Tempting. If I were to join my main idea would probably be the remnants of the Russian government/military re-taking the bulk of Alaska as that would be the closest landing zone possible and declaring it their new nation. Probably renaming anchorage into something else. I'de have to put pent ot paper for more details but the gist of it is basically.... Making a new Russia.

So, the idea here is: anything that dies, comes back with evil intent. There is no virus, no transmission. Science does not apply to the dead rising. They are simply coming back, and attacking the living. The only loose scientific fact is that removing limbs from a host's body renders them lifeless, suggesting that whatever drives them is located in the torso. Anyway, getting back on track with the animal thing. IF you're in the forest, and you shoot a deer, it's going to get back up in one to four hours and come back for revenge. However, if you were to hastily butcher the animal, severing its head and limbs, within that one to four hour time frame, then rest assured that your dinner isn't going to get up off the table to attack you. Vegetation is not affected by the bizarre happenings, so vegetables are safe and hassle free food. If you were to eat a "revived" animal, then the usual rules apply to raw meat. If it's been out in the sun for a couple of hours, it's probably rancid, right? But if its been kept cool, and quite well preserved, then ya know, have at it. Scientists prior to the "fuck science, lets kill these bitches" approach taken by the world at large, could find nothing that would explain the happenings. All that we know, is if something dies, it comes back, and it is angry and it wants to murder you. ---------------------------------------------- Am sorry for the RP's slowed development. Include as much, and as little, information as you want. Some players like filling in the gaps through the roleplay, after all. However, here are a few areas you should cover: Great Lakes Confederation The government is called, unimaginatively, The Confederacy. One member from each canton represents their district, and a single member is elected Primus inter Pares, or First among Equals, after someone pulled the term from an old book. The First, as they are often called, is 'in charge' insomuch as the others respect and admire whoever it is, but a two-thirds majority is required for a decision to be passed.It works surprisingly well, though that may be because there are only 15 cantons so far. Being a farming confederation at the end of the day, the technological focus is on tools and equipment that can make their jobs easier. Old world farming equipment is carefully hoarded and loaned out to the larger communities while carefully monitored animal power has it's place in the off season and in smaller, out of the way communities. Wool and leather are common clothing materials, with cotton and other similar materials being traded for(if applicable). A large stock of old-world weapons, mainly rifles and shotguns are distributed throughout the towns and villages for the local militia, though low stocks of ammunition leave their use to designated sharpshooters. Besides that, the weapons are only of limited use against the undead and serve as a deterrent to more lively opponents. To make up for the number of firearms, militias also train and use halberds. There is also squads of crossbows or archers, depending on the community in question, and like the rifles, built with human opponents rather than undead ones in mind. Like Switzerland in the medieval period, the Great Lakes Confederation is more of an alliance of towns than a single unified state. There is a single capital, and some laws that govern every canton, but beyond ensuring that citizens have equal rights, regulating the livestock farms and game resources, and maintaining the militia the cantons are free to do as they please. One may become a citizen of the Great Lakes Confederation either by simply being born in a territory claimed by the Confederation, by claiming descent from other citizens within a maximum of two generations, or by being sponsored by an existing citizen and spending two years in probation. By being a citizen, the individual must make themselves available for militia training unless physically unable to, report any violation of the livestock laws or sightings of the undead, and have one part in ten of anything they produce taken as a tax. In exchange they receive the protection of the Confederation, whether it is from the undead, looters, other communities or even abuse from within the Confederation itself. The primary resources and industries of The Confederation is farming, livestock and salvaging dead cities. The last is quite lucrative, as there are four large cities within their territory, London, Toronto, Montreal and Hamilton, with Detroit, Ottawa and Quebec City all within travel distance. Also of importance is the St. Lawrence River itself, giving the Confederation access to the Atlantic, should there be any opportunities of trade with other states along the seaboard.

Hegemony of the Northern Rockies The government structure of the Hegemony, despite the democratic aspects, resembles a dictatorship more than anything else. A chancellor leads the state , wielding nigh-absolute authority in all matters. His/her orders can only be contradicted should all of the mayors reject her decision, a rare occurrence. With such power the Chancellor is able to quickly respond to any incidents that would threaten the Hegemony, not having to deal with any objections that could endanger the safety of the inhabitants. The Chancellorship is awarded by a group of elders, representing the mayor and community representative of each township. The mayor of each town is elected in a similar manner. Despite these absolutist measures democratic elements are still present in society, including the right to petition, protest, and oust a leader if they are mismanaging the town/Hegemony. One of the areas to take extreme measures was the area which would eventually become the Hegemony. One may become a citizen by being born in Hegemony territory or by being admitted by a senior official's recommendation. All others must first pass a two week's probationary period before taking a 'test'. This test is more a display of will and loyalty, required by all to ensure that the Hegemony does not fall. The test taker is given an unloaded gun but this fact is not shared. They are then forced to 'shoot' someone. If the person cannot bring themselves to do it then they are thrown out of the territory. If they pass then they are immediately accepted as a citizen. A secondary test may be taken if the first one is failed, albeit a much more dangerous one. A person is sent out into the wild and must return by the end of the fifth day of leaving. On one condition. The applicant must bring back the heads of at least three zombies. If the applicant is part of a family they are sent out alone or with any children over the age of 16. If this task is completed then the applicant is also immediately accepted. Any form of dangerous behavior is dealt with harshly, flogging being the most basic punishment, though more serious crimes will result in death or expulsion without chance of return. The Hegemony boasts an impressive array of technology and industrial capabilities despite the degraded state of the world following the outbreak. Large amounts of farming equipment can be found within or just outside the border, remnants of the old vineyards that produced massive quantities of wine pre-outbreak. This impressive array allows the inhabitants of the Hegemony to support themselves with farming to an extent despite the harsh nature of the area in which they live. The only problem presented by this is that the best farmland lies outside of the Hegemony's mountainous territory. In addition to farming, the Hegemony is only a short distance away from the Pacific Ocean and one of the largest ports on the West Coast. As such there are several fishing ships that can be commandeered by those of the Hegemony, although this is not done frequently as it involves risks of all kinds, albeit less than that of farming. Most often, fishing is done in the streams that run through the state of Washington. Military technology, while not in abundance, are not a rare sight either. Over decades the nearby airfields and bases have been strippped of all valuable material, providing a vast supply of explosives, ammunition, spare parts, vehicles, and other specialized equipment. The planes were left in the airfield in hopes that they could one day be used to venture further than they ever have before. A firearm is kept in every house, meant to be used as a deterrent against the living . Against the dead, older style weaponry is used, primarily maces and short swords. Each village maintains a defense force ready to react but the bulk of the killing is done by roaming teams of hunters patrolling the borders. When encountering a group of zombies they will utilize their weapons to dispatch them quietly. If detected they form a shield wall using procured riot shields and finishing off the zombies. Each kill team also has two men that carry a firearm. The Hegemony is able to amass vast amounts of resources compared to various other states due to the industries existing before the outbreak. Mining quarries are scattered throughout the mountains, allowing the Hegemony access to metals and stone with which to build. In addition, manufacturing plants for electronics. vehicles, and lumber are situated near the Hegemony, allowing them to produce a variety of rarer items if needed. Due to an abundance of damns in the area, the Hegemony has been able to repair some and restore power to these plants. However, as the plants lie outside the border, it presents a danger to all those involved. Despite this availability, they do not have the means to manufacture weapons, clothing, or medical equipment very well, relying on others or rare scavenging ventures to bring back these supplies. Food can also be a problem for them as the mountainous terrain limits the crop-growing ability of many.

Liking what I'm seeing from the early entries. Having reviewed the RP in its current form, I'm going to say I'm happy with it. There's not really much more to add, although I'm sure there'll be further questions on the undead, and other things. I don't want to overcomplicate matters by adding whods more of information in, or expanding on the existing material too heavily. So what I'll do, is create an FAQ section, and list the various questions offered by the players, and the answers, so's that people have somewhere they can check if they're at a loss. But I mean, it's really not hard to grasp is it? With all that said, I'll likely get the RP up tonight, and will be formally receiving entries. Will need to comb over Durandal and Jec's in more detail before I hit the accept button, but from what I've skimmed over, they both look to be in order. Gotta go out for a meal with friends in a short while, so when I'm home from that, I'll crack on.

Why are you using sails and oars? You can use steam. All you'd need is wood and coal. That and people who know how it works. Sails and oars could be used on the side, but the absence of oil doesn't automatically make them (sails and oars) a necessity, or the primary source of seaborne power. Steam would be relatively easy to use, and more effective. The following is not meant to offend, and I'm only pointing it out because I'm on the topic and I'm genuinely curious -- Why are they suddenly Venetian? It is rather strange that a bunch of Canadians would suddenly pretend to be Venetian.

Nation's Name: Bayou Republic Leader's/Government's Name: Given name is Louise Arson. He changed his name to Napoleon Quatre after he took control of his area. Choose an area on the map for your nation and draw the borders for me to see, or describe them. I will colour the area in, and label it for you on the main map: Louisiana Description of Technology: Life Technology The Bayou Republic's technology orbits around 3 things, How to make guns, How to make food, and how to make more guns. This means that the Bayou Republic is very militaristic, with the harvest weapons from the Shreveport and Fort Polk bases in the nation they have the ability to use drones, but that doesn't mean they love to fight head on. They use what they call modified Bayonets, they are basically Machine Guns with swords welded on top of them. When low on those weapons though, they aren't afraid to just use normal hunting weapons overall. City Scape Technology Large Cities such as New Orleans are much more advanced then cities such as Bunkie. New Orleans also has the largest port in the Republic, which means that most of the countries military and trade ships are planted there, ready to deploy at any moment. Shreveport holds the largest military base in the country, with a large amount of left over drones in that area. They government of the Bayou Republic are also in the process of building a wall around the city. Description of Society: Society in the Bayou Republic is a Social Pyramid. The races of the nation, though most seem similar, are all divided. The Highest on the Pyramid are the Cajun-Creole group. The current leader is Cajun-Creole. Next up on the list are the bulk of the population. They are just the normal southerners. They are simply known as the dixie. Lastly are the African Americans, treated poorly, but still not slaves. Most of the High class do not treat African Americans well typically giving them the worst jobs possible. The Republic is also a bit like Switzerland. Everyone in the country by law must own a gun and they are all legally in the military if they are in the ages between 16 and 46. Though only a few use the military as the full time job, most are use only for invasions or defence. Description of any significant industries your nation operates. I.e blacksmithing, gun making, agriculture. This'll help any potential future trade deals take place with other players: The Bayou Republic focuses on building military goods, they trade with small wandering groups or other countries by using the Mississippi River. They also produce plenty of boats, from fishing to military. Agriculture was a big part of Louisiana before the zombies came, but most Tractors where taken and modified as military vehicles.

IRL Halifax is focused heavily on private industry and commerce, so it's not much of a transition. It would be more accurate to say that they are a Canadian version of Venice (minus canals) than a Venetian version of Canada.
