Of course It'll take years until it's done, but I want to know how are we going to know when a year has passed.

And, that canal would be going through a super hilly area...

I suggest a certain number of posts made. 50 or 100 depending on how many players we have. I did an NRP like that before and it really helped people plan timing.

It is? I though there was space between the hills, I think there is space. If not, that will be hard without TNT.

But what if people are occupied with a meeting or something that's only going to take a couple of days? I think the more difficult part isn't determining how much time has passed, but rather synching up everything that's going on in the world.

Through the mountains, as it were... but maybe there's a pass or something it could be dug through.

As for the passage of time in-game, I haven't figured that out yet.

An idea would be to play the game in seasons; each player has, say, three actions per season (troop movement, delegations to other nations, construction, etc). The seasons will be played in three IRL day intervals. Didn't use your actions of the season? Your loss. Or something like that. What do you think?

I was going to send a letter with the plans in and waited for a response for that nation.

I'm not a big fan of systems like that, to be honest.

As for the canal, it looks like there is a small section of non-mountainous terrain that it could go through.

I'd prefer seeing a year go by every 18 days or so, because battles that last a week in game could take 6 days to roleplay. This also allows more detailed roleplay such as delegations to move forward while an army training academies take 9 days.

Also, since there's gonna be 10 different storylines. It'd be cool if at the top of your post, you put which nations are affected by said post.

What if each season took a week? That'd give people a month of IRL time to complete a year in game. And maybe more actions. Is 7 actions too many?

I imagine in between the mountains would be super hilly, is what I was meaning.
And I'm not a fan of those kind of systems either. They bug me a lot unless it was planned like that from the beginning, and that usually takes the game to an advanced level.

Why not just jump it up to 21 days and have it be three weeks, then? Just my opinion

I like the idea of a week being three months, but I really don't think we should limit actions. That gets in the way of storytelling too much. Plus, I know some of my characters wont be involved in major actions of my nation, but rather will be mostly for storytelling purposes.

(Sorry for the double post)

I'm just afraid the game will stagnate in political discussion if we don't limit time somehow. It's happened a lot before to these kinds of games.

I feel discussions between private parties can be taken to private messages to speed up roleplay. Plus, I think the amount of inevitable warmongerering will keep everyone chugging along.

I actually prefer the political discussion over the warmongering, to be honest.

Ok, scrub the actions then. But could we agree that 1 week = 1 season? Just to move time along.

I prefer a balance. However, political discussion RP does get stale if its not accompanied by anything. GM, are you okay with private RP taking place in PM's or a place where the dialogue can be exchanged faster, and so it doesn't turn into a free-quality rp.

I'm ok with PMs, as long as some sort of summary is posted for all to see.
