This sounds interesting... although I would like to understand how the remaining insouled humans make technology and such. Perhaps there are ruins and such of the old world or perhaps underground cities?
Viola! A back-story of sorts, (needed aproval of @BeanieBaggie)
I am agreeing with Aqutanama about there being ruined/burried cities.
First it had rained, there was nothing odd about that, even though it rained for almost a week in some places, it was nothing new.
Although it did rain enough for some poor bugger to wish for it to stop. He probably felt vile, considering what came after, but really? It wasn’t his fault.
But whatever; it stopped raining eventually, and there came a week of perfect weather; the sun was shining, but not too brightly, there was little cloud cover, it was warm, but not too warm, a gentle summer breeze. The whole world experienced these perfect days, but they ended, and far too soon.
Pessimistic, superstitious people said it was the calm before the storm, far too good to be true, but no one paid them heed, that was how they always talked, why pay attention now? Even though, later, they would be proved right.
It started off with just a few minor natural disasters, probably not minor for those that experienced them, but minor in the grand scheme of things.
However things escalated, and rather quickly too.
Soon enough there were hurricanes and twisters, joining the earthquakes and tsunamis, volcano eruptions, wild fires, and avalanches.
They stormed the world, buffeting it, and scaring whatever they could. Somewhere in all that mess, many power stations the world over, were taken out, plunging the world into even more chaos.
The emergency services were overrun trying to help, and more often than not there was nothing they could do, even if they could make it to where they were needed. Finally the storms blew out, leaving a tattered world, and one more, not even whole, perfect day.
The ‘eye of the storm’.
Before that day was out it had started; the ‘real’ storm, the main act of the apocalypse.
With heat that hit you like a brick wall, rushing up and swallowing everything.
Following the heat, or maybe pushing it along, came the winds, lashing out at everything they touched, which really, was everything.
And, possibly, the worst of all came the sand, so much sand, carried on the wind; it sliced any-and-every thing, leaving nothing untouched.
No one really knows how long the storm lasted, only that when it finally petered out, the world was left a barren wasteland, a bare ruin of the old world, and, for the most part, inhospitable.
There was however a ray of hope; in the midst of these storms, someone of something had created cities walled and gated, Oasis’ to be exact. Places where everything one could ever want was preserved from the old world, a ‘perfect’ place to live.
It rained, then there was a week of perfect weather, Almost 'too good to be true'. After that the world was racked by natural disasters of many sorts, then came a not quite full day of that perfect weather, followed by a massive sandstorm thingy, which, when it finally dissolved, revealed a barren wasteland, some ruined cities from before, and the Oasis'.
I liked that but needs to be split up more. That solid wall of text hurt my head. LOL. Of course I complain. Again like you said though needs to be approved, yeah?@SilverWolfAngel
lol Could try for three to five lines per paragraph if you like. I know paragraphs on this site look shortened but yeah. Looks better than before.@SilverWolfAngel
oh hell yes. That backstory sounds f*uckin amazing!
As for their tech? They scavenge what they can from ruins (if they can even find any), and some of the more reckless survivors steal what they can from the oases- though, most of the time, they never come back. Stealing tech from an oasis directly is considered a suicide mission, but I imagine it's payed off extremely well in the few times its' succeeded. Mostly, I think they'd steal from oasis patrols. I mean, one or two big jeep-like vehicles, with two to four husks? Probably not too hard, if the survivors plans are good.
I would like to play a survivor. Perhaps someone around the age of 30 or so. Skills would probably be "survival" "CQC" "Demolitions Expert" and maybe "Sharpshooting" or "Bow/crossbow"
ok. I'm tempted to make an OOC so people can start posting characters? oh god its been atleast 3 years since I was in a group rp hhhhhhgk Yeah. I'll do it. I'll post a link back here when I'm done
also, er, I'll put it in casual? cause idk where everyone stands and I dont wanna scare people off.
Yay! :) Okay; suddenly curious, how long has it been since the world got desertified? I kinda need to know so I can work out a bio. Also if you're letting us be Husks, can they start with a soul, or do they have to be Uhhhhh………… what's that word?? ……… weellll…… caught and infused?
Oh and, because I was talking to someone and they wanted to know where all the water went, (from the rain in back-story thingie,) It went to the Oasis' as the start of their water supply. Probably. Or it just randomly evaporated for no good reason at all, just so it could have rained and then turned the world into a barren wasteland.
Well, the only thing that makes husks husks is that they're soulless; an empty living shell of a person. I don't count artificial souls in the mix, but even if I did, the Oases do not use souls of any kind in the husks.
Er, in case I'm not wording things well, husks can only have souls if they're infused with one outside of an oasis.
I think I get what you are saying, But I guess I also didn't really make myself clear; What I really wanted to know was whether, if my character was a Husk, would s/he have to start as soulless and get caught, or can s/he have already been caught, and is now living as a survivor. Better phrasing?
Just cause you said;
The more technologically inclined among the survivors developed a system for making, and introducing, man-made souls into husks instead of killing them, albeit untested due to a lack of husks nearby.
That's where we start. A group of survivors, each with their own reasons, create several experimental souls, and go out to hijack some husks. They then, upon successful hijacking of husks, infuse the husks with the souls. The new souls work in the husks, and though some have strange faults and are unstable, they have a soul (or two) each.
Which makes me think that there are no previous infused Husks, meaning that s/he'd have to be caught and infused first.
Yeah, I would assume they would at least have to be captured to start. I mean, we can begin with an instance where a few husks are captured, too.
Although, depending on the character, a Husk without a soul could comply with the survivors for their own reasons (get themselves out of there, recon, gain trust to lead them all into an oasis, etc).
yeah! that's A-OK with me. I'm intending on making a husk character (considering I know where I'm aiming the story to go, it wouldn't be fair for me to play a survivor right off the bat, would it?) too, wanna have them on patrol together?
I don't think they'd have any young'uns under, about, 17-18 on patrol, unless it was a captured survivor. Then they'd go on a lot of patrols, as a lure and/or fear tactic, no matter the age (granted that they pick up the skills they need to go on patrol beforehand).
