quintessential warrior race/caste. Even moreso than the Gerudo, the Darknuts are warriors, it is unlikely a Darknut will be anything other than a warrior. As for being in Hyrule, due to their size, strength, and natural martial prowess, Darknuts in Hyrule are closely monitored and are almost always part of the Hyrulian army, or lone wanderers. Darknuts in Death Valley on the other hand will live in villages composed solely of Darknuts or subservient minor races. If you really wanted your character to be a smith, it'd be more likely that he hailed from a Darknut village in Death Valley. Also, Darknuts are much, much larger than Hylians. Hylians are racist, but not stupid(mostly.) No sane Hylian would spit at a Darknut and expect to walk away in once piece.

MrDevious: Very nice character, all around very solid. The only thing worth picking at is some background lore stuff, which is more my fault for not mentioning it. Sheikah have been essentially ostracized by the Hylians, and have not served as protectors of the royal family in decades, and generally have a kill-on-sight order on them. Luckily, most people don't really know what Sheikah look like, as they are very similar in appearance to Hylians.

Thanks. I will edit some stuff now that I have a free moment.

Actually upon re reading it, I suppose it works. I wrote that his father knew the times have changed, and that Hyrule is a different place. But the prophecies are what Aryeh held onto until his elder years.

Mustketman, that looks much better, though looking through your inventory, you may have more stuff than your class defines as your worth. You cannot have lock opening set, smith tools, AND a great sword.. Though since your character is a warrior and smith, I will allow the tools and weapon.
