This answers Kyles question that I totally did not miss earlier. It's also something resembling a map we can use with efficacy. I'm working on things of the IC variety by the way. Hype train anyone?

I've had hardly any time to do anything for the last week. I just finished house sitting for my parents, so I should be a wee bit less busy. I have about 1/3 of my IC opening done as of now.

I believe it's much better to reveal history and personality while posting. Anyone can sit for an hour or two, bullshitting up how their character got a scar or how he/she became an alcoholic. Live dangerously and type up your post without premeditation. Your current emotion will translate into your post, I assure you this!

Asshatter, I appreciate the apparent effort you put into your CS but there are a few issues:

  • You did not PM your CS to me and get approval before posting it.

  • This is not Israel, or Earth for that matter, so Krav Maga isn't really a thing. Knowing an equivalent is fine, but KM is essentially a mix of several martial arts with some added lethality. You were oddly specific with the fighting style, but then left the weapon training as "melee weapon".

  • A thirteen-year-old did not master Krav Maga in two years.

  • Kriss will go out of his way to recklessly save people at the expense of his own life, yet he apparently hates them and can't stand dealing with them. Not only is his personality contradictory for no discernible reason, but he has a meaningless death-wish. You went into detail on how he managed to meet his instructor, but barely mentioned the events that turned him from an idealist to a suicidal cynic-idealist.

  • I specifically stated that the limit for firearms was revolvers. Every rule has an exception, but I can't very well grant one if the rest aren't followed.


Also, I agree with Uffizi. It's better to be vague but informative with backgrounds so that you can fill in the gaps later for character development and filler.

I feel I should also mention that we already have a fist-user here, Catherine, who's extent in martial arts is "I punch thing in face hard and thing die." Kinda feels a bit... redundant, I'd say, to throw in a martial artist as well. Also, if your character is younger than the time the world went to shit, who'd teach them the martial art anyway? I could see some old dude keeping the judo lessons he had from 20 years ago, but no one would learn any specific forms of martial arts. I could see someone teaching general self-defense classes at best, however. :V

There's nothing wrong with having multiple unarmed fighters, especially considering that firearms are supposed to be a big rarity. Otherwise we'd get something along the lines of "And so the group, unarmed and defenseless, were forced to wildly flare their arms at the charging hoard of lost."

And to be fair there's no reason why someone couldn't teach martial arts following the event, especially if they were already a teacher. For example my character was in his early thirties when the event occurred, so if he knew martial arts (which he didn't really, though he was trained) he could pass his knowledge on.

I didn't read the guys CS though so I can't really make a comment, save to criticise your criticism :P

It's unlikely all of us will end up in the same group, and it would be odd to have only one character that can properly defend themselves when it's been seventeen years since the world went to shit. Basic self defense would likely be a common skill for anybody who tries to make a living outside of DERB safe zone protection.

Asshatter, a piece of advice too: Make sure you read the rules carefully and title your PM to me appropriately. If it's too much of a pain to accept you, I won't, as much as I love having new members.

By the way, I apologize to everyone: I bought Dragon Age Inquisition. However, I will likely hammer out a bunch of IC tonight, and hopefully have it up before week's end. For real this time.
