The world of Llia is largely peaceful and prosperous at the minute, with only one note worthy conflict between two nations. But for all the peace, there is one factor that instills fear in the hearts of all. Monsters of all shapes and sizes have been pouring into the world through an unknown portal.

As a result, the people of Llia have responded, and now people known as Hunters float through the world. These people of amazing skill and abilities worship the god and goddess of the hunt, Tuman and Freia. By worshiping these deities and claiming monster kills in their name and sacrificing the choice part of the beast, they have been gifted special abilities.

But even among the many legendary names, there is one who stands above all others. Ethan Thorn. Ethan the un-killable. Ethan the Decimator. Legends say that he is capable of taking on any monster with no weapons or skills and win.

He is a legend no more.

On a stormy night our story begins with a hooded man slamming a knife into the wall of a tavern, attaching a piece of paper flapping in the heat from the fire-place. On it is a few simple lines:

You read this and think to yourself that it is at least worth a look at. Wondering what other hunters will be there, what powers they possess, and what this missions entail, are all thought that fill your head as you drift off to sleep in your cozy rented room.

Looking for no more than four other players to hunt down some of the biggest and baddest beasties I can imagine. All hunters have a special ability. All hunters have cool OP oversized weaponry. And all of them will heed the call of the Rise of the Hunters. But while they have a common goal, they have to work together. And with Hunters with an ego the size of a gigantasaur, some interesting situations shall ensue.

Is the story set in a fantasy setting? Or is it modern?

It is a high-fantasy setting.

Regarding the weaponry, think Final Fantasy esque. Want a giant broadsword that can cleave a tree in one swing, go for it. A bow that shoots tracking arrows, sure why not. Technology wise, we are looking at things like single shot flintlock pistols and single shot bayonetted rifles bwing the pinnacle. SO nothing too swish bang.

Regarding the abilities, it is exactly that. By worshipping one of the two gods (Tuman for the warrior like people and Freia for the more asassiny sort) you get an ability to help you slay these abominable monsters. It can be something that enhances your abilities, something like shoot a fireball, something like ally support, etc. No insta-kill abilities. We want to have fun hunting them down, not just blowing them sky high. Be creative, but be sensible.

So can we get a few examples of these monsters, like sizes and intelligence, mostly stuff hunters and commonfolk would know about

There will be a total of ten targets, ranging from a pack of wolf like creatures called Chupacabra, which operate much like a pack of wolves, through to a giant colossus of a creature called a golem, which has base intellect and instinct. There will be a couple of quite intelligent creatures, but most of them will be around average animal/creature intelligence. Think things like monster hunter and the FF series.

The introductory post will list the ten creatures and have a base explanation of them. Through RNG, I will me PMing individuals with extra information, which is up to them to share or not.

So each person/hero would be bringing a different set of information to the table? That sounds cool.

Yup. Depending on your specialities and your character, I will be allocating numbers and throwing them through a random number generator to see who gets what info.

And you don't HAVE to share info. There may be some benefits if you choose to be out for yourself.

In that case I'm thinking a trapper/tracker type, a bit fragile but focusing on bows and poisons.

Sorry for the delay. Moving houses and it has been very difficult physically and emotionally.

Think I got an idea for my ability. I'm thinking of like having a scan and observation kind of idea. My character has to get a small amount of his own fresh blood into the subject, usually by coating his weapon with a bit. Once inside he can get information on the subject. He can gain more information the closer he is. I figure it has an effective range of 5 miles, although he'd only be aware of its direction and if it's still moving towards the last mile. Within 2 miles he could be aware of what they are attempting to do in general terms, such as sleeping or hunting or so on. When in battle range he could be aware of what the subject is focusing on, as well as its health and stamina. It also makes it easier for him react to its actions, so long as he has a clear line of sight his accuracy is increased. Last 24 hours

That sounds kind of painful, having to use your own blood like that. Interesting idea though, sort of reminds me of something from Naruto.

I was figuring only a few drops, pricking a finger or something. But I figured there needed to be something to connect him to the target

Hahaha, I kind of figured but every time I tried to imagine it, there was tons more blood involved. XD I'm a bit of wimp IRL too, sooooo....
