Bae Seung accepts challenges with gusto, particularly when it comes to showing his fighting ability. He rarely demonstrates the full extent of his bending unless it is as an example to his students. He knows all too well the danger of losing control of the elements he commands, and so he is very careful to hold back both emotionally and physically. History: Born into a family that had lived in the United Republic dating back to the times of the Fire Nation Colonies, Bae Seung's parents immigrated to the Fire Nation shortly before his abilities were discovered when he was five years old. Growing up as a student in the Prospective School, he was a model student when it came to his bending, although his behavior outside the classroom was a source of frustration for many of his instructors. Often getting into fights, Bae Seung got along poorly with most of his peers. By working with his masters over the years, however, he learned not to resort to violence unless absolutely necessary and gained a reputation as a star pupil. Once he graduated, Bae Seung spent some time apprenticing with a blacksmith and later worked in a robotics plant. A few years later he received an invitation to teach at the same Prospective School he had attended, which he gladly accepted. Ever since he has served as a combat instructor, specializing in swordplay and fencing.

His obsession with learning has lead to him not practicing his own bending as much as he could. History: Born to a Ship Engineer from the Earth Nation and a Healer from the Northern water tribe, he was born in a coastal city. When, at the age of five, he was found to be a Prospective, they moved to Ba Sing Se. There his father got a job working at a shipyard and his mother got a job working at a local hospital. Though he was the only ones who went to the Prospective Academy, his siblings kept up with him as a bender, his brother being a Earth, and later metal bender, and his sister being a water bender. He would return home every night and spar against them. Eventually, he grew up and decided to do something with his love of electronics. He uses his metal banding abilities to design metal parts and circuits for the devices he builds, but for the most part his job doesn't use his abilities.
