Starting topic: Diancie.

Rock/Fairy type and with the ability Clear Body, both of which are shared by Carbink, which it is related to, probably in a Manaphy/Phione-like connection (my shitty Carbink OC is soon to be one of thousands).

Signature move is probably Diamond Storm, a physical Rock-type move (as if we don't have enough already). Stats are said to be 60/75/175/75/175/50 for a total of 610, i.e. statistically better version of Carbink and Registeel. Possibly related to the giant Anistar sundial and/or Kalos Champion Diantha.

Go.

We already have 'Ghosts' and 'Dragons', so it does fit in. I think the name is really the only thing a lot of people have against it, but I'm not fond of that argument, as Pokemon type names are rarely restricted to what the word is usually used to describe. A lichen is a 'bug' but a scorpion is not, a slimeball is a 'dragon' but Charizard is not, a jellyfish is a ghost but the god of nightmares is not, a bronze bell is 'steel'-typed but a turtle with giant steel cannons is not. They're elements that different species are attuned to, not biological families that species fall into.

Despite this pokemon falling under the probably a possessive object category of pokemon it's not a ghost.

Your argument is based around things that appear in first generation compared to the newest. A turtle with giant steel cannons is not steel type because it is based around water attacks. Charizard is not a dragon type because it is based around fire attacks. Also, they're starters. They can't be anything more than the main three elements. I call it bullshit because it is strong against Dragon type, but anything that isn't extremely wimpy can kick it's pink sparkly ass back to the pixie it plopped out of.

I smell whiny type fandumb from your post.

Fanboy for dragon types: OH NOES THEY ADDED A NEW TYPE THAT STANDS AS A THREAT TO THE OP DRAGON TYPE, LET ME WHINE!

Fairy is there to balance the OP of dragon a bit.

I don't actually care about dragon. It just confuses me that there is a type out there that can beat dragon and yet everything else screws it over. So much potential, lost.

The only real other type that stands above for OP is steel which was good for 11/18 , what has a weakness of being offensively good for uncommon types. Such as fairy, steel and dragon.

Togekiss says hi. So does Mawile. And Azumarill. Clefable too.

'Everything else screws it over'? Examples? The only major problem that Fairy has is low effectiveness against Steel, which was nerfed this generation.

Dragon Types were OP way too long, I'm happy with Fairy type being added to create another RPS triangle. Pokemon runs on Triangles, whether it's "Defense, Support, Offense" or "Grass, Water, Fire" You need that base 3 system for Pokemon to click competively.

Also, it's the only Video game series I know, where the games are older then it's demographic.

Fairies are cool.

As an Offensive type, they're rubbish, unless they have some coverage move to kill the endless defensive steel-types in the game, or they have a decent secondary STAB. Those that do, generally lack in either speed or offense, and end up using bulk, set-up moves, or priority to get past those limitations. So, in general, they're mostly walls, support, or bulky sweepers.

Defensively however, they are absolutely fantastic. Between the Fighting and Dark resists, there is very little the once nigh-OP Machamp can do against them. Conkeldurr is now less of a problem. Lesser fighting-types are even less of a threat. The Dragon immunity even means that beasts that once ran rampant across the metagame, now have actual counters. Togekiss, for one, is immune to both of Garchomps STABs, has enough bulk to eat the occasional fire fang, and can force it out with STAB moonblast. This is the first time anyones ever been able to say "Garchomp has a true counter".

So yeah, they're pretty alright.

I always assumed a negative response to the fairy type would be because of all the fairy type designs, not just the name or weird strategy issue.
