I find superman is very relatable, he grew with an honest background, his parents weren't rich, he was adopted and he works an average job. It's funny because superman could work almost any job if he chose to but he chose an more average job as a reporter. In a sense Superman is going against the norm that we all have to be over achievers which in my opinion is a serious problem that society has. Superman is symbol that we don't need to be billionaires or over achievers to do good.
Oh, yeah, definitely. My emphasis on how different he is one reason why he's so easy to relate to. He seems like a run-of-the-mill average Joe, but what makes him great is the stuff he hides from others (and from himself early on). And I think a LOT of people are like that. I like to think I'm like that. He's just relatable all around, even in his difference.
He also an allegory for the immigrants who came to America and made the country better
Exactly! That's why I think he's so important as a character. The importance of his diversity is lost in American culture, and it's a great allegory for immigrants and outsiders who struggle to fit in when they (and the rest of the society) need to learn how valuable different can be. There is strength in diversity and everyone has something to offer no matter their origins--or rather because of their origins.
You're totally right, that's the problem with American culture today, we're so snobby and stuck up about what is valuable and are always trying to follow the crowd because someone else tells us what's cool and not cool.

I'd rewrite the character to not be so lame.
I think he is way cooler than most superheroes, and he's a better person
Issue i have with Superman is that he's OP, and being OP is lame.

But hulk and Sentry as well as Jean Gray are all insanely powerful and yet they are still considered great characters. Superman has more weaknesses than most super strong Marvel heroes, I think the op argument is flawed because most people like a character that would be considered op

Lois dies, Earth has a gillion superheroes by then, so Kal becomes an interstellar wanderer for a time.

Not sure if serious, or elaborate wordplay. Either way you're right. If I could write a superman story, it would be about batman.

If I could write a superman story, I would have him fighting magical villains and traveling to other dimensions on huge quests to fight off evil. I would have him go on more off world adventures

I would write the real death of Superman, it would involve having him drawn and quartered until his limb rip off, having his hid ripped off, and then his entire body is eaten by whatever horrifying villian. It would conclude with Batman killing the horrifying villian with ease.

Why do so many people like Batman? He's even more of a Gary Stu than Superman and he's overrated. :( If you're going to like a superhero who doesn't have powers, at least have it be someone who's cooler than the Mary Sues you made when you were 12.

Name twenty superhero who doesn't have powers that meet your criteria.

Superman is still the better hero and he is a lot more fun to read.

Ironman. Arguably Captain America who's at peak--not super--human potential. Nightwing. Black Widow. Batwoman (Barbara). Green Arrow. Um. I actually don't know many superheros, lol, but every one I do is better than Batman as a character. (And 20 is a lot, man, you rude.) He's overrated and flat and, again, I wrote better characters when I first started role playing.

Ironman - Extremis enhanced. Off the list of non-powered superheroes. Captain America - Super Soldier Syrum. Off the list of non-powered superheroes. Nightwing - Poor man's Batman. On the list. Black Widow - Red Room Variant of the Super Soldier Syrum. Off the list of non-powered superheroes. Batwoman (Barbara) - Paralyzed poor man's Batman. Super Soldier Syrum. Off the list of non-powered superheroes due to inability to actually fight crime. Hacking doesn't count either, otherwise the real world has quite a problem with supervillians. Green Arrow - Batman with a bow and arrow and an addiction problem. Unreliable, he barely qualifies to be on the list.
(And 20 is a lot, man, you rude.)
I picked twenty because I wanted to give you a chance to actually pick more than two. You only got two. As for you thinking being asked to name twenty powerless superheroes is rude sounds like a you problem not a me problem.
Superman is still the better hero and he is a lot more fun to read.
Superman is quite littarly the most boring hero on the face of the planet.

Oh, I think you think I'm taking this more seriously than I actually am, haha. Me calling y'rude was more of a joke. But a little more seriously, even those two that made the list are far more interesting than Batman as a character. I'm not arguing any of them are better (because really it's impossible to be better than a Mary Sue) but they're just better developed and more interesting. Even the superheroes with superpowers are better characters. Even Superman--in my opinion anyway--is far more interesting a character than Batman. This is literally my only point: Batman is an overrated superhero and literally every other superhero I can think of is a better character. That's it. Maybe not a better superhero or crime fighter, but a better developed and more interesting character. (And a side note regarding the list, you asking for superheroes that fit my criteria, not yours, lol, so technically they all count anyway.)

I take very few things seriously, anything on this website is not one of those things.

I asked for your criteria, didn't say I was going to accept your criteria.

When did people start classifying Batman as a superhero? Don't you have to have super powers to be a superhero? Isn't he just a normal hero?
