Faira felt the flames responding to her attempts at holding them back. The flow of her power tingled through her arms. She noticed Adrian only as his own dark shield appeared around the flames. As she feared her control over the elements would again rise and act on their own, the flames suddenly extinguished themselves, leaving a screen of smoke in their wake.
As the air cleared, Faira squinted at what remained of the stairs, and her shoulders sank. She took a deep, shaky breath, and, running a hand through her brown hair, looked to Rose as if making sure the woman still stood there. Her gaze shifted toward the demon, and she took a step away before the sound of a new voice made her jump and spin around, a flicker of flame jumping across her fingers as she readied to fight or flee--a sensation she was quickly beginning to wonder would ever cease to be a staple in her day.
Faira eyed the newcomer and the odd maid’s outfit she wore. Her brows creased as the maid bowed and gave her apologies.
“‘Lost’ would be an understatement,” she muttered, eyeing Scarlet with suspicion as the last person they had encountered, Marianne, flashed through her mind. She crossed her arms loosely, her palms against her elbows. She glanced to the robot before adding her own quiet question to his. “And what are you doing here… wherever _here_ is?”
