Right now, the Relics primarily needs the following:
Otheans

As the kingdom all players currently are in, this is a natural choice to take. To give a frame of reference, Othea is similar to the typical medieval European kingdom, with nobles, merchants, clergy, knights in shiny armor and peasants. While the society has certain feudal tendencies, this is not quite as marked as it is in Kalnach.

Women have limited rights, but they can own property and have some influence on who they marry and such. While they can serve in the military, they tend to face discrimination when they do.
Primary religious group: Order of Idris (found in all orders of society)
Secondary religious groups: Old Othean (primarily found among the elderly), worship of the Kalesian fertility Goddess (primarily among the youth)

Evokers aren't popular, but they exist and aren't universally discriminated against.

Kalnachi

The citizens of Kalnach, Othea's northern neighbor, are numerous within Othea. While most Kalnachi are deeply religious, this is just as much out of personal belief as it is out of fear of the Inquisitors. For while the nobility and crown are technically the rulers of Kalnach, everyone knows that the real power rests in the hands of the Kalnachi inquisition.
In Kalnach, women have few rights. They can't own property, and their status in society hinges on that of their male relatives and/or that of their husbands. They are more than slaves, but not much more.
Sole religious group: Inquisitors of Kalnach

Male Evokers have the choice between serving the inquisitors and death if discovered. Female evokers get to choose between death and death if discovered. The Inquisitors maintain an extensive spy network, so few escape their notice.

Dominion of Idris

This faction is not an easy one to have a PC from, as all PCs must be evokers, and The Order of Idris believe that the only good evoker is a dead evoker. If you feel up to the challenge, you can try this nation, but it is harder than the others.
The Dominion of Idris is a nation located to the south of Othea. The Order is the only power there. All citizens of the Dominion serve the order. As such, any noble ranks are irrelevant when compared to religious rank. They are well-known for prejudice against anyone wielding Relics, willingly or not.

Women have fewer rights than men in the Dominion, less than In Othea, but not quite as bad as it is in Kalnach. Female members of the clergy exist, but they are rare.
Sole religious group: Order of Idris

Becoming an evoker, willingly or not, is an automatic death sentence. Discovered relics are stored in deep vaults somewhere deep in the Dominion.

Kalesian Empire

The Kalesian empire is very different from the other nations. It is a merit-based society, where the religion, while powerful, is somewhat on the sidelines. They don't get involved in politics directly. Rank in society is entirely based on merit, so a long-standing noble family can loose the titles if a generation should not prove skilled enough to retain it, and similarly a non-noble family can gain titles simply through skill.

Women have equal rights to men in the Empire, serving in all parts of society equally.

Evokers are highly respected and trained to serve the Empress, may she live forever, loyally. Only those who are a threat to society and themselves face any sort of bad treatment.

**Name:** Kheris

**Age:** 59

**Gender:** Male

**Faction/Allegiance:** Kingdom of Othea

**Relic Description:** The Relic is the bracelet that has been embedded in his skin. His relic differs from most others, while holds similarity to others. His relic does not so much grant him abilities as it does unlock his upper brain functions, and allows him to see the energy from which the universe is made. Using this his power is understanding, viewing other relics in use or studying the actual item he can figure out new powers and abilities to his arsenal which makes him uniquely dangerous. However there is a major downside, the Relic only had enough energy in it for very few tasks so Kheris must obtain the energy via other means. He can absorb electrical energy, and energy through eating and as of yet has not found any other means. While electrical energy grants a great boost he has only managed to do so once in his years of having the relic due to the unpredictability of the only electrical power source, lightning.

Given time and a source he could easily become one if not the most powerful Relic Users however right now he could probably take on a squad of troops with ease and not much more.

**Flaws: **

-Takes time to gain charge for his relic, his body is old and without using the Relic to empower him moving is a struggle. If he uses energy that the relic does not have it drains the energy from his own, already ailing, body which petrifies cells in his body. While he can chose what cells are petrified they are not repairable by any simple means even if he found someone with a healing relic. His right hand has hardened and has turned a grey colour due to overuse of the relic. This has made it nearly useless except when he is using his relic to power his muscles.

-Age: His advanced age unless he uses his relic to give him additional strength he must use a cane for walking and is slow and frail.

-Scholar: While this is also one of his skills and advantages the fact he is a scholar, and has been for all his years. Means that he has neglected the combat side of things other than hand to hand training. Give him a weapon and he wouldn’t really know what to do with it.

-Ineffective right hand: Mentioned above.

-Known figure: Unless actively in disguise despite his few public appearances many people know him due to the fact that he is part of the royal family. Luckily this doesn’t extend far out of Amaryth.

**Skills:**
-Mind over matter: Through both his relic and the years he has spent studying the world of Azukhar his mind is one of the most skilled in the realm. With knowledge at his fingertips to act as his weapon or shield.
-Hand to hand: Despite his age and frailty, years ago he was made to train in hand to hand combat. Though this training is only effective with the assistance of his relic.
-Tactician: Partially through training, partially through his relic and partially through his studying he has become quite the tactician.
-Survival training: Being in the royal court again he was given some of the best survival training. Many of these skills he continues to hone to this very day, this is assisted with him being a scholar.
-Medicinal: This is an area where has not studied as much over the years, however he can still remember many herbs that can be off assistance in various situations.
-Politics/Subterfuge: In this time they are one of the same. He hasn’t only studied books all these years, but has studied people. Plays on their weaknesses, fears, goals, wishes. He also used to have a knack for sneaking around until he got older.

**Biography: **
From a young age Kheris learnt the power of his position. Though he never felt need to use it. He was always a thinker, while he could use his title to give him power out of nowhere came a sense of gaining that which he got given. The older of two sons he was next in line for the throne. A title he felt he had to earn, while his younger brother was always with his father learning the trials of combat and working his way across the Kingdom in bouts against bandits. At the same time as his younger brother was learning 101 ways to decapitate an outlaw, Kheris was studying the history. Not just of Othea, but of Azukhar itself. He began to piece together pieces of text based on myths of the Old Kingdom. Many of which he obviously kept hidden from the agents of the Order of Idris that were within the royal court. This lead to a division between himself and his brother, who felt he was giving up his right to rule for knowledge and that strength was the way forward. This division would remain until he was much older.

Always a forward thinker he did not see why the Kingdom could not use these relics in order to strengthen it against future turmoil, internal as well as external, to allow it to grow and prosper uniting all the kingdoms in Azukhar into one as it was over a thousand years ago. A noble goal indeed, and to demonstrate it, the fiefs under his control began to see change. Lords of villages were no more this bit might need fixing. Did he demote the nobles? skip promoting new ones when the old died? revoke inherited right to rule?, instead he allowed the people to chose their own leaders. It took years to find a way that would include adequate protection for the towns under his control, and before the system of beacons and militias was completed a bandit raid managed to raze one of his villages all in all it was an unpopular move to the Nobles throughout the kingdom but the commoners accepted it without protest feeling that they at last had a chance for power. That was when he received a document from one of his new “Mayors”. An old map marked with archaic symbols in thanks for what Kheris had done for the town. It took him months to decipher it, as his younger brother continued to chase bandits and hone his combat abilities. Talking with those he had to talk to in order to improve his chances of becoming King when the time came. This was when Kheris undertook his journey into the Spires of Malloch in search for the destination the map lead to. The journey was treacherous, and possibly deadly and while he did not have combat experience he had not neglected survival training. Travelling tooks months as most of the original route was destroyed and the destination was unclear, hardening his body. While he was twenty venturing into the range his body was molded by it finishing his change from boy to man. The baby fat left him, a beard grew and his features become more chiselled.

He finally found the entrance of the temple in question, though it was sealed. He moved to the door running his hand over it, the runes above the door lighting in a red door. Stating that it could only be opened by those worthy of becoming the keeper of the temple. In the rush of euphoria at finding the temple and without thinking he placed his hand on an indentation on the door in the shape of a hand. Which retracted pulling his arm into the door. He could feel sharp edges running along, but not quite cutting his flesh. Though knew that there was a chance that what happened next could be the end of his life.

However instead he felt something cool tighten around from his wrist covering his entire left forearm to just before the elbow. He then fell back unconscious on the ground. When he awoke the temple door open, but everything was different. He could see golden, red and blue light everywhere. He could see the energy of the world. We’d think he wouldn’t immediately understand what he was seeing. Perhaps initially it drove him a touch insane? Also, relics generally unfurl their power a bit more subtly. He knew immediately that he had been bestowed with a relic and had become the gatekeeper. While there was a rush of excitement he was also worried about the chance the Order of Idris would discover this. However he shrugged off the thought. While he had largely ignored the politics of a royal court he knew them well enough to keep secrets, and as such decided to explore his new domain.

Upon return to the capital of Othea he found that his father had died and the court in the middle of choosing which of the two princes would become King. This feels a bit odd. He’s been gone for months, why would the court even be considering him? Perhaps instead the father is on the deathbed and the court scurrying for position for the upcoming crown competition? He knew he did not want it though went through the rituals as he should, trying half heartedly trying to gather support for himself. Knowing that no matter what he did, even if he had wanted to become King to Othea he would never have gotten it. Too many nobles felt threatened by his insistence to allow commoners to regulate themselves and their towns. Though this worked to his advantage, he had other duties to perform such as the creation of the Kings Hand, a secret order he would base out of the hidden temple he had found deep within the Spires of Malloch. While his brother was becoming a pawn of the Order of Idris, no doubt allowing them to control his moves he himself began to seek the betterment and increase of power for his own people, with his ability to see energy he could seek out those who held relics and find where their loyalties were. Those who would not assist Othea were imprisoned or sent to the Dominion.

Following his brother’s coronation, most of the nobles began to ignore him. With his frequent trips away from the capital to the temple and the secrecy surrounding them, that suited Kheris well. In time he learned that not only he could see energy but that he could manipulate it using himself as a conduit. This was how he lost most function in his right hand, ten years after obtaining his relic. Using far too much power for far too long he began to feel his cells petrifying. How did this make him feel? In order to prevent widespread damage he drew power from his right hand leaving it a withered out husk. It was around this time his brother began to have suspicions about where he was going and what he was up to. While his brother had used him as a trusted advisor for years with his extensive knowledge on both the current world of Azukhar and the Old Kingdom, he now sent spies after Kheris, who found the temple. When Hrodlaf was led there by the spies, his faith was shaken.

He feared that Kheris intended to lead an uprising against him, using evokers to do so, seizing the throne and killing the soon to be born heir to the throne. Despite the fact that he should have known that Kheris entertained no notions of becoming King, wishing only to guide and shape it for the better of everyone. A fight ensued between Kheris and his brother, a battle of words. Hroldaf worrying that Kheris would bring the kingdom to ruin by the hand of Idris in a bid for the throne. Kheris waited and finally thought back, he had never sought power. He had never made an attempt to take control and the Shadows had operated for ten years without attracting the attention of Idris. While this did not alleviate all of the King’s fears, he nonetheless gave reluctant consent for his brother to continue his work, but only on the condition that Kheris would keep this between them, and not tell the heir to the throne until he or she came into his or her inheritance.

And so it was, for the past twenty-nine years Kheris has trained and built up the secret order of guardians for the kingdom, letting no word about its existence escape except through accidental rumors. Deploying them on missions throughout Othea and even beyond its borders, he kept the kingdom relatively stable and safe. Over these years, he has gathered a handful of new tricks, though despite his best efforts, he still struggles against the fact his relic does not have its own power source and seems incapable of tapping into the many sources of power other relics are attuned to. Due to this he mainly uses his relic to find other evokers, and find relics themselves when he is not aiding his Brother in the royal court and coaching his Nephew in the way of the world. Without of course allowing the young prince to find out about the Shadows or the fact that his uncle is an evoker.

**Name:** Seth Alte-Erin **Age:** 23 **Gender: **Male **Faction/Allegiance:** He is aligned with Gellor’s Shadows, and indirectly so with the Kingdom of Othea **Relic Description: **The Relic is an ornate circular amulet made out of a dark metal, it possesses engravings picturing the three moons of Azukhar in the sky on one side, and a weakened fading sun on the other side, The moons are depicted by three crystals embedded on the amulet, whilst the sun remains simply an engraving. The inside however is more peculiar, To those other than Seth, the interior is fairly plain, containing a small mirror surrounded by tiny crystals and one big crystal in the middle. To Seth though, the inside has a surface of what could be described as a extremely dense black smog, magically orbiting around the middle crystal lay three orbs. On his first years with the amulet he didn't understand what the interior of it meant and assumed it to be somewhat decorative. However as he became more proficient with the relic he began to see coincidences involving the positions of the orbs, the moons, and his power spikes. Eventually he realized that the orbs symbolized the three moons, and whenever one of them reached the top of the amulet his power spiked. The Relic's power depends on heavily on the Three moons. It takes lunar energy as a source of power, as such, The intensity of the power fluctuates intensely based on the Moons positions. Being that the closer to the end of a moons orbit, the stronger it is, its due noting that if two moons enter the end to close to each other (say Gammel's second orbit ends on the 20th and Kalicua's first ends on the 17th), the power spike remains with the biggest one. As such. It reaches intensity spikes on the 10th, 17th and 32nd days of the lunar cycle. Due to it's nature the power is severely hindered by sunlight due to solar energy obfuscating the lunar energy, As such, during day time Seth is limited to his weakest power. When The Relic is at it's weakest point, He can enter a state of transparency for a while, which allows him to hide in the shadows effectively, but upon light he would be partially visible, getting more opaque depending on the more light that is shining upon him. This state blurs himself with the dark tone of the shadows, making it easy to confuse him with something else, or even with the shadows themselves. When a moon is midway through its cycle The Relic can accumulate enough energy for small bursts of invisibility, normally lasting for just a few seconds. he also can create small visual disruptions on any shadow in a reasonable distance from him, these disruptions are typically small movements or whispers coming from the shadows. On the days in which his power spikes, he gains the ability to retain invisibility for a few minutes instead of seconds, as well as being able to control and mold the shadows to create illusions inside of them. Appearance: Seth looks the way he wishes to look, average, for what good is a thief when they stand out like a fire among the trees. He has a moderate build and stands at around 1.70 meters, he isn't very muscular nor is he absurdly skinny, normally he wears a shirt with a rough leather vest over it, pants held up by a leather belt and a long rain coat . On cold days he a wears leather and fur coat. If on a mission he will normally add a hood and a cloth to cover up some of his face. he has eyes of a dark hazel matching his hairs tone almost perfectly. his beard is kept cropped short but sometimes he'll be caught with a larger scruffy beard if the time doesn't favor him or he's in a run in which case he’d rather look the least like himself as possible. Flaws: Due to his power's lunar dependency and his “Profession” during the day Seth needs to lay low and try to seem as inconspicuous as possible, for if he gets caught in a fight or has to run, his relics powers won’t be all that much of a help. Even though Seth tries to maintain relations and be known by some as a "good guy" so that his odds of being a suspect are smaller, he is still a thief at heart and sometimes it shows, making his company suspected by some and enjoyed by others. He might be good at what he does, but he isn’t a god. He’s been caught a few times in burglaries gone wrong and has had to run away, mostly when he was still learning, as such his face is recognized in a few places, mostly a few smaller towns in Othea where people caught him stealing from them might still hold a grudge. His relic is very inconsistent at nature, due to the moons orbits, as such Seth is forced to keep track of the moons and his powers, and plan accordingly, calculating his moves. if he's caught out in a bad situation when his power is at a low or if something goes way out of plan, he's in for some trouble. He also can't resist a good ale, and he tends to go a bit overboard, which tends to make him either get a new "friend" or have him being put at very unpleasant situations, such as getting beaten up by the strongest guy in the bar for insulting his mother (he has the missing tooth to boot). **Skills:** Seth excels at burglary, due to his powers making it easier to sneak in and out unannounced, with years of training in this he’s picked up a lot of tricks. Knowing his way through a lock, and how to get around trouble makes Seth very efficient at going unnoticed and doing whatever he needs to do. he also has grown accustomed to climbing his way on building walls, knowing when he can grab onto something or not, for it’s always better to come in through a window then a door. A big part of Seth’s job is carefully planning out his way in and out of his targets house, normally scouting the house first a bit before figuring the best path and perfect timing to go in, get what he wants, and get out. Due to this he has grown very patient and strategical. Having connections with the Gellor’s Shadow (More info will probably be added in Othean Lore), has earned Seth a good source of info and help if needed. Due to this he’s very comfortable inside of Othea, in particular areas close to Amaryth, being able to get info on towns and inhabitants if needed with relative ease. **Biography:** Son of Tylmos Valmor Erin and Samantha Lorrelo Alte, Seth was born in a fairly large city inside the Kingdom of Othea. There his parents raised him to have a dignified, decent life, his father a baker and his mother a leathersmith, their life was fair, not too many luxuries but food was never missing. Seth grew up in that city, quickly becoming known in his town for his friendly demeanor and for always being there to help. Seth’s days in the city passed with relative ease, playing and enjoying life, no work. His mother would take him and a friend with her sometimes. When he reached eight his father started making Seth help him in the bakery, whenever a client ordered something to be made and delivered afterwards, Seth was the one doing the delivering, he knew his way around the village from running around playing so much that it wasn’t to much of a hassle. This went on, he got progressively more important and harder jobs until he was thirteen,he worked with his mother a few times, but at a much less regular basis, mostly helping her once a week when the bakery didn't have too many orders, at this point prices had risen fairly due to external events, and to add to that his mother was pregnant once more, months passed with less and less people buying at the bakery when Samantha gave birth, tragically she died giving birth to the girl. after that day a close friend of the family started taking care of the baby whenever both of them were at work, the money however, began running short. Seth looked for jobs and started working at a leathersmith using the experience he got from his mother’s workshop.but it wasn’t enough. A few months later, while he worked, he saw something, a ornate golden statuette laying on one of his bosses shelves. A family heirloom of his, the boss knew that one of the people he hired had his eye on it. Seth knew that it was wrong, but he couldn't help but think of how valuable that must be if he could sell it, knowing that the fault would probably fall on Enry, the boy from a poor family the boss was suspicious of. He couldn't resist, he waited for days, until the perfect moment rose up, his employer had left to talk to a disgruntled client, a woman that bought dress she claimed was flawed. and all the other people that were there had their attention set on the argument going outside. Carefully, Seth made his way unnoticed to his bosses room and hid the statue inside the pouch he used to carry his money and keys around. Slipping back to his workstation and pretending to be observing the dispute. A few days afterwards, he took the statuette he had been hiding and snuck out of his house, he headed east towards a part of the city, this area was avoided by most as it’s abandoned state, and the fact that many criminals seemed to wander there made thefts and crimes a big occurrence. But rumours have always said that that place was a meeting point for the thieves of the city, although the guards had never managed to actually catch anyone there as everyone seemed to slip away right before the guards got there. When he got there everything was mostly silent, but he heard noises coming from a shack further down the road, gulping and trying to relax himself he slowly opened the door and went in, a few heads turned towards him but most people seemed to be too busy with conversing to notice him. on one side of the building he saw a counter, an old man sat looking over the counter which had several items of different varieties, the old man had his eyes focused on Seth and signalled him to come closer. Hoping that he hadn’t somehow doom himself by coming to this place Seth walked closer and looked at the old man “What do you want youngin?” Seth held the statuette up and declared that he wished to sell it, when he did so the old man’s opened a smile and took the statuette examining it. “You’re a lucky one, if you hadn't brought me something good id probably have your head by now to be sure you never came around these parts again.” The man handed a bag of coins to Seth and took the statuette before looking at him and saying. “Look youngin , i don't know how you got here, who told you about us, but if you bring me some more stuff like this” he tapped the statuette “you might have some future here.. now. Get out” Time passed, Seth slowly slipped in bits of the money he got into his payments, so that his father didn't notice anything. With time, he had stolen some small trinkets, bits and bobs that weren’t worth much, and sold them to the man. The fence began to become more interested, and started hinting Seth towards specific places, places that contained things he wanted, and would be willing to pay more for. This went on for a long time, with the fence encouraging Seth more and more. he began stealing more expensive things as the man he discovered was called Tom began to ask him for more peculiar trinkets. The money he gained helped his family a lot, and Seth had gained a small liking for the job, so he continued. Eventually, Tom’s hints led Seth to burglaries, sneaking into houses at night to get particular items with higher pricings, he was getting better at this as time passed. in one heist in particular something happened. He was putting the contents of a jewelry box into a bag, and had reached for one particular amulet, when he felt something, it was if the darkness that surrounded him had begun moving. he looked around in panic but nothing was different. putting down his bag he looked at the amulet, opening it he saw a dense dark fog filling the amulet, and hovering inside of the amulet, three white orbs orbiting a crystal. As he watched the orbs he felt much more comfortable in the darkness, it was if he was becoming part of it. Realizing he shouldn't stay too long he got up, putting the amulet around his neck and left. It took him a week to find out that the amulet was a relic, when he almost got caught during a burglary, beginning to panic he felt the shadows moving again, but this time, he let them surround him, and when that happened, he went invisible. One night Seth was inside of the house of a more richer member of society. A businessman with connections to Amaryth, the owner was deep in his sleep and he lay on the downstairs living room, Seth was searching through whatever decorations looked the most expensive and putting them into a bag he brought with him, being careful not to get to much stuff that it could become heavy or noisy, and then, he saw something. Something that wasn’t there before, hanging from the window he came from was a note. Grabbing his bag to leave Seth opened the note and read. “Gellor has watched you work under the embrace of his fading light. You have done well and it has noticed, so have we. Meet me under the shadows of night.Where no one honest dares to walk” Seth stood there for a moment looking at the paper, confused, “where no one honest dares to walk” That was the sign that Tom had hanged on his counter ever since a few months ago. Assuming that was what the letter talked about he left the house and started heading towards the shack. On Arrival, the store was closed, but A voice from inside beckoned him in. opening the door and walking in he saw no one, and yet a voice spoke to him from somewhere. “Hello Seth” “What? Who’s there?” he said turning around “Don’t talk, not for now, for now, Listen.” as the voice said this, Seth finally saw the origin of the voice, a figure stood in the shadows, with dark clothes that made it hard to differentiate him from the shade that surrounded him. a cowl covered his face and he wore a coat. “The shadows have watched you for longer then you can imagine Seth” “You have potential, lot’s of it. Which is just what we need. And we have connections, connections that can.. let’s say.. make sure the guards turn the other way in case you get caught.” At that point the shadow pulled out a chair and sat, signalling Seth to do the same “We want to take you into The Shadows, train you to your full potential, and protect you.. in exchange, you help us” At that time Seth opened his mouth to speak but a stern look from the stranger made it obvious he wasn't to talk yet. “Our goal.. what you’ll help us with, I think you can agree is important, and I feel like you’ll embrace it happily.. In his years of training he met several people, some trainees like him and some official Shadows, he also met an old man which everyone referred to as The Gatekeeper, not much was known about him, but he visited the temple several times, he oversaw some of the training when he was there but mostly reserved to the thirty-two Shadows. After around four years of training, one night he received a visit, Theylon, the same man that recruited him to the group. This man told Seth that a spot opened within the thirty-two, and that it was decided that He would be accepted into the Shadows. **Name:** Roan Adonis **Age:** 30 **Gender:** Male **Faction/Allegiance:** Kalesian Empire though now he’s been declared an enemy of the Empress and will find no friends among their ranks now. **Relic Description:** A simple [bangle](https://img1.etsystatic.com/034/0/8676750/il_570xN.513093371_amp7.jpg) resting in the upper portion of his left arm. It is seemingly made from pure silver with two wolves facing each other, their teeth pulled up into a snarl and slightly tribal in design. When it was placed on, he found he was unable to remove it and slightly hopes one day he might be able to find a way to do so. The bad part is that this ability can only be triggered several ways: - Hunger - Emotional Stress like Fear, Pain, Discomfort, and etc. - Scent or Sight of Blood (Close enough for human senses) However when he gains control of his mind, including emotions or full fill his need, he can choose either to remain in the form or discard it. When fully transformed, he’s able to stand upright at 6’4” in height and hunch over for a dead out run on all fours. His senses and abilities are enhanced within this form giving him an edge over most humans when faced in direct combat. However there are two modes for this shape. The first one is what he usually access and milder of the two, the only threat is that the longer he remains in it the more his humanity seems to fade making it slightly hard to control his natural instincts and bloodlust. It’s easily reversed when he shifts back. After he returns, Roan finds he has an immediate appetite for raw, fresh and bloody meat. This is likely his relic’s price for energy and tends to affect him the longer he denies it. The second is his Moon form. There’s little distinction between the two in appearance save for the glowing red eyes and enlarged bulk to about horse size, it’s his mind set and power which has drastically been affected. As if fed by the cycles of Gammel, every night at the moon’s peak he becomes more beast than human and an aggressive streak he struggles to control. This form seems to be fed purely by the Gammel moon’s power as it’s only during this time Roan’s ever going to access it-he doesn't know its existence yet. (I need the GMs-which I need to know who to send it to-help on this strictly for balance purposes, so I'll be sending a pm over it with the secrets.) _Senses_ *Sight: Roan’s night and day vision are far superior to average humans when it comes to spotting movement, even the slightest one in his peripheral vision is enough to draw his attention and alert him to a presence. This makes it very difficult to sneak up on him at any given moment. Due to his combination of both human and wolf traits, his eyes sight can focus and zoom in on details up to a range of 3-4 miles from his location though farther out they become hazy and difficult to sharpen. *Scent: His nose is extremely powerful, about 100 times greater than his human counterpart, allowing him to absorb all scents up to 2 miles all the way around him. Due to his form’s dependence on smell, he can easily pick out and identify each single scent within moments before storing them away. Sometimes he can tell details like what the subject might be carrying (food, herbs, tanned leather usually can be associated with belts, leather armor, and anything which gives off a notable scent), health, who they might’ve encountered (if he’s met the scent before), emotions, condition (wounded, poisoned, ect), estimate of time passed when they were there, and more. The bad part is he might not always like smelling it. *Hearing: Besides his nose, his ears are the next most powerful sense. It’s at least 16 times stronger than a human’s, enabling him to hear as far as six miles away in a forest like environment and ten miles in open country. This includes some pitches far beyond the average human’s hearing range of 20 kHz, like rodents under a snow pack or the range of bats (Empire equivalent) and by swaying his ears side to side, he can easily locate the source easily. The area which the sound is loudest determines the direction. *Taste: His taste is slightly lacking making anything an easier meal to swallow down, his jaws are capable of applying enough pressure to shatter and crush the thickest bone which in the human body easily. Thick and sharp fangs can tear, rip and cut through steel of similar thickness with some effort. Once latched on, it might be hard to make him let go and almost always will leave a bite. *Touch: His feet bottoms are protected by thick, rough pads which prevent tearing into the soles and allow him to cover long distances either running flat out or in a dog trot pace. Few things will pierce the tough skin though a blade will certainly cut it. His shaggy fur gives him a larger appearance, including warmth and protection from the elements, while also make him far more intimidating. _Physical_ *Regeneration: Continually on, Roan can take much more damage than a normal human. However he still suffers from blood loss, stamina usage and depending on the wound’s gravity, the ability to heal varies. This doesn’t save him from decapitation or penetrating into the heart which is an instant kill for him without a way to regenerate. Fractures, dislocations and a few inch deep slices heal in minutes, first stifling the bleeding then sealing the skin back to its original state. Broken bones and partly severed limbs/tendons will take 1-2 hours to heal and mend; their usefulness lessens due to their crippled state. Limbs or organs can’t be regrown or reattached if lost, which any missing pieces will be on his human form as well. However due to the rate of healing it’s rather difficult to accomplish. *High Endurance: Roan in this form has extreme endurance and stamina traits. At a trot, 7 mph speed, he can travel for up to a week over a wide range of territory and breaking only a few hours a day to sleep. It’s not a surprise he can also go days without food, showing only a small shrinking in muscle definition, then turn around to gore on the first meal he manages to catch and not have to eat for several more. In addition he can endure long hours, up to a day max, in continuous combat. Not even blood loss or no sleep will show signs of slowing down; however this is mainly due to the adrenaline coursing through his veins. Once the fight is over, weakness will all come rushing to him on the spot. *Strength: Easily able to break bone, cut through steel, and lift the weight of a stallion draft horse over his head and toss the poor creature several yards with great aim at a target. *Speed: Reflexes are fast and accurate within in close range, able to counter and react against most attacks in a level completely inhuman. Any normal human would find it impossible to stand in a hand to hand combat and in a fair match with Roan during this state, often the opponent torn to shreds fairly quickly. He can strike as fast as a cobra in short, aimed bursts at a time making it difficult to counter the rapid movements and often better to dodge. When it comes to running, his speed is up to 25 mph, and can reach 45 mph for a minute or two if needed for short bursts. *Claws: Retractable for either close range combat or running, his claws are rather resiliently to breaking despite whatever the strength of the surface he comes in contact with. Flesh, blood, bone and steel are easy victims to its lethal edge though substances harder than those might take more effort on his part. *High Jumping ability: Due to his strength and well developed back legs, Roan can leap to heights normally inaccessible to his human form. Able to reach up to 10 yards above him even with the weight of two full grown adults in his grip, Roan can easily leap to ledges, platforms, across gaps, ect. with some ease. On first impression, Roan tends to give an aura of a patient and easy going sort of man whose military past has left him scarred physically and even a bit mentally. He’s viewed as a slender, lean muscled man compared to others rivaling his height of 5’9”. So it’s little surprise he’s never seen carrying much on his person other than needed survival items and his clothes. His style is simple, comfortable and travel designed in mind. However, depending on the weather, his garb will change. Normally and mostly spring-summer, he wears a simple, thin cotton shirt with a v-shaped neck and tied loosely in a crisscross pattern from the base of his chest to just inches shy of his collar bone. The sleeves are often rolled up to his elbows and being a few sizes too big, hangs off his thinner frame and a few inches past his hips to cover his belt. Attached to it is a small knife, his medicine pouch with flint, a little money bag securely fastened and water skin. He wears breeches made from animal skin and fitting tightly to his thin figure, their ends vanished into large travel worn boots that seemed to have seen better days. Winter, he normally wears a faded, heavy hooded cloak made from cotton through it is rather thin in key areas. His thin shirt is covered over by a thicker tunic, usually grey or black, which only worsens his baggy appearance. His boots are furred and thicker, able to push through several feet of snow without being soaked completely through until a few hours have passed. The inner layers are additional warmth with softer white fur which while his winter wears is not in use, all of it is folded up and inside his bed roll securely. No matter in the winter or summer wear, there’s a few stains here and there on his outfit and to add to the fact he looks like a wild man, his shirt looks as if it has been stitched several times in various places by an unskilled seamstress making his looks even more sloppy. His spear is strapped to his back and with a quick flick of his hand, can be released at a moment’s notice. However his first go to weapon would be his long bow and quiver of arrows, also on his back and secured there within easy reach. Though it’s not stated above, he does still have his armor from when he fled, at least the breast plate. Usually in larger cities and towns he will put it on under his shirt for extra protection in case matters turn rather messy. *Before anyone asks, just for the sake of keeping this PG13 and still realistic, skin tight clothes transform with him. Namely his pants...the same can’t be said about his shirt or boots. **Flaws:** - Moon disease (inherited only and rare): Weakened immune system (though not as bad as when he was a child) compared to most healthy individuals which he tries to control with specialized herbs and avoiding the sick, successful to date at least. However if he misses his dose, burned them and inhale the vapors every ten days, Roan’s immune system will slowly revert back to its original state as a child. At first it would be minor. A slight cough here and there, fever, etc. However, the longer it is before he resumes his medicine then the worse the symptoms become, escalating into coughing up blood, limb weakness or paralyzation and much worse, death itself. As long as he has his herbs this weakness is the least of his worries. - In his common form his strength falls below a normal man, while he can still haul heavy loads and weapons, their weight drains his stamina much quicker. On top of that he’s easily made sore from the strenuous active, especially being repeated over long times. - Roan tends to plan for the future better than the present. His spur of the moment reactions never end in the way it should which can lead to some very awful consequences when he’s catch up in a lie. Mostly its why he tries to use a fraction of the truth within his lies, even if they aren’t very good. - Roan’s a slow learning when it comes to something new. Depending on the complexity, elements involved, and if they are in any relation to something he already knows it could take anywhere from a few hours to days to weeks to months and even years to learn it. If has elements he’s familiar with, like one of his skills sets, he tries to draw on those in order to speed the process up. If there’s no element he knows, then it’s likely going to take much longer. Though once started on it, he will persist and once learned it will never leave. Ever. However it could, depending on use, take a bit of time for him to recollect things but once it is, it’s smooth running from there. - Knows little about his relic save for the requirements to activate it and the fact he has an unexplained desire for raw meat (which is what his Relic mainly draws on). Another flaw is the fact he can’t remove it, feeling slightly out of control when he considers the effect and slightly bitter to it. Skills: - Survivalist and talented with stubborn animals, namely in taming and earning their respect. - He has great speed and stamina, namely to make up for his lacking strength. He’s able to battle for long periods of time without tiring compared to his fellow soldiers as well as quicker reflexes. This more than more makes up for his weakness when it comes to direct brute strength and locking horns. - Due to his ability to tame certain aggressive animals (mostly those within the Empire), he’s been able to ride a Mauler mount and wield his spear in the Empire cavalry. Roan’s even able to shoot while his Mauler was in full charge, managing to often hit his target and wound them if they aren’t armored. He knows the large bearlike creature’s range and terrain preference as well as its top speed and weight capabilities without testing it. - Roan excels in spear combat, knowing the weapons weaknesses and strengths well enough. He also has a bit of knowledge in archery enough to hit a target at a fair distance. However his dagger skills are namely the basics should his target get too close,a last resort if they get past his spear, through his skill and practice makes him more of an intermediate then a skilled fighter with it. - Roan’s inherited two traits which go fairly decently hand in hand, his father’s wanderlust and his mother’s survivalist skills. The latter was adapted to wandering in the woods since she was a little girl and when Roan started to gain strength, she took both boys out to experience and learn the ways of nature. What to eat, look for direction, and how they could survive on what they could find. - Roan’s got a talent to see the character and potential in people so he rarely judges on sight alone. Merely watches and observes at first. He can gain a good sense of their characters within a few interactions, his instincts rarely wrong though they might not have a physical basis for it. Like how some animals can view the merit of humans on first greeting. Whether he likes or dislikes you will depend on his interaction with you. For those he enjoys and gains a positive sense from, he tends to be open and honest around them as much he can. However on the other side of the spectrum, those he distrusts usual make him uncomfortable and Roan tends to often slip into the dubbed silent type. Answering only when it is needed. Often his instinct can fail with people he’s met before because knowing them on a personal level tends to create conflict between his head and heart which accounts for ill choices he might make. Namely because he wants to trust them but his instinct might know better than do so. **Biography:** Born from a union in worship between a visiting Quaesitor and simple farm girl, a young seventeen year old from the Kalesia river lands, Angus’s and Roan’s origins were merely a one time thing which left their mother pregnant with twins. It seemed like the ultimate blessing in her eyes to have two beautiful children to call her own, even without a father to help them grown up. At first, once cleaned up, both boys looked to be spitting images of their father from the dark hair to the rich skin color and faded brown eyes. Sadly that changed. Within a year of Roan’s birth, he was discovered to have inherited a rare disease called Moon Sickness. It attacked his immune system and made him bedridden until he was eight, not because his muscles were affected but the effort to stand caused him to cough up blood each time. In the eight years which followed, like others plagued with the disease, his complexion paled to appear as if he was kissed by moonlight rather than the sun. His once mysterious dark eyes paled to bright blue, skin paled from its rich, healthy color and his short black hair became almost white. In a few months strangers found it hard to believe his mother, dark haired and sun touched, was really related by blood. Since he was easily sickened by any minor childhood illness and its effect far worse because of his condition, his mother had limited any contact to a small group: mostly his mother, Angus and the healers who attended him. Fortunate a few children trained to inherit their parents’ skills so his experience might’ve been limited, but not alienated. He was considered lucky. His mother had caught the signs early or else he might’ve not reached his second birthday as most children didn’t show traits until they were racked with illness and well on their way to the grave. Though most believe he would never be freed of his bed, it was a fact Roan had sought to prove wrong though it took his patience and determination to succeed. While he grew stronger, his mother shared the stories their father had told her with Angus and him. Though Roan knew how fondly she seemed to think of their father, Angus was clearly bitter who often exited the room when he’d had enough of it. It saddened Roan a bit and though he was weak, often the boy would try to connect with his older twin. Instead, it seemed Angus saw him more as a burden and even back then, Roan had ignored the jealousy deep within the boy’s dark eyes followed by Angus's half-hearted interactions to please their mother. It slowly developed in a slight rivalry and shortly, rough brotherly love in a way. During this time, Roan’s instincts persisted but again he overlooked them. The brothers were night and day in many ways, even with the few similarities and connection they shared. For six years, Roan was unable to help with any heavy labor though he had started to edge more often from his bed which felt more like a prison then comfort. His body was usually recovering from one illness or another he had caught, unable to lift anything remotely heavy without going into a spasm of blood coughing and so Angus as well as mother had picked up the slack. It easy to see how his brother could resent him then. Time to time, his mother would take a few hours from her work to teach her children the ways of the wilderness within the river lands. They would stalk animals to observe, learning their habits and ways, and often hunted for edible plants to expand their meals. Other little tricks were how to create a dense shelter or make a fire’s smoke less visible, so not scare away the animals, by using certain wood types. There was little the two didn’t learn when it came to living on the land, their home on the outer edges of the southwest where the border between west and south was. It wasn’t until Roan and Angus became seven when things quickly change. Unknown to the boys, their father had returned to the village and influence their mother’s decision to move to the city where she was told it would be better. Being strong enough to survive the trip, Roan’s mother sold her farmland to a neighbor and packed up what little belongs they could carry on the back of the wagon then headed towards a city. Mariam Adonis used her skills as a cook, something she improved on since she had to create appetizing dishes from what was on hand, not an easy thing, had gotten her employment. Over the next three years, each new employer had edged her family closer and closer to the capital city. Roan and Angus had grown being use to the dull habit of traveling from place to place, their belongs rarely unpack and able to be place at a moment’s notice, their hopes were never high when it came to staying in one place. Even when a noble, Valerie Rezalla-Dahmsion, had taken up their mother’s employment. At this time in the twin’s lives, both Angus and Roan had been introduced to reading, writing, a few different languages, and slight higher education then they would’ve had in their origins. However Roan had taken much longer to learn then Angus, finally caught up with Angus’s level when he turned ten. This made his older twin often tease or poke fun at Roan, who patiently tolerated it with surprising ease. Even as a child Roan seemed more mature than he should’ve been. He first met young Alessia Rezalla-Rhidian when she caught him in the kitchens. Naturally the servant’s children weren’t allowed there and though from time to time he was granted some minor tasks, market shopping to laundry, to earn his own coin, Roan wasn’t officially employed. The only reason he was there was because Roan had forgotten his medicine the night before and spent most the night coughing up specks of blood. This alone was a reason enough for his mother to keep him closer by. It however didn't prevent her from her duties as the noble woman's cook and made it impossible to watch him continuously. He should’ve been laying in his cot yet Roan had managed to make his mother see his views and allowed him to tag along. Of course, the possible would be noble brat had decided to blackmail him when they collided together while she was sneaking out. Afraid his mother would lose her job, he took Alessia on a less used way out of the kitchens, namely for servants, onto the streets. Sadly afterwards he became a self-made guardian for the younger girl which annoyed him greatly. It was just the start of a few adventures in the two years to follow. At least until his middle teens when their last one had ended rather abruptly and in a way neither was prepared for. Angus had been the one to catch Roan, the boy trying to sneak out without drawing attention. After some pressing and blocking tactics, Angus had forced Roan to admit his current intentions and though the younger twin pleaded for silence, Angus had broken his word the moment Roan had left. Half way through their adventure, Roan had spotted one of the Empire Guard stalking them in the marketplace and quickly snatched Alessia’s hand to flee. It was a difficult chase through the crowded place. In the trip, Roan had shoved his young warden into a nearby shop and attracted the guard’s attention. Alessia escaped. Roan wasn’t so lucky, cornered in a dead end alley he was herded into. His skills at defending himself with little training and the fact he showed promise throughout the chase had gained a recruit’s attention. The very man, edging to retirement age of 45, had escorted Roan home while the others sought out the ‘girl’ rumored to be Alessia Rezalla-Rhidian. Of course they were quickly dismissed when she was found safe and sound back in her own room. After being returned to his mother, the recruiter highly hinted she edge Roan towards joining the Empire’s military, namely into a camp since he wasn’t of recruiting age yet. She was hesitating at first, frightened Roan’s sickness would become worse. Angus used his clever tongue to seal Roan’s fate however. Hugging and crying, he watched his mother and Angus pack his things before they bid him farewell and he was left to follow the recruiter. Traveling north, they arrived weeks later to an old, crumbling camp of sorts. Many boys, from the age of ten to fifteen, were active in their daily duties and play that made Roan’s eyes widen in amazement to see so many. Shortly he was pushed into the hands of the caretaker, Bartholomew, who introduced both orphans and children like Roan toward military service in order to serve the Empress. Many loyal soldiers had been created using this old method, Combat Camp as the children brought in started to call it. and this place was only one of many established ones in the northern areas. Its origins is a mystery and likely to stay one for many more years to come. It was here Roan had discovered his talents, learned new skills and earned a sense of comradely in service to the most valuable vessel of their Goddess, the Empress herself. After he turned sixteen, he was assigned to basic training which lasted four years. During this time, he was assessed, studied and his training both reinforced as well as new skills learned to fit his future. After calming and taming a particularly wild Mauler mount, he was assigned to serve within that key unit whose job was to support the established authorities all over Kalesis. It was keep their skills from growing jaded during times of peace as well as possibly deter any aggression before it had grown into a wildfire. Sometimes an image or symbol, namely one well known for power, was enough to establish peace. For Roan’s wanderlust, it meant a wonderful life of traveling all over his nation’s lands. His commanders had hoped his displayed talent for seeing an intense situation, calming disputes and preventing bloodshed would aid in quelling budding conflict before it became violent. Mostly they roamed the roads picking off bandits or escorting merchants through wilderness. In the tens to follow Roan had seen many situations play out. From minor conflicts to flat out killing and murder, Roan has experience many forms of violence or suffering. Some of it made him regrettably capable of taking a life if needed while some he learned to trust his instincts. Over the years he had gained the respect and loyalty of his fellow soldiers, including his commander. So it was little surprise when their unit had gained information they would be visited by an Quaesitor who would evaluate each of them, a fact which could’ve led up to nobility if the potential had been seen. There was something Roan hadn’t expected. The Quaesitor was none other than his own twin brother, Angus. Both were clearly shocked on their first meeting, and despite Angus’s eye being covered over by a patch, Roan could tell it was him. Naturally, Angus quickly covered his own surprise with a business like air. For the first month or so, Angus didn’t show much of any warmth to his brother despite Roan’s forgiveness at his betrayal. After nearly a month and a half, some of the ice on Angus’s pride melted between them and again they seemed to be the brothers they once were. It only lasted a few weeks after that when Roan’s instincts kicked in. They were ordered to keep near the Karak Claw Mountains for a while, every few towns or cities they had come to, Angus would shift off on Quaesitor business which often lead the dark haired man to the nearest tavern. Little did Roan realize that his brother was delivering Empire Intel given to him to those outside their nation, twisted up into a much thicker plot against the Empress. It was only when Roan couldn’t stand the buzzing something was wrong did he follow Angus one night into a tavern, his pale form hidden under his hooded cloak. It was difficult but he managed to get close enough to eavesdrop on the snatches of conversation. In seconds, any possible color in his skin faded when he learned his brother was a traitor. Angus and his associate’s business concluded, a sack and a message were pushed into Angus’s procession just before he moved to leave. Of course Angus’s eyes flickered with knowing when he spotted Roan’s figure at the bar. Angus had met Roan halfway to the military’s set up camp before he tried to gauge what Roan knew, his hand forced when he discovered his paler twin knew far too much. The two tangled. Angus gained the upper hand and during the struggle, had seized a silver bangle from his package to strengthen his punch and hopefully crack open Roan’s head. Roan shifted enough to protect his head with his arm and snap, the bangle attached itself on his upper arm. Not knowing the importance of this, Roan used the moment of stillness from Angus to kick the man away from him. Heat and ice poured into Roan’s veins when the relic took control. His body cracked and shifted, fur sprouted where clothes torn into shreds leaving him a monster standing ready to kill his own brother. Angus starts to laugh in madness while he reached for his eye patch then pulled away to reveal a stone eye in place of where his real one had been. At the end of the next clash, Roan was thrown and immediately impaled on a tree’s cleared branch and a few feet above the ground. At first glimpse, Roan seemed dead so Angus returned to retrieve his blade. A snap of a twig caused him to twirl around to Roan’s body had vanished, bloody paw like hand scaled down and darted into the woods. Slight stunned by the item now on his flesh he starts to shift. It’s now, Angus is revealed to be an evoker as well, his eyes patch pulled back to reveal a stone eye embedded into his socket. The two clashed until Roan was sent back and ‘impaled’ on his spear, the point entered and exited through what seemed like his chest. Angus smirked and turned about to recover his weapon, confident his troubles were over. Snap. His eyes widened to see Roan’s crumbled body had vanished and a blood trail led off towards the mountains, disappearing into the night. Since then, Roan’s been on the run for two weeks making his way to Othea while using his wolf form to cover far distances in a short time. It wouldn’t be a surprise if his large wolf form had attracted some unwanted attention though he tried to keep away from the roads weaving into Othea’s capital, a faint hope to escape those who hunt him and seek out aid within the capital. His head filled with betrayal and in his grasp, evidence to a hidden plot which could threaten the Empire and the Empress herself. However Angus had fabricated a believable story that Roan attacked him and he is the traitor to the Empire, the fact he is now an evoker neglected in Angus’s story in hopes Roan would be killed on sight rather than taken alive. Personality/motivation: A few of Roan’s best qualities are his patience, easy going personality, social nature and empathy when his instincts allow it. Sadly due to a mixture of his relic’s influence and recent events, his mindset can affect his personality depending on the situation and conditions. One example is his patience. Unless he’s hungry and hadn’t had raw meat for a long time after transforming, his usual endless patience and easy going attitude becomes aggressive. Like an irritated wolf. This trait is mostly directed at males though Roan often won’t realize it until someone brings it to his attention. Most the time he pretends the changes aren’t there, a sort of self-denial, to make himself believe everything will come out alright in the end. Too bad a part of him doesn’t believe it. With people he’s comfortable around, he’s social and mildly chatty while being as honest as he sees harmless. However if a question he rather not answer pops up, he’ll grow quiet and inwardly determine the risk before he gives an answer. Sometimes a vague answer but lately with him being hunted, Roan had been forced to create half-truths and lies. Something he’s not very good at. However he’s completely the opposite when in the presence of strangers and people he dislikes. Mostly he becomes withdrawn and quiet, speaking as little as needed. Roan also is hard to anger. Most times it takes a physical assault or one of his ‘pack’ members being mistreated in any degrading or violent manner by others. When angry, he snarls like a wild animal and his voice deepens into an unnatural tone between beast and man. Three things drive Roan. The most important thing is figuring out his brother’s traitorous motivations and how it will affect the Empire, namely driven by his fears of how deep the plot runs within the Kalesian Empire and who might be involved. These last two also are the only things stopping Roan from turning himself into the military. If he trusted the wrong person it could cost him not just his life, but any information he currently holds. The second thing is his need to discover how to coop with his relic, either in controlling it or releasing himself from its iron grip. Though any information about it hasn’t quite been able to make it into his hands yet. Lastly is his wanderlust however its origins or cause is unknown. Is it friends or a 'pack'? A home? A mate? Or something much worse? Roan knows it could be anything and part of him can guess, though he will never know until he finds it. If he ever does. Relations: 1. Father- Jonas Garite 2. Relic Description: A pair of gauntlets, with a special, unknown black dye over a strange metal, interlocking pieces like scale or a strange chain-link. The palms and fingers are open to the air, and it appears that the gauntlets are a little large at first, but then fit to one's fingers unless they have want to take them off. Ridges line the fingers, and there are spikes on each knuckle, presumably for hitting. The gloves whisper that the metal type, such as plate or chain link, is called 'chaen.' Gives the Chosen manipulation of lightning and energy, from the gloves. The gloves essentially allow the wearer to summon energy up into a bolt of lightning, just a constant stream of weak bolts to make up a sort of lightning-thrower, or an actual powerful bolt that could send a man flying. Obviously, it doesn't have an unlimited supply. As the Chosen becomes more familiar the more powerful the bolts are, and the faster the 'mana' in the gloves regenerates. Because the electricity is simply summoned and then directed, it isn't technically magical lightning- that means it isn't magical, and anti-magic spells or the like do not work against it. Skills: Endurance, Fighting [Sword, sword-shield, or hand-to-hand, calvary], Strong too the point of easily wielding a sword or two, and horse-riding, among various other skills related to swordfighting and the like. Very good rider; prefers calvary and a long awlpike than any other weapon, besides dual swords for on-foot purposes. Background: The son of a reclusive Blademaster. Because he never really had a mother, and his father was a never-show-weakness, he's grown up proud, and defiant to showing weakness. His father first taught him to read, with fairy tales and histories and all kinds of things, but his real interest was always focused on the powerful dragons, the great beasts that would soar through the air and rain destruction upon its foes. As a little boy, he swore that if dragons were real and he got the chance to meet one, or even to kill one, sadly, he would take it. When his father had trouble teaching him the points of fighting and battle, and learned of Myth's love of dragons, he told him: "Let me teach you the blade, so that you can someday meet one, through sun or storm, through army or meadow." After that, he trained and aspired to not only meet a dragon, but become a Blademaster like his father. And he never learned his father's name, either. His mother had left him a note that his father gave to him on his 20th birthday, with two words on it: His name. His father always called him "Myth Dragon" after learning of his love of dragons, because it was a constant source of amusement that his son wished so dearly for the myth of Dragons. So this relic makes Garet quite the tactician and strategist. But the downside is he hears all of their voices inside his head, their thoughts are his thoughts, his memories are now their memories. And the Iron band uses this as well to it's advantage. The Band requires a constant feed of memories to it and it stores these memories like a bank, if not fed it will take memories and replace them with the memories of some stored into the ring. Giving those who wield it new memories comes at quite the shock, but if the wielder is not careful, it can make him forget himself. Skills: Garet is a master of the blade the blade is an extension of his arm and he is known as a master of death with it, he's a fair shot with a bow and arrow, and even though he is trained in mounted combat he prefers to walk. Biography: Born to parents that were either too poor or didn't care about him, Garet was abandoned, left on the steps of the Goddess' Sanctuary shortly after being born, who willingly took him in. The next six years he spent in that sanctuary along with other orphans and foundlings, being given the rudimentary education and upbringing any child deserved according to the priests and priestesses. A priestess named Alvera took the boy under her wing, teaching the boy how to set up the altar of the Goddess and to care for his fellow man, as well as some on how to care for the sick and bandage wounds. It was in the shadow of the goddess’ holy symbol that the boy learned about faith. He couldn’t read the Holy scripture, but he didn’t need to in order to understand that she truly cared for him. His belief in the goddess made Garet the man he is today, transforming him from a child into a believer in honor and fair treatment. What he learned at the sanctuary formed the foundations of who Garet is. He was ready and willing to devote his life to the sanctuary, but fate had something else in store for him. A lord and lady, sadly unblessed by the goddess with children of their own came to the sanctuary seeking to follow the time-honored imperial tradition of adoption. Alvera spoke on the boy’s behalf, speaking highly of him hoping to get him the future she thought he deserved. Likewise, other priests and priestesses spoke highly of other children, but in the end, the lord and lady chose Garet, taking him home with them. Discarding the name the sanctuary had given him, the boy took on his adoptive fathers last name. His father gave the boy a tutor, who taught him the two ways of reading and writing, the first way was simple and for civilian use, the second way was so the boy can get into more advanced writings and academics. Both seemed to help the boy grow, but the boy did not have the head for scholars’ writing. When the boy reached his tenth birthday the lord interfered directly and started teaching the boy how to fight. First with his hands, then with sticks and finally with training blades. When the boy reached twelve years old his father sent away to a military academy for proper training with some of the best instructors to be had anywhere. The military academy ran Garet through the ringer. There seemed to be no rest no end to the training. Every day he woke up with a new bruise and a new ache, a new round of studying resumed. The boys and girls within his class were expected to learn not only how to fight, but also the finer details of combat tactics and battlefield logistics. Following each theory lesson was a physical session and visa versa. It was in these lessons that Garet showed a marked preference and aptitude for the much more flexible leather armor and the glaive, but the boy still practiced the sword on the side. After a year, one of the instructors took a personal interest in Garet and taught the boy how to master the blade. Garet made it his weapon of choice, even though he keeps his glaive close by. One thing he has learned is that it never hurts to have an extra option. His academy training lasted until the boy was a man of seventeen years, and he only returned home a few days each year, often being taken away from the academy for months at a time to train in the field. When the academy released him from its ranks, he came home for good, but that proved short-lived, as he missed the army life and formally joined the military a few months later. On his 18th birthday the boy left home and the academy for life in the military, posted on the border with Kalnach near the field of bones. Even though he never stood out from other junior officers, his superiors soon ensured that he found himself leading small patrols into the field of bones. They also sent him on patrols into the nearby villages, dealing with petty disputes and searching for Kalnachi spies. Occasionally they would deal with small bandit packs and little groups of outlaws, but that was always uneventful. The Border was quiet the whole time, with neither Kalnach nor the Empire willing to commit to a full-scale war, satisfied with sitting quietly watching each other and running minor skirmishes. Whenever he was granted a small amount of leave he returned home to his family, for though he enjoyed army life, he also missed his family. It was here where he met his future wife, Iceni. He fell in love with her on first sight. When he glimpsed her, he knew he had to get close to her, but was afraid to do so. That was the only time Garet had ever felt real fear since the earliest lessons at the academy. When he walked towards her, he made a fool of himself knocking people over and tripping over his feet, so her first impression of him was not very flattering. Many would have thought him a drunkard. Fortunately, she realized he was not a drunkard, but was actually just a clumsy fool. She thought his appearance comely and wasn’t used to men tripping over themselves trying to woo her. What exactly prompted her to give him a chance he never figured out, but give him a chance she did. Garet spent most of his spare time trying to win her heart. It took him a good while to do so, but by the time he did it, he had mere days left before he had to return to the Field of Bones. Garet spent most of the next year on the border, rarely having time to return home to his beloved, but he took every chance he could to do so, for he missed his beloved Iceni deeply. When he could not visit, he sent messages and letters, continuing his courtship despite believing he had won her heart. Though the army was strict, they would not dare to offend the goddess by keeping lovers apart. When he, upon an extended patrol in the field of bones found a ring, he saw it as a sign from the goddess. He contacted his immediate superiors, giving them his reasons for requesting leave. As loyal servants of the Empress and firm believers in the Goddess, they did not hesitate to grant it to him. Not truly sure he had won her heart, he dared not propose till he was sure. He wooed her for several weeks more before proposing. She made his every dream come true by accepting. As was tradition for couples that were to be wedded, each had to do a task for the family of the other to prove their love and commitment. What Iceni had to do he did not know, but Garet had to craft a sword that would live up to his soon-to-be father-in-law’s standards. As he was no trained smith, that was no easy feat. Garet had learned the basics of smithing in the past, but crafting a high-quality sword was no easy feat. For two weeks, he barely left the forge at all, eating and sleeping therein. His persistence was such that eventually several of the master smiths in the city took pity on him, giving him the advice he needed to finish the task. The sword he presented to Iceni’s father was of the utmost quality, not on the level of a master smith, but far above that of an amateur. With both their tasks complete, the priests and priestesses performed the formal marriage ceremony, which turned into a celebration for more than half the city. It was, after all, not every month someone in the local nobility married. In irony, it turned out that his father-in-law had all along intended to gift him with the blade, which was precisely why he had so high demands for it. His father-in-law would not have the defender of his daughter have anything but the best. To this day, Garet keeps the weapon at his side, using it both in his duties and as a testament to his will. Garet had presented Iceni with the ring he had found upon the border during the marriage ceremony. She in turn had presented him with a ring of her own. Unlike the work she usually did, which was intricate and often nearly ornate, the ring she gave him was quite plain. It was a narrow band of gray Iron, angled cuts on the sides. Despite the plainness, it was clear it was of the highest craftsmanship. She said it had been in her family for untold generations. He had felt truly honored by such a gift. The moment he put it on, he felt an odd sort of tingle he could not quite place. He had shaken it off as nerves then, but over the next few days, especially during their very private honeymoon and marriage consummation, he had begun to have strange thoughts. Thoughts of ancient days and battles long past. He had not known what to make of it at first, trying to make sense of why he was suddenly thinking of old academy lessons. With each new day, he began to make more and more sense of those battles, seeing patterns he had never before seen. He had not shared his sudden revelations with his wife, somehow knowing she would not understand. By the time their honeymoon was over and he had to return to his duties on the border, he had gained a considerably better understanding of ancient tactics, some of them centuries, if not eons old. Once back on the border, he had more time to think on the revolutionary combat theories. Some he used when commanding the small patrols he led, others he brought to his immediate superiors. The end result was a much more effective border control. At first, that was all that happened. But eventually notice of this moved higher up in the chain of command, inevitably ending up in the hands of someone who knew more, someone well-versed in ancient history. Someone who recognized the ancient tactics for what they were and what it meant. Within two days of that connection being made, he had been brought before the regional commander and the personal representative of the Empress, may she live forever. They told him exactly what had to be going on, eventually helping him figure out that the ring had to be a relic and that he had become an evoker. He was immediately assigned to a special training regimen to not only ensure that he could use his relic properly, but that he was utterly loyal to the Empress, may she live forever. The first round of evoker training only barely finished in time for him to come home for the predicted birth time for his firstborn. In fact, she was born the night after he got back home. In their many letters they had arrived on the name of Shara. Prior to going home, he had submitted a request for his wife and child to be permitted to join him in the capital. He got notice of the permission being granted just two days after the birth. Her shock upon discovering the truth of her family’s minor heirloom was palpable. At first she had been miffed about him not explaining earlier, but understood that he had wanted to do so in person. She was overjoyed at the fact that he would be playing such an important part in the empire and that would live in the Capital. After they made it to their new home, the three of them celebrated alone before he returned to his duty. Eventually Garet’s training completed. As befitted an Imperial evoker of talents like his, he had to move around many times, going where his abilities could benefit the empire the most. When going up against minor things like bandits and outlaws, she sometimes came along, but more often she stayed in their home in the capital. He was on a longer assignment in a more dangerous zone, having been away for many months when an imperial messenger reached him with the notification that he was going to be a father once more. When those news spread around the camp, a small celebration was formed and there was much happiness despite the grim nature of their assignment. He did not know whether it was chance or something else, but the next day the relic granted him a particularly devious tactic, letting him crush the opposition in one fell swoop. As he was a god-fearing man, his commanding officer sent him home to be with his wife during the final weeks of her pregnancy. The commander did not have any fair reason to keep him there in any case. Arriving home he found that his second child, a son, had already been born. However, Iceni had waited for Garet to return before naming the child. Together they named him Elyias. Having received word that their parents truly wanted to have more time with their grandchildren, they both put in a request to imperial command to be allowed to move back there. It took very little time for the request to be granted, provided he make himself available for assignments in the future. In the Empire, it was common belief that none should mess with family. It simply wasn’t done. For nine years Garet let his sword hang upon the wall, keeping to practice blades for his exercises. His days were spent as much helping his father-in-law craft blades and tools as it was dictating his tactics to a scribe, for though he had learned much in his years, he still could not compose scholars’ script. During these years time they both lived happily, having another child after a few years, naming her Lyra, as well as running a flourishing shop in their home city. The Iron Band, his relic, was not satisfied with this complacency. It wanted more. With each year of idleness, it lashed out more and more frequently, absorbing memories left and right. Towards the end, Garet had trouble functioning at all. In fact, Iceni had to send a message to imperial command to get help to figure out what was happening to him. Many high imperial officials came, some evokers, others not. In the end they determined that he had to use the skills granted by the relic or suffer as he now did. This devastated the till-then blissful Iceni, but she knew there was only one choice. Sending him directly to the Field of Bones once more, he was put in charge first of a squad, then of a company and finally a battalion. With each engagement, more and more of his old self returned. Eventually, once fully back to himself, he got two choices, return home and risk it all happening again, or serve the empire and not risk that. The choice was simple. He offered once more to take up his old blade on the condition that his wife and children be permitted to accompany him wherever he was assigned. Imperial command said they’d have it no other way and sent him to a recently built city situated at the foot of the Karak Claw Mountains. It did not make much sense to him or his family, but he had no doubt they knew what they were doing. Once there, he was officially promoted and given command of the entire tactical department there. He was, he soon realized, essentially in command of several legions of the Imperial army. Many, many times more than he had ever commanded before. Personality/motivation: Garet is an honorable man who believes that everybody deserves a chance, he is fiercely loyal to the empress and his nation, he is kind and understanding and he can be sympathetic, but perhaps what he's truly loyal too and his true motivation is his family. #### **Baron Isaiah Markul, the Black Knight** #### **Age:** Physically 37, as for the time between when he was born and now, it's around 550ish. #### **Gender:** Male. #### **Faction/Allegiance:** Whatever he believes is right... #### **The Blind Maiden's Tear** The Tear is a simple pendant composed of a silver chain and a bright green gemstone that glows with a soft inner light. This relic grants its bearer several benefits, including: - High physical strength, and a physique to match. - A reserve of magic power to draw on, like a battery. - And immortality. Note, that that is not the same as invulnerability. But the Tear's greatest power is its ability to bestow life on any object (Save corpses), easily creating golems. Once, the Tear was powerful enough to create entire armies of such creatures, now it may only have one active at a time. However, using it this way drains it of energy, meaning Markul has less power for his Geomancy. Markul's unique power is Geomancy, magic that manipulates earth, stone, and metal. Refined metal (such as most armor and weapons) is much more difficult to manipulate; it takes the same amount of effort to crush some uppity adventurer's breastplate together as it does to drop an elephant sized boulder on him. As you can imagine, Geomancy is very powerful, though it is taxing to perform. And, seeing as how Markul is weaker than he used to be he only uses it when he really has to. As for the largest single object he can move right now, that would be a stone boulder roughly 6 feet in diameter. However he could, for example, cause a larger brick wall to crumble by destabilizing its foundations. Naturally, this usually isn't quick. His magic is limited in that he must have contact with the object in question. 'Contact' is defined as being in contact with him or any chain of solid objects he is touching. He cannot, for instance, do anything if he is suspended in the air for some reason, and he can't levitate something long enough to fly around on it... However, he only needs to establish a link first. He could lift a rock off the ground, for instance, so long as he remains on the ground. One final note, the farther away on object is the longer it takes for it to receive his command. This isn't usually a problem, but a little lag can mean life or death. #### **Appearance:** Markul is a very large man, owing to his Relic in some ways. He stands at just under eight feet tall, with the musculature to match. However, such a large frame obviously comes with drawbacks. He is never seen without his jet-black armor, a must for any dark lord. He never removes his helmet in the presence of others, and nobody knows what his face looks like (Likely to be all intimidating, appear less human. That, or shame...). He carries a large tower shield and a massive studded flail, the likes of which only he could really wield. Basically, big imposing villain, an image he worked on for over a decade. However, it's impractical to actually wear a suit of armor at all times, and in times where he feels he must keep a lower profile or he simply doesn't need his armor he wears simple clothes composed of baggy cloth, and an accompanying headwrap that covers most of his face save the areas around his eyes. Said eyes are a vibrant emerald color, though that's likely because of his relic rather than nature. Additionally, the area immediately around his eyes betrays his darker skin tone. #### **Combat Flaws:** - He ain't the fastest crayon on the merry-go-round(...what?), and while quick enough to stomp you his slow speed is definitely a weak point. - Falling will likely kill him, thanks to his heavy weight and the fact he can't use his powers in the air. - His flail has a sort of 'minimum range' where he can't really hit you with it... - He can't use his flail indoors, it just bashes against the ceiling, walls, etcetera, and therefore can't hit you very well or build up momentum. - Heat is very bad for him in that armor, lightning especially... - It can be hard to see in that helmet... - It's hard to turn around in that heavy armor... #### **Character Flaws:** - He is stubborn, very much so. - He is also slow to trust, and has a defeatist attitude about most things. - He has a strong sense of honor that can override pragmaticism. - He is prone to bouts of indecisiveness brought on by his depression and guilt. - He tends to occasionally over/underestimate his opponents... #### **Skills:** Being a big strong man, Markul has all the advantages that brings. He can hit stuff, he can lift stuff, yada yada. He is skilled with his chosen equipment (Heavy armor, tower shield, flail), and is a good smith to boot. He spends a lot of his free time putting 'vessels' together, though most people would call them dolls. Essentially like a blueprint for his golems. He finds such a task as designing a golem to be quite relaxing. #### **Biography:** A relic of a lost age himself, Markul is very, very old. Once your stereotypical 'dark lord' He amassed an army of golems and was planning to do the whole 'take over everything everywhere' plan. However, a group of intrepid evokers went to stop him, yada yada. Sounds familiar right? it was all quite cliche, and the adventurers defeated him and sealed him away, but the exact details of this whole debacle were lost to time. Now, ages later, their spell has worn off and he has been released from his earthen coffin, only to find himself in a time he doesn't understand. The spell kept him physically preserved, but he has had quite a lot of time to think about things, as his mind was free to wander. He might not be what you expect... Anyway, he nearly took over the continent five hundred and fifty years ago, and the legend of the Black Knight of Gorzun is known far and wide. Usually told in the form of a bedtime story. Most of the knowledge of the conflict has been lost to time, and now a large amount of the story is 'artistic liscence.' That being said, it is very much a popular story, and the order of Idris uses a version of it in which the heroes aren't evokers to teach kids of the evil, destructive powers of relics... #### **Personality/motivation:** Markul wishes for... purpose, and redemption. He seeks atonement for his sins above all, but he is also a relic himself, and he longs for meaning. He is a stoic sort of man, wracked with guilt for the atrocities he committed in the name of peace. The ends really don't justify the means, he learned. He is loyal to a fault, once one has earned it, and he views traitors of any sort as the worst kind of scum. He is a courteous man, and is known to show the proper respect to others that he demands of them in return. He is prone to fits of depression... #### **Relations:** - Roan. He is attempting to save this unknown man's life, for reasons unknown even to himself. Perhaps the sight of a man bleeding to death alone in an alley triggered what remains of his conscience.
