Considered joining this RP, but then I noticed two nations are packing naval firepower equal to or greater than the modern US Navy.

EDIT: Honestly, unless the ballistic missile is invented, Boerd's Mega Navy is more or less going to solo the RP.

It may be too fantasy for this roleplay, I guess, but I'd love if it can still be allowed- sort of like a special country amongst crazy big empires and stuff.

That would imply the Republic actually has enough naval personnel to crew and supply it. With just 600,000, I figure either half the fleet is mothballed, or they're crewing every ship with like 5 people.

Then you'll have to make sure you got the right allies. Or walk a more peacefull path^^

Or you just make a mega blob population of 160 million + and state that you've a navy with more then 4 million sailors. That should entitle you to have 6,67 times the number of ships then boerd :)

But I am in great favor of a big peace conference where we're gonna discuss disarmement and such :D

Though, to be fair, this is a Dieselpunk RP. The firepower of ANY military is prolly going to exceed realistic expectations. And for that matter, you could always be a land-based nation (even a landlocked one) to avoid being forced into naval confrontations.

That being said, I still stand by my suggestion that if a navy simply does not have enough people to crew and supply its ships, then the number of vessels is more or less irrelevant.

Not going to happen with a naval superpower of such strength. Considering 26 supercarriers effectively guarantees maritime supremacy and therefore a monopoly on international trade (it was stated that the nation itself is a major financial hub), the Malassakian Republic wields enough political and martial power to ignore disarmament talks without consequence. Gunboat diplomacy will, undoubtedly, come into full effect. Without some sort of WMD-class weapon, there's no deterrent in existence that can suppress them.

He has enough. Current US Navy active duty personnel is approximately 325,000; the 600,000 active duty count Boerd has listed is more or less legitimate.

There's the thing of fun for roleplayers that we also have to take into account.

I very closely modelled my navy on the 1939 British Navy, reflecting the tension. I converted 6 battleships to carriers as a result of the enormous 40 carrier navy of Eratia.

As he has toned his navy down, my super carriers are now just fleet carriers.

I dropped it down to 16. Or to be more specific. I dropped my entire army by 2/3's. Then I noticed that you had increased your man power to 600,000 (100,000 more then me) so I decided to make my navy roughly 83% of your navy size :P

It would not be much fun to keep my navy at 1,5 million men and have over twice the ships you have^^

I think the term supercarrier was first used with the Forrestal class as that class was the first to displace 60,000 tonnes. The Midway, Yorktown and Essex class displaced less. Funny fact is that the number of aircraft carried did not increase with the introduction of super carriers. Aircraft became much bigger and heavier. To have a similair amount of airplanes they needed much bigger carriers. US fleet carriers of ww2 carried same or more planes then the Nimitz class does today :D

The first ever supercarrier was HMS Ark Royal, 1938.
The definition has since expanded and now include only those carriers who exceed 65,000 tonnes.
Basically anything that equals, or topples the HMS Queen Elizabeth's weight is a supercarrier.

SO! Allow me to QUOTE my rules, since, according to the majority of the nation sheets here, you did not read them (I count three sheets that confirmed they had read the rules):
Skepic said
Rules

-The GM has the ultimate final word for anything. Period. While I am happy to hear what you have to say, when I say "No" it means "No", end of discussion. This also means holding your opinion on the matter until the GM gives the final word.-

- Long pointless debates and arguments over ultimately trivial things seem to be a bit of a plague here after I looked through some of your long dead Steampunk/dieselpunk NRPs. So if it cant be settled in a few posts, take it to PMs. We are not here to argue who made the first assault rifle, or when the first whatever the fuck was made.-

-ABSOLUTELY NO POWERGAMING/GODMODDING! The leaders of your nation do not have acess to the thread! Thus any secret messages or other discussions cannot be heard unless the circumstances call for it, i.e the players already talked about a spy being present or whatever.-

-Grammar and spelling must be readable.Posts should not be one sentence. I want to see some good paragraphs. Of course if there's not much to post, that's fine, post it anyway-

-STAY ACTIVE! PLEASE! If your are thinking of joining the NRP, keep in mind I require that you post at least once every two days. I get things can get hectic in life, but want to see this be fairly active and not die four posts into the IC. Let us know if you are going on some sort of extended absence and try to tie up any loose ends so you don't leave other players hanging.-

-The Great War Machines! Now war is always fun to have in NRPs, and I am going to be very liberal on big nations possessing some massive war machine. However, the few restrictions I will apply is that you can't just whip it out on every battle and they will be generally be slow moving. Other than that, go nuts! Just understand they are not really there to win your nation a war, but to add to the world and have a Goliath for David to face.-

-On that note, technology in general! I will say that we shall limit it generally to something of the early 1940s, AKA, no jets at all, wider diversity of armored vehicles and aircraft, ect. Flying wings and such will be allowed and to be honest, I will just play it by ear.-

-Have fun! No really, I'm being half serious here. This is a fantasy/adventure based NRP with notable characters, places, and wars alike! Don't get to caught up in realism and just sit back and let things slide by. We are all here to have a good time, so simply shrug and move on from it.-

-Put "I read that mess, can we start already!?" at the bottom of your NS to confirm you have read the rules-

Pay close attention to the two last rules

How many times must I make myself clear. I DO NOT CARE ABOUT SPECIFIC NUMBERS! I don't care how many battleships, aircraft carriers, or whatever you have! They should NOT have any great effect on the Roleplay. If you are here to powergame, try to "win", or striving to create a supreme nation "because I want a supreme nation" and not that you think it would be fun to have a nation that ultimately wants to take over the world, then leave. Period. I stress again and again and again that this is not that kind of roleplay. We are not here to spout out numbers at each other in page long arguments, we are not here to argue "What came first and when". We are here to have floating fortresses, crazy mechanical contraptions, and awesome fun total wars that are filled with personal struggles of characters all caught within this mess. From the great general to the lowly conscripted private, to the civilian trying to survive that mess both in and out of war, you decide who's story will be told. Stop arguing over such petty things.

I have said before I trust that nobody will abuse this huge amount of freedom I'm giving you. Yes, there will be great war machines that will seemingly crush an entire army in a single battle, but there should be an agreement on BOTH ends on what will happen. Maybe that massive mobile fortress gets taken out by a lone crack squad who against all odds destroys the mobile monster. Who knows?

Anyway, please refrain from commenting on other people's NS unless unless its about involving your nation with another like talks about shared histories, trade, ect. If I spot something then I will say something. For now, finish up those nation sheets so we don't take a hundred years to start this.

I intend to make a nation for this RP, in the southern tundra. Populated by gas-powered robots. Are robots okay? About 100,000 robots total.
