> With this roster and with this occasion, it feels like it's exactly one year ago again. Maybe we can just pretend last year never happened. Last year saw much of the old-timers migrate to other forums as well and activity has declined significantly. We can pretend, but it won't be the same. Let's just see it as a good opportunity for a fresh start.

If the site gets awesomeagain it might prompt some of them to come back As long as progress keeps bein made, who knows wha might happen

We can pretend, but it won't be the same. Let's just see it as a good opportunity for a fresh start. This is really the attitude I'm going with. People may come back and they might not, but what really matters in here is running RP's and doing our thing as a community. I do understand people leaving for other communities in that they wanted to actually RP, and hopefully the Guild will be an option again if we stay stable and offer the features they're looking for. If not, I wish them well. I mean, we could get all 'rarr, arr, arr, arr rarr other communities' but the reality is that we're one of many options out there and it doesn't pay to be a dick to the neighbors. Hopefully, we become a very attractive option again soon once we get over this hump.

> Mahz, are you going to maintain Markdown or a BBCode-alike for those power users (like your's truly) who would rather type it all out on the keyboard than switch between keyboard and mouse for formatting. Or better yet, I often write RP posts in another application like Word or (yes, really!) Notepad, and being able to insert formatting straight into the post is a godsend. It's easier to type `[i]this is italics[/i]` or `*this is italics*` than to type "this is italics," move my hand to my mouse, highlight the text, click the Italics button, and move my hand back to the keyboard. > > Also, oh my god, you have **INLINE** code blocks?! /me swoons I'm scrapping Markdown. Apparently gets in the way of what people expect from formatting. Most editors seem to support keyboard shortcuts like `ctrl-b` for embolden and `ctrl-i` for italicize. Beyond that I guess you'd type your posts into source-view and then toggle to WYSIWYG-view for preview. I could support whatever markup Word uses as long as it only uses HTML tags for styling `<font color="red">foo</font>`, not arbitrary style tags `<span style="color: red">foo</span>`. Couldn't figure out a google query that would give me more info about what a markup copy-and-paste from Word would actually look like.

Very minor in light of everything else but implementing the green tick marks on threads you have posted in as was seen before the migration would be a nice feature to see again.

Even going back to your rudimentary QQ code would be a better means. I find Markdown is nice for conversational posts, but it falls short for RP posts. But having the ability to format posts before posting means I don't have to remember (or my own shorthand) when I'm writing posts in different applications. Not everyone has Word or likes using it, and honestly I usually don't unless I need to see my formatting on the fly.

Hey Mahz when starting a new roleplay instead of making the first post (the creation post) OOC it puts it IC. Do you think there's a way to fix that so that new roleplays don't have this random post in the IC until the roleplay starts?

I'm sure this has been mentioned already and I apologize if it has -- but having a way to delete private messages that are no longer in use would be absolutely spectacular. Given the conversation, it's not a matter of me choosing another site over this one, but it would be a wonderful feature.

Not everyone has Word or likes using it, and honestly I usually don't unless I need to see my formatting on the fly. I agree. Often, when I write posts and have to leave half way through, or want to make a backup of a post, I copied it with the tags into a plain text editor, such as Notepad, because Notepad loads far faster than Word and I only needed plain text. Being able to manually write the tags is useful, and if you want that they need to be intuitive and simple (and reliable), whatever system you choose to go with. Also, being able to write your formatting in plain-text without having to rely on an editor means you have a fall-back for older devices which might not run the editor so well or for mobile devices which may not like using the editor buttons. This is not to say the editor be done away with, just that the editor should not be the only practical means of formatting a post.

BBCode is at the top of my list right now. I decided to pause my progress on the notification system to get some sane formatting. I'm also going to move the rendering onto the server to retire this client-side hack.

BBCode is definitely needed thank you Mahz. Using the asterisk as a bold or italic thing was kinda silly...

Do you think there's a way to fix that so that new roleplays don't have this random post in the IC until the roleplay starts? Thanks for the report. Cred to TheMaster99 for fixing it: <https://github.com/danneu/guild/commit/b8af068cbd4f3689214d0c890624f90420e66a7a> - The fix will be in tonight's server push along with some others. > I'm sure this has been mentioned already and I apologize if it has -- but having a way to delete private messages that are no longer in use would be absolutely spectacular. Agreed. This is the most requested feature right now on my list. I have started writing the code for it but need to just sit down and finish it. I decided to introduce an "Archive Convo" button and a "Delete Convo" button. Archiving just files convos away into a folder so that they're still there for reference but they aren't cluttering the main list of convos you currently care about. You still receive PMs for archived convos as I've implemented it so far. Deleting will remove the record of that convo from your inbox. You simply get removed from the convo's list of participants. > Very minor in light of everything else but implementing the green tick marks on threads you have posted in as was seen before the migration would be a nice feature to see again. Thanks. I also need to bring back the you-are-subscribed-to-this-topic indicator when you're viewing the topics list. Similar code for both features.

Quick question... Will you have a system in place to catch convos without any participants left? Or will they fill up your server's drives?

> Quick question... Will you have a system in place to catch convos without any participants left? Or will they fill up your server's drives? There isn't much of a concern since it would take an incredible amount of post volume to hit a disk space constraint. But these days I would generally set up a weekly automated orphan-convo sweep for completedness' sake.

> BBCode is definitely needed thank you Mahz. Using the asterisk as a bold or italic thing was kinda silly... Honestly, it's not. Think about email and text lists before rich text formatting became common. Asterisks and underlines were common ways of formatting text, in addition to ALL CAPS. Markdown follows that same idea, but as I mentioned before, it's more suitable for conversational posts like an email or discussion. It's not as good for novel-type posts, which is the primary content (debatable by our spammers, I suppose) here.

Just be absolutely sure that the orphan convo sweeper doesn't accidentally delete normal or archived convos. That might have consequences that are hard to fix if you get that wrong. Also, when you bring in BBCode, can you please be sure to keep the Headers. I like these new Headers. They're useful.
