Zanathen

A fast, yet balanced character who can use very few footsies to combo with, but has a good blend of aerial attacks and ground-based sword attacks that reach a decent distance. Zanathen must remain alert and punish his opponents for positioning themselves incorrectly, as some of his own attacks can leave him very open should the opponent block them. He can put pressure on his opponent with Red Thunder, but the starting lag that occurs for it also forces him to remain cautious when playing defensively. He can grab like any character and has the ability to double jump and dash in the air.

Special Commands

Red Thunder (236 > LP, MP, HP): Zanathen strikes forward with his blade, sending out a projectile of red thunder in front of him. The projectile’s speed can be controlled based on the button pressed to initiate the attack, but in return, the starting lag increases based on the strength of the projectile. Zanathen can cancel Red Thunder if he hits any of his kick buttons right before he sends out a projectile. Alternatively, if he hits any of his punch buttons, he will propel towards a certain direction based on what punch button has been pressed. LP sends him forward on the ground and downward-diagonally in the air, MP sends him diagonally-upward on the ground and horizontally in the air, and HP sends him straight up on the ground and straight down in the air. Red Thunder has little to no ending lag, and the HP version of the projectile can absorb up to two of the opponent’s projectiles.

Inhibitor Void (214 > LK, MK, HK): Zanathen creates a half-sphere of red thunder and sand, catching the next projectile. Upon succession, he will alter the projectile before tossing it back with halved, normal, or doubled speed based on the kick button he used. LK lets Zanathen initiate Inhibitor Void within four frames, MK lets Zanathen initiate the attack within ten frames, and HK initiates the attack within sixteen frames. The attack in general has low starting delay but has a glaring end lag to it, making it a less-than-ideal choice against fast-paced fighters who can see through the counter attack. Zanathen can also use Inhibitor Void to simply hit the target at a close-range, and upon hitting the target, allows him to immediately follow up the attack with either Sky Tide or HP/HK. Inhibitor Void does not catch unblockable projectiles, Overdrives, and upgraded versions of regular projectiles.

Sky Tide (623 > LP, MP, HP): Zanathen swings his blade upward as he leaps into the air. The height he reaches scales based off of the punch button used to initiate the attack. The blade automatically nullifies destroyable projectiles as it is carried into the air. Upon succession of hitting the opponent, Zanathen will be able to connect Sky Tide with either Cloud Weaver, Stargazer, or Asteroid Finish. The first four frames of Sky Tide leaves Zanathen in an invincible state. Sky Tide can be connected into very easily from LP, LK, MP, MK, and Sky Tide.

Cloud Weaver (214 > LK) (AFTER Sky Tide): Zanathen spins vertically, slashing forward with the blade. Upon hit, the opponent will be propelled away from Zanathen across the battleground. If Zanathen somehow misses the target, he may input Cloud Weaver again to leap forward before spinning continuously until he lands on the ground.

Stargazer (236 > MK) (AFTER Sky Tide): Zanathen swings his blade upward while slightly sending himself upward, sending the opponent up in the air. This move is generally useful against ground fighters, and is usually not used against opponents who could recover quickly in the air. Stargazer can be used twice in the air before Zanathen lands.

Asteroid Finish (22 > HK or HK>HK) (AFTER Sky Tide): Zanathen leaps forward in the air before spiking his blade downward, propelling the opponent to the ground and rendering them unable to recover instantly. Asteroid Finish is useful against air fighters, as it gives him more time to approach the opponent once he lands.

Null Thrash (64123 > HP, HK): Zanathen twirls his sword as he uses the momentum of the spin to freeze his opponent with the handle of his sword. Null Thrash can stop invincible targets for a brief second as long as Zanathen simply catches them with the handle of the sword. Its versatility comes with the price of having both start lag and end lag during the entire attack, making it mostly reliable if Zanathen can predict an incoming attack correctly or not. This attack cannot knock out opponents no matter what, and can be connected to LP/LK.

Atlas Splitter (23621 > LK/MK/HK): Zanathen spins around furiously with his blade in hand as he moves in a certain direction based on the kick button used to initiate the attack. LK sends Zanathen horizontally on the ground and diagonally-upward in the air, MK sends Zanathen diagonally-upward on the ground and diagonally-downward in the air, and HK causes Zanathen to remain still in one position on the ground and sends upward in the air. LK lasts for one second, MK lasts for two seconds, and HK lasts for two and a half seconds. LK has the least amount of end lag to the attack, while the other two versions have increasingly noticeable end lag to them. All versions have up to three frames of invincibility on start-up of the attack. Atlas Splitter can be interrupted as long as an attack hits Zanathen himself rather than his sword.

Star Road (50% Gauge) (6321 > LP > MK > HP > LK): Zanathen lifts and keeps his sword raised for one whole second before bringing it down on the ground, causing eruptions of unblockable red thunder to fill a large distance around him for three seconds. Star Road has a massive amount of start-up lag, as the entire process of initiating the attack takes about two seconds, and it also suffers from rendering Zanathen unable to move for two seconds after the attack ends. Star Road is an extremely good counter to Overdrives that require charging or far distance from him, as it punishes those who are too close to him to avoid the attack. Star Road can also be immediately used after Zanathen throws out a Red Thunder, allowing him to put more pressure on his opponent.

Mind-Nullify (100% Gauge) (632 4123 > HP + HK): Zanathen prepares his sword by his chest before stabbing forward. Mind-Nullify’s entire attack takes up two frames, making it an extremely efficient damage-dealing attack that punishes fighters who stay too far away from Zanathen. He is not invincible, however, and can be hit out of the attack, meaning that he will need to be wary of when to strike without getting interrupted. Mind-Nullify can be used in the air as well, though the end lag will be greater when the attack ends.

Nova (100% Gauge) (Opponent or himself has 50% Health) (236 > LP > LK > MP+MK+HP+HK): Zanathen slashes four times before spinning rapidly, ending the attack with an explosion of red thunder than propels the opponent away from him. Extremely punishable when unsuccessfully used, but can be combo’d into quite easily from LP, MK, and Inhibitor Void. The damage Nova deals is slightly dampened when Zanathen uses it to finish a combo.

During times of extreme emotional or physical distress, Kabuto gains access to a seemingly inexhaustible supply of enhanced physical ability. In this state he does not tire, he gets much faster and stronger, and he develops a dangerous level of pain tolerance. He is also immune to mental influence; illusions created in the mind of the target will not affect him, nor will any attempt at mental domination or communication, malevolent or otherwise.

Weakness
Kabuto's body is completely normal for a human - it has no special endurance. As such, he can break his own bones and tear muscles while he's using Limit Breaker. This means that roughly four ninths of his skin is scar tissue - a physical testament to his life. Also, whilst using Limit Breaker, Kabuto cannot be reasoned with - he exists only for the fulfillment of the thought that drives him to enter that form. It may be the destruction of an object, the defense of a person, or something else entirely.

Among the injuries he has sustained, he has sustained one extreme injury to his left arm that hasn't healed correctly - a warping in the bone in his forearm, near his elbow. This injury means that his left hand cannot take much strain without intense pain, and will reach its breaking point sooner than anywhere else on his body.

Skills
Kabuto is a decent athlete and sportsman due to him keeping himself in peak physical condition (disregarding his injuries), and also has a talent for origami and dealing with animals.

He can also play the Shakuhachi - a form of flute created from bamboo in Japan and China, and his music goes through periods of being very heartening to being extremely melancholy, and prone to inspire great feelings of sadness and depression in listeners.

Hobbies
Kabuto's hobbies include entering a state of meditative focus for doing origami, and walking with his friends.

Personality
Kabuto strives to improve the lives of his friends and to turn his enemies from the paths they follow. He has no regard for himself, and has frequently sacrificed his time and body for their benefit. He will never kill and he will never hurt an innocent. He cherishes life and people especially, and that's all there is to him. He is a shield, a balm and a shoulder for everyone who needs or wants one, and he is happy with that.

Of course, all that changes once he enters his Limit Breaker form...then, his existence is described by a single aim, and nothing else. He is not Kabuto - he is nothing but a vessel for that aim.

However, he isn't always a great bundle of happiness and purity. When he's alone, or when he thinks he's alone, Kabuto is prone to mental breakdowns. These episodes can have a variety of effects; sometimes they trigger his Limit Breaker, with some random idea being its aim; sometimes they cause him to sink into great bouts of depression, and attempt to take his own life; sometimes they make him fabricate detailed paper airplanes and then devour them. Very few people know about these, but they can be dangerous to him and to those around him, meaning that he has many self worth issues, and so has to take prescription anti-depressants to stave off any urges to do himself harm.


Kabuto is the latest in his family line to bear a curse set upon them centuries ago by a witch; the curse forces its host to enter a state of berserker focus upon reaching their limits, a state in which they can do themselves and others great harm. Because of this curse, Kabuto's family have dedicated themselves to the people of the world for generations.

They are the ultimate humanitarians; they construct homeless shelters, food banks, hospitals, veterinary centers and orphanages that are run by the best of people, all supported by the giant business empire, composed entirely of businesses that have willingly pledged themselves to the aim of the group as a whole - the improvement of every life on Earth. They can afford to sell high quality goods for low prices because the suppliers are part of the group, and the laborers who make the goods are as well. All are taken care of, and in turn all take care of everyone else.

Kabuto is the eldest son of the current family patriarch, and he is a true example of his family. Completely selfless, utterly good, incorrigibly helpful, he is everything his father could want...and he is the first of the family to perfect the use of the curse. His spirit is so pure, he can control the berserker; as he falls into the depths of the curse, the final thought he holds onto becomes the curse's driving force, allowing him to use the power of the curse for good causes.

Indeed, he has used it many times; in the defense and the saving of others, mostly. He has lifted fallen trees and ripped apart vehicles, he has run through blazing buildings and disabled criminals; he has saved people from being run over, and he once caught someone falling from a building, though it's thought that it must have been a miracle that saved both their lives - the two fell more than five stories onto concrete, with Kabuto acting as a cushion. He carries every scar on his body with pride - each one is a reminder of a life touched and bettered, and despite the pain they bring, he welcomes their company.

He has come to Orean Cause because his parents believe that he should be in a place where he can't cause a lot of trouble if the curse gets out of hand, since the students there can more than take care of themselves, and they have long wished to lend a healing hand to the many wounds carried in the school, by both student and teacher alike. So they have sent Kabuto, the best of them, to be their prophet - their great healer.

He may not have a depressing past (another person Deathedge will love to hang out with if he throws aside his reputation), but holy shit, I've seen that very power (Limit Breaker) so many times in this site, I'm not even going to give feedback for it. It's the most shonen-as-f-ck thing to ever exist, I'll be honest. Also, there's one part in his Background that I really can't enjoy for some odd reason, and that's the part where it explains his feats outside of Orean Cause.

I'm getting a feeling that you tried to be different in terms of Orean Causes's character roster, but if you look at Kabuto as a character himself, it feels worn out. Though the Weaknesses manages to make the power feel somewhat more original, that same weakness has also been used alongside the Limit Breaker archetype power. My feedback on the power is more opinion-based because in terms of balance, it's balanced, but in terms of originality and freshness... yeah. And I also have horrible memories of people using those kinds of powers in a really weird way, no matter how balanced they try to keep it. Maybe I'm the only one who sees it like this.
