Little Ann shook her head to all of their questions, sniffling as she did so.
“No, I d-don’t know why they were chasing m-me. I think they wanted to eat me! I-I was just sleeping together with M-Mama and Papa and then…and then…and t-then I ended up in this scary place! Wah!”
The young girl clung to Faira’s leg even tighter now, a fresh wave of tears moistening her eyes and spilling forward. Watching the entire scene, Scarlet sighed heavily. Well, the girl wasn’t a threat that was for sure. Even so, it would be difficult to handle a child along their escape out of this place. In that case…
Walking forward, the maid bent down to Little Ann’s level and fetched something out of her uniform’s pocket. Revealed in her palm was a small candy. Smiling, she poked Little Ann’s head to gain her attention before handing her the offering. Whimpering, Little Ann snatched the food from her hand and ate it hesitantly. After a few seconds, she calmed down enough to smile, wiping a trail of tears and some snot with her sleeve.
Scarlet stood up.
“Well. Now that it’s all taken care of, we should find a way out of this hallw-ow!”
Wincing, Scarlet bent down to rub her head. Glancing up, her eyes widened at this new development. The ceiling was low. Lower than before. When had that happened? Looking around, the maid tensed as she not only noticed the new layout of their surroundings, but also the sound of something else approaching.
The walls were closed in, tighter than when they had originally entered the hallway. They were all boxed in, forced down to crouch as the area had now suddenly become cramped. That wasn’t all, as the sound of something loud was rushing towards them.
A cascade of murky green water billowed out of the hallway entrance from where they came. It was enough to flood the ceiling, and it raced toward the group like an enraged tsunami.
If nothing was done soon, they would all drown.
