Holy hell about summed up what was running through Devin's head at that time. It had been far too long since he's seen another single human let alone "outsiders" although all things considered he was the outsider this case. Whoever these people are they were very different from his own, they dressed differently, carried themselves differently, used strange weapons, and even their speech was strange. After the odd men killed the remaining two beasts, in what Devin considered to be in a reckless manner as one of the ancestors lessons say Never fight up close, always maintain distance. all it takes is one swipe from a beast to kill a man, he heard one of them talk. At first it sounded like the Fin's tongue yet different some of the words Devin didn't know.
Olev said
"We kill him, no mercy. Let me to him first."

That was all Devin could make out, a combination of distance and simply not knowing the meaning of a few words made it difficult to understand of most of the sentence. It seemed they may be there to kill him, figured it wasn't the beasts or trolls that were going to end his life but members of his own species. A preemptive strike might have been his best chance, they used what looked like shields made out of wood and metal a bullet should be able to punch through at first glance, problem is Devin knew nothing about the capabilities of these people, looks are not reliable alone. Devin's glaze roamed below him when he saw the bullet casings, he almost forgot to pick them up. He knelt down still keeping his stare on the men to pick up the casings then stored them in a small pouch on his belt, it was important to recover the casings or else he would have no way to make more ammunition.

One of the men walked forward from the group, Devin reasoned he could be the leader which was perfect. If the situation got worse he could kill the leader since he was so exposed, maybe in the shock he would be able to sprint past the mob of armed warriors.
Olev said
" Hello. Who you be?

From this distance it was much easier to hear him speak, still some of the words were strange, but Devin fortunately was able to understand the meaning this time. If the leader was willing to be diplomatic then that was fine with Devin, still if these men did want to kill him it was best to attack first.

His Finnish was somewhat rusty but that shouldn't have been a problem, "Devin Lienheart, I'm only passing through I don't need trouble."

Aurland, Norway. Day One.

"Watch my back, hm?" Aimee smiled, "I'm here to do the same. It's nice to meet you, Ylva." Instead of simply sticking her hand out and waiting for Ylva to respond, Aimee stretched out her own hand, reached for her comrade's own and gave it a firm shake. "I hope the boat from Iceland gets here soon, I'm actually really excited for this."

She wasn't a daredevil. Aimee feared trolls and giants as much as the next person, but the thought of this cause, it made a certain pride swell up in her chest. They were fighting for humanity and that was something they could be proud of. "I wonder what the rest of the crew will be like, I hope none of them are jerks." She spoke the words in a light tone and shrugged. Aimee returned to her seat and watched as Ylva tried to get herself dry.

The man beside her was gone, and the girl sighed. Not much was happening in the lobby...and she needed to do something, anything to get her mind off the expedition.

'Well you'll certainly get along with one of them. There will be another scout from Finland.'

Ylva knew this because she had insisted to inspect the application letters of the other team members, even though she hadn't seen them long enough to memorize all of the details. Exploring long forgotten parts of the Silent World with complete strangers wasn't a good idea. If you thought about it, entering the Silent World was not a good idea generally spoken . They were going to risk their lives for - for what? The 'recovery of ancient knowledge invaluable to mankind'? That was clearly exaggerated and Ylva didn't believe this to be a decent reason at all. She had spent countless hours in the archives of the Academy of Seiður and simply couldn't imagine that there was anything from the past that could exceed mankinds' knowledge of today.
No, there was another reason they went out there and it most definitily had to do with money. Old books and documents were unpayable these days. A humans life was also unpayable; some fools always signed up anyways. It was her job to keep them safe with the help of the gods. She had never stopped putting her faith in them, even though they had forsaken her that one time in the past.

Now that the seat next to Aimee was empty, Ylva sat down and opened her backpack, examining her writing block: Some of the letters were blurred but the largest part of them was still readable. Thank the gods! It would have taken ages to copy those handwritten runic tables again. In the end her backpack had shown to be at least somewhat waterproof; contrary to her coat.
Ylva took a glimpse at the clock; there was still some time left until the ship from Iceland arrived, she could at least rewrite some of the pages that were damaged by the water.

The foreign man's words were very odd. He was like he could speak Olev's language but not at the same time. Olev could understand a good portion of it. So he knew they would be able to communicate easily. "I'm Olev Pääsuke. Huskarl of clan Yngling. Lower your weapon, we only kill raiders and beasts." He said. "What are you doing out here by yourself? Where is your clan?" He asked.
Olev looked at his men, with his free hand he waved at them to lower their shields. "Einar! Tell the men to calm down. This man friendly. Relax." He said. His men hearing their Huskarls words relaxed. They put away their weapons. Some decided to relax further by sitting down and eating some bread or drinking some water.
"We are a kind folk. We won't hurt you." Olev said once more.

Reykjavik

Oskar perked up when the boy mentioned food, grinning ear to ear whilst expertly quieting the growls within his own stomach.
"Aha! I was wondering when you'd ask. The canteen is this way, downstairs. If we're lucky, we may even be able to peek out of the windows before the shutters close. Not that there's much to see but water and ice, but still!" he explained, putting an arm around Otto's shoulders and steering him in the right direction.

The canteen was a large room, with several tables, benches, and cats. Loose luggage lay around here and there, either overflow from the lower compartments or people's carry on, or a mix of both. The room wasn't terribly crowded, though still lively and bustling. Oskar got both of them thick bowls of porridge and hot bread with butter, setting them down at a table by the window.
"Here we go! Fresh food! Dig in, you'll want to build up your strength. I remember when I first took the ship to Sweden, that's where this liner is from, mind you. I was a little younger than you are now, and wouldn't you know it, we were attacked by a sea beast! Whales, my boy, legend has it they were once the most beautiful and gentle of creatures. But, unfortunately, they were taken by the Illness, and now whales are no more. And more terrible than giants, they can be! Nowhere to run from a colossal behemoths on the ocean, you see! And your flamethrowers wouldn't be much use either! No need to worry, though, this ship is strong and sturdy, and whales were rare before the Illness, or so it's said. At most, there are just smaller beasts, seals and whatnot, and they can't break through the hull. Walruses, on the other hand, don't get me started!" he laughed boisterously, digging into his food like there was no tomorrow.
Keuruu

Suvi nodded as all the members of the team answered affirmatively, crossing her arms.
"Good. Not that I'd expect anything less from you, this is Finland. Now, no one knows what you will encounter out there, but from what we have gathered, Beasts will be in decline the further east you go. What you will need to worry about are Trolls, since the location you are going to was once a major city. And you are not to fight them by yourself, you hear? That may be what you might have been taught in your settlements, but you won't have the resources to wait for backup or retreat. From now on, you all need to fight as one, and get along with your comrades. If you die, there won't be anyone to replace you, and all of you are vital to the mission." She sternly explained.

To Arto's question, she chuckled, her demeanor changing.
"Of course, the cleanser would ask that." she teased him, leaning back in her seat.
"One of my colleagues, who used to be in the Swedish military, pulled some strings and managed to get us some weaponry and machinery. It's used, of course, perhaps a little outdated, it's from the last attempt by the Danes to reclaim their lost homeland, so, a little older than a decade or so. It should arrive in Saimaa in a few days, so worry not, we'll wait for your teammates to arrive before we go and get it, so be patient, Arto. It would arrive here sooner, but because to the size of this expedition, we needed a vehicle that could house you all, and the liners can't make it through the Keuruu-Pori waterway." she explained.
"Any other questions? And please, make sure you all talk to each other, you have a few days to get to know one another, so you should seize the opportunity."

Ah, so the girl was a magic user? Aimee stared at the runic symbols and smiled, it was nice to know the group was going to be diverse. She kept herself busy with thoughts since most of the things that were happening around them were quite mundane. Aimee hummed a little tune to herself, but after moments of just sitting she decided to speak. Getting to know her companion wouldn't hurt .

"Ylva, right? Wanna hear a joke?"

The man (he was now seated on the row behind them) groaned, but now that he wasn't the center of attention he smiled lightly at both girls. "You might want to skip on the jokes," he teased in a friendly manner.

Aimee rolled her eyes, but she ended up grinning at him anyways. "That joke was the bomb."

"Perhaps..." he laughed and waited to see if a joke would be told.

Ylva was absorbed in her work, almost not noticing what Aimee's question was. "A - joke?" She wasn't really in the mood for such nonsense. She also wanted to finish those pages before they got on the ship; so she just mumbled a "No, thanks." and resumed her previous activity.
