A few weeks ago I posted the original idea to this, but decided to go with a different idea. Not too long ago, I began work on fleshing out the world that the first idea would take place in. This involved geography, religions, races, nations, and a history. Now I called this "The Lore Book" and it is quite unfinished. That being said, I still want to get things going because the original idea has changed a lot. Now this was going to be following a strict plot-line, but after creating the world and fantasizing about my creation, I have decided that it would be better to have that plot as a back drop. That does not mean that there will not be a "main story" to follow, but I want this to be as much fun and be as much about the setting as the story. So what is the idea? Well it was an OP and here it is.

The lands of E'tos are an ancient place. They have seen war, peace, plague, and much more. It is currently the Golden Age. The metal of Man used to be used for swords, axes, and all other instruments of death. Now, they are simply used to build tools for the betterment of their civilization. The racial hatred of old still boils in the blood of all those in the land. Men have an inbred hate for the Elvish people, who in turn, hate the Mountain-folk. Though there is still hate, there is no war. Boundaries were drawn, cities and towns were isolated from those belonging to a different race. Segregation on a large scale. These boundaries are rarely crossed, and even then, they rarely lead to any kind of bloodshed. It is called the Golden Age due to this lack of bloodshed, but also because of the religious undertakings. Without having to worry about death or torture, missionaries and religious explorers have been able to travel the lands freely, discovering themselves and their beliefs. But they have not discovered the truth.

There are many religions across E'tos, but they are mostly wrong. There are beings of a higher power, but they are not Gods. The beings that are worshiped as Gods, are actually protectors. The Protectors, or Gods, do not dwell in the heavens above, no, they dwell in a type of limbo that is between the mortal plane and the Underworld. The Protectors are beings from an age long forgotten. Their purpose was simple; keep the Underworld, and all of it's inhabitants, in place. There was a problem though. The Great Betrayer led his minions, an army of Protectors loyal to him, against the Gate and those who protected it. A large battle ensued, the bloodshed was unimaginable. Ultimately, the Betrayer lost and was cast down into the Underworld. Centuries passed, the Gate was protected, a Golden Age in the mortal plane came about, everything was good.

On an inconspicuous day, the Betrayer broke free of the Underworld. He marched towards the Gate, this time the army behind him was a mix of his loyalists and beings of evil that he liberated from the Underworld. The Gate fell within hours. A vast majority of the Protectors were slain, even more were captured and tortured to death. The Betrayer had seized the Gate. His wrath was not finished. The Betrayer plucked the Captains and the Generals from the ranks of the Protectors, and kept them alive. They were the ones that had cast him down, and he would be the one to return the favor. But he was much more devious, and creative, than that. The Underworld was an end, it was dark immortality, the end of the road. There was something worse than that, something the Protectors had not yet felt. Mortality.

The Betrayer slew the General in the most brutal of ways, the head mounted for all to see. The Captains were not so fortunate. There souls were stripped from their bodies, forced to watch helplessly as their immortal vessels were destroyed. The Betrayer, in a move of pure wicked genius, cast these unfortunate souls onto E'tos. These souls would not possess a fully grown adult, nor would they possess a dead body. No, these souls were to possess a fetus a womb. They would grow as mortals, unaware of who they were, until the reached adulthood. At that point it would be revealed to them, who they were and what they were. They would develop attachments to family, friends, lovers, enemies, pets, and everything else that made a person mortal. They would enjoy the pain that was the evil in all mortals. They would experience a whole new world. But, unknown to The Betrayer, they would possess some of their divine abilities, and if harnessed right, these once-Protectors could rise up and bring about his downfall.

Only time could tell.

This gives some story back drop but not much else, that is where The Lore Book (a google doc) would come in handy because it would be a great reference for people to use. The Lore Book is not a HUGE undertaking, and it will hopefully be done in a week or two. So now we get to what High Adventure is. It is a Roleplay that takes place in a fantasy setting RIPE with adventure and storytelling.

Here is the interest I'm looking for.

I'm hoping to gather a group of Roleplayers to play this story out with. I am hoping for dedicated posters who will be with us during slow times and quick times. I want creativity, patience, and again, dedication. I also like the idea of A LOT OF SUBPLOTS. So I want you guys (those who are going to sign up and take part) to submit ideas for subplots that would take place. Now obviously to do that you'll need a finished Lore Book, so once that is done, I'll let people take a look. For now I just want people to come in here with ideas, ideas, ideas, and more ideas. I want ideas for races, religions, subplots, anything you can think of (related to this of course).

Happy New Year, I hope to see a lot of great ideas over the course of the next week or so (and so on).

I'm still really interested in this.

I have an idea: what if the Protectors were worshipped by ancient peoples, thousands of years before the fall of the Protectors to mortality? Temples were built in their honor, holding purifying and powerful waters with their blessing. These waters would simply act on a normal man with whatever effect the Protector gave, but on mortal Protectors, these waters would reopen their powers. But over time, as men forgot their Protectors, the temples fell into ruin. The temples were lost to time and forgotten by all mortals, locations unknown. When the Protectors fell, so too did they forget their temples. Some temples fell into the ocean, some temples were buried by dirt and sands, some temples were overgrown with nature, but for each temple the same happened: each would fade from all memory and each would succumb to the elements and disappear. Even still within the temples of the Protectors were sanctuaries hidden behind what seemed to be their final chambers wherein the water was. In these sanctuaries, there was a door of sorts. Not a physical door, but a great seal on the floor with intricate patterns and runes. These seals were connected to the realm from which the Protectors hailed. When fate allowed and the mortal Protectors had enough power and came to understand their roles fully, their sanctuaries would open to them, and their full potential would be unlocked as the seals broke and the powers surged into the Protectors.

Of course, for balance's sake, the Protectors would have to go through trials and battles with monsters and the like to get to their temples and to harness their powers from their temples, but the idea is the same. The temples are a way for them to restore their power because they still hold the subdued energy of the ancient people who believed in them. Perhaps the temples were even built on top of by some people, like a temple could be hidden somewhere within a king's castle or a palace, or underneath a new religion's main place of worship or center of power.

(Feel free to take this idea or modify it however you wish, but I thought this would be cool to suggest.)

I really like it. We could say that the religions of old were right, but forgotten, and replaced by new ones. I think that'll be a great thing to implement.

Got your message, since the original post a while back I did find a RP that I'm dedicating lot of energy into, but I think I can manage this.

Anyway my ideas from last time still stand, the whole idea that the moral form of the protectors reflect some of what their holy might was. Like the example I had was if as a protector was an archer, in mortal life they would have great aptitude for archery and any related traits that help with archery, like say kinetic sense. Last part was no one inherits any physical qualities, those pretty much are still left to nature.

I like the idea of traits carried on into their mortal life. It'd be a great way to explain powers and their connection to the old life.

I have decided that The Lore Book is far enough (which is saying a lot because I am only in the first section) for people to start viewing it. I have gotten one region (there are four) almost done, so you can draw inspiration for characters from this region (there are more).

I understand that feeling. I can't wait to see them. I have maps of all four regions posted to The Lore Book, but only a completed description for one.

Awesome, I've got an idea for the Protector of freedom and independence, of the wind and the hunt in which freedom and independence can be found. In the creation narrative of the Protectors, he gave the living the breath of life, the air for voice, the stirring of the mind, and the blowing through instruments. As a mortal, he will live in Canum.

Found a song on YouTube that would represent him well too. Another good one. I'm borrowing some inspiration from these.

I like the idea. I should flesh out the Protectors a bit more. They are not Gods, and thus, they do not need to have a specialty. So like the God of War would be the Protector of Battle or what not. The Protectors are immortal (immortal in the sense that they cannot be killed in the same manner as a Mortal), and are the closest things to Gods that exist. Now Damian's idea does a great job of explaining the Protectors movement from immortal to mortal. The Protectors that were sent onto E'tos, were the Captains in charge of Protecting the Gate. So you'd have your Captain who excelled as an archer. That skill would transfer over (known or unknown to his mortal self) but it would transfer over tenfold. Essentially, that mortal would have amazing archery capabilities (think Odysseus at the end of The Odyssey).

Now to your idea with freedom and independence. I could see a Protector who was an amazing huntsman (tracker and very stealthy, as well as being familiar with animals). That Protector would transfer the skills over to his/her mortal self. So maybe the mortal lived on a farm growing up and at the age of 20, a large pack of feral wolves attacked and killed his/her family and all of the livestock. So the mortal Protector (unaware of his/her Immortal past) is somehow naturally able to track down these wolves with ease and slaughter them.

Unless I read your post wrong, in which case, feel free to correct me.

No, no, I completely understand all of that. It makes sense to me, it's fairly simple. Don't hear me wrong, I'm not making them gods at all. Sure, godlike, but not gods.

I mean to say that in the wind and the hunt, he is most commonly recognized; thus, he is most proficient in those aspects when he becomes a mortal, but his general domain is freedom.

I normally avoid writing too much of a background for the character this early, but I give the idea a solid yay. Of course, I'm probably going to edit it drastically because having it given so directly takes the fun out of making one for myself.

Alright, I understand better now. I'm sure I'll get the complete picture once the Lore Book is completed and character sheets are up. I like that you have a character idea already.

So I'm looking at the Lore Book now and I was wondering. When the RP starts, where would our characters meet up at? At the moment, I feel like the Crossroads would be the most logical and believable unless there's going to be a better spot later.

I'm having this idea of a Protector of luck/fortune/something along those lines and I don't know what to do with it. Like I'm thinking either a gambler or a fortune teller but I don't know.

The Crossroads would be a fun place, unless you're a Halfling. I haven't put in The Old World or Helfe though.

I'm bumping this, mainly because I think this roleplay got thrown under the bus by the update. Let's see if we can milk the cow for more interest.

Thank you! I have been on and off but my phone was unreliable when it came to posting. I've also had a busy weekend which slowed my work on the Lore Book. I am hoping for more members and a finished Lore Book, or just a finished Lore Book so our small collection can start.
