Dead Cruiser Dishonour Before Death / Better You Than Me

Deep within the Undercity of Ravnica, a secret organization convenes. Here, alliances are formed, plans are drawn, and the fate of the Multiverse is decided. The attendants are unlike any that can be found elsewhere in any reality: universal travelers, mages without equal. The Planeswalkers have Gathered, and the Infinite Consortium begins anew. Jace Beleren, a man known throughout the Plane as the Living Guildpact, holds another prestigious title among this privileged group. As Master of the Infinite Consortium, he has taken upon himself a greater responsibility than a mere single Plane. Not content with saving one Plane, he seeks to save them all. The hunger of the Eldrazi, the infection of Phyrexia and the machinations of Nicol Bolas shall threaten the Multiverse no longer. Here he has gathered the brightest minds, greatest wills, and strongest hearts of the Multiverse. A new Guild, for a new age, for every universe. An open summons was issued to Planewalkers of every race and creed to join the Infinite Consortium, and fight to save the Multiverse. Alien runes and mysterious symbols left across Planes, where only those that could travel between them could recognize them. All of these signs pointing toward the City of Guilds, with illusions and psychic signals leading them to the meeting-place. The time is now, and your story now truly begins. You are a Planeswalker... ---

Quick question, can our planeswalkers have companions, like a caracal, or something?

Please keep all questions in the OOC, thank you.

Sort of. It would still need to be a summon, as nothing living could Planeswalk with you.
How will we be doing this mtg thing, because im pretty sure combat is going to be a major part of this roleplay so how are we gonna do that?
Combat will be roleplayed, naturally. I leave it to the discretion of my Players how their character fights, but more powerful effects in battle can be achieved either by "channeling" mana, or attaining "momentum" in combat. In other words, either forcibly ramp up the mana, or gradually snowball your way to it.

How will we do the whole 'turn' thing? This is more of a question regarding instants and sorceries.

I have a question regarding the use of spells and colors, is this like commander where you cannot control mana that is not it your color?

Apologies for my absence, I had a busy night.
How will we do the whole 'turn' thing? This is more of a question regarding instants and sorceries.
For the sake of it, consider instants spells that you can cast on reflex, and sorceries to be spells that take preparation, or have a cast time.

I'd prefer if we kept it that way, if only to give each of our characters distinct identities and specializations. Now, onto characters. @Gisk, I would ask that you take a look at the finalized CS, and update your character sheet accordingly. @Melkor, just a few things. "Scholar" isn't really a character class, and "Wizard" pretty much covers your character, regardless. I realize that I didn't include an appearance section in the CS, but I will be amending one in shortly. You can give your Plane a name if it isn't canon, unless you want it to just be a totally unknown Plane. The last thing is that colors aren't specifically referred to within the storyline; Jace Beleren is not a self-proclaimed master of "blue magic," he calls himself a "mind mage." Sort of get me? One last thing: the "Style" section asks a description of your character's combat style and other relevant skills, not just a list of cards. @MarsAdept, Nice character, it works well. Can definitely see him being a front-lines pointman type. As long as you're aware that the more colors you have, the more difficult it is to build up to bigger spells. Think of it sort of like devotion, or building a mana pool. I'd just ask that you proofread your posts in the RP more carefully. The same issue with the "Style" section" in Melkor's CS also applies here. Anyway, to summarize points that apply to everyone:
  • An appearance section will be added into the CS.
  • I will be balancing having multiple colors by establishing multi-colored spells as harder to build up mana for. Especially for enemy colors.
  • The "Style" section is not just a list of spells; I ask that you describe your combat style and other useful skills.
  • Is the CS too confusing? Would you guys like a sample character from me to help write the CS?
  • So far we have three male humans, all using red magic, two of which from Ravnica. Here on out, I'm going to be a bit more discriminating regarding characters that meet the above parameters, if only to enforce a little diversity. We're pulling from an entire Multiverse here, people, there's pretty much nothing constraining your creativity.

Dear Dead Cruiser, I sense you get the idea i was trying to get at with my character. If you want more diversity with the overall characters I can do that and still maintain my idea of a frontline warrior no problem. Please give me a bit.

Not asking that anyone change their character, just making it known that I'll be hesitant to accept similar characters here on out.

For several reasons, chief among them being other projects that have started to pick up speed again - and I really want to get them done - I must withdraw my interest in this thread. My apologies, and I wish you guys good luck.

@Dead Crusier I understand, that makes sense. How should I descibe it then? Should I say that they used destructive magic? Also, I would like to see an example of the style section.

I think what your CS could benefit from most would be more detail, especially pertaining to the Plane you've invented. Red magic and executions in a coliseum give me a very sort of Klingon feel to the Plane, or at least that culture within the Plane. I'll leave it up to you what the specifics happen to be. I'll write a sample CS when I get off work tonight.

A vast improvement. Both your character and Mars' are accepted. @Apollosarcher I'd recommend that your character take on a color. The only truly colorless Planeswalkers we've so far seen in canon were quite special cases. Just as recommendations, Blue is pretty much the go-to color for artifacts, and your character's personality gives me a sense for White.

Well the reason's he's colorless was he came from a plane during a time where almost all the mana was gone, thus anyone there who relied on mana used colorless. Dominara was nearly dead at the time of his birth, so I was actually going to make him blue-white but I read more into it, he couldn't have based on lore. It does mean he knows about the great and powerful planeswalkers from before.

The way it seems to be working, with artifacts, is a 'first come, first served' basis.

Generic artifacts aren't limited per person, as spells aren't. This is why I'm limiting access to Legendary anything. Really only the approximate function of the artifact would be copied; two Planeswalkers with the "same" artifact could go without knowing it, through different "construction" and appearance.

The issue with that being, the Great Mending was over a hundred years ago.

Yes but that simply mended the plane, it would have still been a waste land with little mana for next hundreds of years, in the lore they state nearly all the mana on the plane was gone. People barely got by and the's planewalkers used themselves to supplement the lack of mana. It would take thousands of years all the colors to get back to a normal state.

The presence of colored spells on Dominaria following the Mending proves otherwise. Not to mention that learning magic on other planes would grant your character colored spells, especially on planes as color-focused as Ravnica.
