The sorting ceremony went on as if nothing had happened. The only indication that it had was the Quinton Jeffreys annoyed glare hitting anyone who dared to speak above a whisper, or be too obvious about it, and especially the younger students being unusually silent after the scolding. Lauren had to hide a smile. She didn't like the minister much and as far as she could see the teaching assistants would not have done any harm. Or the headmistress would have interrupted them much earlier on. But she had only spoken up when the minister seemed to have expected it of her, and all the older students knew she wasn't actually one to punish her students unreasonably. And if she didn't do that to students, then she surely wouldn't to someone who had to teach them and therefore needed to be regarderd with a certain amount of respect.
Lauren let her gaze wander over the teaching assistants, wondering whom might be in charge of the different classes Gallanfrey had mentioned at the beginning of the ceremony. She was curious about those new classes as well. It didn't happen often that Hogwarts made changes like that. And after what had happened at the end of the year before, Lauren was actually a little surprised about the change. But then again it was only really a change for the sixth and seventh years, so she guessed the yunger ones still had their routine to follow.
Sighing, she reached up to lightly touch the bun she had twisted her hair into, making sure it was still holding up. She preferred wearing her hair open, but it had managed to annoy her quite a lot today, so she had used her wand to pin it up. The method always worked well when she didn't have anything else to use and her wand was always at hand when she needed it. Lauren looked down at the table, wishing she had had the thought to bring a book or something. But she hadn't, so she turned back to watching the hat sorting the newcomers into their houses.
