Valeria bit into her lower lip apprehensively as she struggled to make sense of what they had heard from Quentin. Someone had Jack, and if Quentin's current condition was anything to go by that someone wasn't to be trifled with. It pained her to see Franklin so worried, but the fear that they might be getting in over their heads gnawed even stronger in the back of her mind at that moment. The fact that they were some of the smartest and most capable kids in existence put aside, everything they had done up until that point had been a secret. The unshakable sense that they now were rapidly approaching a point of no return, beyond which they would be unable to get any help from their parents, was suddenly all she could think about.

The instant Franklin pulled out the newspaper clipping she recovered from her reverie, annoyance once more causing her lips to crease into a frown. She and Franklin had discussed the Young Avengers before. Previously they had just agreed to disagree about whether what they were doing was a good idea or not. Now, however, she could see Franklin intended to turn to them for help, and she realized she should have been much harsher in her criticism.

"Really, Franklin? The fanboy squad? You're talking about getting involved with a group of untrained, unsanctioned vigilantes. There's got to be somebody else we can ask for help."

Still, the more Valeria thought about it their own actions would hardly be approved of by the superhero community at large if they knew about them. Maybe it would be better if they went with someone slightly more under the radar of the bigshots. That way, if things turned sour (as she fully expected them too), they could safely pull out of the situation before they got discovered.

Sighing, she resigned herself to going along with Franklin's plan for now. She had to silently promise herself she would not get caught up in her brother's obsession with these amateur heroes, and the moment one of them slipped up and started to jeopardize their goals she would be the first one with her foot out the door.

"Fine, but I'm only going along with this because our options are limited. We'll give these guys a shot on a trial basis. I'm reserving my vote until after we decide if they make the cut, though."

Throwing her cape back somewhat indignantly, Valeria walked around to the front passenger side of the Fantasticar Jr. "Let's get going. We need to get this over with before mom and dad get back home." With that, she hopped inside and slammed the door. She crossed her arms over her chest and avoided looking Franklin in the eye for the time being, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of seeing how vexed she was by having to take part in his harebrained scheme.
Real Name: Kaldur'ahm a.k.a Jackson Hyde

Alias: Aqualad

Mentor/Sponsor: Aquaman

Age: 17

Powers:
Atlantean physiology- Kaldur'ahm's body is adapted to withstand the crushing pressures and freezing temperatures of the oceanic depths. As such, he boasts increased strength and durability far in excess of the average human being. He also sports gill slits on his neck that allow him to breathe underwater as well as webbed hands and feet that make him a superb swimmer.

Electricity generation- The eel-like tattoos running down his arms allow him to generate a powerful electric current from his palms.

Water constructs- Kaldur'ahm possesses a unique piece of Atlantean technology know as 'Water Bearers'. These twin handheld devices enable him to create and control constructs made of water, most often in the form of shields or various weapons. The Water Bearers are powered by electricity from his tattoos.

Skills: Kaldur'ahm is an expert hand-to-hand combatant, having been extensively trained by Aquaman. He also speaks fluent Atlantean in addition to English.

Brief Bio: Born in the Atlantean city of Shayeris, Kaldur'ahm was raised by his loving parents: native Atlantean Sha'lain'a and Calvin Durham, an enhanced human from the surface world. Entering mandatory military service at age 12, he later transferred to the Conservatory of Sorcery in Poseidonis to study at the age of 14. It was there that he received his tattoos and learned to manipulate water constructs under the tutelage of Queen Mera.

While returning home to visit his parents, Kaldur'ahm's life would be forever changed during an attack by the villain Black Manta. His henchmen broke into the family's home and held Kaldur's parents hostage, claiming that they knew the location of something that belonged to their boss. It wasn't until they forced Calvin to reveal that he had once worked for Manta himself and that he was not Kaldur'ahm's father that the teenager realized that in fact it was him that Manta was looking for. Sha'lain'a confessed that Black Manta was Kaldur's true father and that they had kept it secret from him for his own protection.

Luckily for all of them, Aquaman soon arrived and saved them from Manta's henchman. He decided it would be best if Kaldur was relocated to the surface world, fearing no place in Atlantis would be safe for him. He promised Sha'lain'a and Calvin that he would personally see to Kaldur's well-being and safety as well as prepare him for the day he would eventually have to face his father. While occupied with his responsibilities as a member of the Justice League, Aquaman left Kaldur'ahm in the care of Arthur Curry, the lighthouse keeper who had discovered him as a baby and his own adoptive father.

For the next two years, Kaldur'ahm was regularly visited and trained by Aquaman, who eventually agreed to make him his partner. Kaldur'ahm was a quick leaner, adapting well to life on the surface and his duties as a hero. His interactions with surface dwellers were limited due to the fact of aquatic adaptations, but over time he became like practically any other teenager. Kaldur later joined a team of fellow sidekicks apprenticed to other members of the Justice League who grew to be his closest friends and companions. Together they now make up a considerable force in their own right primed to take on a greater role alongside the League.

Notes: This version of Aqualad is slightly better acclimated to surface life and is more easy-going and less intense. Imagine his personality as more like Superboy from the series, who was speed-grown in a lab but imprinted with all the information he needed to know about the world.

Real Name: Kara Zor-El

Alias: Supergirl

Mentor/Sponsor: Superman

Age: 16

Powers: Kara possesses all the powers and abilities available to a Kryptonian in an environment exposed to yellow solar radiation as well as the inherent weakness to Kryptonite.

Super strength
Invulnerability
Super hearing
Infrared vision
X-ray vision
Heat vision
Super speed
Flight

Skills: Familiar with alien technologies from several different parts of the galaxy

Brief Bio: Kara's father was Zor-El, younger brother to Jor-El and also one of Krypton's leading scientists. Knowing that their children were growing up during the last days of Krypton's existence, her father and uncle were both consumed with the monumental task of finding a way to save their doomed planet. They differed, however, in their beliefs as to how it should be accomplished. Zor-El was in favor of a mass evacuation while Jor-El sought to actually save Krypton. All their efforts would be in vain however, as Krypton began to collapse before either of them had developed a workable solution. Zor-El was still able to evacuate his teenage daughter ahead of the cataclysm, sending her away from their home in Argo City in a rocket which would keep her in stasis until she arrived at a safe location. Jor-El was able to do the same for his infant son Kal-El.

Kara's rocket drifted through space for some time due to its navigation system being damaged during the destruction of Krypton. It had been programmed to track the signal emitted by Kal-El's rocket, however, and eventually it brought her to Earth. It made a crash landing in the middle of Metropolis, its surface covered with fragments of her homeworld that had converted into kryptonite. This drew the attention of LexCorp as well as the Justice League. An extraction team of mercenaries sent by Lex Luthor clashed with the teenage sidekicks of several Justice League members over the fate of the rocket and its contents. Luckily for Kara, the junior Justice Leaguers succeeded in destroying most of the kryptonite before it could fatally poison her and freed her from stasis. She awoke disoriented and confused, but was able to assist the team with fighting off the LexCorp mercenaries.

Kara was subsequently reunited with her cousin Kal-El who to her surprise had grown to adulthood as a result of his rocket arriving on Earth several years earlier. Leaning on each other as the last known survivors of Krypton, she became Superman's sidekick and joined forces with the team of teenage heroes that had saved her. Together they began to work in close contact with the Justice League and eventually earned a reputation as a force in their own right, resolving many threats the League was either unable to tackle or could not do so publicly.

Notes:
Tommy chuckled at how bluntly Barbara had brushed him off. "Hostility. Gotta love a girl with spirit." It was hardly the first time he had gotten such a reaction to his advances, and by now he had learned to just take it in stride. He also knew she wasn't just making idle threats. Barbara could hold her own, and if it came down to it Tommy was sure she could back up everything she had said. He made a mental note to try a smoother approach with her from now on.

Turning to take in their newest arrival, Tommy cocked an eyebrow at the very... statuesque girl. He couldn't say she was exactly his type but apparently she would be bringing a lot of muscle to the team, which they sorely needed. "Don't let Billy's nerdy handmade costumes fool you. We can hold our own with the spandex crowd. Just because we aren't an official team doesn't mean we can't put the hurt on some bad guys."

Rising from his chair, Tommy's figure seemed to fade and flicker for an instant and then he was standing there in his costume as well. Looking down at the form-fitting green and white bodysuit, he shook his head and glared at Billy. "Seriously? You couldn't make something that doesn't say 'Hey! Look at my crotch!'?" Tommy sighed, muttering under his breath. "I can't believe I'm going out in public like this."

--------------------

As Quentin closed his eyes the sounds of the city around him and the voices of Franklin and the others gradually became indistinct, first seeming to drift away before fading out all together. He felt his consciousness leave his body as his telepathic senses expanded beyond the realm of the physical. Focusing on the image of Jack he had seen, he concentrated all his thoughts on finding that face. Reaching out through the vast sea of minds all across the city, he saw through the eyes of thousands of people at once as he scanned for someone that had seen Jack.

Remaining intensely focused for several minutes, his brow furrowed in frustration as he came up with nothing. Then, suddenly, a faint image appeared before his mind's eye. It grew clearer, and soon he could make out a face. The place he was seeing was dark, but the more he focused on that face the more it became apparent that it was the same one he had seen in the photograph. It was Jack. His face finally became distinct enough to see his expression, but to Quentin's horror it was one of pain and torment. In the vision he locked eyes with Jack for a moment, and the fear and desperation he saw in the younger boy's gaze were enough to sicken him even as he felt the perverse pleasure of the mind that was inflicting it. A sense of terror and foreboding came over Quentin all at once as he sensed that twisted mind becoming aware of his presence within itself and then he saw nothing but pitch black. Feeling trapped and blind, he wanted to withdraw back to the comfort of his own consciousness, but found that he could not. The terrible mind had his own in its grasp, and it spoke to him as it held Quentin's thoughts within the abysmal void that surrounded his awareness.

"Young, precious Quentin, forget what you saw here. Never see or speak of it again... Or you're next."

With that he felt his psychic projection forcefully hurled back to his own mind. As he settled back into the confines of his own body Quentin felt the agony caused by his being expelled explode within his skull. His eyes fluttered open even as he winced in pain, and Franklin, Valeria, and Spider Man came into view once more.

"... -at happened? Did you find Jack? Where is he?" Franklin's rapidly blurted questions were only half-heard as Quentin struggled with the painful ringing the psychic backlash produced in his ears.

"Give him a minute, Franklin." Valeria approached Quentin looking concerned. "Are you all right? What did you see?"

Notes:
As the elevator ascended through the multitude of floors that made up the Baxter Building, Valeria stood on the side opposite from Quentin. An uneasy silence prevailed between the two teenagers for a few minutes. Maybe she had reacted too harshly to Quentin's attempt at reading her mind, especially given that they needed his help. It was times like these that she wished she was more like Franklin. As goofy and annoying as he sometimes was, he had a natural way with people that Valeria just couldn't seem to grasp. It was something he shared with their father, a style of leadership and personality that inspired others and complemented his natural genius.

Quentin eventually brought up the question she had hoped she wouldn't have to answer. While it wasn't a part of her plan to clue him in this early, Valeria knew she would have to build some trust it this was going to work. "We tried getting all the older heroes to help us out. They were interested at first but after a while they gave up when there were no results, so Franklin and I decided we would do this our way." She frowned remembering how all the adults they had looked up to and believed in just turned their backs and gave up on helping Jack so soon. Valeria knew then that they were on their own.

"One of our friends is still missing out there, and if the grown-ups aren't going to be any help we thought maybe someone closer to our age could do the job. That's why we reached out to you." She turned to Quentin, her blue eyes locked onto his with an imploring gaze.

"It's true we don't want our parents and their friends finding out about this, but that's only because they wouldn't understand. They think we're obsessed and we should just let this go. No one gets that we're just trying to look after our own and get our friend back. They think it's better that we just forget about him. But I won't, not so long as there are still ways to keep looking."

Just as Valeria finished, their arrival to the roof was announced with a soft ping from the elevator. They both stepped out into the cool night air and walked over to Franklin.

"Quentin, this is my brother Franklin. And this is... well, I think it goes without saying." Valeria eyed Spider-Man curiously, wondering if he was tired of Franklin's ceaseless yammering by now.

"Alright. Now that we're all here, I guess you'll need to know who it is we're trying to find." Turning to her older brother, Valeria nodded to let him know he could take over. He had been closest to Jack, after all, and could give Quentin all the information he would need to find him. "You do the honors, Franklin?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A fast moving blur blew into the shawarma restaurant, a strong gust of wind trailing in its wake. The next thing anyone knew, a young man was standing next to the table. His clothes were all askew and his wild mop of pale hair looked tossled and unkempt. He was almost a mirror reflection of Billy, although the cocky way he carried himself made it obvious they were very different.

"What's up, nerds? Sorry I'm late to your little gathering. Inter-city traffic, cute hipster chicks walking the streets of Brooklyn, you know how it is."

Taking a seat next to Riley, Tommy rolled his eyes at the way Billy and Teddy were hanging all over each other. He didn't have a problem with their sexuality, just the overtly lovey-dovey displays of affection.

"So, Billy. What's the agenda for tonight? Besides calling us to a place that smells like goat meat." Reaching across the table, he plucked a piece of roasted chicken from Billy's plate and stuffed it in his mouth before chewing it voraciously. He wiped away some tahini sauce that dribbled down his chin and winked at Barbara slyly.
Full name: Valeria Richards

Alias: Doom

Age: 14

Power: Valeria has very little in the way of what could be called superpowers. Aside from a few pieces of exotic
technology and knowledge of some spells she picked up while learning from Dr. Doom, she has the regular capabilities of an 'ordinary' teenage girl.

Skills: What stands out about Valeria is her profoundly gifted intellect. Having shown signs of genius at an extremely young age, her father has often remarked that she is even smarter than him. Her pedigree aside, Valeria's mind is her greatest tool and her deadliest weapon. Add to that her time under the tutelage of an alternate universe's Victor von Doom and there are very few challenges, mental or otherwise, that she can not surmount.

Appearance:

Costume:

Brief Bio: Growing up the second child of Reed Richards and Susan Storm exposed Valeria to many unusual things, so by the time she was old enough to start kindergarten there wasn't much that surprised her. Super villains, time travel, alternate universes, you name it. She had seen it all. In fact, she was starting to get bored with the constant perils her family seemed to face on a daily basis. So when a Future Foundation field trip gone awry left both her and her brother lost in time and space, Valeria decided to make the most of it. With Franklin as her somewhat unwilling accomplice, the two of them set out on what would become the adventure of their lives.

The years they spent away from home profoundly changed both Valeria and Franklin, but Valeria's experiences in one dimension where the Fantastic Four's adversary Dr. Doom had triumphed over his reality's version of her parents left a lasting impression on Valeria. This Doom's world had suffered greatly after losing Reed and Susan Richards, and he had come to regret his victory at the cost of losing his greatest rival and former closest friend. When he discovered Valeria, the child of his vanquished foe who bore the name of his past love, Doom saw it as an opportunity to make up for his grievous mistake.

Although Valeria was hesitant at first, she eventually accepted Doom as her teacher. Having learned a great deal from her time under his wing, the two of them devised a way to return Valeria and Franklin to their world. Once they returned, however, they discovered only a week had passed in their home reality. The now significantly older siblings eventually settled back in with their family and friends, although many of them noticed the darker turn Valeria's personality had taken. No one was more concerned by this than her father, but Valeria assured him she was still his little girl. Still, Reed Richards has been keeping a close watch on her as of late, hoping the world's next greatest evil mind is not currently living under his roof.

Full name: Thomas 'Tommy' Shepherd

Alias: Speed

Age: 16

Power: Super speed

Skills: Tommy has picked up a few things from his time in juvie that occasionally prove useful, although most of them wouldn't exactly be considered legal. From breaking and entering to hot wiring cars, he has learned all the tricks of the trade one could imagine might be in a young criminal's arsenal.

Appearance:

Costume:

Brief Bio: Tommy's childhood wasn't exactly smooth sailing for him or his parents. He always seemed to be in some kind of trouble, a tendency which only got worse as he got older. As a result, he ended up spending a good deal of time in various juvenile detention centers and "special schools". These experiences only embittered him all the more towards authority figures, and by the time he was a teenager most everyone had written him off as a lost cause.

One day at yet another school he had only recently transferred to because of problems he had at the previous one, Tommy ran afoul of a group of boys who didn't like the way he talked back to them. It was hardly the first time Tommy had gotten into a fight, but it would turn out quite differently from the many other scuffles he had been involved in during his short life. As they ganged up on him, Tommy charged the nearest one before any of them could land a blow. To his surprise, his body blew right past the other boy and to the other end of the school building in the blink of an eye. Confused but elated by the discovery of his new abilities, he made short work of the others who scarcely had a chance to register what was happening. By the time they were all taken care of, however, Tommy discovered he couldn't slow down. He became a human whirlwind, tearing through the school and endangering the lives of everyone within it.

Luckily help arrived in the form of another student with strange powers. Even stranger, however, was the fact that he looked almost exactly like Tommy. The uncanny resemblance and sense of connection shared by the two became the basis for a partnership that brought new meaning to both their lives. All they needed was a chance to show the world what they could do to make it a better place.
Once she was alone, Valeria made a detour to her room and entered her large walk-in closet. Pushing aside a row of clothes on hangers she pressed a hidden switch in the wall that caused a panel to slide down, revealing a secret compartment that contained her costume. Unlike Franklin's, hers had been a gift not from their father but from the alternate version of Doctor Doom who had been her teacher and mentor. It was much the same as the traditional unstable molecule suits of the Fantastic Four, but with one slight addition; a dark blue cape with a built-in hood. It was an homage to the man who had helped make her into the person she was now, although she had yet to reveal it to anyone besides Franklin. She could only imagine how her father would react to seeing her dressed like his nemesis, and truth be told she wasn't eager for him to find out just how much she had been changed by her time with Doom. Valeria quickly dressed herself, pushing those troubling thoughts from her mind, and headed to the elevator that adjoined the penthouse.

The short elevator ride down to the lobby was accompanied by generic muzak that seemed incongruous given the advanced technology and futuristic design that were built into the very bones of the Baxter Building. Still, Valeria supposed her parents couldn't be bothered with such minute details when they were constantly dealing with dimensional incursions and world-devouring space gods. She might take it upon herself someday to update the building's mood music to something a little more adventurous. Her uncle Johnny would probably approve, at the very least.

The elevator reached the ground floor and its doors parted to reveal a pink-haired boy slightly older than Valeria standing outside. Judging by his less than conventional attire Valeria presumed he was the former-Xavier School student they had been expecting. "You must be Quentin. Welcome to the Baxter Building, home of tomorrow's technology today and last century's elevator music."

Before she could continue introducing herself Valeria paused, her face taking on a stony expression. She could feel Quentin probing the borders of her consciousness with his telepathy, a sensation that immediately brought her guard up. Her time away from her home dimension had taught her many things, but probably one of the most valuable lessons she had learned had been how to build defenses against psychic intrusion within her own mind. She had her Uncle Victor (how it would kill her father to know she called him that) to thank for it. He had prepared her for virtually every scenario involving having to face foes with superpowers. It was something he considered fundamentally important, especially when it came to protecting the inner workings of what he referred to as "a superior mind."

"A girl has to keep her secrets, Mr. Quire." Valeria's tone while speaking the last two words bordered on scornful. More than anything she resented his attempt to barge into her thoughts without her permission. Wasn't that the golden rule of the Charles Xavier school of thought? "I don't recommend you try any telepathic shenanigans while you're here. Except the ones we need you for, of course."

Standing aside so he could enter the elevator, Valeria's expression softened slightly, an almost playful gleam in her eyes. "If you want to put that big mutant brain of yours to use, we can go upstairs and meet with my brother. We need your help finding someone."

She keyed in the number of the top floor to take the elevator to the roof, her other hand holding the doors at bay while she waited for Quentin to enter. Valeria looked at him expectantly, tapping her foot as if to urge him to hurry up.
Okay. Could I still make another character though?
I hope it's okay I made an older, non-student character. I'm thinking of making another character who is a student if that's required/allowed.
Name: Bae Seung Age: 23 Nationality: Fire Nation/Earth Kingdom School/location: Fire Nation Capital Bending types: Earth/Metal, Fire, Lava Additional skills: Skilled blacksmith/weapon maker. Has some knowledge of robotics. Job: Combat instructor at Prospective School Pets: None Possessions: Two katanas he crafted personally. Suit of body armor. Personality: Hot-tempered by nature but his impulsiveness is balanced by a rapier wit and keen intellect. Bae Seung accepts challenges with gusto, particularly when it comes to showing his fighting ability. He rarely demonstrates the full extent of his bending unless it is as an example to his students. He knows all too well the danger of losing control of the elements he commands, and so he is very careful to hold back both emotionally and physically. History: Born into a family that had lived in the United Republic dating back to the times of the Fire Nation Colonies, Bae Seung's parents immigrated to the Fire Nation shortly before his abilities were discovered when he was five years old. Growing up as a student in the Prospective School, he was a model student when it came to his bending, although his behavior outside the classroom was a source of frustration for many of his instructors. Often getting into fights, Bae Seung got along poorly with most of his peers. By working with his masters over the years, however, he learned not to resort to violence unless absolutely necessary and gained a reputation as a star pupil. Once he graduated, Bae Seung spent some time apprenticing with a blacksmith and later worked in a robotics plant. A few years later he received an invitation to teach at the same Prospective School he had attended, which he gladly accepted. Ever since he has served as a combat instructor, specializing in swordplay and fencing.
