That is in your character sheet, and that's what I was going off of. . .So. . . .Yeah. . . . .The king should be in the village, unless you wanna change your character sheet. . . . Sorry if I sound picky, but it got me really confused there, and both can't be true :P

Sorry, it's just, reading your post it sounds as if the king sent the captain and his troops out while he stayed behind by the wording and since the captain was giving orders and not the king.
