DC Universe: Age of Heroes

Hello fellow DC comics fans, I noticed that there is at least one Marvel universe RP on the forums but there is sadly a lack of RP's centered around my favorite comic book universe. As we all know (assuming that we means current DC fans) DC comics has recently "rebooted" the universe in 2011 with the New 52. Now it seems that they might once again change the DCU as we know it. The New 52 is both good and bad depending on the individual book series.
However for this RP we will be completely rebooting the entire DCU starting from scratch. Each player will initially take on one hero form the DCU of their choosing. Sidekicks will come later on meaning at the beginning of the RP there will be no Robin/Supergirl/Kid Flash type characters. Characters like Nightwing will also be off limits in the beginning because he was Robin first of course. Also villains such as Lex Luthor and the Joker will be played by the player taking on their heroes. (The player playing Batman will have all Batman villains to use in their character's multiple arcs.)
We will create engaging stories using our characters and each character's backstory is up to the player as long as it makes sense for the character. (Superman is from Krypton and Batman's parents are dead. However are Ma and Pa Kent still alive? Is Alfred an old man or Bruce's childhood friend? That's up to you!) If you want to be the Green Lantern, are you Hal Jordan or Jon Stewart? Basically play the character how you want to play them.
We will start off pre-justice league. Your character's first arc will be the beginning of their crime fighting career, all characters will therefore start off very young (18-24) and will not yet be all powerful or have all of their gadgets. Meaning Superman just moved to Metropolis and is fighting bad guys in blue-jeans and a t-shirt. The police will see us as dangerous vigilantes causing more trouble than we are fixing.
Feel free to do cross-overs and team ups with other players however the first world threatening event will not come until all characters have completed at least their introductory arc. When this event happens (I have plans of course) is when the Justice League will form for the first time and then afterwards we can really go off and establish our selves as super heroes and not city bound vigilantes. Also a player can take on multiple characters after 3 IC posts of their initial character. Sidekicks however will not come in until after our first Justice League event. Also I will be playing as Superman but any other character is up for grabs. If multiple players want to play the same character, I and the players not wanting to play said character will will take a vote on who should play them based on the character sheet of each interested player.
World State/History
It is early May 2016, for hundreds of years legends have been made about extraordinary people with superhuman powers doing the impossible. Up until this point the stories and legends were false, made up tales to wow the people and scare the children. Now superhuman powers are no longer that of science fiction. Over the last month there have been increasing reports of superhuman activity in cities all over the country. These superhumans have taken the law upon themselves as many are becoming masked vigilantes.
While some believe that the appearance of these super powered men an women fighting crime is a good thing, most of the world is terrified of them. Over the last month these unbelievable people have become objects of rage and wonder. Youtube videos pop up everywhere and are immediately taken down by the government, the latest of which was the sighting of a man in a red cape in Metropolis. Not all superhumans are benevolent however, some use their newly-found power for everything from petty theft to murder. This has swayed public opinion against all superhumans. Thousands of people have risen up in protest demanding that the government do something about these dangerous beings.
The police in cities "infected" with superhumans have been given government funding to deal with the problem. These police forces are being armed with advanced policing weapons and in some cases even military armaments. Some wealthy business men and scientists such as Lex Luthor are working with the government to create anti-superhuman weapons.
This is both a wonderful and terrible time in human history. Some still do not believe in the stories of these superhumans, others believe the stories are exaggerated and that the world is far to worried about a couple of people in tights fighting common criminals. The world will have to wait and see where the future takes it.
Rules
- Only characters from the DC Universe are accepted for obvious reasons. This could be any character from the main DCU. Any non DC character (Marvel/Image/Darkhorse/Original) will be ignored.
- Refrain from having your character do anything that will start a universe-wide event. As the GM I have plans for such events and will on occasion ask if anyone has any ideas for such events. If you are Batman feel free to kill off Commissioner Gordon, but don't have Darkseid do it as the beginning of his invasion plan.
- Everyone is expected to post in IC once every three weeks. However try to post at least once a week, nothing kills an RP like inactivity! If you are unable to post within three weeks because of real life that is understandable, however if you do not let us know your character will be put on a probation period of one week. If you do not post within that week your character will be either handed to someone else or killed off. (In case some one would rather be Walley West than Barry Allen.)
- No controlling someone else's character unless given permission by the other player. It is unnecessary and rude, and under no circumstances can you kill off an active member's character. Superman will be enforcing this rule *cracks knuckles*
- Side-kicks can only be made after the first Universe-wide arc. (I know what it is but not when it will happen) Also once side-kicks come into play, the player playing the mentor has first dibs. The Batman player can give Robin to someone if he wishes though.
- As we are making our own DCU, solo story arcs are highly encouraged and will be everyone's first arc.
- Collabs and team-ups will become available as soon as a player is done with their first solo arc. As in Once I get my Superman past his first arc I can team up with anyone else who has finished their first arc.
- Any player who has posted at least three time in the IC can apply for another character. Their second character has to follow the original rules. (Intro arcs and team up rules) A player can have up to five characters, however you have to post at least three times with each of your other characters to get a new one. (to get a third you must have at least six posts for your original and three for your second and so on) This helps make sure that people with multiple characters are committed to the RP
- Evolve your characters, Dick Grayson can become Nightwing!
- Time travel and dimension hopping are off limits at the moment. This may or may not change.
- Stay in character at all times in the IC. You would think this would be understood but I've had problems before.
- Regular guild rules apply (any arguments are to be handled via pm, GM has final say, at least three good paragraphs for an advanced RP post)
