So, I was thinking of moral choices in RPs. It's a little hard, but usually it's "kill or be killed" choices that are obvious, with the occasional chatty character that tries their best to talk their way out of situations (bless 'em). I'm not saying those are the only ones, but I've seen few that are outside of that. I'm guessing it usually have to do with the player characters being the saviours, survivors, or super-dickhead-evil, or whatnot.

I don't really have a plot, but I want to either create a plot, or purely insert my idea into a plot: the moral grey area. That place where you have to choose the lesser of two equally bad evils and live with those choices. You're forced to stay in town where a person you killed in an argument that you stepped into to deliberate has family there that has word that you killed their family member. In said RP, you character can't be Mr. stone-cold-heart and just blow it off. Each person needs to have a moral breaking point. Either a number or magnitude of how much guilt they can take before they snap, and go crazy. Suicide, homicide, or just sitting in the corner crying 23/7, taking an hour to eat and sleep. Just gone cray-cray. Eventually, those who have not snapped will have the mission of bringing those who have back to sanity (those who have snapped can still RP as their crazy-ass self, just doing whatever). Obviously the suicidal ones are more of an immediate issue to confront.

I just really want to do something this calibre of moral greyness. Where every hard choice you make will eventually attempt to haunt you in some way. Each character could have one type of moral haunting they're immune to and one that's super effective. The GM (whether it's myself or not) could have a way to numerate a scale of sanity and how badly a choice will effect said sanity when it tries to haunt them. Again, I got no plot, no setting, no iconic NPC to make some broad intro. Just an idea of a moral system and things characters would include. If anyone makes something for this, please leave a link. If you would like to collaborate with me and make something, PM me and we can throw ideas around.

Thanks in advance!

Well, I think the hardest part of trying to pull something off like this is that it needs a really active gm of sorts and more and more story choices as the rp progresses. Active users would also be needed to move the story along. Do you have any ideas on some sort of setting and background yet?

No, but I'm currently in a PM with another user trying to get that going. The setting is obviously going to be in an area conflicted. Most likely a social divide (i.e. civil war, rival and powerful families) And the PCs will be neutral, 3rd parties (i.e. travellers).

I see. How will the system of morality work? Will each choice have a sort of "stress" or "anxiety" level? I was thinking you may want to give all choices a numerical value, and have a point system to determine a character's sanity? For example, perfect sanity could be (0-5), insanity would be 20+.

Or will players decide if they snap or not? The system I described above is a bit complex...

That might be a good idea for behind-the-scenes. I want the player to choose what they think is best. The sanity would come into play as a "haunting", like the example of the family losing a member.

It could still work that way. Higher the score, more hauntings. Depending on your choice, sanity could go up or down.

Yeah, relieving insanity build up would be the hardest part to figure out. I guess finding a way to remove yourself from whatever it is that's haunting would be an alright way to figure it out...?

It could work like this.

lets assume we had a scale of 100.

Depending on the choice, it could add 5+, 10+ maybe even 50+ depending how pivotal the choices are.

I guess there could also be a scale for good things (removing yourself from stressor, having fun, doing good things) which could subtract from the score.

But a system like that would get pretty complex, as you would also have to take into account things like refusing to seek help, pretending like it didn't happen... not sure you'd want to keep track of that. It would be a lot of work.

Yeah, and that would make it a little vague. Plus, there's the possibility of one player (unlikely, because most people on here would play out a character well, but it's plausible) that decides to always do things to have fun or removing the PC from a stressor, whether or not it makes sense to.

True. There also may have been arguments about the scoring. Still leaves the issue of people just shrugging off traumatic events as if it was a normal, everyday thing.

I think the scoring is kinda a background thing, but it would still not be super easy. As for shrugging off, that's why there's the immunity and super-effective sections. If that keeps happening, I test it later using the super-effective method. If (s)he shrugs it off, then I PM the player. If it doesn't stop (3 full warnings via PM, and probably at least one in the OOC publicly), that character gets killed off by some creative insanity suicide/homicide from someone else.

That's fine. I think it'll be up relatively soon. Or at least have a more solid idea of where plot and background are.

Error What Happens When Mahz Screws Up Coding

Dont do it in free, free is a harbour of mary and gary sues. A place where we are all evil or saviors, do it in casual where it will have many more players that will appreciate it. There are 3 type of users here, leaders, Freinds and trolls. Do this in casual or be specific. This is not a free rp situation and if you want it to be free I give you the best wishes and will join you.

@Error that made no sense whatsoever. You warned the GM against making it a free RP and then said you would love to join if it did wind up being a free RP? It's almost contradictory.
Also. I saw another thread about this, I think. I seem to recall posting in one, anwyay. O.o I dun remember!!!

@RomanAria like I said: I'm not saying "it's never been done". I just haven't seen any myself, after being active here for about a month and a half. @Error, I also posted this in general, because I realized free might not be the best for it. I'm pretty sure I'll be posting the OOC in casual.
