Her mother is an heiress to a prominent medical supply company (which has been rumored to have delved in human cell harvesting) and her father is an obscure drug lord. Her mother, Basira Gadar of the Gadar Busafi family and heiress to Busafi Corp, bore Mal in secrecy and wanted nothing to do with the child. Her birth had never been announced to the rest of the family, much less the public in fear of ruining the family name. Even in a city deeply laced with drug culture any association with the Beta districts was abhorred by the more privileged drug pushers of district 2. She was sent to live with her father but before her arrival to district 15 it was dispatched to her guardian, a lowly messenger under her mothers power at the time, that Mal's father had disappeared off the radar. Fearing for his life the messenger did not want to return with the baby still in his possession and so he sold her into the black market of district 15. Luckily for her the messenger had not sold her to a harvester but instead to Po Havargo, a young mafia boss at the time. Desperately in need of a child after a strange family situation occurred that very day he took the child into the care of the Havargo family.

Raised in the warm clutches of the Havargo drug empire, with roots deeply knotted in district 15 and branching out slightly into 14, young Mal lead a very sheltered childhood despite her surroundings. Named after the long dead great grandmother and once matriarch Mal Havargo, who once had a strong hold on the district of 15, and who was rumored to had delved in sanataria, or "demoncraft", which many believed condemned her clan to such horrible bad luck. After the death of La Gran Mal, as she was referred to respectfully as, her family lost its footing in the drug world and spiraled out of control. Forced into the recesses of their empire and kicked back by the other drug competition in D15 the family was almost pushed into extinction. Her heir, Oriana Havargo (for the clan was strictly matriarchal), had to work from the ground up and for ten long years fought wars on what was once her families land. Around the time it seemed that the Family was about to reattain its footing Oriana was assassinated but with no female heir. Her only son, Po, would have to take over as the first male in generations. Only days after coming to power Po, then only 26, had a dream; one he claimed where God came to him warning him of his death if he did not have a female heir before the end of the year. After months of trying with his then girlfriend and then with her sister, after a doctors appointment which announced that he was sterile, Po came to one conclusion; buy the child. Days later he bought Mal in the shadiest part of D15 and back to her new home.

For the majority of her childhood she was raised by the same three old crones; Cyra, Celia, and Cynthia. All three schooled, bathed, dressed, and beat her into the lady she is today. They placed her under close scrutinization every single day. Watched what she watched, what she ate, who she talked to (which were few, much less male), what she read, and would constantly prod her mind for what she thought. Literally, whatever the conversation may be, each was begun with a question that required critical thought and they would not answer her if she did not answer them first. She was not allowed past the house yard for the majority of her childhood and would be beaten if any attempt was made. However dull she perceived life with them to be she soon learned just why exactly such protection and caution was used with her; at the age of 15 she was told her role in the families doings: to be a drug lord and acquire the power they had lost so many years ago. Her temperament soon plummeted at this knowledge and she soon rebelled- for she knew that she was not given the same life as the children which she spotted from her bedroom window. Feeling used and nothing but a pawn young Mal made many attempts to run away from home- but was always brought back by her fathers men. Po, whom she rarely saw, was the only person Mal felt comfortable around. She loved her father then because she was ignorant to the secrets he kept from her.

At 17 she was taken in by her father and was sent in to live with him; he taught her the ropes of the business; how to behave and such but the Crones had already taught her enough. For the brief time that she was with him she found that managing business was her element and running the show; ordering shipments and workers about was not as horrible as she believed it would be. That was until the day a raid went wrong and her uncle Tamais was killed. His head showed up on her doorstep and she was soon flown into protection. At 20 she was on her own, flown to live with an hitman in district 6, and has been there for the past three years. Laying low gave her enough time to research her background and she's brushed up on a few secrets about herself. Like the fact that she was found and that she was sold; but not much else. Its now her goal to find out the rest of her story and her parents.
