God I hope so, Casual has turned into free and advanced has turned into low casual.

I am not really one to judge what is Free/Casual/Advanced but yes, more splits in the forum would be in order.

The 1x1 issue i feel is semi-solved at the moment, by the fact that there is a PM system. Yes its not as good as the old one, in my humble opinion, but its there if you want to do 1x1. Also its away from the public eye witch means you can do all the Futari insect porn you wish.

To round this post up, i wanna comment on this Mahz bloke. Yes we understand your busy, yes we accept that your busy, and yes its okey to be busy. But again, as many have pointed out...if its to much on your back, then share that rack.

This thread has just-plain gone on too long. Staff is highly-aware of the outcries the site has, we're getting nothing productive done, any real argument for-or-against anything was stomped out early by several of us.

Mahz is a motherfucking adult capable of assessing a situation, making judgement calls and taking responsibility. Not a soul on this site has any right to second-guess his judgement, question his calls or even dare imply there is fallacy in his actions. He provides us a service free of any charge to any of us. His service, to us, has created a community, it has given birth to all of these great things people have vouched for and hold important.

We have already determined the RPGuild is not dying, other opinions are the minority and fall on deaf ears, leaving this thread to fall short of its original purpose.

I also feel a lot of more recent posts are just dick-measuring competitions to see whom can seem the most mature in how we resolve hostilities and conflicts here. That may not be the intention, but when I read through some of these admittedly-impressive soliloquies, it just looks like a redundant series of posts where the next guy tries to sound better than the next. That's nonsense. Half of this thread is nonsense.

If you guys want to have different discussions, go make them. Go make them and have a constructive conversation over the site instead of debating over tangents on this one. That's not productive, its just circular debate where none of the Staff or anyone observing the thread can attain useful information by observing and assessing it. You all have voices to be heard, intellectual points to make. Go make them in way that will be intelligent, constructive and structured. What I see on this thread, at this point, is just pointless. The question was answered and beaten to death. Move on.

I just wanted to throw my lot in here with a bit of advice for everyone.

I'm seeing a lot of feedback from members old and new, long gone, and still quite present. Of all you who have chimed in to share your perspective, thank you. To grow we need feedback. That said, to those who have offered their thoughts with little in the form of a plan -- what exactly do you expect now? It's a simple truth that if you'd like something to change you must do more than ask. Create a plan. Get a few volunteers who know more than a penny's worth about coding and what not, and actually have something to present to Mahz and the Administration. Simply stating that change is needed is great, but we know there is an issue, now we need to engage it and move forward.

As I understand, amongst the Administrative team here there are a number of skills and perspectives. Namely, we have a few more than capable of creating content, though not necessarily integrating said content into the forum or website. So we do have the means at least for a visual overhaul -- not a huge improvement, but hey, a little change to what you see everyday can have a great effect. Do we have anyone else with special skills and a willingness to invest a bit of time (realistically) each week?

Personally, my day job is in Marketing and Public Relations. I'm familiar with Social Media Marketing, Community Development, and my hobbies lie in the visual and literary arts. The RPG Newsletter is very similar to two newsletters I run in my place of work as well. While I'm not volunteering to take that or anything else on all on my lonesome, at the least, I can provide a hand and offer some help structuring a sustainable model that allows regular content creation (like the Newsletter) without pulling too much on any individual. I am also willing to help invigorate RPG through Social Media if that's desired, if nothing else than to bring a little more attention to the forum.

I don't think offering a free service exempts you from constructive criticism. Telling Mahz to throw out the fishing line and reel in some assistance can't be worded in a nicer or more 'intelligent' manner; it's a basic piece of advice, not an entire thread that requires 30 pages of extensive discussion to come to a conclusion.

Who cares if it's dying or not? As long as I can still rp with the people I'm rping with now, I don't. Heck I can generally easily find new rp partners when I want. So I doubt it's 'dying'.

Just because you're providing a free service does not make you immune to criticism, nor should it, by that logic a company with dubious business practices that provides a free service should be allowed to not receive any critique for every dubious thing it does(not to imply that Mahz is doing anything dubious to be clear).

Mahz is a great person, and he did create this community, that does not mean that we are not well within our rights as well to critique his refusal to let anyone help him

At the end of the day, a lot of us are looking at this from a business perspective—as far as non-profit service business goes, there is a lot to be critical with here and we shouldn’t ignore it or dismiss those opinions because they do need to be heard. It just seems at this point Mahz running this as a sole proprietorship doesn’t work as he doesn’t have the time or capacity to maintain it beyond the base level. A good message board has a team of administration to keep the mechanics and functions cohesive, and a moderation team to keep the users in line. Something isn’t working and everything individuals like ASTA and Jorrick have stated are exactly the point here.

But it's not, it's more like a community park. Yes it's pretty, and there are things that could be added to it, but at the end of the day you still have the park, yet it's not your call as to what is done to it.

I bet this is the key reason why Mahz doesn't do donations; to avoid the average joes who think they know this and that, who feel entitled because they "may or may not" donate.

I encounter that attitude frequently. "I'm doing you a favor, so don't complain." Ok, that only helps me if this "favor" is actually what I need. If a friend offers to fix your car's brakes, and instead changes the oil, that's not helpful. By the logic presented, you shouldn't complain, because it's a favor. Well...you're still just as dead at an intersection.

I will always be grateful for the site. I have had some of my best roleplay here. To point out flaws is not to be ungrateful. To offer suggestions and constructive criticism is not to be selfish. It is just people giving feedback. That he doesn't "have to" provide this place does not invalidate the flaws it has. To point out that there are ways in which it could be better does not mean we're biting the hand that feeds us; especially when that information is provided not as a personal attack, but as a means to help make this place better and help make it serve its intended purpose.

What would help is if such suggestions were made in a way which does not come off as an obvious personal shaming, or an attempt to dress down those responsible for the site's upkeep. We don't know why the promises weren't kept; just that they weren't. We can't assume it was intentional.

I find a helping hand to be much more productive than a pointed finger. It's harder, certainly, but the benefits cannot be argued.

Your fanatical loyalty to Mahz is cute and all, but this is just plain wrong. Mahz is indeed a motherfucking adult who is capable of those things, but the argument being made here by the disgruntled folks is that he is failing in at least the 'taking responsibility' portion (due to the shitty condition of the site) and perhaps the 'making judgment calls' portion as well (due to him deciding to remain the only code builder of the site himself despite clearly not having the time or interest or whatever has kept him from doing it for months now). Every single soul on this site has the right to second-guess him, actually, because he's providing a service. It's called consumer feedback. Just because it's free (and by the way, this doesn't mean he's necessarily paying for us to have the site, he has ads on the thing for a reason) does not mean we have no right to say there are things wrong with it. If you were to ask for food and someone were to hand you a free rotten hunk of meat that does not mean you need to shut your fucking mouth and enjoy it just because it's free; you would be well within your rights to complain that it's a rotten hunk of meat rather than actual edible food. Same principle applies here, so please get off your knees and stop mindlessly fellating Mahz, thanks.

It can also be added that we (The critics) have praised certain acepts of this site. Aeonumbra needs to re-read some posts me thinks.

Also, speeking from long-term memory, i remmber folks that are in this thread who loved the old Rpguild. All they want (and me for that matter) is to make this forum as good. We are crtics cause we want this place to be better, not mindless trolls with a taste for cyber bullying

Hi, my name is Rose and I'm an alcoholic. *Hiiii Rose.*

In all seriousness, several of you people may recognize me from my nonsense around here and old guild (I joined in 2011) and yeah, I left after Guildfall (I like that term for it btw). Why did I leave? Lots of reasons. I like the new format, I had every intention of coming back, but then the updates stopped. I thought I was going to see a site be built from the ground up and see it evolve and be amazing, you know? I laughed at the unicorns, saw the childlike wonder everyone looked around and made judgements on the new style, I saw the demand for the : to be brought back. I enjoyed the feeling of being able to start with a blank slate and make it what we wanted.

But it died. The roleplays I was in died. I couldn't find (and still can't) find some of the people I roleplayed with on the old guild, and I don't really have a way to find them again. It sucks. Maybe I would have stayed had I had one or more of the three. It's disappointing. There was also life things and school things and debate things that came up for me, I became more social, I got a job, and I had a life now. We all get lives.

I didn't go running to Iwaku (I think I have an account there, but that was for other purposes), because I have my own site that I maintain, and yes, it has its flaws too. All sites do. Nothing's perfect. But there are active admins. Shit, there's like five of them and they're active. We have a tech admin who runs the server and stuff but he's pretty transparent about things. Other admins can make changes to the site if we can't get to him. I respect the mods here, they're pretty rad (Holmes and Sophi <3), but they can only do so much. I respect Mahz' decision to be the only coder, because that's a big trust thing he can't just hand off to some stranger on the Internet, and it's hard to find people with a) interest and b) experience in the real world (I got lucky when booting my site with a close friend). Even Contra (who I never saw here to begin with... She's busy with photography stuff I think though). But there comes a point where you have to swallow your pride and ask for help. Especially when you have many angry (to continue the analogy) customers. Not even the President of the United States runs the whole thing by himself. Not even Kim Jong Un runs the whole thing by himself.

I respect you have a life, Mahz. But when you have people willing to step up and help, whether it be with paying or with coding help, at some point you need to realize you are not Atlas and can't support everything. You're one guy, a swell one at that. You don't deserve the stress and stuff this kind of thing brings.

People have opinions.

People that can't find the roleplays this wish to participate in, nor people to roleplay with thinks the site sucks.

I don't personally care. I have good people to roleplay with, and good roleplays. It took tome to find them all. Time I was willing to put in, because frankly, this year has sucked. I know others don't care to spend time searching for good roleplayed. But in The first five minutes of rejoining the guild when this site came up, I found a toleplay that has continued until this day. *shrugs* so maybe those that can't find roleplays just don't want to bother given the sites less then professional appeal.

Your loss.

I'm tired of seeing things like this. If you don't like it, leave peacefully instead of acting like a child who didn't get a candy bar, ranting and screaming that they didn't get their way. Have some bloody dignity and respext for others who enjoy the site.

The guild won't die so long as people are still here.

Constructive Criticism is respecting the site. There are few people personally attacking people who are from the critical point of view, yet all I see of personal attacks and condescension is from the people who are attacking the critics. Ironic, no?
